I'm a student at BCC so sushi secrets is one of my go to spots for lunch. (If possible I would recommend to avoid the afternoon lunch rush because many college students go there as well 12~1). So far I've only had their sushi burrito because it's my go to. I customize my own burrito to my liking but one item I would highly recommend is the fried shrimp for your protein. It adds crispy texture, warmth, and overall flavor 10/10 would recommend. The service is great and friendly. Hard to find parking, so many people walking around, traffic, I mean it was PACKED everywhere. SOOOO we went to Berkeley instead, closer to home, and less busy/packed. We parked on the street and surprisingly, they weren't busy and it was still lunch time. The workers there were very nice and their service is fast. I got the B8 (Salmon, homemade tamago, cucumber, cabbage, carrot, sweet corn, lotus chips. Sauce: honey avocado aioli, mango aioli and anago aioli) and my bf got the B2 (Tempura unagai, homemade tamago, surimi crab, house marinated cucumber, Japanese garlic chips, shaved cabbage, julienne carrots. Sauce: toasted spiced sriracha aioli and anago sauce) which were both delicious and tasty! We love spicy mayo on our sushi and I was happy that they had some! They cut the sushiritto into 2 pieces, which is a great serving size, not too little and not too much. You can even customize which is great if you're a picky eater. The atmosphere is very casual, not fancy at all, compared to your average sushi restaurants. I have no reason to rate this place any less than 5 stars. First off, they don't open until noontime on Saturdays. We got to the restaurant at 11:30am and started ordering without realizing they weren't even open. It wasn't until I opened the yelp app to check in that I noticed that we were totally early. But they never mentioned to us once that they were still closed (before I asked) or turned us away to come back when they actually did open. So great customer service! Secondly, they have a build-your-own option. Sushi wraps/burritos have become extremely popularized. But this restaurant has their very own style that sets them apart from other competitors! Sushi lovers will love this place, as they have great selection in their sushi burritos and sashimi selection. As a fan of Sushiritto in SF, I definitely had to come by this new shop that opened up in Berkeley so I went with my girlfriend and some friends. The staff was very friendly and were very helpful in helping us decide what to get since they all looked so good! Personally, I got the B8. the Hokushita. It has salmon, homemade tamago, cucumber, cabbage, carrot, sweet corn, lotus chips with honey avocado aioli and mango and anago aioli. The sushi burrito was pretty good, but it felt like mine had too much sauce. I tried bites of the other burritos of what my party ordered and I found I liked theres better! In comparison to Sushiritto, this is a great alternative. I feel like the quality of Sushiritto has declined over the years, especially since they give more rice than fish. However, both places have their differences in menus. I also tried their Black Potted Cow Tea and I thought it was really good. It also had a very cute design because it looked exactly like you would expect... like a potted plant! I would definitely come back here again and would have rated it higher if not for the lack of seating and the flies flying everywhere in the back of the establishment. I came here on a Friday evening around 8:30 PM. We took a while investigating the menu, because the selection was so great! We ordered: -B3 // Good amount of sushi, but I felt sick eating the fish. Not sure if it's the combination of food that made be sick, or because the fish has been sitting out too long? -B1 // Very americanized flavor, good for the tastebuds. Has a strong flavor of crab and sweet corn. -Popcorn chicken // Very very mediocre. Cheap, but not the crunch I was hoping. But at least it wasn't crusted with flour! -Ahi Tuna Poke Salad // Refreshing, but too much sauce for my liking. Good amount of fish and not a bad portion size for one person. -6 piece takoyaki // Hot, but too doughy for my liking. But there are big pieces of octopus inside the center, so kudos to that! It had a good amount of fish and not an overly large amount of rice which was nice. We got this with the milk tea combo for $10.99 which is pretty reasonable. The jasmine milk tea was pretty good. My favorite was the takoyaki. We got 3 pieces for $2.99. They were cooked really well and filled with deliciousness! Very tasty little balls, I'd definitely recommend this. Based on other reviews of this place, I expected sushi secrets to be a good place for a quick take out dinner. We ordered the B3, B8, the tuna poke, tako balls, and milk teas. The rolls were