Came here for my daughters 7th birthday. It came highly recommended by a coworker. She told us they had the traditional seating, and I thought it would be fun to sit there since my daughter loves all things Japanese. When we got there I asked to sit up there and the waitress said it was closed for lunch. No big deal the food was DELICIOUS! So, I have been here multiple times over the past year. Probably at least 15 times. And...well, what can I say? Some rolls are good, others are not and the service is slow. The only complaint I really have about the rolls, is that everytime I order real crab, because I'm gluten free, the crab is Very dry...as if it is from a can. I'm from CO and every time I hope the crab is amazing because we are near the ocean, but it's always the same. Also, since I'm gluten free, I always ask what I can have. Sometimes the servers know, and other times they don't. Which is scary. Finally the service. This place is busy, so a lot of people do enjoy it. Just don't be in a rush if you come in, because they are popular. read more

Me and my husband love coming here, it is our favorite place to go for lunch and date nights. Their lunch special for two rolls and appetizer is more than enough to feed two people. We get the Agedashi tofu every time and it never disappoints. Their salmon skin hand rolls are to die for. All in all, the quality and freshness of their food and sushi is hands down the best in the area. They always give exceptional customer service every time! We will be customers for life! read more

Edit: 10AUG15 we must have hit a bad stretch here. Past two times eating here have been down right disappointing. Service has seem to taken a down turn equipment keeps breaking and the sushi was mediocre at best. We have been seeking out other places to enjoy sushi. We were highly impressed with sushi house. We had reservations and got seated promptly. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. We ordered a few of the specialty rolls and they were all delicious. She recommended the 1000 Island roll which was a refreshing take on modern sushi. I was impressed because i rarely find a decent sushi place that still uses wasabi to "glue" the fish to the rice in Nigiri. And on the nigiri the pieces of fish were HUGE. Ok restaurant. Went with a 14 person group and there were huge delays getting menus, waters, forks, and 20 minute delay for getting the last meal. The women's bathrooms had two stalls, one was out of order and the other had a cracked seat they had literally super glued together and the stalls were so short a 5'6" person could see over the top of them. Great ambiance but some food got spilled and they didn't clean up and I fell because the floor was so slick from salad and dressing and water. Lots of food for the price. read more

I liked the space and decor--I would rate that 4 stars. Nice landscaping is visible through the windows; the green is a pleasant setting. On a Wednesday at 6:30 PM, the place was a bit noisy with the music and chatter at the same time. I think that was because of the many hard surfaces. The restaurant was busy but not packed, so it wasn't just that there was a crowd. The table service and bus service was attentive but not intrusive. This would be fine as a date restaurant, but I imagine Friday and Saturday nights are bustling and even louder. I liked that we weren't rushed out while we were finishing up our hot green tea. The salad my dining companion had looked good (and she said it was fresh and tasty). The miso soup that came with the meal was fine and had plenty of tofu. Her vegetable tempura selection was hot and crispy. The jasmine tea was excellent (Smith Teahouse brand), although the teapot really was too small to share, two on a pot max. However, free hot water refills made it work at the price of a single serving, which was a plus. The Sushi Plate B was a combo of California roll and 9 pieces of nigiri. I though the tuna and salmon was fresh and yummy. The crab and yellowtail I could tell had been frozen as the texture wasn't the best. The tako was tender and tasty, as was the the ebi. Flavor overall was OK, but the salmon and tuna were far and above the others to a noticeable degree. The California roll was good. Not too much wasabi on the nigiri, which was nice. I'd come back here again, and would probably focus on the salmon and tuna sushi choices. I tend to the traditional. The many varieties of house rolls seemed to be of the current trend to being huge and covered in sauces, many spicy, so if you like those, you'll be pleased. The fact that they call this place the "Sushi House" is a misnomer as the sushi here is TERRIBLE! Just about every sushi roll on the menu, both "special" and regular, has a California roll base (fake crab, avocado, and cucumber). The only difference is that the special rolls (AKA the extremely overpriced rolls) have some form of seafood on top. Any time you see this in a "sushi" place, you should run for the hills. I should have listened to my own advice! Our sushi order consisted of two rolls (a special roll with scallops and salmon and a regular Philly roll), a lobster hand roll, and an order of albacore nigiri. The "special" roll was simply a Cali roll with tiny pieces of scallops in it and salmon on top. It mine as well have been called the fake crab roll as that is what made up 99% of the filling. The salmon on top was probably the best part and even then it didn't taste very fresh (I'm thinking it's from a frozen piece of low quality salmon?!). The Philly roll was awful. It was 75% cream cheese, with a little cucumber and odd-tasting low quality smoked salmon mixed in. Unfortunately it wasn't rolled tight enough so it fell apart as soon as you touched it. I probably should have just sent it back. The lobster hand roll was 90% rice with little pieces of fried lobster on top. I'm not convinced the lumps of fried lobster were actually lobster as it tasted really fishy and nothing like lobster should. The albacore nigiri was definitely the best thing we were served and even then it was just okay. I should mention that our service wasn't very good despite the fact that the place wasn't busy. I think we waited between 20-25 minutes for our food... which is way too long considering what we ordered and the lack of customers. Here's the thing... if you're going to serve crappy sushi, at least adjust your prices to reflect that. This place is charging the same amount of money for their "fake sushi" rolls as other places are for quality ingredient-filled rolls. For the sushi order above plus a chicken yakisoba and two drinks, the bill came to around $47. I can't say I've ever left a place more disappointed upon knowing I paid around $50 for a truly despicable meal. Oh, and the best part of all this?! About five minutes after we left this place my side started to tingle. Then the palms of my hands, bottoms of my feet, and face started to itch. Yes, that's right, I had an allergic reaction to something I ate. Now, I have NO known allergies and I eat sushi all the time... my guess is I had an adverse reaction to a preservative in either the fake crab or the low-quality smoked salmon. If that isn't a very clear sign to never return, I don't know what is! read more

