This place is totally my new sushi spot. I'm from Florida and haven't had great sushi like this since I left and I've been around.

Sushimoto is the best sushi available in the Lansing area. My S.O. and I have been coming here for the past year together (although he came here prior to me living in town) and we literally are there once, sometimes twice, a week. They have excellent prices, and all of the staff is polite and friendly. We've never had a bad time at sushimoto. Their scallop is probably my favorite fish that they have, always tastes ridiculously fresh. The chefs here are great, truly talented. The servers are kind and friendly and always are open to giving you suggestions on your food. I recommend Sushimoto to everyone. read more

It doesn't look like much from the parking lot, but inside there is cozy ambiance and pretty decor. Think: classy enough to do business lunch, but intimate enough for date night. You get free miso soup & salad for rolls $6+ (although portion size was slightly smaller than we are used to, the ginger dressing was delicious). We tried the YumYum Roll & Milky White Tuna (not sure if I got the name of the second one correct). Both rolls were delicious. Pricing was comparable to sushi restaurants in East Lansing (we prefer Sansu, Maru, and Omi for East Lansing). Green tea for me & Sapporo for him (they only had bottled, but offered 2 sizes). Service was friendly and prompt. So glad to have found this on the West side of Lansing. I will definitely be back again (would like to try the lunch specials). read more

This place is an awesome hole in the wall place. The calamari is super good. All the combos are really reasonably priced and great way to try a variety of rolls. I haven't had one bad thing here. read more

Sushi Moto - Moro Combo - Japanese Near Me - Lansing, Michigan

Best sushi around!!! Highly recommend the mushroom and cucumber roll to all the veggie roll lovers out there.

Sushi Moto is my favorite sushi restaurant in the greater Lansing area (I've been to four others). They have a large sushi menu, and their other offerings (e.g. gyoza) are also delicious. Their prices are great, service is top-notch, and the restaurant is clean and comfortable. Sushi Moto's sushi menu is not much different from a popular East Lansing sushi restaurant that I also frequent, but Moto's sushi is much more flavorful. My favorite roll is their spicy California, followed closely behind by king shrimp roll. I do not eat raw fish alone, so I cannot comment on their sashimi. read more

The sushi was creative and tastes great. Outside might not look the best but inside is really lovely. They also serve Korean dishes...but that's not so good; very dry and does not taste like Korean seasoning at all. Overall, sushi was good, staff is friendly but they should just stick with their sushi. read more

Quick service! Also the rolls were bigger than normal, but the rolls were not rolled tight. They were all falling apart. Other than that I will just give it an ok. Still like Ukai better. The other part about this place is that they it doesn't seem like anyone is ever there. kind of makes me wonder why. Also the inside still looks like it is under construction in some places. read more

The are four sushi places that we have tried: Sansu & Ai Fusion on the east side; Ukai & Sushi Moto on the west side. Where all offer great sushi and service, the other three have higher prices during dinner service. Sushi Moto is a cozy restaurant with wonderful staff and great food. The Crazy Boy is my favorite, like a California Roll on steroids. There's a "breakfast" roll with tamago that is really good, and the gyoza appetizer is yummy, too! Love this place. Would eat here every day if I could! read more

Good sushi place and good restaurant. The highlights: -The dressing on my side salad at lunch was delicious and gingery, I want the recipe! -The wasabi paste and pickled ginger that came with my sushi roll were good quality. -There were many sushi rolls to choose from and we all were happy with our choices. -The waitress catered to my two young children (1 yr and 2 and 1/2) so well. She saw we were giving my son spoonfuls of hot tea so she brought him his own in a kid-friendly cup without us asking. Then she rigged up a pair of chopsticks with a rubber band so my son could use the chopsticks, again, without us asking. She also served the food away from their reach and was friendly towards them. Its a big deal when dining with small children. read more

I wish I lived next door. This place has one of best food ever! I always order either their bulgulgi or their beef teriyaki. Both are flavorful and have good portion for its price. Their bibimbap is also a favorite of mine Lastly their customer service is always good, and do their best to please the customer. read more

A bit further from the Lansing "proper" but totally worth making a trip. Sushi rolls are affordable and very filly. I also enjoy my salmon entree whenever I go. Very good service as well. Good place for group party or gathering. read more

Sushi is so good and at a reasonable price. Also, with dine in you get miso soup and ginger salad. Yum.