ok, not what we had expected, especially in regards to B8. It was awfully sweet and didn't really taste good. The B3 was slightly better but not by much. All the filling fell out after 3 bites! The milk teas tastes just like the Quickly's that last occupied this space (which is why I'm giving two stars instead of a one). Although I would've added boba to my drink too, if I had known they had boba. The biggest irk for me was the cashier guy, who had a difficult time explaining what a cow potted tea was! I mean really, if you saw that on the menu, I'm sure you would've asked too! There were cow potted tea variations but it just wasn't clear what the differences were... The guy was impatient and unfriendly which was unnecessary, especially since we were the only customers in the store. Lastly, when he handed over our order, we realized he didn't even put in the tako balls, even though we paid for it. I've had sushiritto in SF and I have to say in addition to the better hours, this place is cheaper. But I would have to say they are pretty similar in quality taste. I just prefer this place because not only is it open longer, but it's way more accessible. I can drive over or walk over from the bart and not have to worry about parking. Best part is they're open until 8 or 9PM! So happy about this because Sushiritto in the city closes at 3PM on weekdays. I ordered the B3, which included crab. It was amazing. It costs $7.99, which is what most of the other sushi rolls cost. The only thing was it easily fell apart, so I wish I ate it on a plate with a fork. Otherwise, it was definitely worth it. We took it to go and they packaged it in the most adorable take-out boxes. I got a silver box, which I loved. There are plenty of seats to sit if you decided to eat in. But my friends and I wanted to take it to go just to see the cute to-go boxes. They accept card, except Discover, so you don't need to worry about bringing cash. The employees are very friendly & they did a great job of serving us and ringing us up. Located in the heart of downtown Berkeley, I came here because it was nearby the Shattuck Cinema (2 blocks away) & it's also a block or so away from the Berkeley bart station. This restaurant is basically the same as Sushiritto (closes at 3 pm) but offers more selection. I don't frequent Berkeley that often, but it was my first time here. I asked the guy behind the counter what he would recommend and my friend and I ended up ordering B8 ($8.99) and B2 ($7.99). Hurrah! Salmon and unagi!! B2 was great, but I would recommend ordering extra unagi since it seemed like there was so little of it. If I HAD to come back again, I'd order this one! B8 was a bit disappointing for both my friend and I. I'm not sure why, but just staring at it kinda scared us a little. I feel as though it lacked some tasty flavor but I guess if you're into raw fish (not so much for me), this is okay. I also ordered a "crisp potted cow tea" ($3.70). When ordering this, I did not know what I ordered. I thought it was a dessert with smashed Oreos and yogurt, and boy was I wrong - it was a drink (but maybe I should've paid more attention to the menu).. When ordering this, you can choose between black or jasmine tea and I ordered jasmine. The drink was a disappointment since it wasn't what I thought it was but if you're into jasmine tea, you should order it because you can definitely taste the jasmine. I felt as though you can hardly taste the "dirt" inside and ONLY cold, watered down jasmine. After my previous review, the owner messaged me explaining that in light of the recent reviews, they decided to increase the amount of sashimi in the burritos. He offered me a burrito and drink on the house as an incentive to come see the change. Since my only gripe with Sushi Secrets was the lack of salmon, I was pretty pleased with my burrito this time around. The potted milk tea certainly put to rest all my sugar cravings too. If it wasn't pricey, I'd probably consider stopping by just for it. And as I got my togo box, the owner mentioned I could always come and ask for more sashimi the next time around if I still wasn't satisfied. Bonus points! But I don't think that will be necessary. What a gem for sashimi lovers! Sushi Secrets has taken over what used to be Tea Leaf (what used used to be Tapioca Express) on that stretch of Shattuck that has basically every food shop you could ever want. I first noticed this shop thanks to its cute bear/seal mascot holding a sushi hand roll. Points for kawaii-ness I was, overall, impressed by the friendliness, presentation, and quality of food at this establishment. You walk in and order from the sushi chef at the front; they create and pass your roll down to the cashier who hands you the beautiful creation that is a sushi burrito. If you eat in, they