We stopped in for dinner one evening and planned on having a quick meal. Things started off well but after we ordered we sat and sat and SAT while they prepared our food. It was a bit odd because the place was not overly crowded (on a week night) but it took an inordinately long time to get our food. The food itself was fine. Not amazing, not terrible, just fine. We went here for a quick lunch while out on a shopping spree. It was the closest sushi place to where we were when hunger struck so we decided to give it a try. When we walked in the floor was dirty and the place was giving off mild discoteca vibes but the place was pretty busy so we decided to grab a table and give it a go. We couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. The sushi was a home run. A+! All staff we interacted with were kind and radiating positive, happy go-lucky vibes. We were provided with complimentary edamame while we waited for our sushi rolls too! Such a nice surprise. Now, the sushi. We ordered two vegetarian rolls and two specialty rolls. We both had water and the total cost before tip was about $57. Well worth it. They did not skimp on ingredients and these were saucy and big, fat rolls. Made to perfection. My goodness are we glad we stayed and dined here. They also have all you can eat lunch and dinner options but the only sushi on the all you can eat menu are nigiri style (non-rice rolls). We were a hungry party of four on a Sunday evening looking for satisfaction in the form of AYCE sushi & apps. Honkaku was over the top good. A few fried apps (crab Rangoon, oysters, soft shell crab) and a few healthy (seaweed salad, house salad, yakatori, shumai.) The shumai was served cold. 2nd time reviewing Honkaku on Yelp. 1st time Dec 2022. I wish I had friends who liked karaoke, because I would be here every weekend! YES, Honkaku has KARAOKE. You can call and reserve their karaoke room. So so fun and I love hearing people having fun when I'm there (it's not loud, but you can faintly hear it if you're seated close enough). We have come here many times and love the AYCE. Truly great sushi for the price (~$35 a person). Love all the variety you can pick from. The service is awesome and the manager is truly a GEM. Some of my favorite speciality rolls: Green Turtle, Mexican, and the Spicy Tuna. My husband said he would take a bullet for the Dynamite roll, so take that as you will lol. I thought it was too sweet for me. I'd rather come here than drop +$100 at some overrated St Charles sushi bar that has $20 rolls. Like, this is such an amazing deal and the sushi is so solid. Let's be real: we're in the northwest suburbs people. Chicagoland has limited spots with fish so fresh it waves a fin at you, so I'll happily scoot my way to Honkaku any day for the price, service, and quality. All you can eat sushi for $34 dinner price, not too bad. We tried a few appetizers, nothing special skip the Fried calamari not what you expect. The sushi wasn't bad just wasn't the sushi experience I had a taste for. The best roll we tried was the spicy 2 in 1, very fresh. We sat outside because it was a nice day, our waitress was very attentive never forgot about us. The cocktails were the star of the show, I had a lychee martini made perfectly. The manager was completely disrespectful and lied to our face about splitting the checks. I've come here quite a few times and I'll probably update this review at some point with photos. The place is nicely decorated and the service is alright. The food is amazing! If you're looking for faster service I don't recommend going on the weekends or later at night. Other wise you'll be waiting a while! I recommend getting the all you can eat if you're by yourself or in a party of two. Otherwise you're paying over $100 for food that will be under $100. I can't review the drinks personally as I'm under 21 but, my family has ordered some and they claim it is quite good. Watered down sometimes but, good. Edit: I would like to add that I started coming here when the all you can eat was around $25 per person and they have updated it to be around $35 per person due to inflation! ‼TIP:: Remember not to over order and just order as you go. Really good AYCE sushi! Went with a large group of us for a friend's birthday and the servers were extremely helpful with us! It did take a while to receive everyone's appetizers and sushi because of different orders, but it was worth while. We also had sake and Sapporo throughout our meals. We really enjoyed the crab rangoons - really crispy!! The sushi was also delicious and some of them had jalapeños which the heat really added up! Never again... I hate to be that guy, but I can't give this place more than 2 stars. I know you can't expect to fill up on mostly fish from AYCE places, but this place ventures into uncharted territory (or at least for an AYCE place in the suburbs) when it comes to adding an INSULTING amount of rice in their sushi. I'll let the pictures do most of the talking, but seriously, I felt like eating 2-3 pieces of nigiri was like eating 1 sushi roll from literally any other restaurant in terms of the amount of rice I was consuming. I asked my server if the amount of rice I got was normal, and he said that it was and that they purposefully weigh out each piece of nigiri to have a certain weight of rice. What kind of sushi restaurant does that?? To add insult to injury, the rolls