Sushi Sake is the closest sushi place to where I live, which is how I discovered it. Since then, my husband and I go almost weekly. It was intimidating at first with the shared table or sushi bar options, but after a couple visits it's much easier to deal with. Most of the time we sit at the sushi bar, but sometimes a table if we just come for noodles. I appreciate that the sushi chefs answer my questions every time I ask what they're making for someone. The food is amazing in every aspect. Favorite appetizer is hands down the beer asparagus rolls. They are the absolute best! The fish is always fresh & I was so excited to find inaniwa udon here, which is thinner udon noodles. If you're into sashimi - GET THE RED SNAPPER!! Sushi Sake was so good! The ambiance of the room was very cool, kinda like a trendy comfortable city restaurant. When we were seated (7 people), we were greeted with the server holding warm towelettes that smelled good. We used it to wipe our hands (good for sanitary reasons!). I really enjoyed all the sushi that we ordered, especially the Eel and Spider roll! You can actually tell the difference between different types of rolls. At some places, they just all taste the same. Also, what sets this place apart from any other restaurant is that there is a person designated just for clearing out plates (so you always have a clean good looking table) and for filling up water. So nice of them :) -The only downside was that the waiter visited our table about every 15 minutes. This didn't allow us to have a quick access to him whenever we wanted to make another order of sushi. Given that, my total time spent there was 3 hours. -Also, I just want to tell everyone that even if you are the first person at opening time, you will not get seated til your whole party is there (which is kinda annoying, but respectable). After eating at sushi buffets for so long, I kinda forgot how real sushi tasted like. Oh my goooodnesss, I absolutely lovelovelove this place! My boyfriend took us here for Valentine's day, and even though we waited for an hour to be seated, it was worth every penny. Been coming to Sushi Sake for years, and can't believe I'm just now reviewing them. Without a doubt, the best sushi in the DFW area. I've had better sushi in costal cities, but nothing close in Dallas. Fish quality is very good, especially for Dallas, and there are plenty of authentic sushi and sashimi items (I'm not one for cream cheese and mayo in sushi - just give me the fish). Some of the highlights include the aji, which is Spanish mackerel. Once you're done eating the aji sashimi, they deep fry the bones of the fish for you to eat - tasty and makes use of the whole fish. Other favorites for me is the albacore tuna, smelt roe with a quail egg on top, and mackerel nigiri. Service is also usually good. Best sushi in Dallas in my opinion, and worth the few extra $s over some other sushi places. If you like more authentic sushi, you need to check out Sushi Sake - I doubt you'll be disappointed. read more

I agree with Albert. Most sushi bars I frequent are chains with extravagant menus that are a little over the top. Most of the time there's so much added to the roll that you can barely see (or taste) the fish. Not at Sushi Sake! Sushi Sake's portions are large, filling and fresh! While the menu lacks alot of specialty rolls, what they do offer is top notch. Three main points: 1) If you drink alcohol: Do the 3 different shots of sake for $15. You can only choose from the $100+ bottles and since I would never buy a $100 bottle of sake this is a great chance to try something new! 2) Look on the chalkboard behind the sushi bar. There are some great specialty items up there (and some menu items they want to be sure you order) I fell in love with the Fried Oysters! These were so delicate that you could still taste the sea water in the oysters....not the grease the poor oyster had to soak up 3) I LOVE the atmosphere here. While this place difficult to find in the dark, it makes the journey that much more fulfilling. It feels like a hidden gem off 75 hidden in a quiet neighborhood. I sit at the sushi bar because I find the chairs more comfortable than the booths. And I strongly feel you are doing yourself a dis-service if you do not sit at the sushi bar....the chefs are very nice and friendly. I found out our chef had been making sushi in America for 35 years!! My only complaint is that the service is quick! I wish I could to stay forever! read more

