Sushi Sumo hit the spot with my sushi craving. I enjoyed my tempura appetizer and my sushi, but my favorite was the dessert. I loved the fruity sorbet with a white chocolate shell. Mango, passion fruit (I think?), and raspberry sorbet. The mango was THE best. So glad I drove all the way here from Exton, PA to meet with a friend. Went Monday (1/11) for my birthday. Took 30 minutes to even get our drinks. Waitress only checked on us twice. Never asked if we wanted refills. I fish, I know the difference between fresh fish and not fresh fish. This is fresh! I have eaten here several times never have I been disappointed . They give you a warm towel prior to eating which is a nice touch. Service is a bit slow sometimes but truly not a big deal. I went here with a few friends for dinner and was pleasantly surprised when we first walked in. The place is very clean and has a nice inviting atmosphere. The sushi we ordered was fresh and very flavorful. Rolls were nicely done and they were cut nicely. One of the people in the group is a non-sushi lover and he had the chicken teriyaki. 3.5 stars. Just can NOT believe how nice the decor is inside! The basic strip mall exterior gives you no idea how nice the decor inside is. A good date spot for sure. The sushi is good, but unremarkable. It's fresh, but not on the level of freshest sushi I've had. All the sushi is well proportioned and not monstrous just to lure chow hounds. Service was very nice. Really great food and service. You gotta love the hot towel treatment as soon as you sit. They have great lunch box combos. I wished they served them past 3pm. Went here again last night and everything was delicious as usual. The calamari is very tender, the shu mai is tasty and the Kiss of Fire sushi is still my favorite sushi ever! It contains Mango, Whitefish, Crab and Avocado drizzled with an eel sauce & some other kind of sauce. Its not on the menu but you have to ask for it and they will make it! This place looked freaking amazing which is why I'm pissed I may never go back there. Their sushi looked so fresh, presented well and I always heard good things. I went here with two friends on a Friday, though it wasn't busy. We were promptly sat, drink orders taken (after 10 mins) and then the waiting began. After another 15 to 20 minutes our order was taken...a fair amount of sashimi, and 1 roll, but nothing obscene. The waitress came over, "A few more minutes..." Okay we had our drinks and were fine. 15 minutes later, "A few more minutes..." okay this happened 1 or two more times, with at least 15-20 minutes in between those "few more minute" intervals. Now we are pissed. Especially because those who put their orders in after us got their sushi before us. We didn't order anything that has to be COOKED!!!! We threw some money on the table and left. I've never done this anywhere, ever. I've never had someone walk out on me for bad service. I felt bad, but what do you expect is going to happen when things take toooooo long. Don't let this little strip mall deceive you. Hands down this place is exceptional! Love the Mexican roll as well as kiss of fire. Cucumber roll is so fresh, can't get enough. The miso soup is terrific as well as the chicken teriyaki. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. I ate at this restaurant god knows how many times.... Best sushi in DE hands down. The sushi chefs are amazingly nice and make your sushi lightning fast. Likewise, the owners are sweethearts and if you get on their good side, might even treat you to a free app. They treat my family like family as we come here often. If I could give these guys 20 stars I would. From hot foods like teriyaki chicken, to the rawest seafood you so desire, sushi sumo will win you over. The only thing you need is some deep pockets if you plan to eat here often. Try to get their special sushi menu by the way, it has some amazing stuff in there other than the usual rolls you see in other restaurants. If you're 21, get some hot sake (or cold sake) while you're at it because they know the perfect sakes to go with your meal. You will not be unsatisfied coming here. My husband and I come often and always enjoy our meal. The sushi is good, fresh, and reasonably priced. They have a large variety of special rolls, but tend to stick to traditional combinations and healthy preparations, rather than going the whole-roll-tempura-fried route. This place is fantastic and not to be missed. I'm not a huge sushi fan but we enjoyed the lava roll immensely. It's well seasoned, spicy without being over powering. I had the tempura shrimp and veggies which were lightly fried, not oily at all. My friend had the teriyaki shrimp and we shared the crab wontons. All dishes were excellent. Wow! I ordered the sashimi deluxe dinner for take out and I wasn't expecting much but when I unwrapped the carefully packed takeout, the presentation was really nice! The sushi was well dressed and arranged, and the fish was of decent quality! I absolutely love this place. When it comes to sushi, I'm as picky as can be. This place has been a staple for me since it first opened years ago. It has never disappointed me. The service is friendly and prompt, and the seafood always taste fresh. The chefs are very creative and accommodating when you have a specific favorite type of fish and you can request specially made rolls. The prices are great- especially for amazing sushi! I've introduced this place to a dozen sushi-loving friends and everyone has been a repeating customer. If you're an adventurous eater, try the Crazy Eel roll (spicy tuna topped with broiled eel), it's packed with flavor. The Golden Dragon (Lobster tail tempura roll with eel and avocado) is another favorite of mine, it has edible gold flakes on top. Their appetizer Rock Shrimp Tempura is the bomb. Also try a Marble soda while you're at it- melon or lychee. read more

My son and I had dinner here for the first time based on a recommendation of a friend who lives in Newark. We were alerted to not let the lack of "curb appeal" sway us as it is located in a nondescript strip mall. The restaurant has mostly booths, but did see a private room with seating for a small party. Very cozy. We ordered the tempura appetizer (bland in my opinion, but my son liked it), rainbow (first time for this and we both loved it), Philly, Boston, and Maryland (this one was mushy and had a bit too much mayo). We would definitely go again though. Food was fresh, service was good (just a little too much, literally must have been back 10 times in our hour visit, felt rushed and there was only one more table of guests).
