So, we went here finally and I got to try it. As far as grilling meat, it's the same as any other grills out there. The meats are sliced too thin to really taste any difference (if any). Came to Sea Wagyu House for dad's birthday dinner and it was decent! Located off E Calaveras in the same plaza as El Torito, Sea Wagyu House has replaced the old Red Lobster. This place serves premium wagyu over a fire grill along with self-serve sushi... and fruit crepes for dessert! Our party of 5 were able to set a reservation for a Friday evening through Yelp and were actually surprised to be immediately seated at our preferred time. I guess the hype has died down enough that we didn't have to wait long! While waiting, the SO ordered cocktails for himself and my dad. They got the Mai Tai and Ube Colada. The ube colada tasted creamy/vanilla-y and was tasty. The mai tai might have actually been a lemon drop (?) because it didn't look nor taste anything like a standard mai tai. The inside is decked out with a faux flower backdrop with neon lights, and 3 or 4 big tv screens playing a roaring fireplace on loop. There's a main buffet area that includes sushi, sides for the grilled meats, sauces, and fresh fruit. The table we sat at could have fit 4 more people at the end, with only one grill at the other end. I thought this format was strange and should have been re-worked during construction. How would the people at the other end cook their meat? A lot of responsibility for the few in front of the grill to cook and distribute the food. Our party went with the Gold tier, which includes 4 additional wagyu options and a seafood platter consisting of scallops, oysters (HUGE), and clams. We were also able to order anything from the Silver tier. All the meat was pretty standard. Highlights were the pork jowl, beef tongue and finger meat. They had lamb on the menu, but actually don't carry it anymore. I liked the giant oysters. The sushi was pretty good, but I hated the plates they were on for being hella clunky. I could probably grab 4 at a time if I didn't want to stack them. The SO loved the chicken karaage, veggie tempura, and sesame noodles. The crepes at the end were fine, but could have been better with ice cream :) Lucy was our main server and she was great (MVP status)! Since we were seated in the backrooms (!!), she allowed us to place sushi orders so we didn't have to keep getting up to grab the plates in the main dining area. Something like that I'm always a little wary of the quality of AYCE sushi, but fish here did taste very fresh. I like how they serve smaller portion sizes for both the sushi buffet side and for the meats, we were able to try more that way. The grill here also is amazing, somehow it never got burned and we never needed a grill change. The service was also impeccable, we got checked up on very frequently and food came out fast. Came here on a Sunday evening and, overall, it was okay, a bit underwhelming. We had a reservation for 7 PM but weren't seated until 7:48 PM. I think there could be some improvements to the waiting system, but I understand they're still in the grand-opening stage and things take time to settle. As for the food, I felt the meat portions were pretty small. The sushi selection also wasn't that great, and some of the fish looked like it had been sitting out for a while, some pieces were brown while others looked fine. I was also told there were no garlic pieces available to grill and that they didn't have daikon radish, although I had seen photos showing otherwise. Overall, everything was just okay. In my opinion, the Gold Tier isn't really worth it right now. It's too overwhelming going to the sushi/salad bar area for food, just for one piece of small bites of fish at a time. I was a bit skeptical coming here after reading mixed reviews, but as the newest AYCE BBQ and sushi spot in the Bay Area, I had to try it for myself! I went with the Silver Tier ($45/pp) and it was completely worth it. The quality of the meat was incredible-- tender, perfectly marbled, and actually tastes like real wagyu. Cooking on their wire grills gave everything a proper sear that really locked in the flavor. Our server Matthew provided exceptional hospitality and offered to cook for us, which elevated the entire dining experience! The sauce bar was also stacked with a great variety of options to customize your bites. That said, as a brand-new spot, there are definitely a few logistical quirks to keep in mind. We had a 5:30 PM reservation but were not seated until 6:00 PM, which was a bit frustrating. Luckily, their spacious waiting area offers free alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks while you wait. The biggest nuisance for me was the sushi setup. Having to physically get up and walk over to a self-serve sushi bar for tiny, bite-sized portions felt really inconvenient when you are in the middle of a hot grill meal. Additionally, tables only have one grill for a party of 6, making the cooking process drag out, and soft drinks do not come with free refills like most AYCE places. At the end of the day, the stellar food quality and amazing staff easily outshone the small first-month hiccups. There are lot of menu options(seafood, meats, appetizers) and we tried the GOLD sets. They did run out some stuff like the live clams and shishito peppers(I ordered shishito but got regular bell pepper slices instead (°A°`)) . My friends recommended trying this place for dinner so we all decided to try it out on a Friday night! They put their name down on the waitlist at 5:15 pm and we were told we might not be able to be seated because there's a lot of people but we ended up getting a text 30 mins later our table was ready so that was a bit strange. Once we got seated our server Kevin