We had a great girls night at Sushi Jip. The service was good. You can press a button on the outside tables to flag your server, and you can use a dry erase marker to check which sushi rolls you want on the menu. I think the quality of the sushi was fine. It was not the best sushi I've had in the area, but overall, it was decent. The veggie tempura and fried rice with chicken were very good. I really like the pretty display of the sushi rolls with the garnishes and decorative tree. We left very full and happy with our meal. read more

I'm just gonna say it- this is probably the best chirashi I've had in either of dc or va in the recent past. The pieces of sashimi were incredibly fresh and there was a huge assortment of variety (really hate the ones where they just give you salmon and tuna and charge you an arm for it)- over 14 to be exact. And they were thickkkk slices so not cheaping out on the ingredients. They also include a mixed rice under that has carrots, edamame, fish roe, and pickled radish, which also makes it fun and way more flavorful than your typical chirashi. And then another added touch is that they give you a packet of seaweed if you wanna wrap the rice and sashimi together for another change in combo/texture (and put that seaweed in a small pouch so it doesn't get soggy being in there- very clever). The tempura was also really good. There's onion, broccoli, sweet potato, squash, kabocha squash + 2 pieces of shrimp. I arrived early for my pick up and the person who greeted me (I think is one of the owners) was not only so nice to me but gave me candy since I had to wait a bit for the food. The inside of the restaurant is very clean and there is also an outdoor patio area to enjoy the weather if you'd like. Of the sushi/sashimi places in Clarendon, I'd say this place's quality of food and price is the top. read more

Wanted to get some sushi to go and saw good reviews on this restaurant and decided to give it a try. I was so glad I did! Even the picture doesn't do it enough justice, when I opened this meal I was genuinely elated by how good everything looked. Even better was that it tasted phenomenal. Everything was so fresh, you can just tell by the color of the fish. I can't remember the rolls I had but the flavor was really great and the portions were huge. I was not expecting it. This is an unassuming corner location just a little off Clarendon, a newish sushi place replacing the previous Japanese restaurant. It's not an overly extensive menu as it focuses on sushi and sashimi with also a section for ramen and chaohan. The shouyu ramen was a light and flavorful broth with grilled (didn't expect that but it worked) chashu and a perfectly done ajitama (soft boiled egg), and the maki sushi (California, salmon and avocado, and tuna avocado) were fresh and artfully served on a marble slate topped by a mini bonsai. Service is quick with a button to call the waitstaff, and despite closing at 9:30, they allowed us to stay a bit later on a Tuesday evening. Based on the ambiance, it seemed that its mainstay is more the weekday work lunches, but for a decent sushi or ramen meal, Sushi Jip will do the trick. read more

Easily and genuinely the best nigiri I've had in the DMV. The fish selection was top notch for the nigiri sets and they had very generous portions of fish. The fatty tuna was delicious and the shari was well-seasoned. Many places in this area have very little flavor in the shari, not here. Service was easy and relaxed with the button call system. The holiday roll was interesting and sneakily sweet -- the red and green masago is fun touch! Spicy tuna and eel are always staples and classics. I second every person that said that this is the best sushi they've had in the area. Stopped by around 5/5:30 on a Saturday and was immediately sat (although the place filled up a fair bit by 6pm). We had a great dinner here tonight! For newcomers or long-time fans of the prior restaurant here, I recommend giving Sushi Jip a try. We live in the neighborhood and were regulars of Endo Sushi (the restaurant in this space before the owner retired). We were quite sad to see Endo go! This is our second time to Sushi Jip and enjoyed it quite a bit. The waiter was very friendly and good. The opening salad and soup were tasty. Our salmon avocado roll was fresh and well made. It came out quickly. My wife had bulgogi and fried rice. Terrific flavor and tender meat. Large helping, and she took the extra home. I had the shrimp hibachi--not my usual order but felt right. Generous serving of shrimp, vegetables, and fried rice. Great flavor and beautiful presentation. We talked about missing the homey experience of Endo, where we ate dozens of times over the last few years. But things change, and I'm very glad Sushi Jip is here as a local restaurant with a dedicated chef/owner rather than an expensive chain coffee shop or something. On the way out, my wife asked how to pronounce "Jip" (it's close to "jeep"). In the process, we got to meet the owner Young and learn that Jip both means "home" and is his family name. I can't say enough how much I love this place. Julia who runs the front and Young the chef always treat me like family. And the sushi is really fantastic - definitely the best around. Try the spicy tuna crispy rice for a treat! Seriously, Julia and Young always go out of their way to make me feel welcome and now I'll never go to another local sushi place.
