Came by on a weekday evening and was seated right away. Every table has an iPad that lets you order at your own pace, which I loved. Everything had photos and descriptions, and I'm definitely someone who appreciates being able to actually see what I'm ordering! We ordered the salmon nigiri, trout nigiri, and toro nigiri, and they were all absolutely delicious. The fish was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and practically melted in your mouth. I think we made the mistake of ordering way too much American sushi. Everything was not bad, but just started to taste like variations of california roll. My favorite roll was probably the rainbow roll which had the most amount of raw fish, and the oysters were pretty solid too. Solid spot, not sure how much is different from the previous sushi spot "Kinjo" Strip mall, parking can be tight on weekends. This is a convenient location with a plethora of Asian restaurants / milk tea place in this plaza & across the street. Sushi was yummy, I ordered the Double Toro Roll, Sunshine Roll, Golden Gate Roll. I would get the Toro $21.49 & Golden Gate $ 14.99 Roll again. Cuts of Sashimi taste fresh, rice was good, there's a light acidic umami taste to the rolls I enjoy. Portion wise, raw fish per piece of each sushi roll is average with other sushi restaurants , but I'd prefer a slightly thicker piece of sashimi e.g Sendai's rolls. Service was just okay and could be improved. I saw other customers also try to get the servers attention. Each table gets an iPad to order now. This is handy but even when I was there and clicked the call server 2 times, no one came. Understandable because only 1 server was handling tables while the 2nd server was scooping rice bowls, putting dishes away, making salads. Maybe try to come early or later because you have to wait for a table during peak dinner time, even on a weekday when I went. There are tables and several booths for seating. She efficiently explained that we ordered off the iPad, and pointed out the weekday deals (BOGO oysters and warriors roll). Our water/tea was never too low for long. But we are here now, so I had to try it as well. You order on the iPad so it's hard to post menu photos, but if you click order online for pickup/delivery, you can see the menu and description included as well as a photo of the dish. We got the double toro, mango tuna, and the sunshine roll. Loved all 3 rolls! The hamachi carpaccio was my least favorite, it was very basic and it didnt seem like carpaccio at all. They had cute plates and utensils and the decoration inside was very nice as well. It was just a little cramped. Best value to come M-Thur! Their buy one get one oyster is great deal, $10 for 6, they have sauce, scallions, tobiko, and the oysters are fat and medium size. They also have the Warriors Roll buy 1 got 1 free, so literally under $10 per roll. We also tried other rolls, fried squid tentacles, fried soft shell crabs, chicken karaage, unagi don set, and a sake steamed clam soup. I like the Hokkaido Scallop Roll, fresh. The Warriors Roll is also good, it has the right amount of ingredients against the rice, despite it's on sale. All their fried items are good as they are freshly made and the oil feels new, not stale. And you can request them to cut up the fried crab so not to destroy the pretty plating but also easy to share. The Rainbow Roll and Mango Tuna Rolls are ok but I'm not a fan. I didn't like the Sake Steamed Clams the most. The clams were great, just the soup had too much ginger and not a balanced clam flavor. We tried the mango nigori sake, not good, tastes just like mango juice, too sweet and thick. The setting is clean and comfortable with 6 people on a long booth seat. Service is friendly, slightly slow in bringing drinks when we ordered hot tea and other beverages. It's hard for big parties, I know, as we shared food and ask for additional bowls and cups. Every photo of their food on Yelp looked beautiful and they definitely lived up to our expectations! They're located right by the busy intersection of Dixon Landing / Milpitas Blvd. We came in for a Friday dinner shortly after 5pm and were met without a wait, though it seemed to get much busier closer to 6:30-7pm. The space here is beautiful. You can tell that they were very intentional with how the restaurant was decorated. I loved how light and spacious it felt. Ordering is done via an iPad, and our food came out very quickly after we sent our orders in. As for what we got: + Omakase (9pc) ($50): Delicious! The fish tasted fresh. I think the only piece that I didn't love was the squid, and TBH the rice... the rice was a bit dry. On the bright side, presentation was beautiful! + Sashimi Box (18pc) ($52): I'd keep in mind that the fish selection is essentially the same as the omakase; had I