Walked in the front door, and so many people we're waiting. I was like It's gonna be a while. (Those people waiting for take out) Nope, 5 in our party and we we're sat right away. 4 of us got the all you can eat, & other got a tuna pizza ! The service was pretty quick once everyone was ready, picking all you can eat sushi is difficult. They have quite a selection, raw & cooked, some tempura & nigiri. Stopped in on a Wednesday just after 5pm and it was already packed. I just wanted to to a to go order not sit down. They have a specific spot for to go and pick up orders., based on what I ordered, one roll and seaweed salad the wait was a min of 30 minutes. A small intimate spot so can get fairly loud pretty quick. I noticed that they also have outside seating for those who enjoy the outdoors. Good grief. Calling this sushi has GOT to be a sin. It is edible, but it's not like anything you'll find at any other typical sushi place. All of the "sauces" supposedly on the rolls (kewpie mayo, sriracha, honey, wasabi, eel sauce, etc.) are in some kind of jelly-like minced crab or tempura flake brick of paste layered heavily on top of the roll. The wasabi packets included in my take out meal were oily and sticky, not like any wasabi paste I've had before. The pickled ginger was also in a packet , which was just unusual. While tonight I got takeout, I have eaten inside at a few Sushi Ai locations including this one and the sushi has never been this disappointing. I don't know if maybe it's slightly better in the restaurant or if this place really has gotten that bad. Over all, the food is cheap and the flavor is fine, I guess. The wasabi packets are truly awful and the texture of all the "sushi" was very gummy. I just really can't believe so many people in our local area tout Sushi Ai as their "favorite sushi place" when I think it can barely even pass itself off as fast-casual Japanese-American fusion food. read more

St. Charles Sushi Ai was a great experience. It's a smaller restaurant than the St. Louis location but it also appears more updated. The restaurant and bathrooms seemed clean as well. I was please with the service as well as the food. I have to say that the parking here is much much better. They also have car charging stations for those who are curious. Having been to Japan several times. I assure you this place would be shut down before it opened. Chicken teriyaki is not an entree. Although they call it that on the menu. My daughter really enjoys their sushi, but me.....not so much. Five of us went for dinner, and it probably took 15 minutes for all of us to get our food after the first person was served.... But our waitress was actually very good. I had the steak hibachi and the steak was not very well seasoned, dry and overcooked. This place use to be good. Uh, are you running out of fish? I've been going to Sushi Ai for a decade or two and this ratio of fish to rice to fish has never been this carby (if that's a word/it is now). The quality and/freshness was "ok" but on the decline. I've always preferred this restaurant over the Ofallon IL, or Arnold, Maryland Heights, or even the one down on Olive in the city. I have noticed a trend for all of them to be more centered on the bottom line and trying to stuff all us with the cheaper rice than providing a quality product. My family still likes this but it's just not worth it any more even though they don't even make you eat all of the extra rice any more. Yep, that's right. They now offer to-go boxes which for an all you can eat place is pretty damming. So I probably will not be back. I'll just pay the extra for less. And get some real sushi. We went here for dinner last night around 8 pm. The place was packed so it was about a 20 minutes wait. This is normal on Saturdays here, they have fun decor and somewhat welcoming staff. A customer I guess had thrown food in their open fish tank which was scary for all the fish in there don't know how they fixed that. The service was just ok. Our waiter rushed us through our entire meal and we did not feel welcome although the wait was gone by the time we sat down. She didn't bring our our salads and appetizers until after our sushi got there which made for chaos on the table since we all got AYCE. They served me tea in a dirty cup and claimed all the other cups were being washed or used so she just brought the same cup back... gross The tea kettle had no lid so the tea got cold fast and I was worried about things flying in there. The food was just ok, they did forget soms of my sushi and they don't tell you what you ordered like most places which was fine. I just would be cautious when visiting this location and please do not come when its busy it is not worth it I didn't take any pictures because like I said our table was over crowded with plates. read more

Seems like a popular place. Great service but I have three issues. 1. Sushi rice was dry. Made me really sad. 2. All you can eat Nigiri (rice on the bottom sushi fish on top) was very small portions. It was 7/8 rice 1/8 fish. All I tasted was rice. 3. The Avocado was brown and super super thin slices. I couldn't taste it on the nigiri. Bonus question: Salmon was room temperature. Consistent quality compared to the Maryland Heights location, perhaps because this location is much busier. Always happy here getting the AYCA lunch or dinner. We went here on a lunch time, me and my son. We just got off the movie theater where we watched the Black Panther. Believe it or not, we didn't get any popcorn because we saw the first screening at 10AM. The reason I said that is because we were preparing for the EAYC sushi in this place. I've been to their other store in Maryland Heights but I kind of like this place better because they offer some other food than sushi.