were decently packed with rice too. The only few things which save this place from a one star from me are their selection of more expensive AYCE appetizers like soft shell crab and sashimi salad as well as my server during my visit. We have been in many Japanese restaurant for sushis. We decided to check this restaurant out after q long working week. You do 2 way, order from the menus or buffet. We decided to tryout the buffet and it is $27.99 per person. I was stung about their sushis, the rice wasn't fully cook, the sushis has thick layer of rice. That made we think it's not Japanese chef made sushis, it's someone who tried to replicate Japanese sushis. On the other hand, $27.99 buffet per person was not bad at all. Each sushi roll come with 6-8 slices. But there is a $1 fees for every slice that you leftovers. read more

I recently ordered sushi for delivery. I was quoted 40-60 minutes for the delivery of my order. After 80 minutes, I called the restaurant to check on my order because I still had not received it, and the person who answered the phone said it would be ready and delivered "soon" and that he would call when the food left the restaurant. He explained that they were very busy. After 110 minutes, I called again because I had not heard from the restaurant and he said it was "in his hands and being sent now" ... that was true because I received it 10 minutes later. I don't live far from the restaurant and 10 minutes is about right for the amount of time it would take for the delivery. Separately, I had the delivery driver from GrubHub texting me to complain the restaurant was not being responsive to his inquiries about when the food would be ready and that they were telling him the food would be ready "soon" as well. I had to play the "third party" in this exchange and my order was over an hour late. The food I ordered was good (miso soup, spicy tuna roll, fire dragon roll), but I will not order for delivery again. read more

****RECOMMEND**** I'm a sushi newbie - but my tastebuds aren't! My 'buds know who brings on the yum - and this time it was Honkaku Sushi. SERVICE: Hostess was sweet, friendly and took time to explain in great detail the "All You Can Eat" deal. She said their sushi is always fresh and made-to-order (no conveyor belt!). Our actual waitress was sweet and PATIENT - we were snails on Xanax while deciding what to get. The bartender stopped by to see how I liked my Icy Pear Martini (tasty and strong, btw). He recommended I try the Lychee one next time. On our way out, he came up to us and shook our hands and said, "see you tomorrow." That's exactly what they say at Good Tequila's restaurant (it's in the same parking lot as Honkaku). I wonder if he used to work there?? Such a nice guy! "ALL YOU CAN EAT": AYCE is where it's at. The AYCE Dinner is $24.95 and Lunch is $18.95. Order whatever you want off of the AYCE menu (basically every roll and appetizer on their regular menu), you can mix and match pieces, rolls, appetizers...whatever you want. If you normally can handle 2 specialty rolls, you're better off doing the AYCE than paying for 2 individual rolls. It comes to about the same price as AYCE, but you get more bang for your buck and more variety with AYCE. AYCE TIP: Don't go crazy and order TOO many items right off the bat, thinking you can just toss the extras or take them home without being charged. WHY? If you don't finish MORE THAN HALF of any roll, you will be charged an extra $1.00 per piece left over. Have fun, but don't overdo it or you'll pay - literally. FOOD: The 'Dynamite' appetizer was good - but spicy (well, for me anyway). The 'Green Turtle' and 'Dynamite' rolls were freaking delicious! Literally W.O.W. We also loved the Sapporo and Snow Mountain rolls. So, after one appetizer and almost 4 rolls, our seams were bursting. We only had 4 pieces left, so we didn't have to pay the extra $1/piece. Phew! If I'd eaten 1 less piece, I would have had another $5 tacked onto my bill. Eek. But, I get why they do it this way... COST: Before our 15% off coupon, I think our total price was about $60, minus tip. That was for 2 AYCE meals, one $9 martini and one Mountain Dew (with 4 sushi pieces to take home). ATMOSPHERE: Contemporary and clean. Cozy - decorated for Christmas. I also love their presentation of sushi rolls. If your group orders a LOT of sushi, it comes out on big wooden boat. Our 3 rolls came out on a platter with a flower/tree (?) affixed to it. We felt very "at home" here and will definitely return soon! *****UPDATE****** Mind blown. Honkaku was appreciative of my good review and they went out of their way to show me. My husband, son and I went back, and they gave us, not 1, but 2 free desserts. Both the mochi and the tempura banana & Oreos were both delicious!! They also gave my son some lychees to sample, since he'd never heard of them before. So, I wanted to extend a THANK YOU for such classy and generous service! The all you can eat has a huge selection, however it took a long time to get, like 6 people back there but took forever and the first time we were missing rolls. We did the dinner all you can eat sushi and I was very impressed by the sushi, nigiri, and appetizer options. They don't mess up the portions of rice/fish. A lot of places do that to fill ya up but this restaurant does not. The staff was also very kind and they did well at adapting to the current pandemic.
