Very disappointed. Ordered on Uber eats and put a note for 2 white sauce with volcano roll. Note was ignored. Second time I thought I'd give them another try. Ordered on Uber eats put a note and this time called and spoke to a girl and she said yes they would do it. Received order and once again request was ignored. To me not having sauce with sushi, is like getting pasta with no sauce. I won't eat it then. I called and the same girl I had spoken to had zero reaction other than to say their was nothing that could be done. It's sad the customer service is so lacking. Thank god it wasn't an allergy or dietary restriction they ignored so blatantly. There are enough restaurants in Central Florida that I don't need to return to this one! read more

Sushi 99 is a good spot if you want a quick sushi fix. Is it my first choice? Probably not but it's decently priced and they are very friendly. For what you pay, it's a pretty good deal. They give you mushrooms soup and ginger salad with your orders. The soup was great but the salad was pretty watery. It prevents the ginger from sticking to the actual salad, collects at the bottom of the bowl and it makes the overall salad a tad bland. I got the Sunomono to start and the same can be said about this dish. It was basically a diakon salad with various cuts of fish topped with roe. Im pretty sure the water came from the shredded diakon but overall it ended up making the ponzu sauce watery and bland. They were nice enough to give us a couple of their complimentary rolls which we did enjoy. They gave us two of their house rolls which were just tempura battered crab sticks covered in eel sauce. The other one seemed like half a jalapeño stuffed with crab fried with tempura batter with eel sauce too. I ended up getting the chirashi bowl and my date got a couple of rolls and various pieces of sashimi. The presentations were fun with little lights here and there. The cuts of fish which were pretty thick which was a definite plus and there was plenty of fish and rice. Overall, it was pretty good but I was just turned off by how watery it was. I'd like to see more from Sushi 99 in the future since they are good people. read more

Given the disclaimer that I pretty much order the same thing every time, this place is good. Also, I'm glad that they are here since the place that I used to get my sushi from closed. I mostly pre-order and pick up - 2 shrimp tempura rolls from the lunch special. Recently, I dined in for the first time and was surprised to get a free white soup, holiday roll (appetizer size) and salad (lettuce and dressing). Now that I know, I will be dining in a little more often. The holiday roll is good - normally, I would not have ordered it since I generally avoid imitation crab. It is pretty good - now I sometimes order a roll of it with a roll of shrimp tempura. I also like that they don't color the ginger pink - I always thought pink ginger was weird. And they have one of my favorite desserts on the menu...ice cream tempura! I mean, what good is tempura if you can't get a little ice cream inside?? :) The inside is beautiful and modern with nice, clean décor. I haven't had any negative experiences with the hostess/cashier or server. Except for the last visit where they forgot my ginger, my order is generally correct and hot. Definitely a fan. read more

When I can break free from the Twins and have a GNO my dinner of choice is: SUSHI! Restaurant: This dining spot is small. I was a bit confused as I looked for the grilled side but they prepare that in the back. We came on a Thursday at 6 and was able to get a booth luckily. Starters: We didn't order any but was given free Miso soups. It was very bland but who is to complain about free soup?! Rolls: Being a Salmon (raw) lover I immediately look for rolls with Salmon -- and not fried. There weren't many. I ordered the Sushi 99 Roll. It was the best of all of the rolls I got but I don't think the roll warrants the $12.95 price. Then I got the Spider Roll. A typical roll that is hard to mess up. It just just "ok". I also ordered the Kelmon roll. Again just ok. I also ordered sashimi bc there were so few raw specialty roll options I had to know if it was quality or just a bunch of sauces masking the fish. The salmon sashimi was good but paying by the piece was pricey. My friend ordered shrimp tempura. She said she wasn't impressed. She ordered 2 rolls to go and also didn't receive the sauce she asked for. Nothing burns me more than coming home with missing pieces to my take out order. Customer Service: They kept asking if we wanted anything else. We felt like we were being kicked out. My total bill with a large sake over $50. Most expensive and disappointing meal. We spent nearly $70 for one hibachi plate and three sushi rolls. While everything appeared clean and staff was friendly, the food was just bland and sloppily put together. The rice for the sushi was mushy and minimal, there was more cucumber in the sushi than anything and the flavor of that was over powering. It wasn't horrible, just wasn't great. read more

I thing this is the best sushi in Avalon Park. They have rolls for everyone. The service is great and I love that they provide miso soup while you wait for your rolls to come out. The restaurant is also charming and the decor matches the type of food they offer. I recommend to anyone who wants good sushi in East Orlando but doesn't want to drive far. read more

I been here a few times and I love it, you can't never go wrong with the food here. Coming from up north it was a challenge to find good sushi restaurant in Orlando I've been to a few but man sushi 99 kills it all the time. My favorite is the Ginza roll and the Kani salad but I've tried other rolls and are perfect as well like the Jax, sushi 99, and shumai. read more

