Great AYCE lunch spots are rare, but Ichiban actually delivers. The lunch pricing is affordable without cutting corners on quality, which is the whole point. The selection is solid. Plenty of rolls, hand rolls, grilled meats, and even some dim sum favorites. Service is quick, and sometimes a robot rolls up with your food, which honestly makes the experience even more fun. The lunch menu includes options like beef short ribs and bulgogi, but the salmon rose was my personal favorite. Every roll had a well balanced ratio of fish, filling, and rice. Nothing skimpy, nothing overloaded. The hand rolls were generously filled too. The dessert area is a nice bonus. There are puddings and ice cream, but the standout is the shaved ice station. Building our own shaved ice with syrups, ice cream, and even adding pudding on top was unexpectedly fun. Lunch and a DIY dessert moment? Say less.

Ichiban AYCE located on Yonge St offers such a huge variety of AYCE options. They have a few premium items that are limited order only but for the other things you can order as many as you want. Service is quick and they clean up fast which is rate in AYCE as they just let the empty plates sit there. They also had a salad bar and ice cream with loads of topping options to choose from which was personally my favourite! Price was $44.99 for dinner coz it was holidays but I think the regular price is slightly lower.

One of the best value AYCE places I have been to. For lunch it is a really great price and there are lots of different options. The quality is decent and what you would expect from an AYCE sushi place. There is a 105 minute time limit, but some Items come out pretty slowly and sometimes not at all so it eats away at the time. Nonetheless it is good value and a nice time. Service can be slow when it is busy, but the interior is very nice and there are lots of tables.

This is a popular AYCE place in Empress Walk on east side Yonge north of Sheppard. Food (4/5) - i rarely do AYCE sushi however was impressed with the large menu of items available including a fair amount of sashimi that you don't normally see on AYCE menus - scallops and octopus for example. Also lots of sushi maki torched sushi and hand rolls too. Of course it's AYCE so fairly average quality although they don't overstuff the maki and sushi with rice like other places do. Also lots of other items like Chinese, appetizers and dim sum. Service (3.5/5) - bit on the slower side mainly because it's a popular place and all of the iPad orders going at once puts pressure on turning around orders I'm sure. Atmosphere (4/5) - decent layout with a lot of tables all over. Clean enough and convenient location with decent parking options around. Overall (3.75/5) - one of the better AYCE options I've been to... similar to KB Sushi in rating.

Beef short ribs at lunch, need to upgrade to premium lunch ($28.99) to have this included

Craving for a variety brought my sister and I to try the Ichiban AYCE for lunch on a weekday. Pros: The restaurant is comfortably laid out and the ordering is done on the ipad. The restaurant will also validate your parking for 2.5 hrs. Cons: Keep in mind that the seating limit is now 1.5 hrs. We were not told this and just assumed we had 2 hours to eat, only to be told at a 1 hr mark that it would be the last food order. There is a small soup/salad/dessert bar that you could still get food from but 1 hr into your seating, they cut off your kitchen order which seemed a little unreasonable to me. We opted for their premium lunch for $28.99 ($4 more than their standard lunch price) because we wanted to short rib option. Disappointingly, the short ribs were chewy and overly salty. The variety of sushi is very limited with thinly cut fish and it didn't seem like a very good value. I would have maybe overlooked the lack of variety for sushi had they been prepared well by a buffet standard, but the rice in the sushi and the rolls was hard with no hint of vinegar. After grabbing a small dessert in a hurry, our lunch came to a disappointing end. Would I come back again? I think not.

Came to try their lunch ayce special. Was pretty disappointing. Service was meh. Food was meh. Decor is huge but not ugly but not nice. It's socialism enough and u won't be too close to the next table. My really sucks was they claim they validate parking but unlike other places that do the same thing their machine was broken. They said just talk to the parking ppl. I ended up paying for it because they didn't respond.

The food is fine. Quite middle of the road. All things which are pretty common at most all-you-can-eat places. The sushi itself is pretty decent but the service is very slow. It also seemed like dishes came out in random batches (ie things that were ordered in the first batch came out in the 3rd or 4th batch). They do have a decent dessert and cold bar though. They even have a nice Japanese shaved ice machine which makes soft shaved ice like snow. They also have various toppings. This place certainly has staying power and has been here for a long time. It was also quite full so it is popular of sorts. I'd rate it higher if their service was a bit faster and organized. Otherwise a decent all-you-can-eat. This was based on their lunch menu. Their dinner service is a bit better and more of a 4/5 experience. They also validate parking 2.5 hrs free.

My family and I visited this AYCE place for lunch. Best value for food! Everything we ordered was delicious and fresh. A cool robot even delivered our food. The kids loved it! The sushi was fresh and fish was delicious. I really loved the variety of food this place has, they also introduce new food items so they keep customers interested. The service was great. I asked for another table as our family felt kind of cramped in the first table we were seated at. They quickly accommodated us. The place gets busy pretty fast so make reservations if you are coming!