realized this, I'd probably go for a roll next time lol. + Spicy Scallop Handroll ($8.50): A lil bit too much spicy mayo tbh, but the scallop tasted fresh and the handroll was well constructed! + Salmon Skin Handroll: LOOOOVE me a good salmon skin roll. So kind of mixed feelings here because the food was really good, but the service was kinda bad (mostly because of understaffing). I was a walk in and put my name down for a table of 3 and it looked like I was maybe the 5th or so party on the list but it took like 45 minutes to get off the list and get seated. I appreciate that they use a tablet system to place food orders, but even taking that task off the plates of the servers only helped so much. Our food also took a little while to arrive, with the sashimi box taking the longest and the other rolls & apps arriving much sooner. The quality of the fish was good overall and everything we had was very tasty. You can order fresh pickled wasabi here, which is something I've never had before but really enjoyed. The seafood here was so fresh and everything left me wanting more! I came with my friends on a Friday night around 9:30 PM and were able to get seated right away. I got the Double Toro Roll which was so good! I'm not the biggest fan of wasabi, but the fresh wasabi complimented the roll really well. In addition, I got the Deluxe Chirashi which had a good variation of seafood including uni, sweet shrimp, salmon, scallops, etc. I am a scallop and toro lover and was really satisfied with the quality of the sashimi :) The owners were so friendly and constantly made sure everything was up to par, making our experience one of the best. Interior decor was stunning, everything is brand new and reminiscent of Japan. I enjoyed the interior design and was very well lit. Onto the food review, the rolls first! Double Toro - 8.33/10 Sunshine - 8/10 Monster - 7/10 The double toro had excellent flavor topped with real wasabi. It has fatty tuna and salmon belly and a plethora of cucumber. I wish they had some other ingredients but they really do load up on the cucumber if that's what you like. This is most notably their most popular posted item, which is a good item, but not necessarily a "oh wow I HAVE to get this everytime I come" type of dish The sunshine roll was excellent addition as it is a crispier and crunchier roll that helps balance out the raw fish of the other dishes. Excellent option for a nice palate cleanser. The roll was HUGE, when it came out I was quite surprised and had to take a photo just to compare with my arm as a benchmark because normal photos did not do it justice . Monster roll was good, but it could not compete against the other two rolls as we ended up order another Sunshine and Double Toro in the second round. Most notably for the monster roll is that they included asparagus which was refreshing considering most rolls don't include that ingredient so, nice change of pace. We also ordered nigiri, most notably the salmon, tuna, and scallop. We also ordered the chefs recommended nigiri which they advised us to try as well. Overall the nigiri slices were fat! However the flavor wasn't anything special. Overall I would give the sashimi 8/10 as it was good not but out of this world, and they did put in some effort in presentation. All in all very solid sushi place if you are located near the area. It's position in the current market for sushi restaurants is strong albeit not the leader... (at this time) They do have opportunities to differentiate and create a signature item to truly elevate it to the next level to retain their customers for the future. read more

Friday night and my friends got a table before I got there so I didn't have to wait. There was a group of a few people waiting outside already though and I felt it was early for dinner. The restaurant felt on the smaller side but it was ok for a sushi spot. The parking situation was also ok. It was a small parking lot compared to to all they have to offer around the area, but just drive a loop and there will be someone pulling off, especially if they're just picking up orders for delivery or grabbing a quick boba drink. There's like 3 of them around so people are always coming and going. The service was spot on, I feel like as soon as I had an empty bowl or an empty plate, it was picked up right away (I love that) and my cup of water is filled pretty quickly once I drink it. Keep in mind this is a busy Friday night so they're packed and still pretty attentive, considering you're ordering off an iPad. Our food came out in good time. We got 5 rolls and they all came out at once. Look, I'm a sucker for A5 Wagyu so we got that roll and it was easily my favorite. I know I know I know, beef on sushi sounds weird or downright wrong, but you cannot go wrong with A5 and truffle mushroom. The