give you a basket with the roll cut and artfully stacked. If you take it to go, you get this cute silver paper box that has a handle convenient for walking. I ordered the B3 because it has the most fish (salmon & tuna), and it was the winning combination of fresh vegetables, rice, seaweed, and sashimi. There was actually a good amount of fish (looks like they took Karen P.'s words to heart - PS. Hey roomie!), but it was not fishy or overwhelming like eating a whole Chirashi bowl can be (I've been there). I would actually contend that there is less rice padding than the rolls at Sushirrito, which is great for those deal-seekers. I'm sure we've all wrote/said "is-this-really-worth-the-price", and for this place, I say YES! With the grand opening discount, I paid $6.86 including tax for my roll (which normally is $7.99) and they even threw in a sticker. You can also get a 15% discount by checking in on Yelp (I'm sure you already knew that since you're on this page). The employees were so friendly and polite too, working quickly to get my meal made. If you're in the mood for something different, Sushi Secrets is a decent place to come to. It's pretty easy to order. You can either choose to get a pre-specified sushiritto or you can customize it. I really appreciated that I could customize since I'm allergic to some of the ingredients and you can stuff your shushiritto with tons of additional veggies. The workers can also tell you if your combination of sauces will taste good or if you're creating a future tragedy (thanks for the help!). The taste was good and did the job of filling me up, which was all I was really looking for. I really wouldn't recommend saving leftovers for later since there's raw fish. I can't say that the experience was mindblowing enough for me to go out of my way to come back often. It was so delicious! The flavor ratios worked so well together and complemented each other well. I asked for more wasabi aioli because I wanted more spicy flavor, and the manager recommended trying the kimchi aioli. It was spicy and super bomb - definitely getting it in my sushirrito next time. I brought in a boba drink, and the manager gave me a complimentary potted cow tea, saying that their drink was going to be better. It was. :) I will definitely come back again! I had really high expectations for this because I thought it would be the cheaper version of sushiritto in SF, but I had the worse experience ever. It was definitely NOT worth my $8-9 bucks. First of all, the wait here is soooo long! It took over 30 minutes for me to get my order. Apparently, they have online orders and in-store customers and there are only 2 workers. One of them was trying to work fast, but the other staff was super slow! And talk about sanitation. The area where they prepare the food was messy and not clean and while waiting in line, I was debating whether or not I should just leave. For the actual food itself, I had the custom sushi burrito and added everything that I wanted. Maybe I was already disappointed, but I did not enjoy my burrito and the raw fish was not fresh and had a weird smell. In the end, I only ate half of it. For my personal order, I got a burrito with crab, cabbage, avacado, cream cheese and spicy mayo. The crab is imitation but it was all mixed up so I still really liked it. I know, I pretty much for a giant California roll hahah but it was still really good! I can't speak on the raw fish side but my order was good and it was filling. My boyfriend chose a burrito off the menu and though he liked the raw fish he didn't like it overall and wish he custom made his instead. They also serve milk teas and such. The menu says that it has cheese surimi crab, lotus chip, cream cheese, avocado, shrimp tempura, julienne carrots, tobiko, house marinade cucumber, burned sesame, and toasted garlic aioli and anago aioli. The sushi burrito itself is a big thing- I usually eat half and save the half for a later meal and priced nicely ($8.71 after tax!) The B1 itself has a lot of surimi crab and red cabbage (they forgot to include that in the menu, I guess!) and not enough tempura or avocado (hence, the -1 star). It tastes delicious though if you're a fan of California rolls! I also tried their potted cow jasmine milk tea. It's a jasmine milk tea with crushed oreos and a mint leaf on top. The tea itself is great and the boba is great too, but I feel like it's a bit overpriced for what it is. The concept is really cute though! Working a block away from Sushiritto in the City, I was excited to try Sushi Secrets and the similar style of food. Upon visiting, I was pleased with the taste but I think I'd prefer Sushiritto over Sushi Secrets. The flavor is good and it's fun to eat sushi in this inventive way. However, I must admit that my friend and I both had