I have been to many dentists in my 83 years and can say with absolute certainty that Dr Peter Mazzella is the best dentist I've ever had. Not only is he gentle, kind, and honest, he is also a very effective dentist. Instead of trying to sell you on unnecessary procedures, he fixes what is broken at the least cost and agony to his patients. Seeing him is a pleasure, which is not easy to say about other dentists. He drilled... and he DRILLED I saw Dr. Mazzella mostly for dental cleaning for several years. Two years ago Mazzella said I needed filling on a tooth. He kept drilling in that area for 2 separate visits. and several months later, one adjacent tooth next to the filling tooth suddenly cracked. As a result of the fractured tooth, I was told by an independent dentist office I needed a crown! The dental filling work was done poorly at a minimum. I put complete trust in this dentist, and end up paying huge fees for something entirely unnecessary. Needless to say, I am hugely unhappy about the situation. Beware! read more

The amalgams that Dr Mazzella placed in my teeth when I was 10 have lasted more than 30 years and continue to remain serviceable. I always begrudged him slightly for pushing so hard when he would pack a filling. I now understand he was ensuring the material was properly condensed which no doubt contributed to their longevity. He was the dentist for my whole family and no one ever had any problems whatsoever. He did a great set of veneers for my brother too. I was a surly little kid who hated going to the dentist - he was always very kind and funny. While I didn't fully appreciate his work back then , I REALLY appreciate it now. After avoiding seeing any dentist for 15 years because I moved away , I've started going back for regular care. Dr. Mazzella's conservative restorations have left my new dentist plenty of tooth structure to work saving me from ever needing a crown or root canal (fingers crossed!!). I don't know if he reads his reviews but thank you Dr Mazzella !!. If anyone sees him tell him thanks for being one of the good ones! read more

I was new to the area and looking for a new dentist. I called Dr. Mazzella's office to book a new patient appointment for a cleaning, exam and x-rays. I was told to bring my insurance information. The day of my appointment, I arrived before my appointment at 8:45 to fill out the paperwork. Over an hour and twenty minutes later, I was still sitting in the chair waiting for them to process my x-rays (the office doesn't have digital x-rays -- this is technology from like 1982). Their ancient x-ray machine kept malfunctioning so it was taking forever for them to process. Also, she took way more x-rays than necessary -- like 13-15. Right after the appointment I had a massive headache from all the radiation exposure. Nearly an hour and half after arriving at the office, I was still sitting in the chair and hadn't had my exam or my cleaning yet. While I was waiting, the receptionist came in and said that they had a "cancellation" for an appointment at 11 am. She said they could "squeeze" me in for the cleaning. I told her that I had booked a cleaning and that my appointment was at 8:45. She said I need to book two separate appointments for a cleaning and another for the "exam" and to take x-rays. What?? This was NOT explained to me when I called in to book my new patient appointment, nor does it make any sense. Who has time to go to the dentist TWICE just to get a routine cleaning? Traditionally, a cleaning and dental exam is held on the same day. The patient gets a cleaning done and then a dentist will examine the mouth and diagnose if any future work is to be done on a separate appointment. However, Mazzella's office makes you come in for two separate appointments, one for the cleaning and another for a separate "exam". And they don't tell you this at the outset. So beware if you are a new patient. You'll need two appointments just to get your teeth cleaned. All so Mazzella can bill your insurance for two separate visits and make more money. When I complained about this, Dr. Mazzella and his surly staff got huffy with me. When I requested that they give me the x-rays they had just taken, they refused to give me copies of my x-ray films or my paperwork that I had filled out, which had such personal information as my SSN and my husband's SSN. Not only is failing to provide me with my medical/dental records upon request a violation of HIPAA, they were very unprofessional about handling the situation. The office manager completely unapologetic about their failure to advise a new patient of their "rules". I would never recommend this dentist. He doesn't communicate properly with his patients, nor do his billing practices seem ethical to me. It's absurd to require two separate appointments to get a routine teeth cleaning, nor should routine teeth x-rays take nearly an hour and a half. read more

We love Dr. M and his staff! Dr. Mazzella has been our dentist for over 25 years and we don't even live close to his office - but we wouldn't go anywhere else. The office staff has always been very kind, courteous and accommodating. It is sometimes hard to get in for a cleaning - yes, but this is because the hygienists are so wonderful and have so many patients who adore them! Dr. Mazzella has been my dentist long before I had children, and now my kids (17 & 18) have been seeing him since they were infants. Dr. Mazzella is the KING of shots! For those of you who say "no, no, no, no shots for me" - if you ever need one, Dr. Mazzella is the best at "hiding" the shot and administering it pain-free..seriously, the BEST! Crystal, Dr. Mazzella's assistant, has been with him since I became a patient. She is very kind and knows her job. The officer manager, as well, has been with Dr. Mazzella for a very long time. They are a great team and have a super friendly and SMART staff. This dental office is not your "usual roll 'um in and roll 'um out" dental office. They help every patient individually and work with them on many levels to make them comfortable and understand what treatment they are receiving and what the fees will entail. The office manager is very knowledgeable about insurance and billing and how dental procedures work. At a time when I did not have dental insurance she was very helpful in making sure I understood what I would be paying and then also helped me get established with a new insurance company that would be most beneficial to me. She and Dr. Mazzella helped find and refer my kids to an orthodontist close to me and then also helped in coordinating an oral surgeon for my oldest child to get his wisdom teeth pulled. This office is more than patient with their patients, myself in particular, when collecting fees, especially when I was not working. I would say Dr. Mazzella's office and staff are much more Norman Rockwell than your usual 'HMO you have 8 cavities' dentist...they are a good group of people who care about their patients and are more than willing to help - even in emergencies. I don't do much YELPing, but since this crazy MAZZY's review popped up, I felt obligated to reply and put in my two cents. I was there and very bothered by HER behavior in this office and how she was treating the staff! She has nerve to badmouth a staff she knows minimal about. The fact that she was not even an established patient and had so many "demands" just proves how ridiculous she was. Dr Mazzella and all the staff and hygienists are outstanding. My husband and & I and our now adult children have been going there for years. Everyone at this office is very professional and timely. I took for granted the excellent service my family & I received over the years until my kids left the state and had to see other dentists while away at college. Other dentists tried to overcharge and/or overdiagnose issues. I especially appreciate now that Dr Mazzella has always been reasonable and clear.
