I recently ordered the James Tower (a sushi bowl) and Philly. The Tower came with stuffed jalepenos on a panko bed for free. That was kind of weird to get with sushi but whatever. I ate a couple and they were spicy! But I didn't love them (my husband ate the rest and hooted and hollered about how yummy they were, tho.) The Philly was between OK and good. Not great, but it'll do. And the James Tower bowl was not what I had expected (it used to be an actual roll and now it's turned in to a bowl). Not bad, Not bad. The "Spicy Edamame" has to be the most spicy I have had in San Antonio. I ordered the "Elvis Roll" and it was pretty darn good. I don't know if it was shredded imitation or real crab meat on top but it was good. I always have wasabi with my sushi. The wasabi they served up was less than par. Usually when I order sushi there is always wasabi on the plate. You have to ask for wasabi to be brought to the table. They didn't have hard copy menus, only QR codes. If you have an iPhone your menu will have pics of the items to order. The venue is tucked away on a small strip that you will miss if you didn't know it was there. Great service and a nice outdoor seating area. I give the food a 3 and everything else a 5 so averaging to 4. The calamari appetizer is was quite large and unique. It had a bit of spice on its own but the tangy dipping sauce was spicier. I recommend this dish. I had the ole roll, which you can get with crawfish or scallops. I didn't love it. I would not get this one again if though it was fine. The Philadelphia special roll was enjoyed by 1 kid along with a good sized bowl of miso soup. Kid 2 had the spider roll and the sushi 7 roll. The spider roll didn't look like any of the spider rolls I've ever seen, but he ate it and enjoyed it. The sushi seven roll is named after the restaurant so he definitely wanted to try it. It was large and presented nicely. It is a deep fried very filling roll. Quite a mild flavor, so I'd recommend it for someone who doesn't like raw fish. My husband always orders Chirashi bowls anywhere he goes and though the fish was fresh, he didn't like the rice because it wasn't sushi rice but rather plain steamed white rice. My husband and I stopped by Copa Wine Bar but they were not opened so we looked for other options and found Sushi Seven. So glad we found Sushi Seven. We used to eat here regularly but stopped when COVID hit. We decided to try this again tonight. For $120 I expected more. The tempura udon noodles had barely any noodles wasn't enough for my 6 year old. Calamari came out of a bag it was dry and tasted freezer burnt. The sushi was ok. I've eaten at the restaurant before and have been very impressed with the presentation and quality of the sushi. This review has pictures only from the delivery I received. I was most impressed with how tight the rolls were made and the freshness of the ingredients. I've had a few rolls fall apart on me from other restaurants, but these stayed together well, even after dipping them in some ponzu sauce. They provide plenty of wasabi, ginger, ponzu sauce, and soy sauce with the order, which I appreciated. I got the rainbow roll (my favorite) with fresh salmon and yellowtail sashimi this time and was happy with the large portions. The shrimp tempura was delicious but a little soggy, it's probably better in the restaurant than for delivery. We also tried the Spicy Crab Temaki Fried, which delivered on both spice and taste and did not lose crunchiness in the delivery. I was a repeat customer, many dozens of times. It was my go-to Sushi place. One day that all changed, when an angry aggressive woman left in change was beyond rude to my teen daughter, prompting her to cry. She ordered to-go with her own money, and after 30 minutes for a simple Philadelphia Roll, she requested a refund so we could leave. Calamari was quite greasy. Teriyaki chicken was very dry, asked for more teriyaki sauce and it helped. James tower was good, flavorful. Squid & seaweed salad was very small portion and had two squid pieces! Poke bowl was good and appropriate size. The Katsu Don was awful. The pork breading did not stay on and was soggy and tasteless. I can't get enough of this place! The food is always great and so delicious! I went twice this week with my girlfriends, we all love there here! This time I had to change my selections, because I am on a special diet (doctor orders) and I asked them if they could make some changes in the food I wanted and they were so understanding, they made every change I