All you can eat sushi has a ton of rice and minimal fish. The server and chef even said that you would get more fish if we would order off of the regular menu. Mediocre; I went in for lunch. The sushi is well rolled and they don't put too much rice. But they stuff most of their sushi with a watery vegetable, which wasters down the taste. Their California roll has minimal crab. Their sushi sauce is lacking sweetness. The shrimp tempura they use is also very small. Some of the items I ordered included the crunch but none of them actually had it. Their miso soup is very bland and they use cheap tofu, yes tofu has quality they aren't all the same. What a great surprise to find this little place tucked in next to Dierberg's in O'Fallon! I took the Spicy Tuna Roll and Spider Roll home and was pleasantly surprised at the quality and flavor of both of the rolls. The service was unfortunately slow and in slow motion. There was a table that discussed leaving if their order was not taken soon as I waited for the rolls to be prepared. I will be returning, but will call ahead for the takeout. First impression on my first time here was disrespectful. My boyfriend and I were looking for a late night dining after work on a Tuesday night. We found Sushi Ai closed at 10 pm so we decided to head over. We got there at 9:15 pm. Before setting foot inside, we were told the sushi bar closes at 9:30 pm and they were only taking to-go orders. Now this is clearly a tactic being pulled by the employees in order to get out early. No matter what, if you advertise that you close at a certain time, follow your policy. Your name clearly advertises SUSHI and the sushi bar closes at 9:30? While on the door, it says you close at 10 pm. Wow. In the long run, customers would rather drive the extra mile to go to Kitaro if this disrespect keeps up. read more

Short version: terribly slow service (although friendly enough), inconsistent quality, way too much cream cheese on rolls that call for it (skimping on quality ingredients?) Longer version: I've tried to give this place a chance to change my opinion several times... too many times, I think. First thing I learned (and was reminded of on the second visit) was that they use way too much cream cheese in the sushi rolls that list it as an ingredient. Not sure if they're skimping out on the rest of the ingredients or what... Secondly, their service is kind of a mess. The staff is friendly enough (can't say I've seen anyone smile in there though), but the way they prep the food is totally backwards. I've been there for lunch a few times and they often have only one chef preparing sushi with the restaurant fairly crowded. That's understandable if you're short staffed for whatever reason, but if one person orders chicken teriyaki and another person orders sushi, you can bet your friend will get theirs and be finished eating before you see a single roll. I cannot understand why they don't either A: wait on prepping the other dishes until they can start on sushi, or bring out shush as it's finished rather than waiting till it is complete finished. I've waited almost an hour for sushi while coworkers were completely done and looking at their phones. Third: the quality of the food is irregular. I have gotten good rolls and sushi here (again, avoiding the cream cheese), but the last time it seemed like someone knocked the vinegar into the rice. The rice was almost too sour to eat! Unfortunately I had ordered 2 rolls and several pieces of sushi, and their policy is eat everything you order or pay extra for the all you can eat. Rather than argue with a manager, I ate it and left. I have had other good meal here, but they were not sushi. Sadly, after visiting several times now, I will not be going back. Out of all of the locations I have been to for the all you can eat Sushi this one is by far the best. They seem to always be fresher, and more carefully crafted. I always leave very satisfied. I highly recommend this place if you want all you can eat. If you want just a roll or two, i'd go elsewhere, but this place is hard to beat for quality and quanity. read more