Salmon Lover roll was my 2nd favorite because of the garlic chili oil topping. There was nothing spicy about it, but to me, it made the sushi flavor that much better. Double toro comes next. I'm not a wasabi fan so we asked for wasabi on the side instead of inside. We still got a hint of wasabi BUT honestly it's not a double toro without it. The Triple S ranked after, and then the lion king roll, but I only because these were basic rolls we can get anywhere else. That being said, the fish quality was good, coupled with great service. I've seen this place go through some renames and I don't know if this is new or not. Came here with a group of 6 (~15% service charge for parties of 6 or more) and got seated quickly. The interior was nice and the service was also nice, however, they seemed a bit cluttered as it took a bit to get the check after requesting for it. We got the Warriors Roll, Salmon Lovers roll, and Triple S roll, with my favorite being the Triple S roll. Very fresh fish that melts in your mouth and the tempura shrimp in the roll was delicious. My only complaints would be that the prices are a little bit high (in my opinion but maybe b/c the fish was pretty fresh) and that I saw a spider on the wall, which doesn't really bother me but it might bother others. Had such a great experience at Sushi Umami! Everything from the food to the service was on point. The fish was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and just overall delicious. Service was very attentive and friendly, and our food came out surprisingly fast which made the whole experience even better. The rolls were definitely the highlight. The Sunshine Roll was amazing -- soft shell crab with different fish like salmon, tuna, and hamachi. It had so many great textures and the sauce on top was sooo good. The Double Toro Roll was another standout. Super fresh, rich toro and it even had salmon belly inside which made it extra buttery and delicious. We also tried the Hamachi Truffle Crudo and wow... you can really taste the truffle, but it doesn't overpower the simplicity and freshness of the hamachi. Such a great balance of flavors. The Agedashi Tofu was light and crispy and soaked up the bonito sauce perfectly with the grated radish -- simple but done really well. Also had the Unagi Bento Box which was great and very satisfying. Overall everything was fresh, flavorful, and came out quickly with great service. Wow they really renovated the space and made it look nice inside! It didn't feel like I was in a plaza in Milpitas. I liked that we could just easily order from the tablet & the presentation of the food was very nice. Amongst 3 people, we got a couple of small appetizers and two rolls to share and as well as the little sea urchin/fish roe/amaebi bowl. I would say everything was a pretty good size and quality was pretty high for the pricepoint. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. My favorites were the bowl and the sunshine roll. Came in on a very busy Friday evening. There was no staff at the front again. And it took a while to flag down anyone. There was a clipboard underneath a tablet, both looked like they were used for getting on the waitlist. But none of the guests waiting knew what was going on. When a staff member finally came over to help with the waitlist, she used the tablet, but gave me a reservation for that very instance instead of a waitlist number and I only found out after waiting 20 minutes that I wasn't going to be called because I wasn't on the waitlist. She cleared it up quickly and gave me a table in about 5 min of clearing things up with her and as a reservation. The couple waiting behind me did not know what to do, I checked in via tablet so they waited to get on the tablet, but the same staff told them to write their names down on the clipboard, but someone had already written their names ahead of the couple. The couple looked pretty upset. The staff member was not friendly or understanding at all. It was a confusing situation for guests and staff took a long time to take in and organize one cohesive waitlist. The restaurant inside still looked pretty new. Order is still but tablet at the table and payment is by calling over a server. Once my order was placed thru the tablet it wears more efficient. The plates came out within 5-10 minutes. Toro isn't something I normally order but tried the Double Toro roll since it was a popular dish. It was actually good and balanced well with the wasabi and greens on top. The caterpillar and rainbow rolls were standard. The nigiri was nicely cut and prepped. I also had chicken cartilage and fried squid tentacles, those were also very good. Food is good here. The rice in every dish tasted dry and chalky, and almost every roll was overloaded with cucumber, which overpowered the fish.
