It was also cool that they had a temporary exhibit in partnership with a local high school, where students got to display and present their work. So not only is this gallery an artistic gem, but it's also community-oriented. Super awesome find right by the Lincoln commuter rail. If you're in the area, I'd definitely recommend checking it out. Well, that was all we needed to head inside. The store is gorgeous with framed canvases, unframed canvases, and hundreds of frames everywhere. The store has a huge inventory, but it was super-neatly organized and felt uncluttered. We saw art styles of every description - landscapes, seascapes, abstracts, realistic and stylized human and animal portraits, a very deep variety of colors, artistic approaches and sizes. We had recently remodeled a bathroom and wanted a piece of artwork to hang there. We both agreed on a 12"x16" oil painting of a gray seascape with a lighthouse, beach/ocean scenery, moored boats and a full moon. The color themes perfectly complemented our wall color, and what's even better is that we could choose whatever frame we wanted. We went with a grayish/white distressed frame that reminded us of driftwood. Man -- it was perfect. The store will be closing soon because the owner is retiring, so there are some very sweet sales going on right now. For the oil painting and frame, we paid $84.53 and had the pleasure of working with Gallery manager Lisa Amado to transact the purchase. She packaged everything up so carefully and gave us such detailed hanging instructions, you'd have thought we just bought the Lost Ark of the Covenant!

Beautiful glass pieces adorning the glass windows in beautiful shades, catching the light sometimes... just calling me in for a visit! I just love glass... We were getting dinner at Fellini's and drive by again. I had some time to kill so we went inside. I was not disappointed. A store filled, almost every crevice, with glass pieces. Mushrooms, mermaids, flowers, little animals, tiki glasses, etc... So much to look at. Sitting on shelves, hanging from the ceiling... The employee became very personable when I engaged her about my love of glass. She told the two 11 year olds I was with about a box in the back of the store they could each pick out a piece of free sea glass. They loved that! she gave me the owners business card alerting me that you can go to his studio and watch him make glass pretty much during daytime hours and not far from the gallery. Pretty cool! The prices- range from super affordable to pricey but it's glass and general handmade craftsmanship. Expected. I did buy a beautiful blue flower to replace one that had broken from an unstable shelf incident a few years ago for $20. I bought a small ceramic bowl that was from a local artist. Inside the bowl had an image of the RI State house inside (a gift.) Also each pre-teen got to pick a little glass figure that were $4 a piece. They loved this!

What an amazing artist space!…read more The owners, Norv and Amanda, are possibly the nicest people ever, and have done a fantastic job redesigning this old factory building into a HUGE, elegant space for artists of all kinds. You can get your own space, or share open space with access to pottery wheels and a kiln for a minimal price. It's kind of like an artist's dream - the inspiring space, the friendly community, the freedom to work alone or in the company of others... And the gallery is beautiful, with huge ceilings and exposed brick, and striking work by the members. They have several shows a year, well worth seeing.

This gallery is located in a basement space which is a little sad compared to the main gallery. Then I moved onto the main gallery. The gallery is divided in different style with Asian furniture on one side and more modern art on the other. I really enjoyed the Susan Freda collection of copper dresses and illustrations. There is also a selection of jewelry, shoes, and photography. Unlike the visiting gallery, the staff here were pretty aloof even with a customer that was looking to buy. Like most art galleries, the prices are in the range of something I could never afford, but that doesn't mean that I don't enjoy walking around and appreciating the art.

Gigi (sp?) from the gallery told us that the owner, Alexander "Sandy" Nesbitt, was out at the Newport Folk Festival with many other pieces and that we should check back after the Festival to see if our piece was among those he took with him. We came back the next day, and a different woman (apologies for forgetting your name) kindly looked up our piece in the inventory and told us there was one left at Sandy's main gallery at the other end of Thames St. She was able to have us purchase it at Blink and have it put aside at the other studio. When we got to the other studio the piece was nicely wrapped waiting for us, and we were able to have a great chat with Sandy about his art, the festival, and much more. In the past I needed to travel to New York City in order to experience the depth of fine art that I was driven to seek out. As a painter and gallery owner myself I would spend whatever time was necessary to travel to be able to see really extraordinary art galleries and as I have said they are generally located in New York City, but that has changed. A friend of mine recommended an art gallery in East Greenwich RI. I was certainly skeptical but nevertheless I took the time to go to East Greenwich from Cape Cod and I've got to tell you that it is an understatement to say it was worth it. The breadth and quality of the art that I viewed at New England Contemporary Fine Art is the absolute best that I have seen this side of New York City! If you have a chance or an opportunity to visit East Greenwich RI I cannot even begin to tell you how much you will enjoy this gallery! I met the gallery owner, i think her name was Laura, and she couldn't have been more welcoming and informative. I so enjoyed visiting this gallery and was so happy to find this quality of fine art so much closer to home than New York City that I wanted to share it with all of you. Honestly, if you're looking for an extraordinary fine art gallery this is the one to visit. I wound up purchasing two small paintings and I just love them!!
