    Chicken Katsu Curry Rice
    Tammy J.C. D.

Food was great! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Went in on a Friday at noon for an office lunch and the place wasn't very busy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There was only one sushi chef so we did have to wait a bit for all the orders that you'd expect from a large group (11). I'm not a big sushi fan but my Chicken Katsu Curry was delicious. Everyone's food came out perfect, looked great, and received rave reviews. Server was on top of things and steered us in the right direction with the man options offered at lunch. Go check it out, you won't be disappointed!

We came here for dinner on a Friday and it was pretty empty. We ordered the sushi sashimi set and the small set which included udon, tonkatsu, inari, salad. Most of the fish were good. Salmon was the best, but I did eat a fishy piece. It's a hit or miss I guess. The rice didn't have that nice fluffy texture or rice vinegar flavor most other sushi restaurants have. The udon soup was nice and light. The tonkatsu was probably the best part. It was battered and fried perfectly without being oily. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The service was good and ambiance is casual.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

My husband and I were impressed with the amazing food! This place is what you'd expect from an izakaya, minus the yakitori: a great selection of beer and food at a fair and affordable price! We went for lunch on a Sunday but it was pretty empty, so service was quick and the staff was friendly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was nothing fancy, but the furniture was old (table and high chair were sticky), although I did appreciate some of the decor hanging on the walls.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We've already decided we'd come back! They also validate for free parking in the garage.

Cheap sushi!! It won't be the most mind blowing sushi but if you're looking to satisfy a craving, this is the place to go. Sushi is $1.50 a piece and you fill out a paper menu of what sushi you want and how many pieces! You can also pick from their menu and predetermined sets. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The people who work here are extremely nice and the place is decorated quite homey.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This is a great cheap place for japanese food.

My husband and I have been visiting Takohachi for the past couple of years, and it's a consistently lovely and relaxing spot to enjoy genuinely satisfying Japanese food. While we often choose the ramen, which is always excellent, I recently had the bento set again--one of my favorites on the menu that offers great variety. The service is always dependable and superb. There is a kind gentleman who usually serves us and makes the dining experience pleasant and attentive every time.

I've come here twice and at most currently it's about average for me, nothing bad and considering the price I paid for a whole meal and some change to take away for under $30 (which now a days feels like a steal)! There are multiple menus but I went for nigiri pieces, their small curry udon special, and croquettes. With the curry udon special it came with udon, curry, and a salad. The food was average - but I will say for the price getting sushi pieces for $1.50 is honestly unbeatable. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I do love how cute the menus are with their drawings![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If their food quality increases this spot will definitely end up more popular :) Service is good- every time I've come here it's always been pretty casual, quiet, and not busy at all! [[HIGHLIGHT]]They did upgrade their interior recently to a new design but still feels like a pretty hole in the wall, mom/pop shop at times.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Food: 10/10 Service: 10/10 Ambiance: 10/10 First off I love sushi and one thing about Arlington, VA is that they have a lot of good sushi options. This place is in my top 10 when it comes to sushi. We started off with dumplings and tempura appetizers. The dumplings had great flavor and the soy sauce based sauce complimented it very well. The tempura was light and airy. Sometimes with fried foods you get that mouth feel of grease. But that wasn't the case for this. In the tempura appetizer you get: shrimp and an assortment of vegetables that are tempura fried. All is delicious and nothing was too heavy. My friend got the tonkatsu pork. She enjoyed it very much. I other hand got sushi. The sushi was very fresh and well prepared. I like that they have an assortment of regular rolls and signature rolls to choose from. Lastly we rounded off our dinner with dango!!! It was light, chewy and warm. Very delicious and not overly sweet. It also paired nicely with the vanilla ice cream!

Our waitress was awesome, and I really appreciate her recommendations. Our food was very good-- especially the meat wrapped scallions. I would not say this is the best restaurant on my vacation, but it was a good experience and I would go back and try other dishes. That's definitely a win.