Don't let the exterior of the building fool you! This is one of the best sushi restaurants in Lansing. Nice atmosphere, great service and even better food. I will definitely be back. read more

I'm far from a sushi connoisseur or professional reviewer, but I know what I like & don't, & I really REALLY like Sushi Moto. They are as creative with their roll selection as I've experienced anywhere, & the presentation is totally top notch. If this was in my hometown of Denver, I'd consider them one of the better in town, considering I'm talking about Sushi in Lansing, this place is da' bomb! read more

I've been to Sushi Moto a number of times over their years of being open on the west side of Lansing. Fresh, well-attending food & atmosphere. We've always walked away satisfied and continue to bring others that want an exposure to some form of local sushi. read more

Terrible service. Do not recommend... very rude staff. Used to come here all the time but will never be back. Go somewhere like Ukai where you will be treated well and have a great experience! read more

Got a red fin roll, it was about $10 and huge. I like the two sauces that came with it

I have been going to this place probably for as long as I remember and trust me, 99 percent of the time it is never a disappointment. Seriously. The only downside is that sometimes a little wasabi gets on your food but that doesn't really matter. This is one of the only sushi places I have been to and can say that there is no other one I would rather be to. The prices are affordable for the amount of greatness that comes with it. I usually get the crunch crunch and it is always great. It doesn't look like that much on the outside but the inside was gorgeous. If you ever find it, it is worth it. That is just my opinion but I don't see how it could be just mine. read more

Came in today for lunch and had such quick service ! Every one was so polite and the undon noodles were AWESOME ! Favorite place in town for any sushi needs dragon roll is always fab along with passion roll! Thank you amazing service keep it up !!! read more

One of my favorite sushi places anywhere in the country! The service is always great, the prices are reasonable, & the sushi is always fresh & tasty. I've never had a bad experience. I routinely recommend it to others and take guests. read more

Okay, the fish was fresh, I will give it that. However, the massive, poorly cut slabs they try to pass for sashimi are just not good. The rice has too much sugar, the soy sauce is watery. Also, an iceberg lettuce salad as a starter? What? We also ordered a vegetable tempura that was soaking in oil and soggy. I really don't mean to sound like a sushi snob, but if you've ever had sushi at an authentic place - where the fish is cut properly and melts in your mouth - you will be sadly disappointed at Sushi Moto. read more

Absolutely our favorite sushi place in the central michigan area, and we've been to pretty much all of them (everything in EL/okemos/jackson). We compare all the sushi places we visit to this standard. The ambiance at sushi moto is definitely not what you'd expect being right next to a Little Caesar's. It's classy and understated and a little dark and romantic but still very casual, makes for a great date night. Don't judge it by the lot or their seemingly endless construction and renovation (outside only, the inside is gorgeous) I suppose it just means the owner wants to keep improving. The decor definitely shows some thoughtfulness, it's much better than you usually find. The owner/chef has been there the majority of the times we've stopped in, which we love to see. It's definitely a guy who knows his stuff and cares. We've been in on super slow Sunday afternoons and he's still there. The only time I've been a little disappointed in this restaurant was when it was someone else behind the counter and the rolls were cut poorly--very unevenly sized pieces and cuts that were more diagonal than straight. They were still tasty, but aesthetically, not up to par. Service is always super fast and pleasant! The specialty rolls are huge, really hard to fit in one mouthful. You definitely get your money's worth and they're very complex, elegant creations and when it's the owner, they're like works of art. You get just a little miso soup and salad with them, just enough to get those wonderful tastes without spoiling your appetite. Their miso soup is delicious! Their salad is ok (I like sushiya's better), but their lettuce is always cold and crisp. Even their cheaper rolls are better than most and definitely worth getting. I absolutely recommend the Crunch Crunch roll. We always get at least two of them, they have crunchy tempura bits on the outside and eel sauce and spicy crab on the inside. For the price, they're one of my favorites! Their nigiri is also huge and amazing and the prices are pretty decent. And you know you're paying for quality preparation and quality fish here. The only thing is, I wish they had sushi specials for dinner. They usually have a large board of lunch/weekday specials but I wish they had specials like a half-price night or specific rolls half price/buy 1 get 1, etc. But that's not enough to dethrone it from the Favorite Sushi Place title. read more