requested! The fried rice wasn't traditional asian fried rice as it was pretty thick rice and had squash and bell peppers in it. Seemed more like a mexican fusion dish. I was craving salmon sashimi the day I went here, it was hard for me to decide what I wanted but I choose the Poke bowl because I figured I would get more fish that way than with the sashimi, which seemed to work out. The fish was fresh and good flavor. The choices that you get to add it are minimal with out having to pay extra for them, for example a coupe slices of Avocado was an additional $3, I also asked for an eel sauce to be put on it and it was not added. I didn't notice until I got to the house with it. I didn't dine in so I can't really judge the service of wait staff, the lady working the to wasn't to charming though. I ran in and grabbed my food so I can rate the ambiance either. It is a smaller place with not a lot of seating. read more

I got the shrimp tempura poke bowl with spicy mayo and it was good but next time I'll probably request the sauce be on the side because it was a bit too spicy for my taste. I didn't try the sushi rolls but my boyfriend enjoyed it and he thought the sweet plantain paring gave it a nice balance between sweet and savory. I will say it can be a bit overpriced. I asked for avocado on my poke bowl and the waitress told me it was $3, I thought that was extensive so I told her never mind. As you can see on the picture, they still put avocado, but I decided to just let it be, however, I will not be paying $3 for avocado ever again. I can buy a full one for cheaper at H-E-B. Holy. Smokes. I have been to this small Japanese grubbery about 5X now. Just down the street from my office, it makes for a quick and extremely satisfying lunch spot. Believe me when I say I've left here satisfied, ok well, over-stuffed! each and every time. Yum! Their tempura is AMAZEBALLS and their miso soup is hands down the best miso soup I've had. Now, we all know that bowls of fermented soy paste (im pretty sure that's what miso is...?) are NOT created equal. We've tasted instant, tasteless blech with those, you know, reconstituted tiny cubes of "tofu", but hear me say this loud and clear - - if you love miso soup, you will enjoy this bowl. First off, it's a pretty good sized bowl, served in ceramic no less and it's full to the brim, not to mention chock full with large cubes of delightful tofu, green onion and seaweed. I have to keep from finishing the whole bowl or I'll scarcely make a dent in my lunch. This place has got a lunch menu - - ask for it if they don't bring it to you. There are several bento boxes I like to entertain, but you've gotta check it out for yourself! Oh! And Sushi Seven earns a bonus star for carrying Inari sushi! I've never found it in Texas until now. This place is a great marriage of mexican ingredients and traditional sushi rolls. My group and I really enjoyed our entire meal here. The calamari was fresh and crispy, accompanied by a spicy (mexican) sauce. We tried 4 rolls: rainbow roll, dragon deluxe, mango special, habanero roll and finally, yaskimeshi veggie rice. The order of amazing to average taste: dragon deluxe, habanero roll, rainbow, then mango special. The yakimeshi was really delicious! Flavorful without being salty. The ambience is cozy. We really enjoyed our lunch. And although the meal totaled to nearly $90, this place is definitely on our list to return. We had just ate at Sushi Zushi the week before so that comparison was fresh on our mind. We ordered three rolls. The Monkey, Marlyn Monroll, and the Mango Special. They were delivered in about 15 minutes. Sensational. Each had very distinct flavors even though they were tenpora based. Plantains, strawberry, mango topping on the respective rolls. It was hard to pick a favorite. My secret to eating sushi is to eat one, put down the chop sticks, sit back, drink a little water and try another. Sounds intuitive right? It was hard to do that this time. The rolls were so fresh and tasty. I wanted to skewer the whole roll with my chopstick and eat it like an ice cream. We both finished with almost a toll left between us. I can't leave sushi on the table. It just ain't right. So I skewered the rest and was miserable for about an hour. So worth it. Another wonderful date night. I am partial to sushi. So I like to check out the various sushi hangouts. This one was a delight! Even during covid times! The service was wonderful. I believe Carla was our waitress. She was very sweet and very accommodating. She gave us