I know where my teeth stand everything I see her. 4 months ago, I started the Invisalign procedure. Going great, teeth are getting straighter and the follow-up has been great. Dr. Chang is our go-to dentist!! I had a tooth-accident during the holiday season and I found Dr. Chang's clinic was the only one opened so I went. She kindly took me as emergency customer and gave me a temporary tooth so I could still have a happy holiday! Most of all, she did not ask me a bloody high emergency charge for it- this "emergency" cost me as a tooth-cleaning. I believe Dr. Chang is meant to be our family dentist since. Her very straightforward, kindhearted personality and highly knowledgeable technique has won over me, my family, and my friends. She will tell us what our dental issues are right there (no sugar coating, haha...) and how to avoid certain things to keep good teeth (i.e. due to my 60+ age, I should not bite on hard fruits or food, instead, I need to cut them in small pieces, I need to floss often and not floss too hard, etc...). I love to share good news and things with my friends so they can get benefit too, by the same token, I feel obligated to let people know the good deeds a person has made so s/he will be recognized as deserved. I was referred to Dr. Chang by a family friend after seeing two previous dentists who failed to provide the quality of care I received here. Dr. Chang is meticulous and knowledgeable. I've never felt the ease of anxiety that she was able to provide while simultaneously being in a DENTIST office. She could tell I was nervous, as I have some involved dental issues, but I feel well cared for at this office. Dr. Chang informed me of her plan and followed through with excellence. LONG REVIEW AHEAD.. I know it's a late review because I was busy, but now I have more time to give Susan a review *sarcastic smile* I still remember my experience with her and I actually cried after I left the building. And if only I can give negative star, I will gladly do! I went here the first week of March 2020, can't say anything about their "assistant" or those people who work at the front, their nice. But this Susan, (I won't call her a Doctor or Dentist because she doesn't deserve that title and mind you, I am very respectful but I lost my respect to this Susan) was mean. I came here to get my tooth fixed, I have a crown on my front and got a hole because I had that for more than 3 years. In all honesty, *take note of this* I was with my mom everytime I would go to my dentist or doctor back home (different country), so as my mom being a mom, she was the one that always talk with my previous dentist (which was in different country) about the issues of my teeth. I really don't care about my teeth before so I would just let my mom talk to my previous dentist. So I was in this Susan's clinic, they called my name, the other "dentist", she doesn't look like Asian to me, check on my teeth and after that didn't do or say anything! Didn't even say that I have to wait for this Susan! I waited for good 20 minutes sitting on that dental chair! But good thing, they have a nice assistant, he told me that I'll need to wait for Susan. So obviously I did, as if I have a choice? LOL! Susan came, I can already sense the bad vibes, she checked my teeth, and she embarassed me, there was another patient, and they treat the other patient nicely. I mean I don't care, maybe because the other patient was a long time patient, but that doesn't mean you can be mean to your new patient. The assistant took the x-ray of my teeth and this Susan saw a little hole looking on the x-ray, because I have a nose piercing, and she was like "what is that!?" And I was like "my piercing" she really don't care at first, but when I opened my mouth she saw my tongue piercing, and she said out loud, LITERALLY like "that's why I don't like people with piercing it ruins your teeth" and I was getting pissed already, but I kept my cool, (I had my tongue piercing for a while now, and my previous dentist didn't even say anything about it) I was thinking "why say such things, you don't have to judge someone with piercings, I mean I'm aware it affects the teeth, but that's WHY YOU'RE A DENTIST, WE PAY YOU TO FIX OUR TEETH AND NOT TO JUDGE! And while she was looking inside my mouth, she was making sounds like "tsk!" while nodding her head as if she was pissed, I mean I'm aware that my teeth aren't perfect and nice tho :( Moving on, she kept asking me questions, and to be honest that time, I forgot the term "dental crown" so I said "jacket" because that's what we call it in my country, she was like "what is that?" So I had to explain. And she kept asking me questions, I would answer if I know, and there's one question I forgot, and