Our favorite sushi place. We try to get something different every time as well as our favorites -- the passion roll and dragon roll. Today we tried the Sunday Morning roll...wonderful. Now we have three favorites. read more

The service was amazing and the food was absolutely delicious! What a great place :)

I ordered take out while I was on the road. The first time I called they didn't pick up the phone. I called a second time and a woman answered the phone and took my order. When I pulled into the parking lot I was the only car there. It was 3:30pm. I went inside and told the man who approached me that I had a take out order. He told me to wait and then went in the back. 5 minutes later a woman emerged and asked me what my order was. I told her and she packed it up. All in all it took about 30 minutes from the time I called, drove there and then finally got my food. Because they didn't seem to care about the service I'm giving them a three. The food was 4 star quality. The miso in particular was 5 star quality. Unfortunately they didn't give me anything to eat my soup with. Being that I travel for work frequently, I had a spoon in my car so I didn't have to drink it from the bowel. read more

Sushi Moto - Japanese Near Me - Lansing, Michigan

i got a horrible case of food poisoning after ordering only veggie rolls here. and i see from other reviews that i'm not the only one who had this problem. hoping management sees this and takes proper sanitation measures ASAP. writing to hopefully prevent this happening to anyone else--even if you think you're safe ordering veggie! read more

Good sushi, great prices, friendly servers, and a pleasant atmosphere. Try the Volcano combo!

Really good and has reasonable price as well! I have only been there once, but several friends of mine have been there many times, and they all like it very much! Don't quite remember the names of the sushi I had, but I would recommend something with a "fire" in it and honestly michigan roll is not really very good. Anyway, this is the second best sushi place I like in lansing, east lansing and okemos area. read more

Nice place. Kind of trendy music. Sushi chefs work like machines and are fast. Bulgogi bento was plenty of food although the sauce was not as spicy as I like. Wait staff were very attentive and friendly. Prices were reasonable. read more

I really enjoyed Firecracker and Passion sushi. The inside is pleasant and simple. We were the only ones in there Thursday evening around 8pm. So we were given our space and enjoyed not being harassed for 2 hrs. That's always a bonus in my opinion. read more

I've moved away from the area and I miss this restaurant. I am a fan of their Baked Salmon Roll - no other places have done that good.

I have been coming here regularly for the past year. I am so happy to have found this Sushi place out of the myriad Sushi restaurants in the greater Lansing area. The service is always great, the food comes out fast and the menu is expansive. Prices are more than fair. Miso soup and salad comes with most rolls. My favorite rolls are the YumYum roll and the House roll. It is a little difficult to find and the parking lot is small but I would highly recommend dining here. read more

Sushi Moto had the three things I look for in a sushi restaurant, clean, friendly, and delicious. The staff was so helpful and kind. They made you feel like they were happy you were dining with them. I had the eel and avocado roll and it was so good. I would recommend this to anyone who loves sushi. read more

Fantastic food and even better service. One of the chefs heard us talking about being curious about something and he actually sent us over a few rolls of it for free! Not to mention that the prices are some of the best out there for sushi. read more

Only option for Sushi on the west side. Servicable rolls and decent lunch combos. But stay away from the Udon -- last two times it was obviously days old and reheated, really disgusting. read more