terrible stomach aches after eating here... I think I would give this place a 3.5/5 stars. Basically, this thing is a super fat sushi roll, or a sushi burrito, which sounds SUPER COOL. Basically, you walk in and tell the counter what kind of roll you want, or what kind of ingredients you want in your customized roll. They then make the roll in front of you and you're good to go. My only complaint is that they do not have a list ingredients for you to see. In my opinion, compared to Sushiritto, this place puts a lot more of the "other stuff" and doesn't put as much sashimi and filling into the burrito. There's also a lot of sauce, to the point that it's overwhelming. The raw fish tastes pretty fresh, but I felt like there wasn't enough of it. Surprisingly delicious. We weren't sure what to expect, especially since the last sushiritto copy cat place pretty much sucked. It really makes you understand why a sushi burrito is the most genius thing ever and question why more places don't do it. First, they have this cool maki master machine that lays the rice flat. It's really fascinating. Then you can choose 2 proteins, 3 sauces, and unlimited other add-ins such as egg, cream cheese, sweet potato, cabbage, and carrots. I had the crab and salmon and was not disappointed. I was worried it would taste days old. After all, how else could it be just $10? But it actually tasted great! The portions are huge too! I could only finish half of mine. This is all even better when you realize they deliver for free in Berkeley after 5 PM. Wonderful experience at sushi secrets! Got a B3 which was great, and added wasabi paste. The potted cow milk tea was delicious but def didn't look like all the pics and didn't come with the mint leaf :( the oreo crumbs sank almost immediately. I personally love this place, this is my second time trying this place. You can build your own sushirito, which is cool or choose from the pre built menu already if u purchase a sushirito you can add a milk tea for $1 more $9.99. I also tried the Poki salad. So bomb. Fish tastes fresh. The only downside honestly is the music they played and the lighting. It's a little bit off but food wise it's amazing! read more

Friendly staff! I got the B2 (tempura unagi, homemade tamago--egg, surimi crab, house marinaded cucumber, Japanese garlic chips, shaved cabbage, julienne carrots, and toasted spice shiracha and anago sauce). It was SO good. It was neatly rolled and sliced into two halves, and it had the right amount of crunch throughout from the veggies and tempura. Loved the sauces, slightly sweet with a hint of spice that wasn't overwhelming. I had to try the potted cow jasmine milk tea, which was okay, I mostly just liked it for the creativity in the presentation --Oreo cookies are the "soil", and they add a mint leaf as the "plant". A little over $7 for the burrito which I will for sure get another time. I wouldn't pay $4 for the cow milk tea again though. read more

Place is kind of slow and not many customers for some reason. I went on a Saturday at 2pm. The number of customers there and the food quality was by no means proportional. Let me just say, this was my first sushi burrito and I enjoyed every bite of it. I wanted salmon and sweet, didn't care for spicy and I talked to the staff and he was very helpful in recommending me to get the B8 which had salmon, tamago, corn, cabbage and a sweet honey aioli sauce. I also added shrimp tempura to it for extra $2. The texture, flavor and crunchiness of the burrito was....So yummy! In fact I was anticipating that it would fall apart, but they make it rolled up tightly and it never fell apart. This is my new favorite type of food! I will definitely try a few more places in the Bay Area, but as my first impression of sushi burritos, this place does it right! Fast service too by the way. And they have a combo deal for $10.99 includes a milk tea. read more

I thought the idea of sushi burritos was a little bit weird at first, but I ended up really enjoying my burrito here! I ordered B4 (the vegetarian one); it was so good. Lots of veggies that made me feel healthy. It still tasted like sushi, despite the lack of fish. Every bite was different--potatoes, carrots--my favorite part was finding the walnut pieces inside. I actually haven't eaten here--this is more a review on the people that work here. My friend and I were using a table outside, and one of the workers there came outside and gave us free milk tea! It was very delicious and had cookie crumbles, yumm. Later on that afternoon when we were being silly and taking selfies, one of the workers jokingly asked me to take a picture of him as well. I'll definitely be back for the tea, if not for the sushi and the amazing/happy atmosphere! :) I wish them much luck in their future endeavors. read more
