Tried this place for the first time with my boyfriend because we were craving sushirritos but the restaurant closer to us was closed. I had the B1 and my boyfriend decided to make his own. He actually went in to get them while I waited in the car so I did not see the inside of the place. The B1 was delicious and tasted very similar to the one I get closer to my home, my boyfriends was also very tasty. We enjoyed them but came to the conclusion that they were not worth the 25 minute ride, especially because my boyfriend told me that they use cheap ingredients and some of the ingredients in the description of the B1 werent even included so it was innaccurate. I think the only highlight of this place is that you can make your own, but i'll just keep going to the one much closer to me. read more

I've tried B1, 3, 7, and 8. I'm leaning towards the 1 & 7 because of the crab. The 8's salmon would've benefited from more sauce touching it, but that's my personal opinion. I didn't notice any tamago in it--not that it needs it, but if you list it, I want to see/taste it :X You should bring a friend so that you can trade halves since they cut them for you. This way you can try a different flavor and not be bored with what you picked. My main complaints are parking and the ceiling fans. The latter because I felt like I was going to have a seizure due to the flickering dim lighting. Plan on taking it to go if this sounds like something that would bother you! Pretty average sushi burrito. I got the spicy tuna and ahi and the ahi had lots of tendon in it. Pretty tasty but the seaweed that they use doesn't hold together well and is kind of hard to bite through so the burrito ends up all over the place. I was initially intrigued by the build your own burrito because you can add as many sides as you want in but it didn't really enhance the burrito. I wish they had some more crunchy ingredients to help break up the mush. Perhaps the preset burritos are better but for the money you're better off elsewhere. read more

I had a very good experience! I built my own sushi burrito for $10. You get to choose 2 meats, any sauces, and as many sides as you want. I loved the meat options, which included: raw scallop, ahi tuna, spicy tuna, salmon, shrimp tempura. Sushi Secrets is a new sushi restaurant in downtown Berkeley. As my girlfriend and I love sushi we decided to give this place a try. First, the sushi here is not traditional. Most of the menu offerings are "sushi burritos," essentially large hand rolls with 4 or 5 ingredients. The rolls themselves were very tasty. The ingredients were fresh and the various combinations worked well together. Given the price ($8 a roll), the rolls were a little small, but were still filling enough for a light lunch. Also, it was clear they are still working out the kinks. It probably took 15 minutes to get 2 rolls. Based on the feel of the establishment, I was expecting a bit shorter of a wait. Overall, however, when I'm in the mood for non-traditional Asian, I will consider returning to Sushi Secrets. read more

