This is one of our go to date night spots. We are always happy with the food and love the atmosphere. The staff is beyond helpful with pairing sake to each roll/dish, and at this point they know us by name! When we finally brought in our kids, they were so accommodating and we have gotten a 'private booth' each time which is great for the kids. My family and I have been coming here for 18 years and have loved this place over the years. Usually go 3-4 times a month. However, due to ownership changes, Tanya, our favorite waitress no longer works there. The place is not the same without her. Went there today and unfortunately the quality of sushi and service has gone down. Everything was luke warm/cold and wasn't as fresh as normal. No Natto (never available as not enough customer demand). Nice waitresses, good, friendly and prompt service (not like in other reviews, but it was quiet when I was there), non-Japanese chef and personnel. At least they had nice and fresh Uni. Typical American style nigiri sushi with too much rice and very little or no wasabi. Did not try the monster rolls, but if you like them, they have them. I love Sushi House. They have the best sushi around and the sushi chef will makes us the Diet Roll that was on the menu years ago but was taken off. We like it so much and he makes it every time for us. Love the soba and udon noodle soup. Very reasonable prices compared to many other Japanese restaurants in the area. Now they offer brown rice and black rice for sushi and rice sides. Hard to find an Asian place that have these healthy rice alternatives. We go every chance we get. read more

I made the mistake of seeing the bathrooms first, disgusting, clogged up toilet, floors dirty, stall lock not working. Very pricey for a sushi restaurant, they try to look fancy with the warm towel but cheapy chopsticks. The only reason I give them two stars is because the one roll we ordered was delicious, all 5 Tiny Pieces for 10 bucks, and the server was ok. The ramen was super bland. I called in a custom order order to pick up. The woman over the phone said it would be ready in 40-45 minutes. I arrived and it was ready for me to take out immediately. They had my order made perfectly. The staff was curteous. The restaurant was clean. I was out in less than 5 minutes. All and all, a great experience. read more

The Tako balls were good. The lamb chop appetizers were so so as the meat was a bit tough. The dan dan noodles though were probably below average. Won't be ordering that again. Ok, so my girl friend and I went here for our anniversary, we have tried other sushi places in the surrounding areas so we thought we would try this for the heck of it. Anyway, the food was ok, we had the Gyoza (pot stickers) the dipping sauce was a pretty standard ponzu sauce, but the Gyoza skins were hard, like they had been in the fryer too long, the prices were a bit high for the amount of food you got, the rolls were below average. The service was however better than some of my fellow yelpers have posted. Our server was young and slightly inexperienced bt she made up for that with her friendly attitude which is sometimes more important than speed or experience. This Sushi House, I am refering to the Sushi House of Wheaton only, should call themselves something else. I have been to the Sushi House in Westmont as well as to the one in LaGrange. Both outstanding and overall just great. However, Wheaton you were very disappointing Friday Night. I regret ordering thinking I would get the same service and quality I have received from the other two Sushi Houses. I understand that they have different owners but my goodness this was a shock. The prices are just as pricey and I usually feel well worth it when it comes to Westmont and LaGrange but the rolls were noticeable smaller here at Wheaton. Don't try this location. Service is slow and the rolls are not the same. Westmont has a great selection of very interesting rolls. They are wonderful this location disappointed. I moved right down the block a few months ago, and I'm totally addicted to this place (because I get 20% through my apt complex). The staff is friendly, and the sushi chefs are very entertaining hosts. The food is definitely above average sushi for the mid-west (can be tough finding good seafood around here). I would recommend the Spicy Aji rolls, and if you're adventurous- try the Sea Urchin and the Eel (unagi)!! Definitely my favorite place for a quite bite in danada! read more

We recently moved to the Wheaton area & we usually go to Sushi City for the value buffet. We decided to try something new last night & went to Sushi House instead. The service was excellent! The atmosphere was comfortable & nicely decorated! Although the price was a little on the expensive side, it was extremely high quality fish. We loved the tempura sushis the best! Something has happened to the Sushi House we've loved for 10+ years. The food, especially the sushi has always been consistently good, often great. And same with service. It all went south when we ate there early this month. None of the staff was familiar that night (which can happen) but the service was not just weak, it was annoying. Sorry to say. The hostess, who I know meant well, stopped at our table 10+x - not joking, to ask if "everything was ok, do you need anything". More disappointing was the sushi - my tuna was the worst tuna sushi I have had in years and this location's always been my fave. Same with the eel roll. Everything was off that night and it truly seemed like a different team/vibe and commitment to quality. I am sad to write this but I hope we can either inspire a return to great food/service or provide fair warning. I'll personally need to read or hear trusted enthusiastic reviews before I'll go back. I only been to Sushi House two times since I moved to Wheaton and both experiences were great...that is until a few hours later.... The first time I had Unagi, California, and Spicy Tuna rolls to go. I called it in and the food was ready when I got there. The hostess was very nice and I went home to enjoy my sushi and video games. However I ended up getting violently ill later that night. I thought maybe it was just a coincidence and decided to go again this weekend. This time my friend and I decided to eat there and I had a glass of Riesling with my Sashimi meal and Unagi rolls. We went on with our night and everything was fine until about 10 p.m. when I started to feel ill again. I once again found myself praying to the porcelain god and am really disappointed because this place seems so great. I would love to say that its my first few experiences with sushi and maybe I am allergic to something but unfortunately that would not be true. If you do go there be careful what you order and maybe down that tab of wasabi they give because it is known to kill bacteria. read more