We stopped in last night for a quick bite. Small establishment, nice use of space. The food tastes good and the portion sizes were reasonable. They brought out a clear broth soup with thin sliced mushroom, green onion, floaty tempura bits in it. Tastes a bit miso- ish? Also the brought out what seemed to be a tempura fried imitation crab stick drizzled with a sweet cream sauce. Some downsides for us - Jacob ordered the steak fried rice which is a 9.95 ish meal (he's a weirdo who doesn't eat vegetables) however what he got was a steak hibachi platter with noodles, rice, veggies (standard hibachi stuffs. They also provided a squeeze bottle of white sauce which I mention because I understand many people are crazy for in hibachi restaurants.)..this alternate of course is a 17.95 meal. We brought up that we had ordered something else but they didn't offer any solutions, just sad faces. We felt too bad for them and too hungry to send it back. He ate around all the stuff he didn't want but was sad to be spending much more than he expected originally for stuff he really didn't want to eat. As for my sushi, I really enjoyed all the rolls I got. I will edit the photo captions to include the names later. I was happy the menu wasn't flooded with cream cheese rolls. (I think it's gross with sushi) disappointed there wasn't really much in the way of yellowtail amongst the rolls but I was told I can add yellowtail with an added up charge. (2.49 in my case) In the end we got out of there at 70$ for the two of us, which was kind of surprising. Finally a quality Sushi restaurant in East Orlando. We have waited a really long time with some 3 star restaurant that were good but lacked true sushi quality fish. Very nice ambiance but small. For the strip mall it is in, it works. It was busy so it looks like the secret it out. Sushi99 will be around for awhile. read more

We stopped in tonight and had such a great experience. They greet you promptly and bring you miso soup. They then brought us a nice little fresh fish salad , free. And then a little fried cooked roll , for free. I could have eaten that and left bc I was not very hungry. But no , that seemed wrong lol. So we ordered a feast. We ordered 5 specialty rolls and they were beautiful and tasty. The sweetheart roll was in the shape of hearts laid flat and was almost too pretty to eat. But all that tuna called my name. The watermelon roll was shaped to look like watermelon wedges and was so good with crab salad and fresh tuna. The mango roll was great but seemed like dessert bc it was so sweet. The spicy tuna was standard. The volcano was not the normal baked orange gloopy one which was a minus for my hubby but I liked it better. The service was perfect. We will be coming here more often. Loved, loved this location. They offered complimentary miso soup and an appetizer (which was a mix of sweet and salty). They have variety of combinations of sushi rolls. I attended this location with 2 of my friends and fellow yelpers and I have to say that it was a great experience. We all ordered different sushi rolls and we tried them all. This is a solid sushi spot for me. I have been here a couple of times for lunch and dinner. Sushi 99 is a cute little restaurant with cute decorations. It has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. The waitresses are super nice and service is always prompt and professional. My favorite thing to get here is the sashimi, especially the sashimi lunch. The sashimi cut is thick and fresh. The sashimi lunch comes with 8 pieces of fish, each tastes delicious. One other thing I love about this place is that they always give you miso soup, a salad and a free fried imitation crab appetizer (whether you're there for lunch or for dinner). I have also tried the sushi rolls here and they all tasted great and very fulfilling. The sushi art here is unbeatable, the chef definitely puts a lot of work into food presentation. I came here on a Tuesday night by myself and sat at the counter. When I first arrived I was the only person in the restaurant. Seems like most people order the food to go. I order the meat gyoza (fried) to start as well as the Ginza roll and a sweet potato roll. The meat gyoza was good, but nothing spectacular. It seemed to be maybe previously frozen and not home made. The Ginza roll I modified a bit taking off the crab and adding avocado. The roll was sliced extremely thin which was great, but the spicy tuna inside was over cooked (the roll is fried) and the avocado had brown spots. I have had many rolls before similar to the Ginza and this was by far the worst one I have ever had. Service was good, but again no one was in the restaurant. I was just looking forward to some good sushi and I was very disappointed. read more

