We were surprised how busy it was, but we didn't know it was "all you can order". We were advised that $27.95 we could order as much as we wanted, or ala carte. A bit disappointed with our experience here. It should be noted that we went for lunch not dinner. We were seated right away and enjoyed the beautiful decor of the restaurant. Our waitress came over quickly and got our drink order. We decided to do the all you can eat option for about $20 per person. I started with the Miso Soup followed by the Shrimp Fried Rice. I was pretty disappointed with the shrimp fried rice. The shrimp were pretty small and it seemed to be thrown together. Hubby got the Gyoza, Edamame. He also got the Lovers Chicken which he compared to an Orange Chicken but sweet sauce. We dabbled with the sushi- I got shrimp sushi and the hubby got Spicy Beach. Had the lunch AYCE. Really good price, really good service, decent menu, though it's too bad there is no dessert included. The decor is so pretty with faux sakura flowers adorning the lights. We asked for hand rolls when possible, which gave us a better ratio of filling/seaweed to rice. Kitchen portions are just right, not too much and not too little. So this place is an all you can eat sushi joint, I did not know until I came in person. The food here is pretty good. Lunch is $17 and dinner is $28. I imagine the dinner offering is more expansive (no nigiri or sashimi for lunch). They have more than just sushi too. I helped myself to length of rice and noodle dishes too. Service is speedy and friendly which was surprising considering the place was completely packed at 2pm on a random Saturday. I wanted to like Sakura Japanese Restaurant so much because after we rented a car with no trunk our Delaware visit got scrapped so it was the one other place beyond Halloween City that we stopped into. But we didn't know they did an 'all you can eat' special when we dropped in, which was not the type of restaurant we were looking for. We decided to stay and I ordered the usual suspects, an avocado and cucumber roll as well as miso soup. The service was friendly and I enjoyed their decor and that the rolls were served in a boat, but the food was simply okay. Nothing amazing, just average quality ingredients made into average sushi. At the end of the day, I wouldn't make a special trip for Sakura Japanese Restaurant and would likely try another spot first. read more

They have a very discriminatory practice of charging for the AYCE sushi by height. I have tall children and had to pay adult prices for them due to this policy. The policy was no where in writing so I was unaware upon entering the restaurant. Tsk tsk We won't return. Highly recommend here for their lunch, it's only $15.59 (+tax) and it's all-you-can-eat sushi!! Prefect place for sushi lovers who want to eat a lot of sushi with an affordable price. Definitely worth every penny if you enjoy to try many food here! Their food quality is a little bit higher than normal sushi take-out places because of their special rolls and kitchen menus! I recommend trying their pork katsu and the Hawaiian roll (mango on top). Decided on a roommate dinner here scrolling thru the always trusty Yelp to find a place to eat. Heading here for some All You Can Eat Sushi, we stopped in for the dinner selection of hot items like BBQ Squid and fried Shui Mai along with rolls like eel based rolls with spicy tuna and crab meat along with the typical standard rolls that you'll find when you are craving. Their different salads were leaving wanting more. They had their standard seaweed salad but their crab salad was pretty much sticks of crab meat with pieces of red clam which was interesting. I would have preferred it to be shredded but the clam was a nice addition. My pull was the sashimi which came out pretty fresh. We ordered our salmon, red snapper, eel and white tuna. We also ordered scallop but that was a little more of a bust as they were formed well and ended up deflating a little. They had some items off a limited section per person per table like a white tuna martini which didn't come out in a martini glass like i assumed but it was good regardless. A little bummed that there wasn't dessert included in the meal that is pretty typical of other similar establishments. This is a solid all you can eat place! I only took pictures of the first 7 plates that came out. But we ordered at least another 4 sushi plates and 3 more plates of non sushi dishes. Is the sushi the most fresh sushi you will ever eat? No. But it's solid for Americanized sushi. The one thing I did not like was that the server purposefully does not come to check on your table, especially when they realize how much your table can eat. I get it. It's all you can eat, so they don't want to lose money. My tip: write down what you want ahead of time and order in HUGE bulk. We had a list going on one of our phones so that we could order as soon as the server came to pick up the empty plates. Be aggressive! I don't know how there's any negative reviews about this restaurant. It is my absolute favorite restaurant in Delaware !! I've told all of my friends and family about Sakura and I go at least once a month , if not more. The price is extremely fair for the all you can eat price. The beef teriyaki, crab salad, Hairy Mexican roll, and mango avocado are my favorites. Even when it's busy the service is excellent and you don't wait more than 10 minutes or so for food or at least