$23 gets you: - tiny seaweed salad - sashimi (2 slices of salmon, 2 toro, 2 ika) - unagi don nothing special... the unagi pieces were sliced super thin and drowning in the sauce... not very balanced. ika was ice cold. toro and salmon were decent. slow service. i was sitting at the bar and had to listen to the staff gossip (in cantonese) while they took care of all the take-out orders before they took care of ours. even the to-go orders after we ordered were filled before ours. yes, it's cheaper than many other japanese restaurants, but there are other alternatives on the island like yojimbo that are priced similarly, tastier, and with double the amount of food. not impressed. left still feeling hungry. boo. read more

I LOVE this place! A friend and I found it when going to a chicken wing place nearby. I grabbed a menu, was thrilled to find out they deliver, and then went there a week later. I couldn't have been happier. They have two things that are difficult to find at sushi places; hamachi kama and poke salad. The hamachi kama was delicious! Perfectly cooked and just salty enough. The poke seems to vary. I'm a huge poke fan and while the seaweed is always perfectly seasoned sometimes the fish is too stringy. It's almost like they used the fish that wasn't good enough for sashimi or nigiri for the salad. Most of the time though it's wonderful. The nigiri has always been fresh. The seafood dumplings and sauce are wonderful. I wasn't a fan of their spicy scallop temaki (I didn't like that they minced the scallops) but I had it as a maki and it was great. Their delivery was very quick, as I discovered yesterday after ordering delivery the first time. Everyone from the hostesses and the chefs are very nice. It's a small place but can easily fit probably 50 people. Prices are so reasonable I eat here every time I go into Alameda. read more

I went to Sushi King in Milpitas today, first and last time. Ordered the hamachi; not only was it an off color with the edges slightly curled but it smelled really fishy. I told the sushi maker that I wasn't going to eat it and requested it be taken off the tab, he refused and said that there was nothing wrong with it. Unbelievable! Don't waste your time. read more

Best sushi-in-plastic you can buy. This is a little stall in the Marketplace that sells pre-packaged lunch for the two people besides me who actually work on Alameda Island. If you have time to pull up one of the four stools and eat, I recommend it. It's good sushi. You won't write home about it but you're on Alameda Island so get some perspective and eat here with great enjoyment. read more

I was picking up coffee at the Beanery and needed to grab some quick take-out for lunch so I thought I'd give Sushi King a try. It's a very small shop in the Alameda Marketplace with only like 4 seats at the sushi bar. The woman behind the counter was very friendly. I tried their sushi special which gives you 4 pieces of nigiri and 6 pieces of spicy tuna roll for a reasonable $8.99. As far as sushi goes, that's pretty cheap. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from a tiny and inexpensive sushi place in a marketplace but I was pretty impressed. The fish was pretty fresh, fresher than Sushi House I think. The slices of salmon, tuna, and hamachi where were thicker than I expected. So, the sushi special was well worth it, good and cheap. I think it's pretty reasonable to judge a sushi place by their sushi combo. Too bad they don't have more seating. If I could, I'd give them 4.5 stars. read more

I am SO glad I read the yelp reviews for this place because I never would have found it! I'm a big fan of the Marketplace but just always walked by this place and really discounted it because it's so small and didn't seem like a "legit" restaurant. After reading Yelp reviews though I decided to give it a try and ordered some sushi to go when my mom was visiting. We are all total sushi people so we can be quite critical when it comes to good and bad places. This place though was AWESOME. We ordered a ton of rolls for just 4 people and they were all just delicious...the only thing that was better...THE PRICE! Whew I was worried I had gotten more sushi than I could fit in my budget but for around 6 rolls and a sashimi sampler and side orders of nigiri it was around $65....that's cray cray! Sushi is always freshly made. Sometimes the wait is a bit long (30mjn-1hour) but worth it if you have time. Also, conveniently located in a small market so you can shop while you wait. There's also a free parking lot so you don't have to look or spend on parking. read more

This sushi joint is pretty good, obviously it's not like Japan, I don't really know why people compare to Japan.. but for the price of it, not bad :) customer service is on point. I asked the cashier what their popular choices were and she gave me a list, and also, she informed me that I can opt out on some fishes if I don't like the certain type ! Great sushi joint! I like coming here because people are also so nice. Sushi is fresh here if you order. I can say how fresh the sushi is in the refrigeration unit, but they change it out quite often. The rolls are large and delicious! The old downside is there's limited seating and because it's inside the marketplace, it can get quite loud. Still, it's a wonderful place to grab some good sushi and enjoy a book. read more