DO NOT GO HERE I would give this zero stars if I could. The waitress who seated us rushed us to a table in the far back of the restaurant and impatiently waited for us to order. This was my first time at this location and she hovered and seemed annoyed when I asked any questions about the menu when absolutely no ingredients were listed on most of the menu items. I was worried I was being a bother and just went with the shrimp tempura, the friends I was with went ahead and ordered sushi rolls. When my tempura arrived it was undercooked and soggy. The coating tasted like funnel cake batter and the tempura vegetables were so large they were still cold in the center. It was also served with some oily sauce that tasted like straight up sesame oil, not at all the normal savory sauce. My friends offered me some of their sushi rolls and the rice was WARM. My fiancée ordered the honey roll and it was nothing but cream cheese and rice, absolutely no crab at all. Our friend ordered the rainbow roll and the fish was paper thin and nearly translucent. After a few bites of her tempura roll my fiancée bolted to the restroom and puked. We quickly decided it was time to leave. We tried to tell the waitress about our issues with the rolls but she wasn't understanding us. None of the staff were wearing name tags either. We decided to just pay for our food and leave. Overall the quality of everything we ordered was disgusting, the rolls we ordered were warm as if they had sat under a heat lamp. I would recommend gas station sushi more. I love sushi and I have had it from many places all over the country. When I moved from one of my favorite sushi places, I really wanted to find a place around my house where the sushi was good! Let me tell you, sushi is not cheap either. As a college student, I can't go out and get sushi rolls that are 12.00 dollars a roll which is what most places cost. You CANNOT beat 20 dollars for all you can eat sushi. And the sushi is good! It isn't the best sushi I have ever eaten but it beats other places that charge 4 times as much! The service is pretty bad but I can withstand a rude waitress for the price I pay. It makes eating sushi affordable and I can go out with my friends and not spend my whole paycheck! First my wife, had been going here several times a month for over 6 years. My 12 year old saved his money to take me out to dinner for Father's Day this past Sunday. All of a sudden I break out in hives, turn bright red, and my throat starts swelling. My wife jumps, up and starts asking if any of them had been eating melon or handling raw melons, and not washed their hands because I go into shock immediately. Our server shows my wife a tub of honey dew she was eating in between taking people their orders. My wife starts explain that I have a fatal allergy to melons, and I have to get to the hospital immediately before my throat fully swells shut. The server, and another one start laughing about it, and blowing my wife off. As we were rushing out the door to get to the hospital 4 blocks down the road the stop us, and make my 12 year old pay the $52 bill. We didn't even get halfway through our meal. I ended up spending the majority of Father's Day in the hospital. The next day I went in, and was talking with the what I thought was a manager. I explained to him what happened, how they still made my son pay as we were trying to get to the hospital, and I know have a $200 medical bill because of what happened. I explained that my concern was getting my son's money back because of their unsanitary employee we didn't even get to finish our meal, and it was wrong that we had to spend Father's Day in the emergency room. He told me they were not authorized to give refunds, and I needed to call the owner's wife so she could call, and give them authorization to do a refund. He said he was giving me the owner's wife cell phone because the owner himself doesn't speak English. I called her, and she told me she would give the employees authorization, and would call me back that evening. She never called me back so I called her again the next day. She, and this is her exact words, "I spoke with the employee, and she said she didn't touch your plate with the hand she was eating her melon with so we are not going to refund your money." . You would think owning a restaurant they would know how cross contamination works. I explained that my concern was just getting my son's money back that he worked hard for. She restated her previous statement. I explained to her I have managed restaurants for over a decade, and this is very serious, and she can be reported to the health department. She proceeded to laugh at me when I told her that. I told her that I am now going to pursue further action because this is very serious. She laughed at me more. I said "Ma'am have a nice day. I am contacting the health department, and will be looking into further actions." I immediately called the local health department, and I was informed they're sending a health inspector there for a surprise inspection, and they will be having a meeting with the owner's, and all of their employees. We had been loyal customers for years, and always referred people there. Never again! read more

Sushi is average to poor. Slightly fishy and rice was not fresh. Almost every roll offered has something fried in it. Also tried seafood noodles. Noodles were like ramen and very salty. Also the shrimp still had tails on them. :( Mens Bathroom was clean but like 90 degrees for some reason. Also our table was wobbly and though minor this drives me nuts. Ok positives.... Atmosphere was good and I liked the background music. Also the drinks are cheap and their hot tea was very good. Judging by the people who come to this place, this is a place for some serious sushi. Prices are affordable. 12.99 for unlimited sushi which seems to be the most favorite. Went with my family. Party of 11. We were not able to sit together without waiting for a long time so decided to split up into two separate booths. Our service was very slow and not friendly. Sushi was good but when came time to pay check, they included an 18% tip because we were a large party. We did not even sit close and only three at my table. Separate checks from other group. I don't feel our server earned an 18% tip. It took forever to get some of our food and our check. I have gone there many times before but I won't be back. Very disappointing service. read more
