I wish I could love Sushi Train and come back. I went several times and had good experiences, so this may be an outlier. However, I recently went and got some really off salmon - I don't know if it was the fish itself or with the preparation, but it had a strong, strange smell that salmon really doesn't normally have (and i've eaten a lot of salmon sushi in my day). I brought this up with my server, less as an accusation but as a heads up and because I wouldn't want to pay for this plate, which I feel is reasonable. However, the manager there got SUPER defensive, kept talking about them doing research on cuts of salmon that might smell this way (I've never eaten raw salmon that smelled this bad but OK), and then brought me out a plate of new sushi and had me eat it to prove it was OK, when at that point I was kind of put off of salmon at that point. Like I said, I mostly wanted to bring this up as an FYI, but the experience of bringing it up and the defensiveness of the staff when at that point I just wanted to pay and go made me not interested in going to Sushi Train again. read more

This place was good. I loved the concept of sushi on a belt going around the restaurant. We tried the squid salad it was a little chewy and though. Though the salmon was delicious you could tell which pieces had been on the belt longer cus they were not as cold. The waitress was very nice and explained anything we asked. This unique experience is definitely one to try. The conveyer belt dining experience immerses you into a unique environment. The plates range in price from 2.50-6.50 per plate. The food was a little cold and some things weren't up to my standards. I really enjoyed the atmosphere tho. I love conveyor belt sushi spots and I knew going in the quality of the fish would be mediocre. I ordered an udon noodle which felt like something I could make from a frozen pack from Costco. The sushi was okay. Oh I love how they label the vegetarian options. It was interesting to see peanut butter jelly sandwiches on the belt. Pricing wasn't bad. Service was great - I was one of two tables. It was close to my hotel (11 mins walk in -6 degrees weather) and yes I did brave sub degree weather to try it out. We visited on a weeknight for dinner and it wasn't very busy. We were starving and this place was perfect because we didn't have to wait for the food to come out. The conveyor belt already had an assortment of items to pick from. The server advised us that if there is something that we want that isn't on the belt we could order it through her. The items were distinguished into 6 different colored plates with the prices ranging from $1.95-$5.50. Overall we had a good experience and the kids enjoyed grabbing what our table wanted. read more

Went here with a group of 7, they said there will be a group service charge, but then proceed to split us up into 2 booths that are separated by the sushi train, also had 2 different waitresses serve us. We initially tried to tell them that it doesn't make sense to charge everyone a group fee when they have us split up into 2 separate booths with 2 separate wait-staff. We're already upset because of them charging us the group service fee. At the end they say they decided to not charge us a group fee as if they were some saints when that should've been the case from the beginning. Then with everyone still being disappointed they proceed to get upset at the tips we leave as if we owed them after putting a bad taste in ours mouths from the start. Entitlement was crazy. Food was edible but by the time you try everything your bill is over $80 knowing you could of instead gone to a better eatery where the food is good. A very short and stout Asian Lady that was a host was almost sleeping in the reception like she really was obligated to work there. I asked her for a napkin but instead she responded with a tone and told me to go to my waiter because she was too busy staring at the wall. Went with a group of friends and were seated in table across from eachother which was nice (We sat across from each other with the conveyor belt in between us). The sushi was okay. I can't say that it's the best sushi because I've had better but it was a nice experience. It was super busy but I think that's only because this place is fairly new. The waitress came to fill our water frequently which was a plus. I've been waiting for this to happen for quite some time so it's nice to see this in the Twin Cities. I think they need to use square for their transaction process though. The waitress walked back and forth for each of our transactions so each person can sign the receipt. I'd like to see more sushi variety and can't wait to try it again in a few months. read more