I've been to Sushirrito in SF and Sushi Secrets is a great lunch spot that makes the same wrap/burrito-style sushi. Sushi Secrets though offers much more customization and is a great deal - pick 2 mains, 3 additions, and as many sauces as you'd like for $9. I wanted to get the B6 but was told that there was no hamachi available today. So I got the B2 (tempura unagi, tamago, cucumber, garlic chips, shaved cabbage, carrots with a spicy sriracha aioli and anago sauce), while my sister got the B8 (salmon, tamago, cucumber, cabbage, carrot, corn, lotus chips with honey avocado, mango aioli and anago aioli sauces) and added crab to it. They were very generous with the salmon in the B8 but pretty skimpy on the unagi in the B2. Both were delicious and very filling but there was a TON of imitation crab. I really like imitation crab but I could see it being a bit overwhelming if that's not your thing. To be honest I couldn't really taste either the garlic chips or the lotus chips either. Compared to Sushirrito in San Francisco, the seaweed was slightly soggier. Quick, fast option for lunch on Shattuck right near the Berkeley BART station. I have been here numerous times and I think yesterday will be my last. I usually order my normal B2-Unagi. Half of my sushi burrito seemed to be missing the unagi and there is not a good proportion of the other ingredients. The imitation crab meat filled up half of it and taking a big bite out of it just made me want to barf. I also usually ask for corn in my burrito, I've asked numerous times and never given any the previous times I've gone, so I decided one last time and ask. Keep in mind it has only been open a week... Food was good. I had the B1 and it was pretty tasty and super filling. Definitely a have half now and half later lunch - which is awesome. The flavors were great and I love the sauces. So much better than the "eh" sushi that I have gotten from Seasons of Japan (5 doors away). 2 stars off for the cashier having a bloody bandage on her finger that was clearly bleeding through a lot and not wearing any gloves. I got a B7. I don't know why it says "fry roll". Nothing in it was fried, and the "spice salmon tartare" tasted like regular old plain cold salmon chunks. The rest of the ingredients came from the same cold trays of stuff that the rest of the menu items are comprised of--veggies, carrots, etc. The first bite was great. The next bite was pretty much pure sauce--way too much, and way too strong. I never thought I'd wish for more rice in a sushi roll, but the sauce was overwhelming. That and the excessive cheese made the whole roll seem way too heavy and creamy. I got through half of the thing and gave the rest to a friend before going home to make myself a more satisfying lunch. This place has a good idea and good customer service, but the reflective take out cases are really not appealing and the sushi needs better construction. It was my second time trying their sushi and the proportions of ingredients were completely different from the first time around (way less crab and veggies and way more sauce and cheese this time.) I love the idea of a sushi burrito, since I'm all about giant rolls of rice. I have to say, though, the execution of the food here fell a little flat, though the rest of my experience was great. I ordered a B3 and B8 for delivery. I ordered two burritos to make up the delivery minimum--that was my mistake, as I was pleasantly surprised to find that one burrito left me fairly full--and both had fresh tasting ingredients and nicely composed flavors. The delivery also came really fast! And my delivery person was very nice and polite. So that was all good. But it was immediately apparent that poor rice-to-filling ratio and even poorer sauce-to-filling ratio made those nice flavors and ingredients hard to pick up. I felt the roll was drowning in their sauce, which was sweetsweetsweet and not at all what I hope to be the dominant flavor in a sushi roll. All the rice (and the rice layer was thick) was soaked with sauce. Finishing each half neatly was difficult because the bottom of the roll would be soggy and falling apart into the paper wrapping. Yuck. I liked the choice of fillings a lot, and I thought the quality of the sashimi was good, and the price is not bad for sushi--but the sauce problem just ruins the food for me. I might try this place again sometime, but only if I have my own sushi rice prepared to replace the wet (and sugary sweet?!) rice they have. Turning the roll into my own chirashizushi bowl sounds...like way too much work though for a meal I bought...so scratch that, it's not likely I'll eat here again. read more

I thought the sushi burritos I had were decent. First time I went, I got the B3 and B7 like yelp people suggested, and the second I customized my own. My customized burrito was delicious. I had salmon & spicy tuna, spicy mango, unagi and avocado sauce, sweet potato, egg, cabbage and cream cheese topping. I hate that they put corn in some burrito, so next time I go I'll definitely customize mine again. Get the takoyaki. They're DELICIOUS. So I walked in and was like where is Tea Leaf? I want some crispy chicken! I was in for a GREAT SURPRISE. This new shop Sushi Secrets is like Sushiritto but CLOSER, CHEAPER, better rolled, and just straight up BETTER! I had B3 Chichibun, it was a good size, the fish was fresh, the serving size wasn't too big, there wasn't too much rice, the nori was high quality, the sauce was ORGASMIC and the vegetables were crisp and delicious -which is amazing in itself since I don't normally like raw vegetables, just tells you how great that sauce is though! SERIOUSLY, that sauce...they have several kinds, but the toasted Spicy Shiracha and Anago were probable my favorite. A great feature of this restaurant is that it's kind of like Subway or Chipotle, the chef will double the amount of anything you want in your sushi burrito, which is great because I really enjoy raw salmon, so I got extra of that and there is NO EXTRA CHARGE! I love me a good deal because that starving student life is so real right now. After eating here, I don't feel like I'm dying of malnutrition from eating too many instant ramen. FRESH VEGETABLES?! Those are things I don't normally eat because I just love me some preservatives and y'know I'm a broke Berkeley student. So, I'm very glad I can get taste, nutrition, AND convenience from this place. You would think that it would end up tasting weird combining all three fish, fruits, and sauces, BUUUUUT, no. Each layer has a distinct flavor. Each sauce compliments the fish and fruit pairing and really brings out the flavor notes in both. I also enjoyed the difference in textures as the supple strawberries, firm mango chunks, and crisp cucumber were something to delight in just as much as the fresh fish.