June 21, 2025 - Ichiban AYCE Lunch Review I visited Ichiban for their all-you-can-eat lunch and made sure to sample a wide variety of meats and sushi. As an avid sushi lover, I enjoyed most of the dishes--typical of a standard AYCE sushi spot. Red dragon, green dragon, rainbow dragon roll... Etc Surprisingly, the okra stood out as a highlight, even though I initially didn't want to fill up on vegetables. One dish that didn't quite hit the mark for me was the octopus with wasabi sushi--it's likely an acquired taste. I also noticed that shaved ice is becoming a trend at AYCE restaurants, and Ichiban has joined the wave. A nice, refreshing touch to end the meal.

We had the upgraded lunch at Ichiban and it was delicious. The upgrade included beef ribs, bulgogi, and more. We got a nice selection of sushi, though the menu did seem a bit basic. The dessert and soups were really good because we got a bit hungry while waiting for our food. Also, the iPad was lagging after we placed each order and it took a while to return to the menu. Overall, the service was good and the decorations were a nice touch.

I love Ichiban and their Markham location is my go-to for AYCE but this was my first time at the North York location. It's quite spacious and great for small/large groups however some of the tables have a clear divider and a lack of privacy between the two tables. Similarly to the other location, they have a soft serve bar with soup, sui mai, salad, shrimp cocktail, seaweed & mango salad, and desserts including jello/pudding, ice cream, and shaved ice. The food in general was pretty good, though I do prefer the Markham one more and there is less variety here. Service was quick. They do have the robots bring out the food to you as well. They also validate your parking ticket and is good for up to 2.5 hours.

Overall a really good option for AYCE sushi. I think their quality has really improved from before. They have quite a few special options like the snow crab tempera, octopus salad, lots of torched sushi, etc. Their cocktails are also quite interesting and yummy. I also love that they place their sashimi on ice, I think it helps keep it fresh. They also have a good variety of desserts and an ice machine where you can make our own shaved iced. The restaurant is quite big and has lots of seat. Staff was kind and the food came quickly. We did feel a bit rushed even though we came on a weekday and it wasn't busy. However, overall we enjoyed it.

There's no reservation system but they do have a waitlist on Yelp which gets you in line (highly recommended). First to know is you can't pay with credit card here--there's an ATM in the front of the restaurant. As far as the restaurant goes, it was fantastic from start to finish. Our table of 4 was seated and serviced by 1 main staff member, Lydia, who talked us through the whole menu and ordering system, recommended some great starts and then kept us frequently updated all throughout dinner. She checked up on us along with her assistants who were also bringing items and servicing the table. The food quality was excellent with juicy and flavorful cuts of beef along with the shrimp, pork, veggies, side dishes/ponchon, and rice--it kept coming consistently. Grill changes were frequent as well. The atmosphere is lively and there are a lot of servers so you aren't trying get someone's attention all the time. But it doesn't feel too cramped at the same time. As it is AYCE, everyone in our group left full of course and enjoyed each course. I liked the almond tofu at the end! ----TL;DR---- Pros: great selection of meats, quality was top notch, huge portions of course as it is AYCE, service was prompt and all staff were really friendly. Cons: no reservations so need to be on a waitlist. The no credit card system is a bit of an inconvenience. Bottom Line: we loved it--definitely would go back again and enjoy more of their selections! You have to try them if you like meat and AYCE!

It's my go-to spot to get my don fix - I love the wide variety of dons (rice bowls) that they offer with various fish and seafood combinations. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing but it was sort of expected... for only $9, it was about 99% just flour pan-fried in a patty, without any substantial fillings (unlike real okonomiyaki, which usually contains protein / seafood, cabbage, eggs, and other ingredients). Location is super convenient near Bay & Dundas, ambiance is very casual, and service is quick.

What I really liked was that they had 3 options of warm water - Hot, Warm, and room temperature. Instinctively I knew this place cared about the clients digestive health. Though I'm sure if you asked for ice water, they would accommodate (my friend asked for no sauces in her maki roll). The fishes were plated very pretty and because it's sushi of course it tasted good. But I was surprised at the level of wasabi that was plated. Cleared up my sinuses for 30 seconds. The establishment is very clean and bright and a great place to head to if you're in a rush.

We got a bunch of dishes to share and overall liked most things but some things (like the oyster) unfortunately didn't hit as well. Wagyu - thin slices but very tender and very flavorful with the cheese - surprised by how well the flavor combo worked out. Tofu - easily one of my fave agedashi tofu. Huge tofu slices with very chewy outer texture, a bit gelatinous . Really went well with the sauce and toppings Carbonara - nice chewy texture to the udon, not too soft and not too firm. The sauce was nice and creamy. Not as truffley as I thought it would be, wish it was a little more but it was still pretty good Oyster - least favorite of all the dishes we got today. It was a bit sour and the cheese felt like it didn't really help the flavor profile of the oysters. It was super oily from the cheese, felt like it was drowning in cheese/oil flavor Cod - it looks good but something is lacking, maybe in taste? Feel like maybe the marinade did not penetrate enough. The texture is still nice and soft , with a crisp skin . Also was a bit too oily for our liking, compared to other miso cod we have had. It was also a relatively smaller piece of cod. Overall, the appetizers were really good! The oyster and cod were a bit disappointing. Would come back for the carbonara and the other appetizers mentioned though!
