Terrible service. We had a big group I know that can be demanding with having to cater to people's needs but shouldn't be to much to ask as its your job as a server. Slow slow. Received an appetizer that we had canceled that was swimming in ponzu sauce. Waiter spilled some on my head and did not apologize nor try to even acknowledge it! Hapa is gone, Sushi Spot is looong gone and Hana is now the only sushi place still on the hill. The last time i was in this building it was still hapa, and honestly not a whole lot has changed. It looks like who ever bought the business bought most of the equipment and plates that were already in the building. From what i can tell they painted one of the walls and that's about the only thing that changed. Even the menu is quite similar in terms of pricing and whats on it, however there are fewer items on the menu now. Good-Bye Nato Maki, you will me missed. Unfortunately they don't use the little sheet of paper you fill out to put down which sushi rolls you want. I always found that to be a really covenant way of ordering. Instead they have these giant ugly spiral bound menu's. They get the job done but they're less convenient than the paper. When my sushi rolls arrived i was surprised in there size. It's a thin line to walk deciding how much rice to put with a sushi roll, if there's to much it overpowers the flavor of the fish, and if there's too little it leaves you wanting for more. Unfortunately these rolls air on the smaller side... the MUCH smaller side, the California roll i had was easily the smallest sushi roll i had ever seen. All the other rolls we received where quire small as well. When your dropping $12 on a single roll i'd expect it to be bigger; even the $5.25 tiny cali roll seemed a bit pricy given the size of the roll. The nigiri was standard size however. The fish quality was quite good and is about what you'd expect from sushi grade fish that you can get in Colorado. The Rice preparation for the sushi rice seemed as if too much water was added into the steamer wile cooking the rice. I also detected some saltiness to the sushi vinegar, which i personally don't like. The wasabi on our plate was also poorly prepared. Since real wasabi root is so expensive most restaurants and home chefs make there wasabi by mixing wasabi powder with water. Generally you want it to be on the thick pasty side, if its thin pasty it won't hold its shape and it'll lack flavor. Unfortunately it was super thin here. I'm not sure if it was where i was sitting but most of the time i was seated i could smell the dish pit in the back. That smell of hot water and detergent mixed with everyone's leftovers. It's not a very appetizing odor. but it was pretty predominant for about thirty minutes of our meal. So overall, The food is pretty good however the portions are small (small even for sushi standards). There were enough things that were just slightly off to throw off our eating experience. So all in all if you don't want to deal with the sometimes awful parking on pearl this is an okay alternative to the sushi places around there. read more

I have came here before and had great food. This has nothing to do with the quality of the food, purely on service. I understand this is a small restaurant and can get very busy due to a lot of people wanting to eat here. We made a reservation for my birthday dinner at 830, arrived at 820 and stood around for 45 minutes to be seated. There was an empty table that we were told was for us for over 15 minutes that just needed to be cleared but they instead were talking to other guests who had already payed. We did not get seated till 915 and did not receive a water till around 930. We put out food and drink orders in as we sat down because we knew we would not get food if we did not. Everyone's food came out around 1020 (an hour later) without my order. The waitress said she would hurry it out. When it came out it was the wrong roll and all of my guests had already checked out. I asked to see a manager because our waitress was no where to be found and complained that I hadn't eaten a single thing because my order was wrong and took so long. They took my food and gave me the bill with the food still on it. The waitress 'sushed' me and walked away as I asked her to fix the bill and I did not see her again. I ended up paying for my meal with no discount, apology, and was dismissed the entire night. I am very upset I spent my money here and they could have cared less to fix anything Update: Came here for a to go order for a date because we were in boulder and the sushi we picked up was BROWN. We ended up not eating it and going somewhere else to pick food up for our picnic. The people who work here are rude and I've never really had great service here. read more

I don't even know where to begin. Wait yes I do. Last night we went to Sushi Hana and not only were we lied to about reservations but we were also severely over charged. Our waitress took 50% gratuity out of our table of 5 and when we confronted her about this she said it would be too hard to refund us. In total they stole around $30 from us last night and we are not happy about this. We were also told we could not place a reservation and upon arrival saw that 2 tables were being reserved for other parties. Over all if I could give this restaurant 0 stars I would. Terrible service. Our waiter didn't bring us chopsticks or plates. One of the plates was forgotten about. When the plate was eventually brought to us our waiter dropped it on us. We then tried to cancel the order and they insisted that we take it to go, and then didn't take it off of our bill. When we refused to pay for the plate they took the roll back. Finally when we split the bill two of them were over charged, and we were so desperate to leave that we paid the extra money. The waiters are rude unfriendly and inhospitable. I don't know what Jeremiah was talking about, but I went in there for the first time this afternoon and their sushi was amazing! The staff were very nice, the sushi were really fresh. I ordered the Tuna Dumpling and Nanuto Roll. The Tuna Dumpling was amazing, it has avocado, snow crab, crunch and green tobiko, wrapped with a slice of tuna with eel sauce and some sort of spicy mayo. Now the Nanuto Roll, for a $12 roll, the amount of fish the chef put in was quite decent. I am a really big eater, but I got full from the two items. Really good atmosphere, great list of drinks. This is an obvious attempt to have people continue to come in and believe they are eating at Hapa. Great for a sushi lunch if you're on the hill. They haven't changed much here from when it was Hapa on the Hill - just added a few of their own specialty items. I loved the nasu eggplant! It might be an acquired test, but eggplant is kind of an acquired taste. The fish tasted fresh and I enjoyed everything I had here. read more