By far the best sushi in Olympia. The service staff can be bad, but the two chefs know what they are doing. Some people would rather have good service in a restaurant, but some would rather have good food. To me, it is unbelievable that this place has so many bad reviews. Olympia, this is why we have so few good restaurants, we are not smart enough to recognize what actually makes a good restaurant, and then ignore the few that are actually good. LIKE OMG!!!! They didn't have my Philly roll ready the exact moment I walked in, I had to wait 20 minutes for it! At Bayview they had it all premade when I walk in, in fact they made it yesterday in anticipation of my arrival! 1/5 for you Sushi House!!!!!!! Also!! Not good. The maguro might have been ok had there not been so much wasabi between it and the rice that I wanted to die. The yellowtail did not resemble any yellowtail I'd ever seen (nor did it taste like it), I even asked the waitress to make sure that was what it was. Fish wasn't fresh. Spicy tuna roll was strangely salty. And then there were the rats. Yes, rats. The restaurant apparently has roof rats, which run from the roof down the drainage pipe and along the window ledges. Had dinner here on a Friday night. Made a reservation for 6:30pm and was sat promptly at that time. The place filled up around 7 and people were waiting for tables. The service was so-so. Kind of slow, hard to get a refill even though our server walked past us a thousand times. The food was pretty good though. Creative rolls and they are big! I got one specialty roll and a cone roll. Plenty of food for me! We also got a tempura avocado app that was so yummy! I would recommend this place, as long as you're not a demanding and needy person! This visit was a huge disappointment. We've here before so we know what the "portion" size should be. Today's visit will be the last. We ordered a "Large" Sashimi Platter. What came out looked like a small platter with pieces cut into 3. Every thing about this $60 platter screamed small. We asked our server twice if the size of the platter was correct and she came back to confirm that it was. Don't come here if you have high expectations or wish to be full. First time eating here. The food was really good. But the service was below average, granted they were busy but our waitress gave us no attention. She took our order, brought us food, bussed our table and gave us our ticket. I drank all my water before we even ordered and made sure to make it obvious I needed more water. After we got food she said she would get us more water but never once brought us more water. After the meal we decided we wanted to get dessert. I'm not from Washington but I ate here this past weekend while on a trip. It's a cute place and we sat on the tables that appear like you're sitting on the ground, but it's just like sitting in a chair with your legs and feet dangling below! I ordered an agedashi tofu for an appetizer that got lost amongst all the other orders so I never got it, but we were never charged for it on our bill at the end and I was really full anyways! I ordered the chirashi donburi, which is an assortment of sashimi fish on sushi rice. We also ordered the Choya plum wine with our dinner. The one thing that bothered me a little was that when we were ordering nigiri sushi, majority of the ones we wanted were out, so we were picking our 4th and 5th choices for sushi. It seemed a little odd that it wasn't brought to our attention in the beginning that they were sold out of a lot of items. But overall, I thought that the dining experience was good and the quality of the food we were brought was good also. read more

Olympia's best sushi restaurant, without a doubt. First the bad news: one of the sushi chefs is a homicidal, demon-possessed maniac who will intermittently try to kill you with wasabi. You can't predict which ones or when, but some nights about a third of the sushi rolls you order will contain so much spicy green death you'd best hope the other ingredients are cheap, 'cause you sure won't be tasting them. It's not limited to the sushi; the sunomono (listed on the menu as "Snomono" and if you try to order it by the *actual* name, the waitresses will correct you - "snow mo' no"!) is also Russian roulette wasabi doom. Secondly, all the waiters are apparenly robots kept in pods in the basement and rebooted each night. There's no other way to explain waiting tables in a sushi restaurant for months without ever learning about sushi. If you order anything, you must refer to it by exactly the name on the menu - don't pronounce is correctly if it's spelled wrong (snow mo' no!), don't use the Japanese name for a dish listed in English (it's seaweed salad, not wakame) or the English name for a Japanese one (it's kanpyo roll, not gourd pickle roll). If you request a roll that isn't on the menu, expect to receive whatever's on the menu that sounds most like what you tried to order. Not a big deal, but kind of weird. Anyway, if you can survive the wasabi and killer robots, you will be treated to rice of excellent texture, fresh ingredients, creative house specialties, good solid roll assembly, crisp tempura, wakame (er, I mean seaweed salad of course don't laser me nice robot) with lots of sesame oil and generally delicious food. I recommend something from their specials whiteboard; they're usually tasty and kinda fun. And what's a little SPICY ROBOT GREEN DOOM when tasty sushi is on the line?! Don't you feel lucky? Of course you do. Go eat some sushi! read more

"Supposed" because after taking our order for an appetizer of gyoza, we didn't see her for another 20 minutes. I just went tonight with a friend and I'm remarkably impressed. I was kind of sad about the sushi findings in the local area, preferring often to go up to Seattle to have sushi once in a blue moon. Well, no longer! The little place I go to up there is still better, but Sushi House has more than won my heart. The waitresses were very good, the food was plated beautifully, and the sushi was GOOD. Not "ok", not "not bad", but very much good. The fish was fresh, the combinations in the special rolls were delicious, everything was really terrific and I couldn't be more pleased! My friend got the Dynamite Roll which was different from others I've tried but really delicious all the time. I got the Sushi House Roll and the Hawaiian Roll (it has real crab in it and it was fantastic!). We were both very happy with our sushi and can't wait to go back. read more