appetizers. I can't say enough about how much I love Sakura. We had the AYCE buffet. The food was pretty amazing BUT BEWARE: they charge for everything you don't finish! This would be fine but unlike other AYCE sushi restaurants, their portions are huge! Not bite size but full rolls. Even the appetizers and soup are pretty generous. Although the AYCE is the better deal, I'm not really sure it'll be the better deal if you don't have a big appetite. Our server was also not that nice but the wait staff did seem pretty pleasant. Maybe it was our bad luck but I have to deduct a star for that. Besides Sakana in Hamilton, NJ, which unfortunately because of a fire, doesn't seem like it will open any time soon, Sakura is the best AYCE Sushi Restaurant in PA, NJ, DE, or anywhere else for that matter. Too many people do not know what they are missing out on. The selection and quality of the rolls, nigiri, and sashimi are second to none, except Sakana. Their servers are also a lot friendlier than the majority of the AYCE restaurants in the tri-state area. The appetizers are delicious, the hot food is delicious, the sushi is delicious, and their ice cream which is only available for dinner, and only 1 scoop per person is delicious as well. I wish I could give it a perfect 5 stars, but there are a few glaring problems. #1 They already raised the price during COVID so that should be enough. The raised prices were $25.95 on weeknights and $26.95 on weekends, but they have now made every night $26.95 #2 For the price, the ice cream should be unlimited too, but you can only have 1 scoop each, and it's only available for dinner, not lunch. #3 This is the worst one. So they limit you to only 50 pieces of sashimi per person, which is fine. I can live it with it, because all of the other food is delicious. BUT, the chefs NEVER give you what you order. For example, I order 20 pieces of yellowtail sashimi, then they give me 8 pieces. I order 15 pieces of eel sashimi, they get me 7 pieces. This happens all the time, with every order I put in. Even with the sushi, I had to order Ikura Sushi FOUR times before I finally got any Ikura!!!!! If the limit is 50 pieces per person, then they should give the customer what they ordered. This is the most annoying part about this restaurant, because then you have to keep track of what you ordered, because they can say you ordered your 50 pieces of sashimi, when in reality, you only received 30 pieces. Because they charge you for every piece of sashimi that you order over 50 pieces! Besides this stupidity on their part, Sakura blows Masa, Sushi Kingdom, Sushi Palace, Mr Sushi, Sushi King, Oki, Nagomi, and the rest of the AYCE restaurants out of the water. That is how good the food is. The other restaurants, except for Sakana have no chance in regards to their quality and selection. The server seemed annoyed to have to check when I asked about gluten, and then served two items with gluten. One I caught, the other I didn't. Obviously, we ended up eating here because of the good reviews and the all you can eat option. Usually, my family and I don't get our money's worth when it comes to AYCE, but we came hangry and ate a lot...our receipt was really long. We ended up trying a little bit of everything, which enabled us to pick out the sushi we loved and didn't really care for. I thought that their miso soup and seaweed salad were really good, but I probably wouldn't fill up on "filler" food...I would dive right into the sushi. Some of my favorite things that we got were the Kirkwood roll, salmon sashimi, unagi, unagi with avocado roll, and California roll. As for the service, our food came to our table really quickly, but as soon as the place got really crowded, it took a lot longer to receive our food, which is expected. Regardless, the staff was pleasant and the atmosphere was really nice, so we didn't mind the wait. The sauce on mango salmon roll tastes really weird. (Weird combination of sweet and sour), but overall the roll tastes fine, just would recommend getting it WITHOUT the sauce on the top) Overall, Sashimi (crab meat, eel, shrimp, etc) is fresh, except red clam. It's not as fresh as before either. Tamago is not freshly made, but store bought, so it's rather too sweet. Miso soup has improved, more flavorful than before!! The lunch menu is an abridged version of the dinner menu, but for $14, it's a pretty sweet deal. There are about 10 special rolls, and about 15 classic and veggie rolls to choose from as well as other Japanese fare. Not the greatest variety, but enough that you'll get your fill. It's in a plaza, so ample amount of parking. It is a large restaurant, and the few times I've been, there was never a wait and there's always a lot of room, with 2 private areas in the back. Decent service and attentive, and it was never an issue when I went. Food/Drinks: It's basically a you-order-your-own, all-you-can-eat sushi, sashimi, mini-appetizers, and some hot small plates. It's friendly for those who don't like sushi and those who wants cooked sushi. They have a wide selection of special rolls, so lots to choose from. I also never had trouble ordering certain rolls or have them make certain sushi a particular way. The quality is decent, and not terrible. They do have a full bar and serve beer/wine/alcohol. Finally, they do have dessert, including fried banana w/ ice cream and various types of ice cream (including green tea, which is a must if you never tried before!).