We love Hana. The owner/staff are always friendly, we get a table right away, and the prices are good. They have happy hour 3-5 I believe and it's 2 for 1 rolls. The hill definitely needs a sushi place, so I hope they always stay in business. I like to request extra ginger with my brown rice salmon avocado roll (very good here, so is the edamame) and they know well enough to bring out a small bowl full of it. Wow what a big change from when it was hapa!! I mean hapa was good but the new Hana is great!! I did have to wait a little while but it was super busy and even still the sushi came out looking amazing, and for the taste it was out of this world the hana pearl was amazing, the scallops were still on the half shell and their sauce for it complimented it so well without overpowering the scallop. As for the sashimi it was like i was eating at hawaii again. And the godzilla roll was a perfect finish. Thank you chefs for the great experience and hope the restaurant does well. read more

Last night I was looking forward to eating at Happa on the Hill which I have eaten at Happa at other locations and it is one of my favorite sushi places. My maps took me right to it, however when I got there, there was no sign on the building and in marker on a dry erase board hanging in the window said Hana. My friend that I had bragged to how good the sushi is joined me there and we walked in and noticed the same Happa colors but the decorations had been taken down and there were boxes stashed all over the place. Our server (who was incredible by the way) told us that they had gone through a name change but some of the same owners and they could make us most of the Happa menu. We asked when they made the change and we were shocked to here it happened 5 MONTHS ago!? The place is a mess! Our Taro Poke appetizer came out delicious but missing some of the ingredients that were listed on the menu. Then we ordered our sushi and the roll formerly known as the "69" roll served warm came out a minute later and the rest of our sushi took about 20min. When we dug into the roll it was cold and some o the rice was hard like it had been uncovered in the fridge for a day or two. My friend's Kahlua Pork entree also came out very quickly and tasted like pork jerky! I was so embarrassed because I had bragged about how amazing the food was going to be. My Philadelphia came out and the salmon was so dried out and the rice was old I couldn't even swallow it. In the end we were charged for our whole AWFUL experience, we NEVER saw a manager (Our server had to apologize on behalf of the joint) and today I am sicker than I have ever been!! Placed a large order online to be delivered. I had selected the house salad with chicken for 9.50, but later they called and said I needed to pay $4 more for chicken. This isn't what the menu said; the guy insisted, in broken English, rather hard to understand. So I just gave up and declined to pay the extra, and got a handful of lettuce with a couple tomato and cucumber pieces for 9.50. The service was friendly, but slow during an off-time, and the layout of the restaurant could be more open. But none of that really matters... It is simply the best sushi around. Five friends and I went in on a Sunday night. We were going to Cafe Aion but they were closed for some reason. We decided to go to sushi instead. We were trying to catch a show at CU campus that night, so we were in a bit of a hurry. We are all in the industry, so I understand we are the jerks showing up without a reservation and in a hurry. The hostess said it would be 15 minutes before they could seat us. As she is saying that, we were standing right next to an open six top, with no one else waiting. She kind of fumbled around a few minutes then told us to just go ahead and sit down. 15 minutes later someone came and dropped one menu (for six of us). Another 15 minutes goes by and they give us water and asked for our drinks. 4 cocktails and a beer. 32 minutes later they came with a beer and 2 drinks. They said sorry the bar is backed up. It is a pretty small dining room. There were 4 front of house staff on the floor. Another 10 minutes went by and finally came with the other drinks. Then they took our food order. Luckily all we had to do was give them a sushi menu to give to the chefs. I heard one server tell the next table "this is my first week, I can't even pronounce half the menu". Then he laughs uncontrollably like a hyena. There was a table next to us who were going to the same show. Two people who got a good amount of food. The food came to them quite quickly while we waited and waited. Finally the food came which was pretty good. It took quite a while for the server to reemerge to ask for a check. By the time we were done we were 20 minutes late to the show. Like I said, I am in the industry. I know plenty of servers who could run that dining room by themselves without the shit show these four people displayed that evening. Luckily I don't frequent the Hill that much, so I'll probably not be back. There are a lot better sushi places and just places to go in Boulder for way better service. Again the food was good, that's why I gave it 2 stars. The service was that bad. I've never been so disappointed in service in such a long time. Appalled is probably a more appropriate word. Maybe the owners should look at a better hiring practices or training. Just a though. read more