This sushi is so delicious - and one of my favorite things is that the portion sizes are wonderful for to-go orders (check out my photos)! Everything tasted flavorful and fresh. Although I've only ordered to-go, the ambiance of the interior is cute and clean, and at some point I'm sure I will dine in. I've also never had an issue with service, at least for take out orders. Can't wait to keep ordering sushi from here!

I was having serious withdrawals from eating delicious Japanese food often in Hawaii and needed a fix. Takohachi has been on my radar for ages so figured I'd try an order to go of the Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura dish with udon noodles. It was very good, not the best I've had, but hit the spot. Service was so nice when I arrived, she actually asked me how my day was going so far with a kind smile. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was so thrown off because customer service these days are usually so cold and automated, I felt sad that it was a weekday and the restaurant was totally empty.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is really cute and cozy and it's unexpectedly very large inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Next time I look forward to trying the Japanese curry rice dish!

Seaweed salad and hot green tea

To start the service is amazing. They are so kind and welcoming. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The environment is so cute, it's lower lighting but still can see things very well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And the food is absolutely amazing, priced great and tastes great too. It's right below an apartment building and parking tickets are validated. Absolutely love this place. And to add really quick food service.

Micro Delivery Review - ordered food through Uber Eats. The packaging was fine on the outside. I really enjoyed the sushi and I liked that it came with a good portion of wasabi, but I will say I was disappointed that my tempura sauce had leaked before I even had the chance to use it, it had soaked into the vegetables, unsure if this was the restaurant or Uber eats fault. I did want to leave this review though because I actually enjoyed the food and I enjoyed the price for the fish to rice rice ratio.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! I've been coming here for lunch at work and I don't think I'll be going anywhere else for a while. Not only is the price fair, the food's genuinely so good!! I've been missing actually good, authentic Japanese food since I visited Japan a year ago, and Takohachi fills the spot. I've ordered several different dishes, Temaki, sushi, tempura, bento boxes and their Japanese curry, I haven't been disappointed yet. The service is fast, and the workers are very polite. Please support this restaurant, it's a hidden gem :)

I was surprised that their sushi wasn't fresh, it had the consistency of being refrigerated, exposed to the air for a long time.

Ask the Community - Takohachi Japanese Restaurant

Do they still do the $1 sushi menu? I thought they had increased prices a bit with inflation but can't find the details on their FB.

They have increased the price of the nigiri to $1.50 from $1. I think this happened about a year ago.

    Have they reopened yet?

They are now open! Came in today at 12:30 & they said we were their first customers.

Are they open now? The yelp looks updated with open time!

Just called them today (10/22) and they said they're waiting for a permit and may open "in a few weeks".

Hello Takohachi! Do you have a grand opening date for the new location?

Drove by today --still closed as of Oct 1.

Is the new location open yet?

Just popped by today (9/16), doesn't look like it's open yet.

How do you order the $1 nigiri for delivery? I don't see it on the delivery menu. TIA :)

It has to be phone order.

I've actually done the math totaling up how much we ate and what it would've been al le carte and it totaled to $400-500 total for two people so this is well worth it. The items I would highly recommend is everything off their wagyu tier, the wagyu fried rice, and their specialty rolls. Don't forget to end the meal off with some dessert as well. I thoroughly enjoyed the matcha crepe cake. This place is very modern and with an amazing staff that is super attentive. Instead of actually greeting me, and asking me to give them a moment, she looks up at me (not even the staff member on the phone) and raises her finger at me??? The audacity of that was plenty of fuel for the one star. As if that weren't enough, when the associate that was on the phone was done, her colleague looks at me and asked what I "needed"...I chose to tell her I was there to dine, again, standing there alone, and her response was, "I'm not supposed to automatically know that." I cut mine before eating. At $6, they are pretty decent value. Lunch Special Salad - 8/10 I loved the carrot miso vinagraitte on the iceberg lettuce. The only thing that would have made it better would be a nice crunch (toasted sesame seeds/wonton crisps) Shrimp Tempura Roll - 7.5/10 This is an elevated tempura roll with orange roe and eel sauce. Very filling as far as sushi rolls go. Salmon/Mango/Avocado Roll - 5/10 The rice layer on this roll was paper thin and the salmon tasted flat and flavorless, instead of that rich, buttery taste that high quality fresh salmon should have. On this visit, I noticed that the fillings are generous here but the rice is sparse/underseasoned on vinegar. I'd love to better appreciate the fine balance of the ingredients. Overall though, I enjoyed my meal. It is a strong spot and one that I would return to.

