Boutique Sushi Restaurant right off Center City Pkwy. Our waitress and the two chefs working the night we ate here were Awesome! This place is small, but nicely decorated. The special rolls were so delicious. We were here as a group of four and each of us had two rolls each... we put a dent in the menu fo'sho. Absolutely no complaints. This place is great.

I came here on a friend's recommendation. So glad I did! In the San Diego summer it was nice to go into a cool, dimly lit, not to mention clean, establishment. We came on Saturday for a late lunch. Warm welcome by all the staff. There were a few customers, and we chose to sit in a booth. Fun selection of specialty rolls, as well as traditional and Korean offerings. I ordered the chirashi sushi. Some of the freshest fish! I love how it wasn't served super cold, so you could taste each type of fish (no fishy taste, in case you were wondering!). The sushi rice was well seasoned, and the right temperature as well. I'm so glad it was served in the more traditional style. The slices were just a little too big; I'd recommend the same amount, just slicing a little thinner. Loved the dressing on the accompanying salad! My husband and daughter loved their rolls: Lobster Volcano, Chuck Norris, and Nori Poki. Distinct flavors and presentation. The server was super nice and had great energy. This is a place we hope to return to!

I took my little brother out for a sushi date. Service and ambiance is wonderful and the food tasted fresh and delicious. As always Sushi Nori is wonderful that's why we come back.

Got this as a quick dinner to go and it was delicious! Fish was super fresh. Would love to go back and try more rolls.

I've been on an awful restaurant kick lately. It seems any new place I want to try...well, it turns out to be awful. Sushi Nori was no different. I found this place through a local advertisement. Happy hour. Everyday. 2-5. My better half and I decided to check it out. The place is dark and the seating is tight- like the tables are really close together. The service was weird. We were greeted and offered menus. Our server took our order (2 rolls) and then vanished. We held on to a menu because we anticipated ordering more rolls. The biggest thing to note here....they absolutely do not use sushi rice. The rice in the rolls was wet and mushy. Every roll fell apart. No one came to check on us or ask us how things were. Remember, we held on to a menu because we planned on ordering more sushi, but honestly, after tasting wet, mushy rice...neither one of us had any interest. I had to flag another server down for our check. And let me tell you, he was grouchy AF. Perfect way to end a great happy hour. @@ One star. Sad face.

It's been a while since I have been to this place, before the pandemic. It was very empty for a Sunday evening, only 2 tables were in use, but it appeared there were several to go orders that were going out. Service was quick since so few clients in the building, and our servers were extremely nice and attentive to our needs. The sushi was filling and tasted great, all of the rolls were quick to come out close together too. We are definitely glad to have moved back closer for this place to be a go to sushi spot.

Love this local Japanese restaurant! I had the Unagi bowl and hubby had the spicey Korean pork entree. Both came with miso soup, and were fresh and tasty. We got tempura vegetables as an appetizer. Husband got a mackerel sushi. It was almost closing time but the service was very good and fast. The server kept checking in with us. This is our go to for Japanese/Korean nearby

My first time at Sushi Nori and I already cant wait to eat there again! My Yellow Curry Chicken entree was Delicioso! My Sister ordered a Firecracker roll and Niece plus Great Niece ordered a 911 roll and a California roll and they were All Devine! :)

She has such a warm friendly personality, and it's clear she genuinely enjoys what she does. As for the food, we like to try different rolls each time. Some of our favorites so far are the Escondido roll, Dynamite roll (definitely one of our top picks), Dragon roll, and the asparagus tempura roll. We'll sometimes add a spicy California roll too. On colder days, I love getting their miso soup or spicy tonkatsu ramen, you can even switch out the protein for an extra charge, which is a nice option. My husband usually goes for the chicken katsu curry, and I really enjoy the beef yakisoba or the teriyaki salmon. So if you're in Escondido definitely give them a try!

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't ... bad. It just wasn't really all that great either. The sushi rolls are well made and beautiful to look at, however the flavors themselves were either clashing or simply disappointing. We began with a California Roll, basic in taste and usually a good measuring stick of technique of the chefs. Here, it was clean, well rolled, and pretty tasty. It was a nice start. Then we moved onto the Golden Mountain Roll. When it hit the table, it became a testament of the care that the cooks put into making sure that what they serve looks as good as it can. The roll was deep fried, held up well under cutting, and had a meticulous drizzle over the top. I wish I had more pics of it to share. Flavorwise, it was okay. I'm not fond of cream cheese in sushi, but it had nice heat from the jalapeños, and I wish it had a bit more salt to pair along with the sweet of the crab meat and sauces. We then had a Dragon Roll, an incredibly well crafted and plated master creation that made our eyes boggle when the server placed it on the table. It was stuffed with meat, beautifully topped with ribbons of eel, avocado, and sauce, and it had perfectly proportional dragon ears at the head end of the roll. And yet, the roll itself was oddly dry and kind of flavorless. Last we tried the Tangy Mango Roll. Again, visually this was sublime. It was gorgeous and fantastically crafted. On paper, the flavors really sound like they should work. But, the cream and mango are a bit overwhelming in both taste and texture, making the roll itself more of a novelty instead of a delicious treat. In the end, I can't help but think that if we chose different fare off the menu, we probably would have had walked away with a much different opinion of Umai. With so many other sushi spots closer to home, it may be difficult to come out again with the entire family, so I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to update. Because of that, I have to say I'm stuck with a pretty slightly below average view of Umai Sushi.

Maybe we just came in on a bad day (or maybe we weren't treated well because we aren't regulars), but the service my family got was terrible. When we first got there we had to wait 15 minutes to be seated even though there were 20 empty tables and no line in front of us. Then when we were seated it took 15 more minutes just get our drink order. 2 other groups were sat after us and they immediately got water, wasabi and ginger on their tables. 10 minutes later we finally got our waters and put in our appetizers and main food order. The table behind us ordered after us and they got their appetizers inmediately within 10 minutes of them putting in their order. Then the table in front of us ALSO got their appetizers AND rolls. We had to call over a server just to ask where our miso soup was even at. 20 minutes later we finally get the soup and wings. And 15 minutes later, the rolls finally came. The other 2 tables already finished their food and were paying and we were just barely getting our food. The only thing saving this review is the food. The food was delicious and I'd say worth the price, but why were we treated so much differently than the other diners? The other 2 tables were in and out within 45 minutes and we were there almost 90. We didn't even order much - just 2 miso soups, chicken wings, and 3 rolls. That shouldn't take 1.5 hours to make. The place is clean and in a nice area but I don't think we will be returning here again.
