    Chicken Karaage Don
    Carrie M.

I had the Tori no Karaage Don, and the chicken karaage with white rice was really tasty. The chicken was moist and flavourful. However, it came with a side salad which was lettuce coated in ginger, and the taste was quite unpleasant. I tried to eat as much of it as I could, but I couldn't stomach it. $16 for the rice bowl was steep considering how simple it was as there was only white rice and chicken in the bowl with no vegetables and a meager side salad. I got my order for takeout, and the soup spilled only after a few minutes of sitting upright in my car. When I got home, there was only about 1/8 left of the soup at the bottom of the container, which was really sad. The little that I had tasted good though. I think their soup packaging could be improved because the container was sealed the whole time. To be honest, the worst part of my experience was waiting for my food. They gave me a buzzer, so I kept walking around the food court while eyeing this stall, and the buzzer never rang. I eventually came back after 30 minutes and asked. The cashier was very apologetic and said the buzzer was probably broken, and the food had been ready for a long time. I just felt like I had wasted so much time and also didn't want to come back asking if they were just taking a long time to make it. I know it wasn't their fault, but it was a big inconvenience.

    Tuna sushi

A friend and I went to H Mart for a Yelp event at Beard Papa's. We got there a little early and searched around for a place to grab a quick bite before having the cream puffs. I chose Umami St. Sushi because I just wanted something simple and inexpensive. The tray of eight tuna sushi rolls for the bill perfectly! There was no waiting involved. The sushi was ready to eat. It was simple and tasty. Since it's only a counter, there is not much ambiance to report. Though the area is nice and clean.

    Tempura udon

Normally I would want to try the sushi or the rice bowls here, simply off of the name "Sushi & Donburi" but I was really craving some udon, so I tried the Tempura udon instead. The broth was pretty light with a slight sweetness, so I was a big fan of that. The noodles are nice and bouncy, and the tempura has a good variety of options. But I do wish the egg was a little jammier and the tempura was kind of greasy. Literally just touching it, would put a sheen of oil on my fingertips. And it started making me feel greasy in the way you feel gross when you eat too much oil. That being said lol, I would still come back to try their sushi and rice bowls. Or even their seafood option might be a better bet, because it's all the same things but without the tempura.

Needed a quick snack after a pretty rigorous workout, so iI stopped by Umami, in the HMart complex for sushi. I chose shrimp sushi. The cashier was super efficient and provided great service. It's a counter where you great you're food and go. There is seating in the food court to sit and eat, however, I ate in my car. The sushi was tasty.

Stellar walk up and order sushi located in the H Mart food court. High quality and reasonably priced!

Second time here! The salmon bento was perfect. Though I prefer sashimi, their sushi was fresh. The rice was perfect. I'm not suppose to eat white rice only brown rice but when I do, it's from Umami. Service was made to order so it's nice and warm and fresh. Nice decoration even in a food square environment!

    Spicy BBQ Buta Don
    Brian C.

The spicy butadon is now one of my favorite meals in the whole food court! The charred flavor is subtle but adds a layer of complexity to the meat. The spice level is manageable but adds a great overall flavor. It comes with miso soup and salad as well. I'll have to try the sushi next time.

For roughly $60 the wife was full and we had roughly 6 dishes and one cocktail (I was still slightly hungry). Think of it as more of a tapas style ordering. Soft shelled crab - My absolute favorite and by far the best dish! Crispy from the breading, soft shell and subtle crab taste, and to top it off the fried egg adds some creaminess from the yolk. Not greasy at all due to the way it's fried. And who doesn't like a little microgreen to add some freshness to it?! It could likely use a little more salt, and this particular time the yolk was a overcooked. Sushi Tacos - 2nd favorite! You get two, and frankly I prefer not sharing these (although my wife forced me to). It's such a unique dish. Each taco is palm sized. They take a yummy piece of laver (seaweed), coat one side and deep fry it to make a nice hard shell taco casing. Then they fill it with sushi rice, top it with plentiful tuna, add a slice of avocado, and top it with micro greens. Refreshing, light (once you squeeze the tiny lime on top), slightly filling due to the rice, and absolutely delicious. Takoyaki - I'm not a fan, but the wife is. For me it's a texture thing. Even when visiting Japan I didn't enjoy this dish. Honestly though I do think it deserves far more bonito flakes, as the dish is meant to look alive from the waving flakes. Honestly we love this place so much, I always get engrossed in the food so much I forget to take pics. The overall ambience is chill and refined, albeit no white tableclothes, but it acts like it should have them. This location gets busy during dinner time, however during happy hour it's rarely even 1/4 full. Monday's the happy hour is all day!

