When hanging with friends, I always try to take their recommendations for dinner because it usually leads me to places they genuinely adore. I got to hang out with one of my friends from college who was in town for winter break in the Round Rock area, and he suggested Sushi NiNi for dinner. We arrived around 6:30 pm during their extended happy hour, which lasts until 7 pm, and were seated immediately. I very rarely eat sushi, but I have enjoyed what I've had in the past. As my friends ordered, they clearly knew what they were doing, so I followed their lead. One friend ordered a Spider Roll, while my other friend ordered nigiri of the salmon and snapper along with a Volcano Roll. I copied him. The nigiri was great, but I really enjoyed the flavor and kick from the Volcano Roll. The spicy mayo and jalapeños added a nice heat and balanced well with the shrimp. I also liked the crunch. After that, I sent in another order to try the nigiri of the grilled eel, which was heavenly. I have never had eel before, and it absolutely floored me with its flavor. I could easily eat five orders of it. The staff was attentive throughout our visit. One staff member somehow accidentally served my friend a glass of soy sauce instead of unsweetened tea, which was absolutely hilarious to me, so I don't really have anything to complain about. I have no idea how that mix-up happened, but maybe the soy sauce refill container looks similar to their tea containers and sits nearby. Either way, it was very funny. I hope to return to Sushi NiNi in the future because the sushi was excellent and fairly priced. I don't think I paid over $30 for everything I ordered, and it all tasted fresh and well prepared. The noodles were completely plain--no sauce at all. My daughter immediately said she wasn't going to eat them because of how they looked. I politely asked if the noodles could be removed from my order. The staff went to get a manager, who offered to add sauce--but only teriyaki. When she brought it out, she made a point to say (in front of other customers) that the sauce normally costs $1 but she would "just give it to me today." That comment felt unnecessary and honestly humiliating with people watching. Even with the sauce, my daughter still refused to eat the noodles since they were originally prepared plain. I do appreciate the attempt to fix the issue, but the way it was handled made me feel uncomfortable. I really wish there was more awareness and sensitivity, especially for individuals with sensory needs or specific food preferences. A little more understanding and better communication would go a long way. Unfortunately, this experience makes me hesitant to return. read more

If you're providing high chairs and welcoming families with young kids, it's really not acceptable to have zero accommodations for diaper changes. I think the entire restaurant is nut allergy friendly, the waitress didn't seem to be concerned. Quite a large dining area that was packed at 6:30PM on a Friday evening. Even still, we only had a five minute wait for a group of five. The menu is quite extensive. I wasn't too hungry, so I only ordered the Crazy Roll ($12 after tax and tip). They forgot my order, so our group was there watching me eat at the end. We got our orders about 15 minutes after ordering, and I got mine 20 minutes after that (about 5-10 minutes after they noticed that they forgot). I tried my friend's sashimi and found it similarly textured to a thickly cut grocery store sashimi. It was a bit chewy, but not fishy - still somewhat fresh. This sampler seemed quite overpriced; I have had better quality sashimi at AYCE places. My crazy roll had large pieces and varying textures of fish inside. I also got a taste of the Negi Toro Hand Roll, which was maybe a 3.5/5 but mostly because I enjoy the flavor of fatty tuna. I wasn't very impressed by the quality of the fish overall. My friend really enjoyed their tempura shrimp, so maybe give that a shot. read more

For an appetizer we got seaweed salad and their cucumber salad. These were both fantastic! The seaweed salad had the traditional flavor and a great crunch. The cucumber salad was in a sweet vinegar dressing and a great crunchy texture. Both were very fresh. I would rate the seaweed salad 9/10 & cucumber salad a 9.5/10. For rolls we got a beautiful roll and an a Philly roll where I subbed cream cheese for avocado, then added a siracha drizzle. The waitress also brought us extra ginger and gluten free soy sauce upon request. The rolls were great and large cuts of salmon and tuna. Very fresh tasting. My only complaint was that the cream cheese on the beautiful roll was not even some bites had a bit too much while others much less. Overall great dishes! I would rate the Alaska roll 9/10 and the beautiful roll 8/10. The service was good and they let us sit outside even though no one was really out there.