to be honest again, I really don't know the answer, because like what I've said, it was my mom that knows about my teeth issues, and my mom is on the other side of the world! SUSAN LITERALLY said out loud while laughing "YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING??" and I felt embarrassment and stupid!! I got quiet and I was so close on walking off! And there was another patient in there! I mean like, can she not be that mean?! WHO DOES SHE THINK SHE IS?! Just so you know, it's my fault that I didn't call my mom first to ask her things because she was doing chemotheraphy that time, but I mean, can Susan be a little nice when it comes to the first time patients? AND Susan told me that she can't do the issue that I'm having with my tooth because she needs to see the other things such as my past x-rays, and I told her "I can contact my previous dentist and ask her to send me copies" and she said "no blah blahh" so I asked her again with pissed face "so you're telling me to go back to my home country and get it?" She said "no" as well. I kinda didn't understand her but I don't care anymore because I was already thinking of not coming back.. She just referred me to someone else. And I'm sorry, call me disrespectful but, but when I'm about to leave, I didn't say thank you to any "dentist" that was in there, only to those assistants, to be honest the guy assistant did a lot more than this Susan. I really wanna share more but these were the over the top ones.. ALL I GOT WAS EMBARRASSMENT. SHAME. *And Susan, be respectful, you're a dentist and you're older but it doesn't mean you can be disrespectful and treat people anything you want. Respect is earned, not given. read more

(-) NEGATIVE STAR'S Apparently SUSAN CHANG's DDS Title lacks Skill-Set when it comes to patient's asking questions ... or rather Dr. CHANG's patience when it involves patient's questions! Especially, when it comes to Dental Insurance. When it comes to appointment-setting or anything associated with your dental coverage via reception desk ... "It's literally like pulling teeth!" Communication obviously isn't a hiring criteria, although staff is excellent in pacifying fires started by Dr. CHANG's lack of mannerism. On referral for a Root Canal by another dentist, I ended up here. After CHANG's examination & X-ray's (08-14-18), she concurs on the Root Canal. Here's where CHANG's rude & condescending demeanor surfaces! CHANG states that my insurance only covers $1,000 and the Root Canal will surpass that amount! (This is BullCrap, because I recently revamped my Dental Insurance during Open-Enrollment thru my employer) Keep in mind, that I'm still in the patient chair when CHANG sarcastically makes this statement! I immediately sit up to inquire & address my concern regarding insurance coverage, whereas, CHANG turns her back to me, gets up and starts walking away. Then flippantly looks over her shoulder, stating "Your insurance isn't going to cover it!" Enter office staff's commendable attempt to console me, "Oh, that's just the way she acts sometimes." ARE YOU SERIOUS?! And I'm supposed to allow CHANG to treat me?!! I kindly informed CHANG's staff person, that I won't be returning. I think SERENA B. I'm absolutely seething right now! Our insurance changed, yet again, so I needed to go through the process of getting a pediatric dentist referral for my children (our insurance will cover a pediatric dentist but requires a referral from the general dentist). I called the office and the receptionist was almost impossible to communicate with! She asked for our last name multiple times and even when I spelled the last name more than 20 times (I truly am not exaggerating) - she still couldn't get it. I advised her we were new patients and she said I would have to call the insurance and have them fax our information. I asked for their fax number and she rudely said, "Dey shoo hab that on file." Then, she spewed off the fax number and told me again, "Hab the insurance fax to us and I call you back to schedule." I contacted the insurance and requested the information be faxed - they were a bit puzzled why I needed the info faxed. I informed them the office couldn't locate our info since we were new patients (although I wasn't entirely sure she was looking up the correct last name because she never quite got it right despite spelling it for her the aforementioned 20+ times). The insurance indicated they shouldn't be searching by name but by our subscriber ID number. Nevertheless, they agreed to fax the info and, lo and behold, they asked for the fax number (just as I figured they would). An hour later the receptionist calls back and the difficulty continues - because now she realizes that I'm trying to book an