However we stopped going completely bc some time ago when picking up an order to go, the staff wrote their own tip amount on the receipt (expecting me to just sign it) and when I questioned that practice was told it was a to go service fee. If I could give this place no stars I would. Our server did not serve us. I shouldn't have even tipped her at all. We went for lunch and it wasn't that busy. So I don't understand what their servers problem was. All I ever did was ask a few questions about the menu and if she could bring us a menu for alcohol. She never brought us the drink menu and ignored us most of the time. She checked on us once and that was to see if we needed the check. I ordered the goyza for an appetizer and a spicy tuna hand roll for my entree. I would've ordered more but the tuna in the hand roll tasted horrible like not good quality at all. I had to douse it with wasabi and dip it into the wasabi soy mixture I had already made. My friend got the tempura and that's it. My friend got a salad and miso soup with hers so I guess it worked out for her to where she was full. But what I don't understand is why my order didn't come with a salad and soup. Every single place I've ever been to starts you off with soup and salad. Needless to say I was extremely disappointed with this place. I will not be coming back. This place has ruined it for every other sushi spot in Richardson and I have no idea why this place has such high reviews. I think I'll just stick to Dallas sushi spots since that's where I live anyway. I only came out here because my friend lives out here but next time I'll just have her come out to Dallas because this place was absolutely horrible in every single way and there's no excuse for it. We made the reservation, ate dinner, they mentioned to have our order ready ahead of time since big party and they would call us, never called us, so we called them to place our order the day before but said they cancelled our party because we didn't place it and they had called us and left a message. They never called us or left a message!! Not to mention we still had an entire day. There was no excuse or trying to help her make up for the bday party she already planned and had booked in the back room. She asked for the manager and the person on the phone said she was the manager and then continued to make excuses and eventually hung up on my wife!! We had been regular customers at this place. Unexcusable! Horrible customer service and they don't seem to care since they have a full house all the time. The fact that they didn't even seem to care about ruining my wife's 45th birthday party and no apology and hanging up on her is just wrong. We can here late on a Wednesday and had an awesome meal. We decided to treat ourselves for completing a big project and had the otoro and sweet shrimp as well as some hand rolls in addition to the various other maki and sashimi. The otoro was ridiculously good although a bit pricey at $11 per piece. This was the best eel that I've had in a long time, perfectly prepared with no hint of fishy-ness. The mushroom soup was the coolest presentation if not the easiest to consume. The beer was cool, the service great and the food fantastic. What can I say that hasn't been said? Incredibly fresh, beautiful atmosphere (great for date night!) and attentive wait staff. The sushi chefs have been there for years and recognize if you come often. It's hard not to love this place. Don't expect rolls that are fried and covered with 20 sauces. The sushi here is clean, simple and delicious without the extras. Expect to share a table if you sit in the middle section. In the back, they have cool in-ground tables for large groups. My recommendations: Shumai (on the chalkboard of specials), Louisiana roll, rainbow roll, Spider roll and any nihri or sashimi on the specials chalkboard. Highly recommend this place! Yeah, there are lots of place to get sushi in the DFW metro area. Many are good. And many are crowded and expensive. This place - a bit off the beaten path is not as crowded and consistently good. Been there 4-5 times per year for the last 3 years and never had a bad meal or piece of fish. I must confess that I've never tried anything cooked there - save the salmon skin rolls or eel - as I never get past filling out the sheet and handing it in. I just went here again recently and the more I think about it, it's probably somewhat unfair to push this down to a 4 star just because I have had better in California. That should be expected, California is known to have the best sushi in the country, and I had it at the two best spots, SF bay and San Diego. Given that this is almost as good as some of those restaurants, but in Texas, merits a 5 star review. Additionally the most recent time I went they had these chopsticks holders that for whatever reason I decided I liked and wanted a few. So I asked, knowing that it would probably seem like a random / bizarre question but hey, what the hell? At first the waitress said no they could not, but shortly came back saying they "may have some extras", I ended up walking out with a few. This is my family's go-to spot for sushi. I can enjoy a good dragon roll or ahi tuna tower, but sometimes, all I want is fresh sashimi, and Sushi Sake delivers. The quality of fish is just incredible; if you order the salmon sashimi, ask specifically for the belly because it melts right on your tongue. My other favorites include yellowtail sashimi, niku tofu, grilled yellowtail collar, and una ju. Don't miss the aji sashimi, either. Once you finish the sashimi, they deep fry the fish bones -- so delicious! Their rolls are nothing especially creative (I've tried scallop, salmon skin, eel, volcano, and rainbow), but they're quite tasty because the fish itself is so fresh -- if you want to go the roll route, don't miss the scallop maki. When I'm in the mood to treat myself, sushi sake is probably close to the top of my list. Of all the sushi places I've tried in DFW, Sushi Sake is probably the most traditional...which I really appreciate. Instead of getting massive rolls that have been crusted in tempura flakes, filled with cream cheese, and covered with sauce, the sushi chefs here let the fish speak for themselves. Even though Dallas isn't exactly close to water, the flavor of the fish here is always bright and fresh. Their uni and torro are very good, and because they aren't located in Uptown, the prices are at least a little lower than what you'd find in the heart of Dallas. A couple things to note, this place gets busy at dinner, so depending on what time you go, you may find yourselves waiting a bit. Also, the seating arrangements are bit weird. There are several large tables that are meant for multple parties, so you may also find yourself sharing a table with some strangers. Finally, the omokase here requires 24 hrs of advance notice. I didn't realize this when I first came here, so if you want the chef's choice, give them some notice. All in all, really great place, but a few things unrelated to the food keep it at 4 stars instead of 5. read more

