Love the Taishoken in San Mateo and was so excited to find one in Milpitas! Came in on a Sunday night around 7pm and got seated right away. All the staff that we interacted with were really nice, but Vivian was awesome. She was friendly, professional and just had great energy. I always order Mazesoba when I visit Taishoken and it was great as usual - hot, gooey and umami. 10/10 forever a fan.

Got the Tokusei Tsukemen as the entree and takoyaki as an appetizer. Both were incredible! To start off with the Tsukemen is what they specialize in, the thick noodle was chewy and the soup clung onto the noodle perfectly. The two different pork slices were extremely tender and the egg was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The broth was wonderful as well, as it was tasty and not too salty. Adding chili powder to it made it perfect! As for the takoyaki, it was topped with what I believe was egg salad which is not something I have seen before but was incredible! The takoyaki itself was cooked well and there were good pieces of octopus inside and the egg salad was also delicious even on its own! Staff were very attentive and helpful, giving us recommendations and refilling our waters quickly. We were also greeted upon entering and as we were leaving. I would love to come back and try more of their menu :) Thanks for the wonderful experience!

Get on the Yelp waitlist before you arrive! I am always craving ramen and I was not sure how this one didn't hit my radar for so long. Decor is nice and clean. Lot of the natural wood color which seems to be the contemporary choice of decor these days. We got all our usual favorites.. Tori chintan ramen- 4.5/5- very light and refreshing broth. Not a great depth of flavor but whatever it had was sufficient for me. Chicken seemed to be roasted and was beautifully cooked without any funky taste or smell. This is easily the best version of chicken I had among all the chicken ramen bowls I had so far. Came with an egg which had a wonderful jammy center. Toppings were onions and a roasted slice of tomato. Seemed unconventional for me but delicious nonetheless. Chicken karaage-2.5/5- weakest chicken karaage I had in a Japanese restaurant, the batter was clumped in places and weakly hung onto the meat. The meat was suspiciously undercooked. Kids curry chicken plate-3.5/5- wonderful curry. This came with some sticky rice and the same chicken karaage. The rice and curry combo was delectable, the karaage weakened the dish. Niki spicy ramen- 4.5/5- my husband got this one and he enjoyed it. He commented it was one of the better ramen bowls he had in a while though not the very best. Great depth of flavor and perfect aldente noodles.

Wanted to try some place new before going to the Great Mall and this spot happened to have a kids meal. Unfortunately my toddler was not that hungry so I cannot give her perspective. Looks wise, I thought it was pretty appealing. I got the dipping ramen. I had never tried it before. The broth was very flavorful. Personally I prefer a regular ramen but Im glad I was able the experience something new. My husband finished his bowl quickly. Overall, we enjoy our time here. Service was great. I think I'll have to come back to try their soda floats. They looked pretty good.

Service 5/5 Clean 5/5 Kids ramen 4/5 broth is very thick, noodle is very generous Dip noodle 4/5, soba was very hard to break off. Ramen 4/5, broth is very thick, leaving a sticky lip feel, ramen was generous. Go support their business.

Food 4/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 5/5 Came on a Friday 5:30 pm, was able to get a table quickly for 2. Service and servers were very informative and nice. We enjoyed every dish. Very nice portion on happy hour menu too. Can't go wrong ordering anything here.

I must admit I'm not really a dipping noodles gal but then this changed my mind! My other experiences with dipping ramen has been too too salty. Here I asked if I could adjust the saltiness and they were able to make it less salty and it was PERFECT! The noodles were super bouncy. Then at the end they added broth to it and it was so tasty! Definitely recommend! Nice interior, and in this huge plaza with lots of parking.

No wait on Sat 4pm. HH 3-6 pm. noodle texture is not my type, they were quite hard to chew and seemed undercooked to me. I tried the Tori Chintan Ramen (Chicken Ramen). The chicken and kombu broth was light, quite bland. It's tasted like something I would eat when I'm sick. Tokusei Ramen with pork chashu and egg, was better, overall it was just okay, nothing so great. One thing that caught my attention was the happy hour karaage : $5 for 4 pieces or $10 for 7 pieces, double the price doesn't double the portion.

We came here around opening for dinner on Father's day. They have a happy hour menu on weekdays and weekends which is very nice! The service was good and attentive. The appetizer we got was the chicken larvae and takoyaki and both were solid good food. I got the spicy niku ramen with the spice on the side so I can add as much as I wanted. We also got the normal ramen which was good too. The chashu pork is what made the ramen stand out the most as it was really good. We also got the tsukemen ramen (not pictured) which is what they are known for. Good food and service altogether!

We initially planned on grabbing malatang, but the line was far too long. Wifey was craving ramen, and Taishoken saved the day. While the kids still got a classic ramen, we adults went adventurous with soup-less ramen. Food (4 stars) + Mazesoba soup-less ramen was good but not as impressive as their other soup-less option. The egg that you mix in upon arrival gave it a carbonara vibe, and the chashu was tasty. There were lots of bamboo shoots that I originally thought were mushrooms. The sauce/seasoning of the ramen has a bit fishy flavor, which my wife didn't love, but still pretty good. I actually prefer the other soup-less ramen. - Chicken karaage (small order, $7) had a light batter and was freshly cooked. Standard, but enjoyable. Service/Ambiance (same as before) + Service remained excellent, with the waitress explaining dishes in detail. + The food came out incredibly fast--kid's ramen was like instantly, appetizer in about 3 minutes, and entrées in less than 10 minutes. + The ambiance still evokes a warm, Japanese feel.

    SAND STORM CALAMARI

Came in as a party of 2 for an early lunch right when the restaurant opened. There was plenty of parking out in the front lot. We were seated right away and the service was quick! Sandstorm Calamari: 10/10 Highly recommend this appetizer!! The calamari was super crispy and fresh. It paired perfectly with the mayo sauce on the side. The best part was definitely the garlic/chili crisp which they gave a generous amount of. I could eat it by the spoonful! Spicy tsukemen: 6/10 I loooove tsukemen and I have gone to Tsujita in LA & SGV many times, so I was excited to finally try a new dipping ramen place! However the spicy tsukemen unfortunately did not live up to my expectations I would say the spice level is at a medium, so this is a warning to those who are unable to tolerate spice. The noodles were super slippery so it made it hard to eat with chopsticks, especially having to dip it into the broth, so we ended up asking for forks lol. The broth was also not as thick as I would've liked, so I felt like the noodles weren't really able to pick up the flavor from the broth. The pork belly and meat toppings were delicious though!

I got the Tonkatsu Ramen with a less salty broth and my friends got the regular broth. With the less salty broth, you can tell it's diluted but the flavor still remains. The regular broth keeps it creamy. Both are savory. Noodles are soft and well-cooked, love how the meat is balanced with the fatty parts, and toppings are well-proportioned to the noodles.

In terms of price, this place is very affordable, with each bowl costing under $20, which is not expensive. The only downside is that the space inside is quite small, so you may have to wait if it gets crowded. However, overall the restaurant is very clean, the broth is solid, and the thick noodles have a great chewy texture. Next time, I'll probably try the thin noodles. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys ramen. Overall rating: 4.5 out of 5.

It was probably because we arrived kind of later than we normally do, so the lunch rush was probably already gone. Nonetheless, we grabbed a table after placing our order. They use an oil hot sauce, which my son and I prefer, over the powdered type other Ramen places use. The oil is spicier than the powder. My wife enjoys their Hawaiian dishes. She also prefers their mini size, since the regular size is too much. Her chicken was cooked nicely and she enjoys their Katsu sauce. Our service was quick and the staff are always friendly.