helped us and we decided to go with the gold tier ($58/pp) and got started with each of the Wagyu cuts + seafood tower. There was an unlimited bar for sauces, side dishes, fruits and sushi. The sushi bar was pretty fresh and they're quick to fill it up but I wished that they used less rice for their nigiri as I didn't want to fill up on it but the cuts of fish were better than the sashimi. The meats took a long time to come out! You only have 90 mins to dine in and you order your extra cuts through the QR code. The grill they use is kinda bad as there's only heat in the center and not throughout the grill so it took a long time to cook everything even the thin cut beef. I was definitely disappointed at the size of the appetizers and desserts and they limit you to 5 orders at a time on the app so we felt limited and only did like 4 rounds with 5 people. Each order came with 2-3 small cuts so you can imagine we went through it. Also, the photo is a bit deceiving on what you get. We order shishito peppers and got bell pepper and it was a bad cut. Ordered seafood pancake but it was only a small serving for one person. The fried banana photo looked like a deep fried banana and we received a pan fried banana. Even the desserts were small and the fried buns were so overcooked and it was hard. Finally got to try the premium Seapot, which is a place I enjoy because I think Seapot knows what it is and what it isn't. I think Sea Wagyu was interesting though because while it is advertised as wagyu - i'm not sure anything off the Gold menu and definitely nothing on the Silver menu was truly wagyu (or even american wagyu). The meat was kind of tough, and I wasn't a huge fan of the banchan they had available. The sushi was a bit random too, but I did enjoy that - although, all of the sushi had fairly strong yuzu/citrus flavor which I could do without - but you may like that! I did really enjoy the breadth of sauces they had available though, especially the peanut sauce! More places should offer a peanut sauce, it was amazing with the meat! Our party was a little confused on how to cook the seafood platter that came with the Gold menu though, but luckily the staff was really kind and helped us cook it - they basically took over which was honestly appreciated - I don't often have seafood at bbq spots. It's a good thing too because i very nearly ate the seafood raw, which could have ended poorly. While it is AYCE too, you're only allowed to order a few plates of meat a time every 10 minutes. We opted for the lowest tier ($45 per person) and it sufficed. The sushi was fresh and the tuna tasted the best. The way they plate them individually looked nice but it also seemed like such a waste of plates. It was also a bit difficult to carry more than 2 at a time back to the table. The grill cooked the meat rather quickly and any of the fattier meats would go up in flames and char once the fat hit the grill. I'd recommend cooking the fattier meats on the outer edge of the grill. The meat itself was not always tender and sometimes took effort to chew. The crepes were soft and the perfect size for a small dessert. Their ordering system on the app allows for 5 orders per 10 minutes and we found that the UI was rather finicky.The service was initially slow to begin but once the orders arrived, they came consistently. I like that the server can cook for you upon request. That being said, I thought the sushi was just ok. There is a diverse menu so there's something for everyone. There are no labels on the seafood so I have no idea what's what. I can see it's freshly made, but I had a few pieces that were on the fishy side. The meat itself is plain, even marinated ones. It's really hard to get a good char on the meat and I like it on the crisper side. Sides are casual snack food like fries and takoyaki. Seating is cozy and noise levels are ok. They play a lot of Kpop here. It's a good vibe but I wouldn't come just for the food. Also, it's 5 plates every 10 mins regardless of party size. I had no idea this was the sister restaurant to Seapot, which was a huge surprise since my last experience at Seapot wasn't the best. However, this place is a night-and-day difference, and I am so glad it opened in Milpitas! They offer an online Yelp waitlist as well as a check-in tablet at the door. I highly recommend getting here early, as I arrived 10 minutes before opening and there was already a line. The staff was incredibly friendly and greeted everyone with a smile. I was in a party of two, and even with seven groups ahead of us, we were seated immediately. Our waiter was very helpful, showing us how to use the tablet to order and explaining the rules on how much meat we could request per round. The food itself was fantastic. There were plenty of options at the sauce bar, but I absolutely loved their green sauce. It was unique and something I haven't seen at other all-you-can-eat spots before. The sushi was also super fresh, with the chefs preparing it right at the sushi bar, and I really liked the cute little cups they served it in. The meat quality was noticeably better than a lot of other places, and the options were plentiful even with delicacies that I've never seen other places offer. My only minor critique is that the restaurant is honestly pretty small, especially for a spot that is bound to get heavy foot traffic and long lines. Overall, it was a great experience. Complimentary alcohol while waiting was a nice touch since after we checked in for our reservation they had us sitting for about 20 mins extra before we got our table. I'm not a huge grilled big oyster fan. -Sushi portion the sashimi was decent. Same for the nigiri. Rolls were basic, I opt out after the first one to avoid getting full. I came a couple weekends ago