appointment for more than 1 child. The soonest appointment for only one child was 3+ weeks away and would be 2 hours... WOAH - hold on a moment here... I don't want the children to be treated, I only want the dentist to send a pediatric referral (this has never been a problem in the past - our previous general dentists have all kindly sent referrals without even performing an exam since these are young children - ages 3+). That is apparently out of the question here. The receptionist said the doctor HAS to perform an exam and take x-rays, etc... She said should would talk to the dentist and get back to me. Four days later I had yet to receive a return call. I called today to try to schedule an appointment for the referral. The receptionist was absolutely clueless for the first few minutes of the call and when she finally realized it was me, from a few days ago, she told me, rather rudely, "The doctor is busy. There are two patients in front of me. You can call back later?" Then, before I could even respond, she said, "Hold on!" Thankfully an English speaking employee then took over and I reexplained everything to him. He explained the doctor cannot send a referral without an exam and x-rays. I said I would consent to an exam but not to x-rays because the last time a regular dentist tried to take my children's x-rays it resulted in a round of tears (surprisingly, despite their loudness, they have incredibly small mouths - go figure). I explained it is my medical right to deny a procedure and/or x-rays and he said that is true. I asked when the next available appointment is for the children and he said it wouldn't be for "quite some time." To his credit, he was very nice and understanding. I knew this wasn't his job and he was just trying to help. I was transferred back to the receptionist to schedule the appointments. When she picked up the phone she said, "You need to contact Cigna HMO and ask them to assign a new dentist - we cannot see you." BACK THE TRUCK UP... First, we don't have Cigna HMO - but that's irrelevant... I asked, astonished, "You are not going to schedule an appointment?" "Yes, the doctor cannot see you. She cannot make referral without exam and x-rays." "I understand that. However, I agreed to an exam. I have the right to decline the x-rays." "You call the insurance and get a new dentist - doctor does not want to see you." "Just so we're clear... You're refusing to treat my children?" "Yes." WOW! "Thank you. Please know that I will be writing and posting an online review so others will know of your atrocious business." I have filed a formal complaint with our insurance. I'm also in the process of determining whether a complaint can be filed the Dental Board of California for age discrimination (refusing to treat minor patients). My family have Dr. Chang as family dentist for almost 10 years. I could not say enough good thing about her practice. My oldest son had problem with gag reflex, he could not sustain any dental or oral procedure without gagging contraction in the mouth. Dr. Susan Chang is kind enough to spend two to three times of work in performing procedure on my son. To this day, Dr. Chang is the only dentist my son is comfortable to visit. My wife had a difficult tooth implant and Dr. Chang helped introduce a great orthodontics specialist. The implant treatment was difficult and took long period of time. During the long period of the treatment, Dr. Chang interacted with the specialist with great attention to details and professionalism. Dr. Chang is professional and provide great service. Dr. Chang is so great that I almost don't want to leave a good review so she won't be too busy:p Her work is precise. Another dentist who doesn't know her happened to see my teeth that dr. Chang had worked on, and he was impressed, almost surprised how accurately the filling was done. She's generous. You DO need to make an appointment, but she had squeezed me in for an urgent situation where I had to get a tooth or 2 fixed immediately. Unlike other dentistry that require you to make multiple visits to fix a tiny thing, charging you for no work, she gets it done quick. The price is affordable. On top of her state of art job, it's reasonable. Staff members are professional and warm. They treat you like their family. Recommended. read more

Dr. Chang has been an excellent dentist; she takes a personal interest in your dental needs, does a great job, has a very good staff, and is cognizant of financial limitations by doing her best to meet them with reasonable prices. I'm sorry the previous reviewer had the trouble she wrote about, but I've never had an issue with Dr. Chang or her staff and her professional approach prompted me to refer another person to her practice.
