Great spot for AYCE sushi at a reasonable price. The Eagan location is consistently fresh and delicious. Food comes out pretty quickly and the service is friendly. The dynamite roll is a dressed up shrimp tempura roll smothered in eel sauce, so good! My favorite roll is the crazy roll, which is like the dynamite roll but it also has cucumber so you get a nice texture contrast with the crunchy cucumber pieces. The fried rice and udon have a really nice smoky flavor. The beef and salmon teriyaki cuts are pretty thin but the teriyaki sauce adds a lot of flavor. For dessert they have green tea, red bean, and vanilla ice cream. The ice cream is creamy and the scoops are generous. They do not take reservations. Stopped by here for lunch with some work colleagues. It is pretty centrally located in the heart of a lot of shopping and the town center in Eagan. It's an all you can eat sushi place that has a bunch of other stuff too. We were greeted by the host and got seated pretty quickly. The place was clean and the staff friendly. You order off the menu what you would like and they will bring it out as it's ready. We ordered a whole bunch of stuff amongst us. I tried the wings, edamame, and curry beef as well as some rolls and had rolls. The food was all decent. What you would expect at an AYCE restaurant. nothing stood out but nothing was terrible either. I wouldn't be running back there but also wouldn't mind going again if someone wanted to get sushi for lunch. My partner and I got seated and then promptly greeted by our waitress. We got our first round pretty quickly. The restaurant is a decent size and it's easy to maneuver. There are so decorations but nothing that really stands out for me. They do have some tvs at the bar. I got a spicy salmon temaki, a cucumber roll, and Philadelphia roll. I enjoyed my spicy salmon temaki and the cucumber roll. They tasted delicious, and the cucumber roll is one of my favorite rolls. It's always so refreshing! My Philadelphia roll was okay. I thought the smoked salmon, cream cheese and avocado proportion was a little off. I would have like more smoked salmon in my roll personally. I got octopus, surf clam, yellow tail, escolar, red tuna, spicy salmon and spicy escolar nigiri. My red tuna, in particular tasty really fishy, and not in a good way. So did my yellowtail but it wasn't as strong as my red tuna. The salad was good, and so was the teriyaki salmon, there wasn't anything super special about either dish. I used to eat here every other week, I just brought my daughter in for the first time as our office is right down the street and she came to work with me. Nasty attitude from the staff the entire time with terrible service, my daughter didn't like the sushi she ordered the noodles she ordered and the manager came out with a very "spicy" attitude, saying we needed to pay a 20% waste fee on top of our bill. Of course you can get higher quality food elsewhere, but this is the place to go when you're all starving and ready to order a lot of yummy food QUICKLY. Ambiance is very casual. My server was a bit difficult at the beginning. After I ordered a vegetable salad, I started asking about the ingredients in the vegetable fried rice. I don't personally feel that the selection is diminished in the unlimited option vs the standard menu. The restaurant can get a bit loud during peek times, but that is to be expected. There are plenty of tables, so we have rarely had to wait. Servers are timely in taking orders, though sometimes the sushi kitchen can be slow. Last Sunday, I was craving ramen. I did a quick search and found Kyoto Sushi. It was five minutes away from where I was. I drove over to this eatery, which is fairly close to Best Buy. I backed into a parking spot steps away from the entrance and walked into the restaurant. I was quickly greeted by a woman. She asked whether I was here for the all-you-can-eat menu. I had no idea that this place was an AYCE joint, but you could also order items off the regular menu. I said yes to the former. I was first seated at the bar. I asked for a table instead. I got one. It was around 1:50 pm, so there was plenty of seating. This place charges some fee if you order way too much food and can't finish it. I don't do well at AYCE places as far as volume goes. However, I like coming to such establishments because I get to try a bit of everything. I needed something to drink and got a Diet Coke. By default, you get a glass of water, which was nice. The soy is low-sodium. I appreciated that attention to detail and that decision. I got a bunch of items to start: - Rainbow roll - Chicken wings (2) - Shrimp tempura (1) - Chicken ramen - Beef teriyaki - Seafood udon I felt like I needed more food after the first round, but was getting full and got the following: - Dumplings - Green tea and strawberry ice cream You know what I didn't enjoy the most? It was the craving that I had. The chicken ramen was okay. I found it bland. I think if the broth were miso instead of the milky, boring broth, it would have been perfect. The surprising dish that wowed me was the seafood udon. The lack of flavour in the ramen was totally made up in the udon. So flavourful! The udon noodles were chewy and perfect. I loved the veggies in this dish. The seafood was fake crab, which wasn't surprising. I have been thinking about going back just for the udon. The chicken wings were delicious. They were full wings with lots of flavour. They were messy to eat, though. No one knew me here, so it didn't matter how much of a mess that I made. The shrimp tempura was huge. It was so crispy with all the tempura around it. The rainbow roll hit the spot. You get different varieties of fish. The roll tasted fresh. The dumplings were deep-fried. They were pretty good. The beef teriyaki was outstanding. The char was perfect while the beef stayed juicy and tender. You must have the ice cream. Super creamy. The guy had a smug attitude from minute zero and thought we were morons who couldn't tell Yellowtail from Tuna. He proceeded to avoid and ignore our table for twenty minutes. Kyoto used to be pretty good value for decent quality and now it's $40/person to feel like you're dining at Chucky Cheese. It's barely worth the review honestly. Other than the all-you-can-eat deal, I would say this is your average sushi joint. Service was ok here - when we first sat down, service was slow to get an order in, but once we were getting food it wasn't bad. The people in our group with the AYCE deal were served their food about 5 minutes after every order, which was great timing. As