There's no status updates on when the order is ready or estimated time for pick up. After 30 min, I came to pick up my order and they ended up giving my order to a different customer. Don't ever order from here unless you like bad customer service and nasty food. I called in to order take-out and was told 15mins and waited over an hour for my food. When I finally received my food. I was so happy after the long wait I didn't check the food until I got home. I asked for no teriyaki sauce on the chicken but seems like they put extra sauce. I order California Roll which I didn't receive. The veggie tempura was soggy and consisted of 2 pieces of onion, 2 zucchini, and 2 carrots which they charge you $7 and I watched them take it out of another take-out bag that was sitting on the counter for 30mins to give to me. Let's be completely honest with how "sushi people" rate "sushi". There are some who judge the fish and rice for nigiri. There are others who rate the elaborate rolls drowned in special sauce. Sushi King has about 4 maybe 5 different fishes you can have nigiri style. So if you're looking for aji, butterfish or other types typically found at sushi bars, you're at the wrong place. You know their target demographics when they have 5 pages of sushi rolls and a half page of nigiri. Three star price for three star fish. If you're in town and want to try it out, go here. This place has the best cuts of salmon that I've found so far for an affordable price. Their salmon is consistently so smooth and delicious that I come here specifically when I'm craving salmon sashimi. They also let you get just salmon in a bento box or in a bowl of rice; I haven't seen this option anywhere else! Their prices are pretty decent for sushi and service is typically fast and polite, although there's limited seating--just four seats at a bar. There is more bar seating across the way, however, if it gets crowded. I've been here 3/4 times now and it's never been an issue. Great little reliable sushi spot if you're in the area! Terrible service, rude, and very very slow. I went here after shopping to pick up a couple sushi rolls. I honestly was just planning to pick up something pre-made, but they were all gone. I asked a couple times if my order was coming soon, but they didn't seem to care. After waiting over 25 minutes (and having two people receive their larger orders before me), I asked the woman to refund my money (as my daughter was now definitely getting ready to be home to go to bed). She went back behind the counter and proceeded to do other things. I had bad service, no food, and was charged $25. This place is a disaster. Spicy tuna is a Siracha mess. Second they use the wakame with food coloring and msg. Not cool. Third they commit the fatal tempura sin. There is a big ol pile of prefried shrimp. This means it is cold and soggy when they roll it not hot and crunchy. This defeats the whole point of tempura in sushi. Everywhere is doing this now and it marks the great decline of tempura rolls. Very sad. I knew better but came bc it is the only sushi spot on the island open between lunch and dinner. The service was good. That is why they get 2 stars not 1. Go to yellowtail bistro at lunch. They get it right, except they do commit tempura sins at dinner. read more

Came here since we were in the area after a Pokemon GO event and wanted sushi. This place came up as a single $ sign so we would assume cheaper sushi than those with $$, but this place is definitely two $ signs like all the others... Is it because it's inside the Marketplace where rotisserie chickens are $20 (I'll take a $5 Costco one instead any day), so it's "relatively" marked only one $? =_= Not to mention the Marketplace bathroom system is janky and completely ate up the token I used to get into the bathroom, still not letting me in, so I had to wait for someone inside to open the door. Well, despite the mishaps, I had a pleasant experience at Sushi King overall. Food and service were both good, though nothing exceptional. My husband and I come around the area for Pokemon GO events since our more local businesses have some lame folk who got the Pokestops removed--I'm never giving Hallmark money ever again-- and this Sushi King is another decent place to check out if you're in the area. i work over in Fruitvale somedays, so we hop the bridge to Alameda for lunch often (cause like, there's nothing healthy to eat in my immediate surroundings). my old standard on the island of places to eat when i am craving sushi (or don't know what i'm craving)....SUSHI KING! if you wanna wait a minute for something special, they have tons of great rolls on the menu. otherwise they have a few fresh ones just made and all ready to go! plus there is a small bar with four seats if you prefer to eat there. the miso soup was the only bummer. kinda cold, weak... i wasn't impressed. but otherwise, it's fast, fresh fish, and in the midst of the Alameda marketplace....so if your friend is not in the mood for sushi, no prob! read more
