I always come here when I want a quick, healthy meal. I can rely on this place for consistently good, fresh sushi. That includes both rolls and actual sashimi. Prices are also very good for its quality. I usually like to grab whatever pre-made stuff is in the refrigerated area. However, if I wanted to order something special, it doesn't take them very long. read more

Update 9/9/17. OK I decided to update my review, from 5 stars to 1 star, just super disappointed, I've been coming to this place for many years and then today, to my shock and dismay, THEY CHANGED THEIR WHOLE MENU!!!! Who does that?! ALL the rolls that were unique and delicious, all that separated them from the pack, suddenly gone. I tried to reason with chef, I asked to make Crazy Monkey and Salmon Rainbow, for higher price, and he flat out refused, looked me right in the eyes and said: please order from our new menu. The only roll with Salmon is 49ers. Actually, I drove from a different city for this particular stuff, not the stuff everybody else has. And by completely changing you menu you have betrayed my trust and I will never come again. Any restaurant will accommodate your needs, like my need for imitation crab to be replaced with something else, but the guy just didn't care. I was in the process of ordering many other things, and because he completely refused to be reasonable, I decided to up and leave. Are they under a new management?.. So disappointed. 9/1/2016 We LOVE it!!! Do you like affordable? Do you like generous? Do you like nice quality? What about delicious and fresh? Then come here! We come here often because the price that just can't be beat in the whole Bay Area or maybe even California alltogether. Very fresh sushi - their Eel is amazing. SO FRESH. When they bring it, it's still warm. Warm, delicious, and melts in your mouth. So many places make it wrong, but Sushi King does it just right! Love their Unagi roll and also Salmon Rainbow roll. This place is never packed or super busy. Service is great. I never get angry or irritated by waiting here. Only thing is the rolls are super messy. I usually like to post pictures up of my food but the rolls here were not worth posting up. My rainbow roll, spicy scallop, etc. were all broke and falling into pieces. A Japanese meal doesn't always have to be an expensive dine-in experience! If you live relatively close to this place, take-out sushi is a great idea. For about the same price of a fully loaded Togo's combo, you can instead have a Chirashi Bowl or my favorite, Hamachi Don and some wakame salad!! Prices are great, and the food is good. read more

This is a great place - great rolls, great service and great prices. Only reason it doesn't get five stars is there is no higher-end sushi like Uni, Toro or Ankimo, but that is a small downside compared to the fast and inexpesive nature. They do have one of the best California Rolls I've ever had, and this is saying a lot since I don't typically like them. This is a nice "hole-in-the-wall" place for a quick sit-down or take out. A hole-in-the wall in the Marketplace, they made the best fresh sushi. Most sushi places might cater to the saki crowd, and tend to overdo the salt. I'm not a huge fan of saki, and I like to taste food more than the salt. Sushi King chefs are talented, efficient, and flexible. Other places, chefs have a big ego, and refuse to make a custom roll, but Sushi King is accommodates special requests. It took me a moment to appreciate the atmosphere, which is of course, a food court, but uber casual is actually more relaxing- unlike Sushi House, on the other end of Park St, which has a nice beach front view-I don't have to wait a long time in a tiny crowded waiting area, or listen to drunk people's insipid conversations. read more

I ordered 2 rolls for lunch today, salmon roll and hegihama roll for 12$. I wasn't very happy with what I had ordered. They gave me very little fish and ton of rice. I couldn't even finish the the two rolls. I think the price that they have for their rolls are fair and decent but def not cheap as discussed on yelp. I probably would not go here again. read more

Just finished lunch here because it was the only sushi place we could find open for lunch on a Sunday. Had unagi roll, something with a topped with a spicy tempura mix, and tuna and salmon sashimi. The rolls were fine, nothing too special. Same with sashimi- I've had much fresher- salmon was chewy. Service unfriendly, very slow and inattentive. If any time other than Sunday lunch, head to yellow fin instead- so much better. read more

Literally just a 2-minute walk away from where I work, I go here every week & have tried pretty much every to-go item on their menu...and everything's delicious! I've never been kept waiting, and I often end up here in the middle of the lunch hour rush. The staff are friendly, it's not expensive, and it's some of the best suhi take-out in town. I've gone back recently with East End Pizza Co. and very happy with Sushi King. The portions are great, prices are fair and the rolls are tasty. My 3 year old usually eats CA rolls and he downed 5 pieces of theirs which is a good sign. I tried the Island roll and it was very good. read more

This place is just okay. Alameda Island Roll was a little odd (sour?). but the prices seemed to be $2-3 less than most places. I would stick to the traditional rolls (rainbow, etc) and only come if I was in the area. Also, this place is Cantonese. Geta in Oakland is way better and at least half the staff is Japanese. read more

I dined here today with some friends, and it's very mediocre. I'd give this place a C+. The staff are nice, place needs a bit of updating, the price is good, but the sashimi...well...it was a very generous size per piece...and I think that's the problem. Each piece was 1.5 centimeters too thick...and it made it linger in my mouth, because I had to chew for a longer period of time, this made eating sashimi a lot less enjoyable. But again, the price is right. 12 very very 1.5 centimeter thick sashimi pieces for only $16.95. We also had the rainbow roll, bonzai roll and a pizza roll...which was interesting...not a favorite though. I felt like I was eating a small pizza with rice on it. Maybe that was what they were going for; fusion not at its best. The rolls were also not wrapped well. It was very loose. read more

Not bad for cheap sushi. They give you good slices of fish, although some of them didn't look the freshest through the glass shelf. They were very pleasant and attentive. Sushi King is my favorite sushi place in the bay area. You get generous portions of amazing sushi for a very reasonable price. My favorites are their Salmon roll, their Hawaii roll, and the Alameda Island roll. I live in San Francisco and actually drive over to Sushi King once or twice a month to get my fix. If you told me there was a good sushi place in a shopping center in Alameda I would have said "no thanks, not worth the drive" but now it's my golden standard for best quality/price ratio. read more

Really good sushi for a great price ! I love sushi & this place taste better than most sushi bars that are over priced. The chefs here don't over power the flavor of the sushi by putting to much sauce . It seems a lot of places do that. They put the perfect amount ! First off, they over charged me by $10 which luckily, I caught and they voided. They gave us food in to-go boxes even though we were clearly sitting there but that was something we could brush off. Then, they made the wrong sushi, we pointed it out, and they corrected. But, to top everything, they gave us a cherry blossom roll that was clearly not made fresh but was one of the pre-made ones like those sitting in the fridge upfront. If we wanted pre-made sushi, we would've bought that or gone to Safeway and bought it there. Completely disappointed with the service and the rice on the sushi was very dry. They now have added some more to their menu!!!!!! They added cold tofu, soba noodle salad, shrimp papaya salad, and tuna tataki!!! I haven't had the chance to try the tuna tataki yet, but the rest are very delicious! I personally don't like papaya, but they have this special sauce for the shrimp papaya salad which made it really tasty. I never thought that I would actually like something like that. Inari, avocado roll, edamame, veggie roll. The inari are fabulous - huge and sweet and warm. The avocado rolls are normal and the edamame is good, I like that it's not covered with salt like a lot of places. The veggie rolls is OK, I ordered it once and the carrot or something was a little off tasting. I haven't gotten it since then. I've also brought home an order and found one of the rolls missing. I love the super dynamite roll, Y2K roll, pink dragon roll and last but not the swamp roll. My favorite part of sushi king is that it doesnt close for lunch time like most sushi joints.
