Wish I could give this racist place a zero if you're black please save your money, came here with my girlfriend the front desk guy had an attitude because I wanted to be moved to another seat instead of moving us he said "you can move yourself and left". Another thing was I tried asking question about the menu he got an attitude say "I'm not your waiter" yet a white family came in late which he attended to they got their food before us even though we placed an order first it took them 40 minutes to make 1 row of sushi my girl and I lost our appetite that's why I didn't tip very bad service no one checked on us if we were ok or give us an ETA on our food. I don't mean to be gross but I threw up after I ate from here, again I was a little sick then. It was takeout so that could have been another thing. The sushi at this place is so fresh and I would give it a 10/10. The noodles were also very good. We came last weekend and it was busy but we didn't wait for more than 5 minutes for a table. The only issue we had was the hostess was a bit rude. She told us she was the owner and to just wait a minute and she would get us a table. She then waved a DoorDash driver over to her and when he asked her for help she said that's not my job go that way and pointed across the restaurant. We asked when we were at the table how long she has been the owner here and our server told us she isn't, so that was weird. We thought the owner was a gentleman we had seen before and turns out that is right. Not sure why she was rude or saying untrue stuff. Was in the mood for sushi. Located Sushi Yama. Walked in and was greeted right away. Sat in a booth and the waitress came to take our order. The restaurant had a nice crowd. The food came out really quickly and hot. The waiter was attentive and really personable by suggesting menu items and confirming the order. You can see the sushi being prepared and it is re fresh. Maybe it is me but I am losing my interest in this restaurant. It seems that the quality of food feels compromised. I can't pinpoint the change but it seems when a restaurant is using heavy sauces in dishes makes me think it is to coverup ingredients quality. Don't get me wrong I still order but I am being very selective in my choices limiting to dishes that do not have sauces. With limited sushi options in Delaware, I decided to give this place a try. I ordered two party trays for a little family gathering. Upon bringing the two party trays home, I immediately noticed the small size of the individual pieces. When we all started digging in, we all agreed that the rice had a funny texture. The rice was borderline stale and hard. The unagi in the dragon roll was extremely chewy as well. I know unagi has a slight chew to it, but this required significant jaw power. On a side note, I called prior to Thanksgiving to double check their hours on Black Friday, as that was when I was planning on ordering the platter. The individual who picked up the phone was extremely rude when I simply asked for a confirmation of the hours for Black Friday. Safe to say I won't be ordering from here anymore. read more

Was super impressed by the pork katsu. It was not oily at all and the meat was very tender and soft while the outside was crispy. We also ordered a party platter which had really good variety for the price (8 rolls for about $60). My family all really enjoyed it and were happy with the value. I took my girlfriend to Sushi Yama to celebrate the start of Saturday night. We have friends in Middletown and visit the area from time to time, but this was our first rendezvous at my pal Polish's favorite sushi joint. Upon entering we were seated at a table smack in the center of the crowded dining area. Conversations drifted like lazy kites and platters of sushi swam to tables all around us as we wiped our hands with the steamed towels provided to us. The typos in the menu provided a source of prolonged amusement as the weekly specials veer toward incomprehensibility and some of the sushi descriptions suffer similar misspellings. Our bowls of miso soup arrived quickly, but the broth itself was bland and had little miso taste: avoid ordering this item. We were much more impressed by the sushi. The Alaska Roll's salmon is fatty and delicious, with the avocado's consistency pairing perfectly and the cucumber giving a satisfying crunch. The spicy tuna roll is also enjoyable, and our pieces of eel sushi were impeccable. The super white tuna had, perhaps, too mild a flavor for our palates, but overall, the taste and presentation were top notch. I would happily return here to explore the other menu items and try all of the sashimi options. This is a smart choice for diners in the area and also worthwhile if just passing through. read more

This place would have gotten maybe 4 stars for the food... if we didn't have such a not favorable first time experience. I have heard from several coworkers that the sushi was amazing ! We thought it was a good sign that it was still packed even if it was after 2pm. We were seated quickly and ordered after a few minutes of looking over the menu. I got the BB. Lunch bento box, which included miso soup, ginger dressing salad, seafood tempura, California roll and chicken teriyaki and rice. I also ordered shrimp tempura roll which is my go-to roll. I know the restaurant was super busy but it took the longest time to get our food. It took about 20 mins to get our soups and salad that was included w my meal. Then it took another 30 mins to get our main entrée. We were so hungry we ate quickly. The sushi is good though and so was the other food. I was disappointed my chicken teriyaki was cold when it came out like it has been sitting out for a bit. The chicken had a good grilled flavor with a decent teriyaki sauce. Some of our sushi fell apart while picking them up like it wasn't rolled tightly. Then as I picked up my last piece of chicken to eat..our waitress slammed down our check on the table like they were rushing us ( after waiting 30 mins for each course...uh okay). The restaurant at this point was not as busy and there were plenty of empty tables around us. Sushi is pretty expensive here as well. The sushi is good but I don't want to wait an hour to be served my food. If I really don't want to make the drive to Dover for Yukon then I may consider coming back..(if I do come back it will be for take out) read more

Pretty nice spot with pretty okay sushi. Came here after driving in town from Jersey to see my old college friend and her mom. Mom treated us to lunch... they enjoyed the lunch boxes.... wish a full vegetarian option here would be welcome. I got to enjoy my friend's mom's Miso, as see is not a tofu fan or as she says... "white stuff." I also had one of each of the 3 veggie rolls... the cuts were the right size but less individual pieces than I expected.... 5 instead of 6 to 8 like at a lot of other places... but I know every place is different. The soy sauce was rich, the wasabi fresh as the ginger and overall the service great... I got full but would've go back for the avocado roll... simple yet memorable. I never in a million years thought there would be such an amazing sushi restaurant in a small town in Delaware but here we are! Their online menu isn't entirely up to date so I can't remember exactly what we ordered, unfortunately. They have a lot of your classic maki but some creative variations as well. There is plenty of 'beginner' sushi and more 'adventurous' varieties so everyone will find something they like! Between the five of us, we had vegetable tempura, gyoza, miso soup, salad and a whole BUNCH of rolls. My favorite one was called the monkey maki which had banana in it! It sounded too strange not to try but it was amazing. I've also enjoyed mango in sushi too so I think throwing fruit in there is a must try! All the seafood was fresh and served to us on a huge platter which made sharing easy. The only thing I would give a pass on is the vegetable tempura which was like one or two vegetables. The rest was huge chunks of fried, firm tofu. I don't mind tofu at all but this was pretty bland. The batter was nice and light though. All this food (plus soy wraps on several of the rolls for my stepmom, definitely a sushi beginner), a couple sodas and a bottle of plum wine was almost exactly $200. It would cost probably double that in Chicago for the amount we ordered. This place is such a gem. It's super clean, the host stays calm despite it being crazy busy and the service is attentive without being overbearing. I'm not going to lie I did not like sushi at all until I came into this restaurant. I had ordered the chicken teriyaki and my boyfriend ended up getting sushi and getting one for me to try and I'm so glad he did. Not only did they put so much time and effort into everything on the plates and made it look absolutely stunning... But everything tasted amazing too and I finally found sushi that I enjoy.