We came here for lunch but for what we wanted we ended up just getting five sushi rolls: sweet mango, USA, volcano, spicy tuna, and the rock and roll. They were all amazing. The USA was especially great. It's sushi so you can expect the usual prices. They throw in a soup and this little appetizer sushi thing as well that was really great. The service was interesting. She was good just not very friendly. The food came out very fast however. I definitely recommend this place. We will be back. Edit: Have been back at least two more times now. Service is typically nice and fast. Not super talkative but efficient. This most recent time we got the triangle roll, jaguar, and crunchy. Jaguar wasn't excellent but the other two pretty great. Especially enjoyed the triangle roll which was actually pretty expensive even for sushi at $16 the other two more reasonable in price. They do serve a miso type soup before you even order. My fiancé loves it, for me it's a little more bland than other soups I've had. Then they serve their krab roll I believe which seems to just be a krab stick deep fried and covered in a mayo and soy sauce type blend. That one we are both a fan of and it comes on the house. We have been to several other sushi places looking for one near us that is flawless. Have yet to find it but when we want consistently good sushi in a good atmosphere we come here. Could be the little freebie touches they offer, the fast and efficient service, the reasonable prices, or maybe it is just that their food really is a step above the other places we have been. I've been eyeing Sushi 99 since I saw it open and after my first trip I'm happy to report it will be a regular spot I'll visit! Upon sitting down you are immediately served a few soup and a free sample appetizer- both delicious. In my few trips I've tried probably 8-9 different rolls (I've visited with the boyfriend, I didn't eat al of that myself) and everything we have had has been good. It only is everything tasty but their presentation game is on point! Our volcano roll came to us glowing multi colors, the plates always have some fancy picture drawn in sauces, and I even had a tree scene made out of celery on one plate. Full time fancy! I wouldn't put Sushi 99 up against my favorites around town but this is a solid neighborhood choice. read more

I feel like Sushi 99 is overall a pretty good sushi restaurant, so I want give them the benefit of the doubt and give them the fourth star. Really, it'd be closer to 3.5. The service is very good, and the people we dealt with were friendly. We got a free appetizer to start, a fried krab stick with a drizzle of white sauce. After we had ordered, we each also got a free cup of mushroom soup. It was a nice touch. I also ordered a seaweed salad, which tasted fine but was a bit disappointing because of its small size and $5 price tag. My initial instinct was to order the chirashi, but instead we ordered four rolls for dinner. Choosing the rolls was more difficult than we had hoped, largely because the menu seems to lean very heavily toward cooked rolls and ingredients like cream cheese. Combined with the fact that we were given a huge squeeze bottle of white sauce after putting in our sushi order, you can tell where the focus is here. We found some that looked okay: Double Salmon, Fire Tuna, Sweet Heart, and Crazy Tuna. We enjoyed all four of them, although everything other than the Sweet Heart (which was wrapped in rice paper) lacked any structure, they had a very soft and mushy texture. The flavors were fine though. Unfortunately, the special rolls with the raw components also tend to skew high from a price perspective. Three of our four rolls were special rolls and the average price was $13. I'd be happy to come back to Sushi 99, but next time I'll be skipping the special rolls and going with the chirashi or something similar. read more

So happy that Sushi 99 has joined our community! We stopped in today for lunch and were pleasantly surprised at the interior which was much nicer than we had expected - being in a small strip mall, and an old Quizno's location. The decor is modern lounge/trendy without trying to feel like a nightclub like some other places in the area. We were immediately greeted by some employees and shown to our table. While we went over the menus, we were brought bowls of soup (I believe they were the "clear soup" listed on the menu, but the waitress did not identify it by name). It was delicious, with a pleasant, but not an overly strong flavor. We hadn't ordered soups, but all of the lunch specials include it. I'm not sure what they would have done had we not ordered off the lunch menu. We ordered a sashimi lunch and the three rolls special (spicy tuna, yellowtail, and eel & cucumber). The lunch specials also included salads. Not the best salads we've had - a few too many iceberg hearts, and not my favorite dressing, but enjoyable. As we finished these, the waitress brought out a house special appetizer. I didn't catch the name, but tasted like crab. The menu made no mention of the lunch specials including this, and it wasn't on our bill. It may have just been a special treat item since they just opened. Whatever it was, it was delicious. Our food came out pretty quickly, but there weren't many tables full while we visited. The sashimi ended up including tuna, salmon, albacore, yellowtail and fatty tuna. Each piece was sizable and delicious. The rolls were very good - nicely rolled without too much rice, and a good amount of fish. Not the best sushi I've had, but very well done. My wife ranked the sashimi amongst the better ones she's had. If sushi isn't your thing, they also offer cooked entrees, including the more common stuff like katsu, teriyaki, and tempura, as well as various teppan entrees (chicken, steak, shrimp). It looks like we've found our new go-to sushi restaurant in the area. read more

However, we weren't that impressed this time. We ordered the Fancy Dragon roll and The Fancy Q roll along with some nigiri sushi (mackeral, escolar, tuna, and eal); and, a TNT roll. Everything was served on a "bridge" platter, with Rachel failing to even explain which item was which. A glass of wine for my wife, a root beer for the kiddo and hot tea for me rounded out our order; but, with service and presentation so "perfunctory" we won't be in a hurry to return. read more
