My wife and I moved from Seattle to Olympia about a year ago and the one thing we were desperately missing was good Sushi. We tried all the recommended places and were sorely disappointed and sad that we wouldn't have access to good sushi anymore. Then one day we stumbled upon this joint and were blown away. I drive 40 mins to visit this place with my son. There is another sushi place close to this one. But they do not compare at all when it comes to service. I love that they have so many diff options for sushi! The lunch special is super good! They always have Uni which every sushi place doesn't offer. So that keeps me coming back. I have come in during the weekend rush and I've waited. Usually I don't like to wait but I feel like they do an awesome job of moving things along and cleaning up. So that you don't wait forever. The Mexican roll is delicious so is the fish cheek. They have lots of diff options for sake. And I think a good selection of kids meals and even carry chocolate milk . I've gotten a few diff servers and they are always nice, prompt, and just always on top of it. I use to wait tables in a sushi place. So I feel for them when it gets busy. But they do an EXCELLENT-JOB. So it is beyond worth it for me to drive out to visit. The other sushi place in town every time I go they are always so rude. I haven't had that here. This is my go to place for sushi in olympia. It is hidden off of black lake blvd. have to go west after you exit hwy 101. You would not expect to see a sushi house there. But if you can find it, check it out. Has some great deals on rolls during lunch and the bento box lunch combo is generous. This is the highest quality sushi in Thurston county so I keep going here but I seem to have selective amnesia at how bad the service is. Dinner service is better than lunch but it's still pretty slow and you have to ask for refill on your water every time. I usually get my appetizer about 2 minutes before the main course and 45 minutes after I order it. Drinks are served around the same time. I don't think I have unrealistic expectations about service but there seems to be no effort at this restaurant. If you do go there, they've got something for everyone. The spicy chicken is high quality meat, the crunch roll is good if it's your first sushi experience and uneasy about raw fish and the sashimi is good quality and the right temperature. If you're used to Seattle grade sushi and are expecting that, you're sure to be disappointed but if you want decent sushi in a Olympia and you've got extra time on your hands, it's worth a try, read more

Our favorite and only place for sushi. We try other sushi places but always find ourselves returning. I would expect exceptional sushi being on the west coast and its influence of access to fret seafood. Overall they have fresh sushi. Service has been lacking at times but they have improved. I look for attention to detail like service, quality of food filling waters without having to ask and timing of delivery of food. This has improved with time. We have ordered huge platters of sushi for parties and our for couples date night and I give them an A- So if you are looking for consistent great tasting food and a decent ambiance it's a great place to go. Just moved here from California two months ago. And I am pretty much a sushi lover, will have sushi once two weeks, really love tasty fresh sushi. After all I heard from the reviews saying this is "the best sushi'" in Olympia, I was looking forward to try this place out. But at the end, I was a little upset about my experience in this place. They serve pretty traditional sushi. No surprise at all. The food quality is just ok, but the price compare to other sushi places is high. For that charge I would demand a higher food quality. Even a mall sushi is doing better than this place. Went to sushi rocks last week, the price is really cheap there, but the food quality is bit higher than sushi house. We have been eating dinner at the Sushi House for quite a few years now -- usually go at least once a month, and have never been disappointed in the quality of the fish. The best fresh fish we have found in Olympia. The rolls are always great, and the spicy tuna salad is the BEST. The only downside is that the Sushi House is so delicious that sometimes there is a wait to get into the restaurant, however, it's totally worth it! I order to go quite often, and it's helpful to call ahead so the sushi is ready and waiting when you pick it up. Mr. Kim, the owner, is delightful and willing to chat with you if you sit at the sushi bar. We have celebrated many birthday's here, and had many dinners throughout the years. Never disappointed. We ate lunch here for the first time a few weeks ago, and their lunch bento box special was great too -- so much food that I had to take some home! If you are looking for sushi in Olympia, this is definitely the best sushi place I've found (and I've tried all of them!). read more

This is probably one of the best sushi place in Olympia. The staff were friendly and responsive. The salmon was fresh. Only downside is when this place is busy they tend to forget my order. For the past 3 years I been looking for a good sushi place that was comparable to trappers in Puyallup! I must say the sushi is very good here. Everything is fresh! Prices are fair. We ordered the crunch roll, rockstar, shrimp2on, and spider roll. All was very good! Spicy chicken teriyaki came with miso and salad. Rice potion was way small. I live down along Black Lake and pass Sushi House every time I go into downtown, go to work, drive up to Seattle...so needless to say I've eaten here on far too many occasions! The freshness of the seafood is always very good. Shame they seem to focus mostly on cooked rolls but you can always enjoy the quality fish in a simple maki roll or sashimi, and the cooked rolls probably make this a good option for sushi newbies. I feel like the more I eat here though, the less Sushi House delivers on overall value despite the quality fish. I don't know if prices are slowly creeping up or what, but it seems like I can never get away from here for under $20/person--even for a small carry-out w/o beverages or extras like the seaweed salad (which again, is good!). Last night my order for two basic rolls and a small sashimi ran me $35! For a sit-down experience the atmosphere is nice, but again does not warrant the price. 2 people getting comfortably (not overly) full on sushi and splitting an app, with one beer, can easily set you back $60+. This just seems high compared not only to other places in Olympia, but to some of the best places in Seattle, where the sushi is so fresh it literally disintegrates in your mouth, and even at peak hours I've never spent over $50 between two people. Happy hours in Seattle can cut that bill in half and still deliver an equal or better quality sushi in a better ambiance. Again, for Olympia Sushi House delivers a consistently high quality dish with good ingredients. The staff can sometimes be friendly, sometimes not. The price point just seems to be missing the mark. The newer option, Aya Sushi, just up the road tucked in near Mud Bay Coffee and the Walgreens is quickly becoming my favorite for atmosphere, friendly staff/chefs, and quality/size of portions. read more

Being new to the area this is the third sushi restaurant I've tried with great ratings on Yelp, and it stands out as the best of the three. My fiancée and I ordered three rolls to share, and ended up trying the deep fried Twinkie for dessert. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful. One roll had raw tuna and salmon draped over the top and it melted like butter in my mouth. The service was friendly, the prices were reasonable, the presentation was stunning, and the atmosphere was just right. If I returned again I would request one of the rear tables where you can sit directly on the floor, as it looked like a unique dining experience. Sushi House has a good selection of rolls and pieces, OK service and a nice atmosphere - modern and warm with lots of wood. It's about on-par with sushi places in larger cities and definitely a cut above the other sushi available in the Olympia area. My only complaint is that some of the rolls are so big that you can't eat a piece in one bite. Consequently the whole thing falls apart with rice spilling across your plate and you end up feeling like an impossibly gauche gaijin. Went here for dinner once. The place was packed. We finally got a seat and waited for service. The service was not that great. Very slow, forgot to come and check on us. After I ordered our food the wait was long, but they only had 2 sushi preppers. Finally our food came and my Naguri was huge. My wife ordered the soft crab roll and that too was very good. I would say one of the best in town. Overall a ok experience. I would say they need to work on the service though. We wanted to get a couple of other rolls and Naguri and I had to get another server to take my order. Then we waited so long we weren't sure they even put the order in. But it finally came.