It's not kid friendly as there isn't option for high chair and the seating is traditional Japanese style. If you have young kids, this may not be for you. This place is definitely a hidden-gem. It's a free standing building tucked away in this dark unlit little street. While sitting at the sushi bar one of the chefs told me that even he couldn't find it at first. Me and my husband's experience was great here. Sushi is fresh, the chefs are all first-generation Japanese it seems like, decor is FAB, and service is great. What REALLY impressed me about this place is the fact that they actually put the little dollop of wasabi inside the nigirizushi. NO PLACE does that anymore in Dallas! It tastes so much better that way. It's not the same as adding it just to your soysauce. Also they give you a hand towel in the beginning. I assume that is to allow for guests to eat the sushi with their hands, just like how it's meant to be eaten, so we did just that. That goes to show how authentic they like to serve their food. This place has fantastic quality fish. I only ordered the nigiri so I can't comment on anything else. I would recommend sitting at the sushi bar at a non-busy hour because the sushi chef will take great care of you. The salmon nigiri was great quality and only $5. The sea bass nigiri was also delicious. The yellowtail was fantastic. The sushi chef informed us that they never serve previously frozen yellowtail (extremely rare for restaurants in Dallas). When we ordered a second round he offered to cut us pieces from the belly area and it was incredible. Usually yellowtail belly is much more expensive but it is the same price here. However, my friend called back and told them they forget a few orders but the chef claimed he did make those orders. Coincidentally, the two orders that they missed were the ones off the sushi menu. A bit disappointed but at the time, could of just been a mistake. Recommendation - Overall, a great place for some authentic sushi! I went here with some friends for dinner. We had to wait a bit for a table but I was told it would be worth it. I started with a Miso Soup $3.00 and the Gyoza $5.50. They were both good but nothing special. Had a large assortment of different things for dinner. Salmon Sashimi $16.00 which was okay, the quality looked good but the backs were not completely cleaned and a bit chewy. It was cut thin and molded to look like a rose which was a nice touch but not as important. Rainbow Roll $15.00 was good but nothing special. Spicy Tuna Roll $8.00 was my favorite since they use actual chunks of tuna instead of mincing it up and mixing it with a bunch of spicy mayo like most places. This is the worst experience someone can have in a restaurant. We were in a table for four people. We had only two drinks. Then one of my friends showed up and wanted to sit with us. So now we have five people and we wanted to change table. There are lots of table available for 5 or 6 people, but The owner decided not to give us any new table, we don't know why. She started behaving really badly. We had to just throw $20 on her face for those two iced tea and then leave the restaurant. She was nothing but a racist BITXX. Do yourself a favor and choose a different restaurant to satisfy your craving for genuine Japanese food. The food is definitely sub-par. The salmon skin roll barely had anything in it. The Japanese eggplant was unlike any other Japanese eggplant dish we had every tasted. This was bland and tasteless. When we asked the server to cancel the second order of eggplant (which was supposed to be to go to bring home to a family member), they refused. When asked if they could include some miso sauce with the take out eggplant, they refused again. The server was not at all accommodating and did not feel friendly or welcoming. This also goes for the management, which she said she checked with to see if this order could be either canceled or have some miso sauce added. The atmosphere was ok but there were several empty booths along the edge of the restaurant, which they said was reserved only for parties of 4. Since there were two of us, we were told to either sit at the bar or at the tables in the middle, which have no backs, no privacy, and which are back to back with other customers. There are many other wonderful restaurants in the Dallas area. We came here only because many of these are closed on Monday. Next time we will just plan to enjoy Japanese food at one of the many that are open the other days of the week. read more

This place was pretty nice. Very traditional, with warm hand towels to start and no spoons given for the miso. All very cool. Waitress wasn't that memorable, though my friends noticed that she made a face when I mentioned that me and the man beside me were "together". We only saw her twice after that, once with the food and the other with the check! The food was good. High quality sushi, and a great fish to rice ratio (anyone who has had endless sushi lunch deals knows what I'm talking about). The presentation was disappointingly modest! The pieces were put together well, but the plate looked pretty boring, just your standard pile of ginger and wasabi, and bland seaweed hidden beneath some fanned cucumber. For the price I was expecting more. Last but not least, I wanted to mention the cold sake. I've seen some reviews which said that it comes in wooden boxes and with salt. We received glass shot glasses. I dont know of it was just the particular bottle we selected, the waitress, or a change in how they serve it. I didn't ask, but if you care about it you should ask when you go there. It was a fun time, and the fish tasted great, but I think I can get a more beautiful and flavorful experience for a comparable if not smaller price. read more

What is the point of having good food but having unprofessional employees with the utmost worst work ethic. I'm in from out of town a was told that this place was where you go for good quality sushi. But unbeknownst to me, someone at the establishment STOLE MY CREDIT CARD INFORMATION and charged over $100 in Uber fairs. I called the police and called the restaurant to lodge a complaint with general manager, but he was of no help. If you are the owner of this restaurant and you read this, just know that I have filed a police report and will be telling EVERYONE I know about it. Completely unacceptable, unprofessional and not to mention COMPLETELY CRIMINAL. I will never want to eat here again. You employ thieves and a GM who is naive and completely incompetent. UPDATE: I received a call from the general manager, and he had the decency to tell me that "I asked the server if she stole your information, and she said no. I have no reason not to believe her." Then he had the nerve to blame ME, saying that it was my fault someone at his restaurant stole my credit card information. Fucking unbelievable. Instead of even actually investigating the situation, all the did was ask the server and take her word for it. Did he honestly think she would come clean about it? Even if it wasn't her, someone there stole my credit card information and the general manager didn't give two shits about it.
