I will premise this with a disclaimer: I am not a sushi girl. I don't eat seafood. I visited Sushi 99 for lunch with a friend for lunch and was excited to try some new hibachi in the Avalon area. The lunch special is $8.95 and comes with soup/salad and some sort of krab appetizer thing which I let my friend have all to herself. It'd be nice to have a non-seafood option to start off with! My friend ordered a sushi/sashimi combo. The server seemed a little put off when she asked which fish was in the sashimi but asked the chef and reported back to my friend. My hibachi was good but I've had better closer to my house. I was pleased it included stir fried udon noodles which I love. I took those and some rice home since the meal was fairly large. My friend was a little surprised when she got her bill since she ended up spending $16 after her special dish and drink. Keep an eye on your total! read more

Sushi 99 in Avalon Park is ran by the same owners of the Sushi 99 in Port Orange. Three and a half stars rounded up to four. Good sushi for the area. There are a far better places in quality around Orlando, but if you live in Avalon Park this is a nice convenient location that provides decent sushi. We did not order any of the hot foods, but I do hear that their hibachi is good. After ordering, we were served a light mushroom soup, standard ginger salad, and a free appetizer from the kitchen, which was two fried Krab sticks drizzled in white sauce (everyone's favorite used for hibachi) We ordered the love boat, which comes with 12 pieces of sashimi, 12 pieces of nigiri, one california roll, one salmon roll, and one special roll (chef's choice). I ordered two ikura (salmon roe) nigiris on the side as well. I think the sushi rice used on all of the sushi was a tad too sweet. For my salmon roe nigiri, the sweetness of the sushi rice overpowered the flavor of the salmon roe. The quality of the fish is good, but I've had a lot better at other sushi spots in Orlando. Again, it is good for Avalon Park since we don't have too many great sushi places in this area. If you live in the area, give Sushi 99 a try. read more

This place is a hole in the wall mom and pop that locate in the Avalon Park area in the same plaza as a Walgreen. It relatively new and close to our place so we decided to check it out. Surprisingly, it was worth the try! The decor is simple and clean. The menu has a large option which included sushi rolls, hibachi, sashimi, udon, and lunch special. I have been here for lunch and dinner and both time I was able to get in and out quickly. The best thing about the place is the free soup and appetizer. Also, the rolls are meticulously done and the plating is very detail and pretty. I am a sucker for pretty things! Overall, food is great and pricing is reasonable. This was the first time we came to Sushi 99 and I was super happy with the atmosphere, service and food! I ordered the spicy tuna roll, the shrimp tempura roll and the eel and cucumber roll. All three rolls were delicious. My mother ordered the pork katsu with fried rice. The katsu was delicious and crispy and the sauce that came with it was super tasty as well. The service was fast and everyone was super nice. We also got a complimentary on the house crab rangoon which was super delicious. We will definitely be back! read more

Tastefully decorated for the amount of space they have, Sushi 99 is the latest new restaurant to open in the Avalon Park/Timber Creek area. Seating accommodations are 4 tables that seat 4 each, 6 booths that seat 4 each, and a small sushi bar area with seating for between 4-6 people. All in all, it's small and quaint. However, what it lacks in size, it makes up for in taste and presentation. The children's meals were large - including soup, salad, and a ton of chicken, veggies and rice. We had to take home over half of each of their meals because it was so large. The sushi was fresh, delicious and the size it should be. Presentation was wonderful, as was the attentive service paid to us. Prices were reasonable, with the exception of single piece sushi/sashimi (but I say that as a person who lived in Japan and was able to get fresh sushi for extremely low prices). Other sushi locations in the area (specifically Bayridge Sushi) should be worried because Sushi 99 is hitting it on all cylinders. They also offer online ordering and I saw many people come in specifically for pick up of their orders. read more

This is some of my favorite sushi I've ever had. I get the spicy salmon roll and the jax roll (shrimp tempura with spicy tuna in top) which combines all my favorites for sushi. The first couple times I went, I got it to go but the other day my boyfriend and I went and ate inside. You definitely get more when you sit down! They gave us soup and a free fried crab appetizer. Something so important to me with sushi is consistency. Sushi 99 has the same great quality, always. I've dined in once and ordered take out millions of times. They are a bit pricey on sushi for a local restaurant, but the value is there. Compared with bigger chain stores, they are definitely one of my favorite sushi places in East Orlando. read more

I have to say this is one of the best sushi restaurants I have been in a while. Went there on a Saturday evening the first week I moved to the area. Used Yelp to find a sushi spot and this one caught my eye. It's located at a little strip mall and for a Saturday night it was pretty empty but decided to still give it a shot. Service was great and sushi was delicious. Fresh quality and pretty presentation. We ordered sake as well and it was served in a cut decanter that was certainly a conversation piece. Have gone to a few other sushi places around but none can beat Sushi 99. Did see that a lot of people came to pick up instead of eating in which could have explained why there wasn't as many patrons. Not your typical fried rice where it's tossed with a combination of vegetables etc. the only $8 so I guess it's worth the price but not your typical fried rice. Sweet shirmp sashimi is great comes with fried prawn heads that are yummy. Ordered black dragon roll and volcano roll both didn't disappoint. Had hibachi in the pass it's good if you want something quick and don't feel like going to KOBE. Service is service not bad not good, but their is a language barrier. I had just flown into Orlando and needed a quick lunch. I walked in, the place was empty. I ordered a few sushi rolls and they were poorly put together, but the flavor was okay. Unfortunately, the eel seemed to be a little off. It had a very fishy taste to it in just one of the bites, so I didn't eat any more of it. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Though, I was asked how my meal was every 5 bites. No exaggeration. I was having a conversation with my friend and they interrupted at least 7 times between the soup, salad and sushi. I'm bummed they don't deliver through any of the services, but that's my own lazy problem. I mean I live down the street, so I can deal. We've dined in and picked up, and each time the sushi has been delish! The servers are very attentive so food comes out swiftly and drinks are never left empty. If you dine in they bring you soup and a fried roll- not sure what it is but it's tasty. The shumai seems to be our favorite app, and we are working our way through the rolls, though I prefer the non-fried stuff. The TNT Roll, JB Roll, and Dynamite Rolls (basically anything with salmon) are regulars in our order. There's a sushi bar when you walk in, or you can opt to sit at one of the tables for more privacy. This is a great hidden gem in the Avalon hood! read more