Our server said she would remove it from the bill, which I appreciated--but the manager refused. Instead, he insisted I pay for it and even tried to pressure me into eating it. The lack of flexibility and understanding made an already frustrating situation worse. We don't go out to eat often, so this was especially disappointing. Overall, the service was poor and not how customers should be treated.

By far this is the best calamari we've eaten (and we test it at every Asian restaurant). Large selection of rolls and ala carte sushi and sashimi- we filled up before the yakisoba came out. Huge serving of chicken was served with the noodles, which were prepared to order with chili paste to make them perfectly extra spicy. Unlike many restaurants, soup and salad were served with the yakisoba entree and overall this made the meal a good value. Overall we were pleasantly surprised to have leftovers and a reasonable bill. The dining room is large and nicely decorated. Servers were attentive and friendly. Thomas was our main server and he took great care of us. We did not sit at a hibachi table but could see them nearby and it's quite a show. We will return and try that another evening. Highly recommend!

We did a google search and this place was about 15 minutes away so we went on a Friday night before our movie. We got there at 6pm and got sat right away which was awesome. The place was huge and clean. The servers were super nice. My sister and I ordered one plate and shred it while my husband got his own. We ordered the soft shell crab but was disappointed which is why it was only 4 stars. It was so heavily battered that we couldn't even taste the crab itself. I'd say to do a light batter for this before frying. The best part of a soft shell crab is the taste of the crab not the batter. But all in all I'd come back!

Came to Don Don Express again, but this time for takeout!…read more I already knew I wanted the Chicken Katsu again after a really great experience last time. I also checked out the appetizer menu and decided to try the curry pancake. The boxed Chicken Katsu came out piping hot. It was still a generous portion of chicken layered over rice. When I saw the side compartment, I paused for a second and thought, is that soup? Then I realized it was actually the onion, egg, and soy mixture that goes with donburi. I did not know it would be packed separately, so I was not especially careful with the container and a little of it spilled into the bag. That said, I really applaud this place for separating it. It kept the chicken katsu crispy and the rice dry and fluffy until I was ready to eat. The curry pancake was different from what I expected, but in a pleasant way. It was not filled with curry or mixed into the dough. Instead, it was a hot, crispy, flaky Asian-style pancake with a texture similar to a scallion pancake, served with a curry dipping sauce. The curry had a bold and flavorful profile. It was not thick but nor sweet as the usual Japanese curry block sauces, as I was expeecting since it is a japnese themeed place. Te curry to me tatded more indian curry stlye, a bit spicy and a strong but it had a strong savory depth. Because of the texure closer to a desn flavor croth it did not cling to the pancake as much, not like how naan would scoopt up the curry, but it still paired very well, and works nice with the katsu, too! Very happy with this meal and definitely excited to return again.

This is a great celebration place, as the grill/table seats 8-10 people. They make a big deal out of special occasions--they've banged a gong and had us pose with a katana for a birthday picture. All hibachi entrees are cooked on the grill in front of you. There are several proteins to choose from: chicken, scallops, shrimp, lobster, and various cuts of beef. The dinner entrees also include soup, salad, mixed vegetables, and two shrimp. Upgrade your rice to fried rice for an additional charge--must not miss. There is also a 10 and under kids menu with generous portions and great prices. Generally, there are three chefs that rotate amongst the tables. They each put on a show--flipping and tossing utensils and one of the chefs adds quite a bit of comedy and another level of skill. They also have everyone try to catch bits of shrimp that are launched through the air. Unfortunately, one of the chefs, who has been there for years, comes across as disinterested and, to make it worse, he doesn't season the food very much, so it comes out bland. That being said, recommend.