suggestions on her favorite rolls (I love asking the servers what their preferences are!). They have a wonderful selection of specialty rolls, traditional rolls, sashimi and nigiri...as well as soups and other plates. Their menu is impressive! It will take me a long time to work through all they have to offer! And they are LARGE rolls!! I am partial to all things fresh. So I really enjoyed the Hiko roll when I want to have less carbs. The Kiurimaki roll was wonderfully fresh and tasty even with rice. I was informed that they will accommodate for any roll on their menu to be made without rice (it is a $2 up charge, but well worth it!) My husband and I like a bit of a kick to our rolls as well...so the habanero roll was delicious! I was not a fan of the spicy tuna rice crunchy. I am not partial to crunchy rice in that form, however the tuna and avocado separated was delicious. The prices are average for sushi. $9-14 rolls. As previously stated, they are large rolls! Definitely 2 bites worth for me! They do have a wide selection at various prices for other menu items. Beverages, I enjoyed the hot jasmine tea. Yum!! And my husband enjoyed their cold green tea...also very delicious!! The ambience was very nice and laid back. It has outdoor seating for nice weather meals. We ordered curbside which we wouldn't normally do with sushi but I had a bad craving so we chanced it. I was happily surprised that it was so delicious. We ordered the San Antonio roll, sushi seven roll and the jalapeño special. The jalepeno special was by far our favorite. Everything was at the correct temperature. (Not cold) The rice was sticky yet not too sweet and had the perfect texture. I absolutely love that there are so many different sauces to choose from. I especially loved the Serrano mayo. Sushi Seven is tucked into a busy plaza off Stone Oak, but inside is an oasis of clean lines and fresh fish! Initially went in for their Chirashi bento box lunch special ($13 with soup, salad, tofu, cali roll) but ended up upgrading to the full-size Chirashi ($16) and using the Yelp check-in offer for a free miso soup. Sat at the bar, which is made with natural wood accented with live bamboo plants. Staff were friendly, food was up quickly. Miso soup was huge, and the chirashi had so much fish that I lost count: tuna, super white, yellow tail, salmon, shrimp, tako, eel, tamago, everything you'd usually expect, photogenically presented and super fresh. I was more than full when I left, and with tax/tip my total was right at $20, which is a pretty good deal. I'll likely be back to try some of their rolls, as the menu is creative and extensive, with riceless, non-fish, tower presentation, and a variety of hand rolls available. This was my last time eating at Seven sushi. I have tried to give them the benefit of the doubt until today. Each time my rolls have been made with pre-made, old, non-fresh ingredients that have bruised or brown spots. Today, the crawfish dynamite was warmed up (not fresh) in a foil in there convectional oven and full of grease. I could not eat it, it was mostly oil and mayo. Each time I've been here, the chef was eating while he was preparing my food. (There were 3 different men each time). The chef today 4.29.24 did not acknowledge me when walking in. After I stood there waiting for a few minutes he said, Yeah?, while restaurant is empty. It's very sad that I spent over $30.00 dollars only to enjoy the miso soup. My husband and I ordered for pick up (due to Covid right now), and the only positive thing we have to say about this place is that service was good and the food was prepared rather fast for pick up. We ordered a salmon don, Japanese curry, and a spicy scallop handroll. My husband was extremely disappointed in the salmon don; the "sushi" rice tasted like regular rice, not like how sushi rice is normally supposed to be seasoned/prepared. The biggest disappointment was how thin the salmon sashimi slices were cut. I think the carrots in my curry were thicker than the salmon. My spicy scallop handroll wasn't a handroll, but rather a cut roll. I guess I can understand when ordering over the phone and not being able to hear, but the girl taking our order repeated HANDroll. Also, the same problem with the rice on this roll too; does not taste like sushi rice at all. The only thing I can say about the curry was that it was decent. I just wish it came with some pickled radish or a small salad. We probably won't come back here. The quality was definitely not worth the price we paid. read more