Great little sushi place. After 7:30 - free saki bombs so of course we had to try this. The servers made the entire dining experience so much fun. I was impressed at how friendly they were. Prices are reasonable and portions are generous. From the chicken hibachi to the vast array of sushi choices. They started us out with complimentary soup and krab rolls. Wine selection was nice and the pour was extra large. Our server kept our water glasses filled and check back with us often. Sushi came out super quick. The ahi tuna appetizer was delicious. This used to be my favorite sushi spot. However, the last few times we have ordered from them its been getting progressively worse. I understand supply chain issues, staffing shortages, and inflation. So I hate to leave this review. This last time we ordered, they did not include wasabi or ginger...is this extra now? The other sushi restaurants in town still include this. They have raised their pricing on their food (like everyone, I do not blame them) but the quality is not the same. The Phoenix roll which has always been a favorite tasted like old sea water. I was afraid to eat it. My husband and I were very disappointed. If you are going to raise your prices then the quality should match regardless of the issues going on. Shorten your menu or change things up to account for some of the issues. Hopefully the quality of the food gets better. I will consider trying again but will be taking a break for a bit. Maybe they changed owners and this is the new norm. Not sure. read more

My fiancee and I just went there for lunch. I have been there a couple of times and I will say their lunch special is great. I usually get the hibachi lunch and it does not disappoint . They start you off with a soup and a salad, which are both pretty standard, but are included. They also give you what is a friend crab appetizer which is delicious. The hibachi itself comes with your choice of meat with vegetables or if you choose vegetables it comes with more veggies. You also choose white or fried rice and it also comes with noodles . Needless to say you will not go hungry . The price for the amount of food is definitely a great deal. This time we also got an appetizer of cold making this time around and that was a great presentation and quite tasty. So we came here craving sushi and after seeing the awesome reviews, living about 10 minutes way, we decided to go for it. As we walked in, we were immediately greeted by our server who was kind and excited to meet us. She brought menus, took drink orders and within two minutes brought us a complementary appetizer (forgot the name, but it was delicious) and the best miso soup I've had. Neither of theses were charged to our bill. She asked if we lived nearby and how we had heard about them. After a short conversation, she left us the menus and returned within a few minutes. Juan order two Spicy Tuna Rolls (around $6 each) and a Volcano Roll, made of oven baked conch, crab, fish eggs, mayo on top of crab snow and cream cheese ($ 9.95). I ordered a Rock & Roll maki roll ($6) which was made of Shrimp Tempura, crab, avocado and cream cheese. Additionally, I also ordered the Volcano roll. Order did not take long before it arrived and the presentation was both creative and intriguing. Fiancée pointed out that entrées should never have items that are not edible, but I didn't mind it. We were happy with out food and service. Juan had ordered sweet tea, which he loved and I drank water. Our bill was $41 and we were satisfied. Pretty sure we will come here again in the near future. I went on a Sunday afternoon with a large group of family friends - loud, Latin, and hungry! This is a small restaurant so we took up most of the dining area but luckily it was empty so it was no problem. They started out with some miso soup (yum!) and some delicious imitation crab starters (I asked our server a couple of times what they were called and unfortunately could not get a straight answer). Some of us ordered sushi and some of us ordered hot dishes. The sushi was unimpressive, falling apart at first touch and making it impossible to eat. A couple of different rolls were ordered, but nothing that really satisfied any of those that ordered them. I got the chicken hibachi which came with "fried" rice, chicken, vegetables and noodles. The rice was most certainly not friend and instead was pretty wet and tasteless. The chicken was dry and overcooked and didn't taste like much unless drained in the white sauce. The vegetables were overcooked as well and did not taste fresh. One of my party ordered the vegetable fried rice and really enjoyed it - maybe this was different than the rice that gets served with hibachi dishes. The only dish worth mentioned positively is the salmon katsu - the salmon was juicy and cooked well and the sauce that accompanied it added just the right amount of flavor. A pretty disappointing experience at supposedly the "best" sushi restaurant on my side of town. read more

Finally got to try this place the other day and was pleasantly surprised. With all of the issues with Asian food in four area lately, it's nice to finally have a place to get my sushi and Japanese food fix. I had the hibachi steak and shrimp and it was so good. Their white sauce tastes just as good as the Kobe sauce. The decor is nice and clean and service was spot on. I feel dirty for not trying their sushi, but I'm sure it's just as good as the hibachi I had. Add this place to the list of places that I have to return to. Well done. read more
