Sushi is definitely sub-par in Lansing alone. I've yet to find one in my rotation. Sushi moto is decent. It's got good value as its pricing is a little less than around town. Located on the west side of Lansing on an off street it did have its own building and plenty of seating. I've actually been back here twice before my review here and both times it wasn't as busy. Service was good. International students I'm assuming. The ramen value at $12 is pretty good my kid says. I didn't get to try it but it looks hearty and worth it. He's the reason for my second visit as he wanted it again. So I got two try something different. First time I had the bento and for $22? It was a lot of food. A great dinner value. I've been here 2 separate times while visiting for a work trip. the food has been absolutely phenomenal both times. If you enjoy sushi this is the place to go. Overall a decent place. Apparently they used to serve free soup and salad but no longer can due to cost of everything so that is a bummer. The miso soup was good as usual, edamame needed more seasoning to it. It was odd because on the menu they have a "cooked" nigiri and sashimi section but I wanted the smoked salmon nigiri raw and they said they couldn't do that- never been to a sushi place and had that issue. The shrimp in my sushi wasn't cleaned properly so I had to take the shrimp out of my shrimp tempura which defeated the purpose of ordering that so I feel I've wasted my money. I do NOT recommend Sushi Moto. A family member suggested this place since we were visiting from out of town, and it was extremely disappointing. Not authentic sushi and horrible quality. My husband and I could not even finish it because it was so bad. We ordered the firecracker roll, yum yum roll, and tigers roll. All were bad. The honey wasabi sauce was just gross and strange. The eel sauce was fake. We did order two tako (octopus) nigiri. Those were the only decent things we got because it was what we expected. The octopus meat on top of rice. Our dinner included the tuna tower, a dozen pieces of sashimi, and a Snow White roll. The tuna tower was pretty okay. It had all the standard components, but it was a bit heavy in "spicy"mayo. Although the spicy mayo, and for that matter the eel sauce as well, tasted like the stuff you can get in a squeeze bottle at Kroger. It was not what I expected even though I did see that other review about the eel sauce being fake. The sashimi was perfect and the presentation was simple and understated. Salmon, snapper, Ahi, and Whitefish served on the usual radish with a side of wasabi and yellow ginger. The Snow White roll was waaaay overloaded with cucumber sticks. I mean, at least 2/3 of the inside of the roll was cucumber. I do not like watercress sandwiches, and I do not like them as a sushi roll either. The service was lacking, but I didn't really expect much in that area. It took a while to order, but part of that was on me for sifting through all four menus. The one thing I noticed was that the vast majority of choices were basically salmon, ahi, or an occasional yellow tail thrown in. I'll be on the lookout for more diversity and flavor. Sushi Moto really blew us away this visit! It was definitely strange getting our temperatures checked at the door and having to write down our name/phone number to dine in, but also a little refreshing to know they are taking appropriate precautions to protect customers from COVID-19. We tried an appetizer and six different rolls so we could take some leftovers home for lunch the next day and they were all great. One other thing I love about this spot aside from their food is that their menu has pictures to help you visualize the portions and presentation. When there are so many options to choose from that tend to sound similar on paper, the images really help me make up my mind. Here was our line up this visit with individual reviews for each item: Pink pocket: This appetizer was delicious, although it came out at the same time as our meal. I probably should have specified that I wanted it prior to the meal as an appetizer since we ordered it at the same time as our rolls, so that's on me! Each piece had a bit of a sweetness to it with a subtle smokiness. I'd order it again for sure and give it *FOUR* stars. Sunday morning: This one has all of my favorite things in it, so naturally I loved it! Deep fried smoked salmon, tamago, and cream cheese. Creamy texture, salty and sweet... *FIVE* stars imho! Note: This roll is on the regular sheet menu (not the one with pictures). Snow White: This roll had a wasabi heat flavor paired with a spicy jalapeño ring atop a delicious tempura shrimp roll, and the flavor was actually really good. You would think that it's all that heat it would be unbearable, but it wasn't at all. *FOUR stars*! Pink blossom: Another one of my favorites! The fresh salmon with citrusy lemon pair so well together, and it makes for a great bite in between two otherwise "spicy" rolls like we had during our visit. *FIVE* stars! Kamikazi: This one was the spiciest of them all tonight and we really liked it. The sriracha spice is different from the wasabi heat, and I think this one may have been just a little spicier than the Snow White roll. It was a thicker roll and had a ton of tempura bits on top which seemed to have balanced out the heat, *FIVE* stars for this one! Florida: this one had mild to medium spice with a smoky finish. It was one of the thicker rolls we ordered and it was also one of our favorites. *FIVE* stars! Mountain: This one was loaded with tempura bits on top which gave it a nice crunch. The wasabi honey really gave it a sweet heat flavor. This one didn't stay together all that well, likely because it was piled high with toppings, but it was still delicious enough to earn *FOUR* stars! read more

This was second visit. A nice, respectable sushi dinner was had both times. The miso soup and salad are a little unremarkable but its close to standard fare. The first time there was an order mix up and I got way too much food - I received the sushi and sashimi deluxe combo when I was looking for just the sushi deluxe. I didn't complain but my stomach was definitely overburdened when I left. The second trip I made sure the order was right and stuck with just the regular sushi which still had five pieces of nigiri and a california (or tuna if you prefer) roll. Not knowing well enough to leave well enough alone I also ordered one of their special rolls. The Vegas roll was cream cheese, mozzarella, avocado, and salmon (see pic). Now you wouldn't guess mozzallera is good on sushi (try the Boston roll at Sakura Battle Creek), but you would be wrong. That was all wrapped up and deep fried, then slathered with spicy mayo and eel sauce. It was as heavy as it sounds and a bit too much but I chowed it down anyway. I was in the mood for sushi so I decided to give this place a try. They were pretty crowded in there however they were able to accommodate my take-out order and get me out quickly. I ordered a California roll and the chicken yakisoba noodle dish. I was pleased with both. It's not the best California roll I've ever had but the portions are nice and the food is reasonably priced. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but as an Vietnamese American in a small town with few sushi options, this place is hands down one of my favorite locations back in my hometown. The quality is high and so is the rice to fish ratio. Cost is not very bad at all and it is a place that I went to when visiting friends back home. Found this sushi restaurant on Yelp with positive reviews so we decided to try last weekend. Looked busy with many tables occupied although we came quite early for dinner (around 4:30pm). We wanted to eat more vegetables this time so no meat/seafood at all. Ordered mango paradise roll and it was fresh, delicious with eel sauce and everything just blended perfectly. One of the best veggie sushi roll we have ever tried. Main dishes have Tofu yakisoba & Kitsune Udon. Kitsune Udon has sweet tofu which my husband really liked but just 2 long pieces and gone. My Yakisoba is a big dish with lots of soft tofu & veggie (carrot, cabbage, bell pepper, white onion etc). I couldn't finish mine but bring home some and heat up for next day. They have many options for sushi which certainly we will come back to try more. Servers were efficient and friendly, they moved around tables quite fast and got all empty dishes out. read more

They also serve salad and soup with every meal and red grapes after you are finished. We recently moved to the west side and saw the good reviews about this place. It is quaint, clean and very nice atmosphere. The service was great and the prices are very reasonable. I ordered two basic rolls (California and spicy tuna), my husband had some specialty rolls. Everything came out as ordered and quickly. I like that an appetizer of ginger salad and miso soup is included. Only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5, is that my husband's rolls were huge. He ended up eating only half of his dish because the rolls were just too large and they kept falling apart when he tried to eat them. Otherwise a fantastic restaurant!