I always enjoyed going to Sushi House when I lived in Chicago. I made sure I stopped in when I was in town last week. I started with green tea to warm me up (damn it was COLD in Chicago) and the edamame. I'm obsessed with spicy tuna rolls but I decided to get crazy and have the spicy tuna "cone." Ok, it's pretty much the same thing but it has more tuna than rice and looks like an ice cream cone. Tasty morsels! The service was awesome. Super friendly and attentive. read more

Living in Chicago for 13 years, my hubby and I are used to hole in the wall sushi restaurants, so we're not prima donnas... HOWEVER, this was one of the worst experiences we've ever had. The service was not only slow, but rude. The inattentive waitress hurried us through ordering. We tried to ask if it would be ok to order some sushi now and see where our tastes led us for round two, and she said if we didn't know what we wanted she would come back because she was very busy. My wife and I have been going to Sushi House in Wheaton for 10 years now. We are both veterans of the restaurant biz and consider ourselves foodies. We have had nothing but good experiences here. The sushi is always great quality (even the Americanized items). I can not tell you how much I enjoy crunching on a delicious fried shrimp head. We have NEVER had an issue with the service (as mentioned by a few reviewers). Quite the opposite, actually. The owner, sushi chefs, and waitstaff always welcome us with a smile and a wave from behind the counter. Maybe we're spoiled moving recently from SF but this place wasn't all that spectacular. There were four of us (two adults, one child, one toddler). Got seated within 5 minutes which was great, but then proceeded to wait a full hour before we got any food, even appetizers. It was ridiculous - the sushi chefs must have made 3 grocery bags full of take out orders while everyone else in the restaurant waited. The sushi itself was just ok - the fish looked and tasted fresh but the portion sizes were odd, each piece was maybe a thumb tip worth of rice with a piece of fish cut very narrowly but about twice as long as the rice. read more

We enjoy Japanese food, and Sushi House, Wheaton, has much to offer. It is clean. The food is fresh and meticulously prepared. We really like the cod appetizer, very nicely done. Unlike Sushi House, Westmont, which has more Chinese-style dishes, the dishes here are much more authentic. It is well worth the drive. read more

I have eaten here once and ordered to go once. It is good sushi for a decent price. Sometimes though you just cant help but choose sushi rolls you dont like. I unfortunately had that experience here, but overall their basic rolls like Cali and Tuna roll are great. The tuna roll had fresh tuna in it and was not hidden with a bunch of other junk. As for their specialty rolls I feel it could be a hit or miss. Overall I would visit again and keep trying their sushi until I find my go to favorites. read more

My husband and I love this place. Yes it's a bit pricey but we view it as a special treat and well worth the price. I recommend the dragon roll and try whatever special they have. I have never walked out of Resturant and this was the place for me to have that unpleasant experience this weekend (Saturday night). We walked out because every table and even the people at the bar got there main entrees before us. We were there at least 20 mins and ordered prior to those parties. Unless your a regular and the sushi chef knows you then your good coming here or maybe you will get lucky with the service. We had a movie to see next door too so if you have a show to watch - consider yourself warned. If you want to get a reasonable return on your hard earned money - I would suggest going to Lu's Sushi just right down street. Don't make the same mistake I did. Had dinner tonight. it was an exhausting experience. Terribly slow, many others in the restaurant were unhappy too. Drink orders not taken for 10 min and then 10-15 later drinks finally showed and that was just the start of the 2+ hour ordeal. I asked for the check as my son was still finishing his ramen-which was brought late and after the sushi (rolls missing) arrived and half finished. The bill still was not brought for 15 min, so i went to the counter to pay and still had to wait while I stood there. Another customer came up behind me for the same reason, not wanting to wait at the table to pay the bill. They are prioritizing take out over patrons. Very disappointing. understaffed and subsequently abusive to the employees and patrons alike. No one was managing, which is either non existent or clueless. Have been coming here 20+ years but now something is wrong which falls on the owner. tick-tock how much longer will this place survive with this model....$144 for 3 people. read more

The sushi was ok, but the service was terrible. The serving staff took a long time to greet us and even longer to take our order, even though there were only a few other people eating there. Very Disappointing. Went here before planning to see a movie next door, left 1:15 to eat. Got there, stood a the door for a few minutes before being noticed, and then we were seated. Sat for about 5 minutes before getting menus from a lady busing tables. About 5 min after that, flagged down one of the waitresses to place our drink order. Placed our order a few minutes later (not much, soup and salad, and 3 rolls for 2 of us). Then, we waited. There were 3 guys making sushi, and it just seemed like they couldn't keep up. With about 10 min (over a half hour after ordering) to go until the movie I mentioned that we had to get to a movie and they said it would be right up, and I asked for the check to get that out of the way. With just a minute or two to go we got the check and told them to pack our food to go when it was done. About 5 min after our movie was supposed to start we got a bag of sushi, put it in the car and went to the movie. After getting home, opened up the bag (I was a little leery about how it would be, but it was sub-freezing in the car). We were missing one of the rolls that we ordered and one of the rolls had 4 pieces (not sure if that's normal, but it didn't seem like much). Very disappointed overall. They seemed like they'd never had a full restaurant (not even completely full); not enough waitresses, hostess couldn't keep up, couldn't make sushi fast enough, etc. The Oak Park location is one of our favorites and we go there a lot, but we won't be going here again. read more
