Tiger roll

Very good sushi for the price! I was impressed with the quality especially since it is more of a take-out place. They have a lot of variety in rolls and they are willing to make anything less or more spicy if you request it.

Mexican Roll & spicy California roll

They have moved to the new location for a while and this is first time we are back after over a year. Seems busy and maybe understaff, you can seat yourself. Food came out quite fast. We ordered spicy California roll, Mexican roll, Takoyaki for appetizer & spicy chicken ramen noodles. I am not so impressed with spicy chicken ramen noodles, flavor is ok, not have much chicken pieces that you can find in the bowl, tiny pieces I would say. However, Takoyaki & sushi are really delicious. We would love to come back and try different kind of sushi next time.

Sushi boat.

Honestly, this place is incredible. The food was very good, it tasted incredible. The atmosphere was extremely comfortable and welcoming, I felt like I was safe and was friends with the staff, shout out to our waiter!! That man was awesome! He was funny, and when I ordered a desert, he brought out something for my friends dad free of charge! He also let us sample the mochi ice cream, which was very good. I extremely recommend the tempura ice cream. It was so good, like, actually... it's melt in your seat, good. They also have a sushi boat, which is a huge boat with sushi and rolls. I personally ordered the teriyaki chicken that was perfect for someone who doesn't eat sushi!! I highly recommend this place!!

Amazing food, good prices, and cute restaurant. Usually a chill and quiet vibe. Surprisingly never really busy, despite it being one of the best sushi restaurants here!

We came on a Saturday at dinner time and just had a short wait time for a booth…read more The vibe was fine; nothing really unique, but had good mood lighting. Our waitress seemed really unsure of herself. We wondered if she may have been new, which is fine, but she just seemed like she wasn't confident or fully present. We had two appetizers; the Rangoon purses, I think they were called; which were nothing extraordinary. We also had the Calamari. It was HUGE. I've never seen such big pieces, they looked like onion rings. The presentation was so bland. No color, no sauces. I know there were sauce options on the table, but I was surprised given that the serving dishes had a spot for sauce, that they couldn't have whipped up something unique for the apps. My friends got the Hibachi and were underwhelmed; they didn't love the miso soup or salads, either. I had ordered the Tiger sushi roll and some Nigiri, which the menu just refers to as "sushi", which was weird. I would say the sushi was a step above Meijer sushi, honestly. Pretty chewy, very basic presentation. Nigiri was okay. No real desire to go back when there are better options.

Service was outstanding from our waitress--the food did take a long time but it came out good…read more(though some of the appetizers were not that good [cold, messy plating, tough]) but you're here for the sashimi, nigiri, and rolls + the AYCE!! Great ambiance. I would come back for the service alone very kind waitresses.

Tempura Sauce: 1/5 Like the restaurant didn't bother with…read moreadding Mirin, Sugar, Ginger Dashi...c'mon...felt like I was eating High Sodium Soy Sauce with every bite. Bulgogi Bowl: 1/5 I can make better Bulgogi at home. Meats tasted half cooked. Overtly overpowered by Korean Bean Paste. Too salty. No texture on the meats, not charred, no caramelization on the meat. Miso Soup: 5/5 If they made the soup in house without using cheater packs...then good for them. Soup was the highlight of today's meal. Crazy Dragon Roll: 4/5 Your typical Unagi Roll. Can't screw this one up. Lady owner was busy, was just herself running around. Amazing even at the age of 60+...place has got pretty decent ambiance. I'm guessing if I just stuck with Rolls or even Hibachi, my rating wouldn't be this low

Visiting Ukai was an experience I'm glad we decided to have in celebrating a special birthday!…read moreWhile the setting can be boisterous and erupt into celebratory expletives, it only last for a few moments and was fun! I recommend making a reservation if you intend on partaking in the Hibachi experience. The team members we encountered at the front desk were welcoming and helpful given our entire party didn't show on time. We were able to get their orders by phone as to not delay the Hibachi chefs. The chefs are entertaining performing tricks on the grill and interactive activities with the customers! (We chose to tip our chef) The food is definitely fresh, the veggie selection was plentiful and the cuts of meat superb. Each of our Hibachi grill selections were served with miso soup, salad, a few grilled shrimp, and two sauces. The miso soup was a tad muted in flavor and lukewarm but the ginger dressing on the salad was crisp and marvelous! The veggies were cut in the perfect size and cooked to perfection as were the noodles and rice. The meats could have used a bit more seasoning but were grilled to perfection. I look forward to dining again at Ukai and next time will just ask for heavy seasoning on the meat!

MSU Graduation weekend started with Maru Sushi & Grill! After driving from Illinois we were hungry…read moreso we decided to come here. We were seated immediately and place was already packed as I saw some new grads already celebrating! For appetizers we got Crunchy Firecracker Shrimp, crab rangoon dip, and for lunch I got the Veggie Udon Soup. The firecracker shrimp was crisp and had a little spice to it. It came out quickly and was still hot which was good! The Veggie Udon soup was hot which was great cause I was a little cold. The broth was seasoned nicely and did not have too much salt. The veggies were cooked just right. I tried the sweet potato roll and it was just like your normal roll - nothing stood out but it was good! The rest of the family enjoyed their food but they did not enjoy the Bulgogi, my one son said, "I should have known better to get a Korean dish at a Japanese Restaurant. The meat was over cooked and the taste was so-so. The place was lively with all the post or pre graduation lunches! The server was attentive but we sat at a 4 top with 5 people so we had to ask for extra plates, chopsticks, etc. Overall, food was delicious and we totally enjoyed the epxereince as we felt the excitement of the graduates, espcially the one at our table!

I'm absolutely flabbergasted that I have to spend the rest of memorial weekend with food poisoning, especially after spending $60+ tip for a lunch with myself and my two toddlers. While it seems that cleanliness is not a top priority, I should have walked out when the high chair they brought my two year old was filthy. How hard is it to clean a high chair? If the front of the house is dirty, it makes one wonder what the back of the house looks like. And now I'm especially curious after being sick all night. The odd thing is, they were not busy and they were not short staffed. The culprit was either the papa crema roll or the crab Rangoon dip. My bet it was the dip because it just tasted off. You could definitely tell that the Rangoon chips were not made fresh that day. Not only did they taste funny but they were also stale. However, it could have been a handful of things. Take a look at the most recent health inspections and there are some huge red flags; ones that come at no surprise given the way I have felt for the last 18 hours. Do yourself a favor and don't eat at Maru. They don't even have a three compartment sink. How in the heck are they cleaning ANYTHING properly?