someone that can't eat more than $30 worth of sushi, I got the B.C. Roll (salmon, avocado, cucumber) and some edamame. Edamame was basic but still delicious, and the beans weren't over cooked. You get a big portion for $6! Two of us were eating it and barely finished one order - shoutout to our waitress for stopping us from ordering two since it's so big! The B.C. Roll was delicious, but it's a pretty basic roll so I feel like it would be hard to get wrong. Went in last night for AYCE, server was extremely rude and in a rush from the start when the restaurant was not even full and was well after rush hour. Our party ordered we received our food, when the bill came we told the server to keep the change as we had paid in cash she returned with the change and made a smart remark yelled and said "(this much amount) for 3 people??" Started angry laughing then yelling at multiple other staff members in a different language. I decided to not address the situation with a higher up as this was embarrassing enough. I have came here for years and after last night WILL NOT be coming back. Ambience and Location Yes, it is located in a strip mall but don't let that deceive you. The sushi is pretty good. It is not the fanciest or the highest quality but at AYCE you really cannot go wrong. Food and Drink The menu that they offer for the AYCE is pretty expensive. You can order sushi, sushi rolls, fried rice, noodles, appetizers, teppanyaki dishes, and much more. My wife and I really like their Kyoto Roll, that is probably our favorite. You are able to order as much as you want each time your waiter comes around. Food output is always pretty fast so we usually order one or two things at a time and then sharing between the table. Service Pretty quick. You waiter makes sure that your table is always full of food and that you are getting what you want. Price AYCE is about $30 a person. Not bad when you think about all the sushi you will be consuming. Final Verdict Fun place to spend a date night or with family. Sadly, I have to drop my rating for Kyoto down a star. I have been dining at Kyoto for more than 11 years. It took a little bit to get its bearings at the beginning, but once it did, the place provided good value, good service and good sushi. Now, Kyoto needs a refresh. The decor and other aspects just seem tired. The portions have shrunk while prices have risen. I don't begrudge them raising prices as they were steady for a long time. I'm in town on business and I had a hankering for some sushi since it's something I eat on the regular back home. Kyoto has a nice setup but doesn't feel very big. It lends itself to a more intimate setting, which I can get behind, especially if I want to keep things private and quiet. My server, Vicky, was quiet but friendly and she made my dining experience pleasant. She always checked up on me and brought my food and drink with a strong sense of urgency. So from a service perspective things were top-notch. The food was pretty good but their fish didn't seem as fresh as a restaurant closer to the water would be. Coming from the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area, I think we have fresher fish. At the same time, this establishment does AYCE so that may be the reason (mind you the Hampton Roads area does AYCE, too). There were a couple of rolls I tried which I haven't seen at other sushi spots - a chicken teriyaki roll and a roll they've named the Sexy Girl (which contains spicy tuna and little crunchies and is topped off with spicy crab meat). The chicken teriyaki roll wasn't the most memorable (but points for creativity) while the Sexy Girl was good, but heavy. I tried their seafood fried udon, which I felt was fairly good. Very disappointed with this location today. Our military friend came back in town. He made us all a reservation for 6pm today for 10 people. We show up and they tell us our reservation is not until 630. OK find we wait. We finally get seated order drinks/alcohol and wait for food. We'll the workers in front come back to try and tell us we did not have a Reservation. He shows them his phone with the store # and time he called. They had a group of 24 people upfront that they tryed to say has the same name as our friend. His name is not commen. They tryed to tell us even though we ordered that we would have to leave for this larger group of people and that they could not accommodate us to be served at there location on this day. The spot we were sitting in only accommodate 12 people as that is what they told us when we check in and they tryed to kick us out for 24 people where would they put the other 12 people. Very disrespectful today and they did not bring us all the food we order. Left still hungry as they keep forgetting to bring items to the table. Plus we had a few special order as we had a adult that was allergic to certain items. She never got the items. Also when we went to leave the waitress stop the guys at our table to deman more tip some gave a tip and some did not but the stop them as the think they need more money. Aslo to add to the edit. I am THOROUGHLY DISGUSTED with the service that I received at the Kyoto Sushi restaurant in Eagan on 1/4/2021. First, when placing my phone order, I made it very clear that I wanted SEAFOOD FRIED RICE, not shrimp fried rice. I've received shrimp fried rice in the past when seafood rice was requested. This time, I'm certain that this was INTENTIONAL! Additionally, the young lady who assisted me in-person was extremely RUDE and outright disrespectful. I handed her my debit card, and instead of placing it in my hand, the looked me in my brown face and placed it on the counter. She then placed the credit slip on the counter with a pen & said "sign this" with a very nasty tone. When I politely stated that I wouldn't sign with the pen provided unless she allowed me to use the hand sanitizer first, she again said, "Sign this!" The sanitizer was on the opposite side of the register, out of customers' reach, and the pen was used by anyone and everyone else who had to sign a credit slip. Unlike most places of business there were no cup holders to differentiate used vs. sanitized writing utensils. She finally slammed the sanitizer on the counter after my 3rd request. Needless to say, I will not patronize this restaurant again. As I initially stated, I've had issues with requesting one thing and receiving something different. No apology or effort was ever made to rectify the errors, and this time it happened after I clearly stated that errors were made in the past and that I wanted Seafood Fried Rice.