I've had this restaurant on my "to try" list for a while and finally made it, it was fantastic!! There was a bit of a wait, 15-20 minutes and there is a bar area that we sat in while we waited. The seating included tables and a counter option and we were seated at the counter. The staff was wonderful and gave an overview of how the conveyor process worked. The food was delicious! There were lots of choices, cooked and uncooked, the basic sushi options and more adventurous as well. They had some options for kids and non-sushi eaters and desserts that were wonderful too. I came here today for lunch and was very surprised at how slow it is for lunch. The waiter greeted us immediately and took us two to our seat. We ordered the fried chicken wings and chicken gyoza. Both were delicious and cooked well. Although not the best, it is definitely better than most restaurants that I've been to. Now, their sushi options seems endless as the sushi train kept coming by with freshly made sushi. I even tried the peanut butter and jelly roll too! It would be great for families with small children! I couldn't get enough of the Double Shrimp Roll and got two plates of them. I ate here for a late lunch today. Although everything I did eat tasted great and fresh, the cost for what you get was really high. I got 2 plates with different rolls and 2 crab and cucumber salad since nothing really stood out to me to eat. The restaurant was very clean and looks great on the inside. Parking is very limited close by. The staff was very attentive and well staffed for the time of day it was. I left my card on the table by accident and the waitress caught up with me outside which was very nice of her. My issue was with price, you can go get 2 full rolls at a restaurant for the price of what I got today. You pay for the experience it seems. We went Saturday for our first trip to the Sushi Train. Wife, daughters, and I all had great time. I wish we would have taking pictures and will on future visits. Our server was friendly and attentive to our needs as customers. The conveyor system was fun and made for more interactive dining experience. Rolls came in four pieces so variety was at a premium. Our family tends to over order when we go out for sushi just for sharing and variety, but this stopped that right in its tracks. Was not the best sushi that we have had but really freshly made & fun atmosphere. Your bill can add up very fast with the best looking & tasting sushi being on the more expensive side per plate. The conveyor belt circling around you can be a bit overwhelming so make sure to check out everything before picking up the plate. They are constantly making new plates at a very fast pace so you will get to try everything you want. I recommend researching the menu a little before going or at the restaurant as all rolls are detailed on menu. Will definitely go back again, maybe during happy hour! Came here for lunch and had a waitress with horrible service. She was rude seating us and getting our waters which were the only interactions we had because it was self serve sushi on the conveyor belt. When we asked to pay, she used the handheld paying system. She didn't tell us the total and she picked her own tip percentage without telling us( a tip percentage that was high)and demanded we just sign the machine. When my mother tried to bring the machine closer to read the bill(we had no idea what it was and also this is usually the time you pick tip percentage) she just kept demanding she sign and telling she can't hold the machine. We would have tipped anyway, but the sneakiness and how she tried to cheat her way into getting a good tip for horrible service is not ok. The first two times I went were great, they were both around the time when they first opened, also when it was always packed. This time I have gone back, we got a table right away. It was only half packed during a dinner time on a Saturday. I noticed that most of the rolls/nigiri that I got the first two times weren't there anymore, even though they are still on the menu. One of the waitresses was extremely rude! I and my two young kids sat at the table for a few minutes. My kids were excited and got some plates and couldn't wait to eat. However there are no forks but only chopsticks that my kids doesn't know how to use. I didn't know when the waiter or waitress would come. There were just a few and all were busy. Therefore, I was walking to a waiter who was close to my table and asked where I could get some forks, politely. The waiter was nice and about to give to me. Suddenly, a waitress came out from nowhere and yelled at me: "I saw you guys just sat for 10 seconds! I said I will come to you in a minute! I am busy right now! I don't want to be pushy to anyone!" I was astonished!!! First she never came to us and told us she was serving our table and when she would come. Second I was just trying to get some forks. What's wrong with that? I was about to leave there immediately but just didn't want to disappoint my kids. She then served us with a very grumpy face till we left. This was my first time having such a ridiculous situation. Good quality sushi but the experience was mediocre. I've visited conveyer sushi locations in larger US ciites and Tokyo that offered a much more memorable experience. You can tell that the owners try to select good quality ingredients for a fair price point. The fish was fresh and rice was a good temperature without being hard. Food clearly labeled for those who are vegetarian or don't want raw items. That said, it's quite easy to overspend and if you are hungry it may be better to consider one of the many AYCE places in the cities. Additionally the takoyaki was piping fresh but very center was raw/runny (I still ate it haha). The restaurant was sparsely decorated with many bare walls giving it a weird cold ambience. Booths for larger groups become cramped easily especially as plates pile up and those at the end are unable to grab any items of the belt (problem any place though). No happy hour specials yet. My main reason for reviewing, however, was the amazing service we received from our server Jerry W. I normally like to show appreciation for good or bad service through the tip without much comment.
