The Rainbow roll is my golden classic it is simple yet flavorful with little to no extra seasoning, and it had to be the best one I have had in a long time. The "Toro'ko Special".....I won't ruin or spoil the surprise, our waitress said that this is their best one. I have to strongly concur with that statement. It is packed with flavor! (Fair Oaks Ranch) Visited this new location on a Wednesday and it was packed! They just opened and I want to give them grace, they are still working through their service delivery. We sat at the bar and felt more tended to so we weren't upset, but several folks left canceling their orders because the food took a while. Aside from that the food was delicious! Great experience! I was out with my daughter and she wanted sushi for lunch, so I had her find one that looked appealing to her and she found Toro'Ko Sushi. All she wanted was a California doll but ended up getting the kids' Bento: chicken teriyaki with rice, 2 PCs of fried gyoza, fried cheese balls, and fruit. It's a normal meal for her and she truly enjoyed it. She was too full to eat her California Roll so we took it home. I had a crunchy roll--minus the avocado and cream cheese. This was the first time I had hot sushi--it was fried fresh and served hot--absolutely delicious!!! Service was outstanding and highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a good sushi roll. We had lunch there on a Sunday around 1pm and there was one other table and some people at the bar. Our waitress was very attentive and our food came out relatively quickly. We started with the Yellowtail Spicy Razor - The yellowtail slices were thick and the crispy garlic and cilantro were a great compliment to the dish. Toro'ko Special Roll - lots of flavors going on in this roll. I could do without the topping of the sweet eel sauce on top but otherwise, this roll was good. Toro-fatty Tuna Nirigi - YUM! Very fatty and melt in your mouth Salmon Nigiri - salmon nigiri is my favorite and this delivered! Bluefin Nigiri - this was a bit fishy tasting so we had to add an extra dollop of wasabi Yellowtail Nigiri - very fresh! I really wanted to try the Chirashi lunch bento but that is only available during lunch M-F and I was not hungry enough to order the small Chirashi bowl. Today I experienced this place like a new restaurant. We have been here a few times. Typically we fly through on a weekday lunch or quick drop in just prior to some other scheduled activity and it was okay. Well today I experienced a leisurely well prepared, esthetically plated, and quaint restaurant in the nook of our community kind of restaurant. Service was great. We got two drinks, two salads, and four rolls for under $80... not bad. The spider roll was a consistent soft shelled crab seaweed wrapped roll, the Z roll was shrimp tempura wrapped roll with loads of layered fish and flavors on top, the Sonterra roll was a delicious spicy combo that had 3 distinct layers of heat along its very fresh soft fish, and the California roll was the standard clean, but creamy roll with rice on the outside. The ginger was fresh. We didn't try their mixed drinks but we aren't heavy drinkers... The restaurant is small seating 5-6 tables with a large table of 13 who had reserved ahead of time. The servers / chefs are plentiful for the size and service 'in to out' can be under 60 minutes. There is a sushi- bar top area that accommodate 6 people but mostly had couples or pair that came in after the rush had started. In this area that starts at 6:45pm and later. People came into the restaurant quickly picking up to go orders and no one stood around waiting. Aside from the size of the restaurant (there are 3 outdoor tables as well) I could not image this restaurant not being the 'close spot' for good sushi. I could see that they might have a wait list for indoor seating if reservations weren't made in advance on a busy night... I do suspect at some point their business would pick up to this reality. read more
