He is a SPICE guy, like SPICY food is his thing, and he wasn't not impressed with the spice OR by the chili oil they gave him. I ordered a Bun Bo Hue for the first time, and I liked it! It was a nice comforting bowl of soup comparable to pho but more flavorful already. Our friend ordered the Pad Khi Mao, and he said it was decent - I think if the spice level was to his liking, he would have loved it! My husband ordered Chow Mein, and it wasn't bad! I liked his more than my soup and couldn't stop eating his lol. We ended up paying cash and we got 15% off our bill so that was great! When we ordered take out, I had a green curry and my husband had the Pad See Yu and it was fine then. I love a really aromatic green curry but it wasn't hitting it. Everyone has their own opinion and this one is mine. I absolutely love this restaurant. I have never had a bad meal here. I've always had great service even when they are short staffed...maybe because I'm a patient person or maybe because I know they always do their best. Mostly because the service has always been fast and friendly in my experience. I've been dining here for years, even when it was called Thai kitchen in the beginning. There have been many changes to the menu over the years and the menu is large and has a lot of great options. My favorite dishes are the Khao Soi , spicy basil grouper, Penang, grouper, pho, Vietnamese salad with shrimp, curry potstickers, and tom kha gai. Sometimes I get adventurous and try other dishes and I've always liked them as well. I can always rely on being seated right away. I don't know why there is not a wait for a table during dinner time, I feel like this place is still a "best kept secret." They should have much more business, but I do see a steady stream of people coming to eat and a high volume of takeout orders leaving. The chef owners are very hard-working people. Clean dinning room. Quick greeting and seating. Just as fast order to service time. We started with the Crispy Cheese Rolls. Just as creamy and crispy as a Crab Rangoon, but eats more savory. Then we had the Goi Cuon Rice Paper Fresh Rolls. I only wish there was a heavier greens (cilantro and basil) presence (personal preference). For the entrees we had the 2 Protein Pho with Rare Beef and Meatballs and Chicken Thai Fried Rice. The rice needed just a bit of soy sauce to bring out the flavors perfectly. The pho had a generous meat and noodle portion. The only thing that would have made it better was a more generous greens plate (basil, cilantro, and lime specifically), again just to add for personal preference. I've been a customer at this restaurant for over 10 years. I love it. I have noticed some changes over the years. But the taste of their food and quality is not one of them. The service is always good they are friends and kind when you come in, patient and allow you to ask questions. Or if you order via phone you receive the same service. PAD- Kee-Maw is my go to! The very nice lady sat and took my drink order promptly. I had a chance to look over the huge menu and it was hard to narrow down exactly what I was in the mood for. I've gone here for years but the last two visits have been below average. Last time, two weeks ago, I ordered pad Thai with extra lime. I got home and there was no lime. My mom and I had a light lunch here. Thai Spring roll appetizer with plum sauce was like having salad at the beginning of the meal. Vegetables soup seemed salty at first taste to my mom, but she ended liking the oriental vegetables. Tom Yum Kung soup to me seemed salty or spicier than what I really wanted. A cute little restaurant! I came in to pick up an order, and I loved that it was a family based business. I also loved that they really pay attention to detail. I was watching one of the employees set up a tray for coffee and tea, and she was so precise on where everything was laid out on the tray. It was very clean. I would say the ambience is very quaint and personable. When I walked in there, it's very subtle music playing, and everyone was pretty quiet. I had takeout from Viet-Thai and was pretty satisfied with the food we ordered. I tried a seafood chow mein, seafood and veggie yellow curry, and a fried grouper with veggies. Everything was tasty and flavorful. The fried grouper was my favorite of the 3 dishes I tried. I think that the sauce was more on the Vietnamese side of flavor palate, because I could taste the unique flavor of Vietnamese fish sauce. The fry was done well. The edges of the breading were so crispy. The seafood curry definitely had more of Thai flavors to it. I appreciated the mix of seafood including shrimp, squid, and surimi. We popped in for an impromptu lunch on a Saturday afternoon and the restaurant was not busy, as it was around 2 PM. I had an order of Pad Thai with chicken and my wife had an order of Thai Rama with chicken. The service was good and the meals were both fantastic. We only had one drink which was an iced tea and the check was around $37 total. The flavors are amazing but the ingredients (proteins specifically) are sooo poor. It's really such a shame. If this spot was in the city/STL county, they could be so much more successful. I'm giving this restaurant 5 stars because I've been going for years and I hope the owner fixes things. First of all, I was the only person in the whole restaurant at 4 PM. I had just got done with a Dr's appointment and it was in the midst of a family emergency so was preoccupied on my phone. The waitress kept coming to my table and asking me if I wanted to order an entrée. I asked her to give me a little time and she had an attitude about it. Why was she rushing me? There was nobody else in the restaurant and they were not about to close at 4 PM. I ordered the Thai spring rolls which were delicious, but I felt rushed to eat my appetizer instead of enjoying it. She needs a new job. Then I ordered the Pad Thai which I normally get and really enjoy here. It came out in less than two minutes and sitting in some broth that smelled terrible. I don't know what that was. I couldn't eat it. I asked for the check and the waitress was as rude as can be about it. The Pad Thai couldn't be fresh made if it came out in less than two minutes. It's been a very long time since I've been able to find Spring Rolls that aren't fried, so I knew I had to get an order. However I was at first deterred by the price. $5.95? That sounded awfully steep for a couple Spring Rolls. Nonetheless, I had to have 'em, so I ordered them anyway. WOW! Was I surprised. There were two but they were HUGE! Wish I had thought to take a picture before I devoured them. I was absolutely starving tonight, but normally, they would probably have been close to enough for a complete meal for me. I was just finishing the 2nd roll when the owner brought out my dinner. I was feeling adventurous so I tried something I'd never had before --- Pad Kra Prow. They also call it Spicy Basil. OMG what a treat. That's really all I can say --- it was just so incredibly good. I ordered it spicy level 4. It was perfect. Not so hot that it was uncomfortable to eat, but I could definitely taste and feel the heat. When it comes to Thai, I usually enjoy it so much that leftovers rarely happen. This time however, what with the epic sized Spring Rolls and the ample sized entree, I could only finish half. YAY! Get to enjoy it again tomorrow :) When I drink soda, especially when I have super spicy food with it, I tend to drink a lot of soda. My glass rarely got more than half empty. Definitely a busy place at lunch, BUT, I was beyond disappointed! I paid $12 for the lunch portion of vegetable Pad Kee Mao.... a dish I love. One would think that when one is not getting any meat, one would get a little more than the usual amount of veggies. If I did, then that means that there are NO veggies at all when you get meat! It was basically rice noodles, clumped together at that, in a mild thai-ish kind of sauce. Very unsatisfying, and I can't find a single reason to return to try anything else! I was looking for a place for my birthday lunch in a few weeks, but this isn't it!!! Crikey, I can do better than that myself at home, and I'm disabled! And the worst part? Everything else I saw people eating looked really good, filling, and delicious with plenty of veggies..... why so few veggies for the VEGETABLE Pad Kee Mao??? And where's all the delicious saucy goodness I've always enjoyed at other Thai restaurants? These noodles were dry... they had sauce on them, but it wasn't saucy, if you understand the difference.