First off, I do think everyone should try Japanese BBQ at least once just to experience the difference for themselves. We got the Premium AYCE option. It's advertised around $45, but after tax, drinks, and everything else, it definitely ends up being more expensive than that. We also ordered the lychee sake, which was really good and probably one of my favorite parts of the meal. One thing I really liked was the atmosphere. The restaurant has a nice, intimate feel because a lot of the tables and booths are separated, so it feels more private than your typical BBQ spot. The lighting also adds to the vibe and makes it feel cozy without being too dark. We don't eat pork, so we mostly focused on the beef options. Personally, when I'm doing all-you-can-eat, I don't really want to fill up on chicken or seafood. My biggest takeaway is that while there are a ton of different marinades and menu options, a lot of the beef cuts ended up tasting pretty similar to me. The differences felt more like thickness or texture rather than completely different flavors. Maybe I'm not cultured enough in Japanese BBQ to appreciate all the nuances, but that's honestly how it came across to me. At the end of the day, I think I still prefer Korean BBQ. For me, the overall experience isn't different enough to justify paying significantly more. I'd probably rather save $20 and go get KBBQ instead. One thing worth mentioning is that both of us felt pretty sick afterward. mostly nauseous and overly full. To be clear, I don't think there was anything wrong with the food. We probably just overdid it, which is easy to do at an AYCE spot. The standout part of the experience was definitely the service. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and welcoming throughout the meal. Honestly, the customer service is the main reason I'd consider coming back. Also, sorry for the lack of photos. I was way too hungry and focused on eating to remember to take any. Overall: good experience, great service, tasty drinks, nice ambiance, but I personally still prefer KBBQ.

Have tried Izakaya Nana, Genki Izakaya and Super Kyuramen and been to Izakayas in Tokyo and Kyoto…read more I love that so many Izakayas have opened in the NoVA area. The bad thing about Genki Izakaya is how crowded it can be. I'm not sure I would show up without reservations again. I've been there 3 times, the first time we didn't have a reservation and the hostess seemed very hesitant to add us to the wait list. She said the waitlist was very long. We decided not to wait. The second time we also didn't have a reservation and the hostess again seemed very hesitant to add us to the wait list. This time we did wait and were quoted 1.5 hours and it actually took about an hour. Not as bad as quoted but still busy! Third time we finally had a reservation and it still took us 20 mins to get seated as they did not have a table ready for us. To be honest the restaurant itself seems too small, they probably could be twice as big. The reason is the food at Genki Izakaya is in my opinion the best of the 3 Izakayas in the area. The Yakitori is good, hot and reasonably priced although I wish they would let you customize the $20 Yakitori Platter. I tried the A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Hot Stone and was surprised that they cook it for you instead of you cooking it yourself on the hot stone. The waiter overcooked 2 pieces of the Wagyu which is annoying when it is so expensive but overall it tasted great. I like their Tonkotsu Ramen, it broth tastes great and I've had ramen all over this area, in New York City, LA area, Tokyo and Kyoto. It isn't the best I've ever tasted but it is really good especially for this area. Once seated the service is good and the food comes out quickly and everything we've had has tasted great. The only problem is how crowded it can be because its so popular! Only bad thing for us is it isn't too close about a 45 min drive but worthwhile - definitely try it if you like Izakayas and Japanese food.