at 3pm and there was about a 30 min line. They roughly quoted 1 hr via the Yelp waitlist estimate, so we're happy that we didn't actually need to wait that long. First impression : very interesting interior design. It didn't feel like a restaurant. Lots of empty spaces in the center so something feels missing. Layout was a bit misleading - it looks like it's a small restaurant, but there are so many sections within the restaurant (and room for big parties). Instead of normal dining chairs, they utilized lounge chairs, which I thought was pretty unique and smart because I saw many kids just sharing the couch. This place is definitely the most ideal choice for big parties. Most tables can easily fit 5-6 people, but there were lots of tables that could fit 7-9 people, or even more if there's kids. Food was not bad. There could be more dessert options, but their choice of fruits were excellent. For some reason, all their strawberries looked perfect (and it actually tasted good). As for the seafood, there's a good amount of nigiri for self service. The live clam that came with our seafood platter was great. I didn't realize they had someone helping with the cooking until the girl stopped by with the torch after she noticed us trying to grill the scallop. I tried their beef bone soup. Had a 9:30pm reservation and did not get seated until about 25 minutes later because they said there was 6 parties ahead of us and a reservation does not get you seated right away and that online it says you may have to wait during rush hour so honestly just join the waitlist if it's still open to get seated lol bc we were disappointed when we got there. They have you do your initial meat order with a server to see what tier you want to do then you use a qr code to order 5 meats at a time and seafood plus appetizers buy only every 10 mins with the last order at 75 mins. There's the sushi bar, sauce bar, and sides which were all really yummy. There's most disappointing part was the grill and kbbq experience as a whole. They use a wire grill so it takes awhile for meat to cook and when the oils drip down it makes the fire get pretty big so lots of our food got burnt and overly charred or took awhile to cook since the short rib and beef fingers were on the thicker side. Honestly it was pretty scary bc you could get burned. Our server said to just cook the meat on the sides so the fire doesn't get too big but then the meat took extra long to cook. The meat is alright but they don't give you enough at one time, you will get one beef finger on the platter, three beef toro, two bulgogi, one pork belly, one short rib, three tiny pork jowl so you don't get your moneys worth with the meat unfortunately. Service here is nice and our waiter was really good and attentive. It's cool that it's open late but not really worth the money plus it gets so smoky and the little hood doesn't really work. Came on a Tuesday night around 7 ish, wait was about 45-50 minutes but heyyy they have complementary alcohol and non-alcoholic drink while you wait. You can also walk around the plaza, there are a few shops around. Once we were seated, we headed for the buffet style sushi/sashimi. It was good! I really liked the white fish dishes (salmon was alright and I think one was sea snail? At least that's what the server told me). I wished they had labels so that I know what I'm getting. I think the white fishes were hamachi and some other white fish I can't identify. Good thing I don't have any allergies. We got the silver tier which was $45? We ordered a variety of items (premium ribeye steak, wagyu bulgogi, wagyu beef toro, etc.) meat quality was not bad! I enjoyed it! I liked that they have lettuce too! I like eating the meat and lettuce together. The mushroom soup was really salty by the way, but I like shiitake mushrooms so I ate those but couldn't drink the soup. I did wish the ventilation was a little bit stronger though, still saw smoke coming out so our eyes were a little bit dry and teary from the smoke. We made a 5pm reservation the day before on Yelp, which is always a nice to have for an AYCE restaurant like this. When we arrived, we were guided to the bar to wait while the table was getting set up. The bar had some beverage dispensers set up for you to serve yourself while waiting, which I thought was a great touch. After we got seated, we decided on the Gold menu, which had the addition of one platter of scallops, oysters, and clams. Note that everything is supposed to be cooked. Our server came by and torched our clams and oysters to help us speed up the cooking. The seafood was all very fresh, tender, and flavorful. From then, we went to the self serve buffet area, and it was sushi galore. Lots of different types of sashimi, nigiri, and rolls. I especially liked the sauce station where I could make my own concoction of sauces, as well as the side dish station, which included radish paper, cucumber kimchi, papaya salad, and lettuce. Great selection of items! For the actual BBQ, we ordered all the wagyu items we could via the QR code link. I think one of my favorites was the wagyu bulgogi? It was one of the thin ones that was already marinated. All the meats were quite tender and paired really well with the sauces. I liked that each order of meat was on the smaller side so that we could order a variety and get to get everything. I also enjoyed the various sides we could order, which included beef bone soup, kimchi pancake, takoyaki, etc. We ended our meal with a strawberry banana crepe and fried buns with condensed milk. These were all quite fresh and better quality than what I anticipated. We noticed at the end that in the beverage menu on the QR code link that certain house beverages (beer, wine, sake) were included in the AYCE menu! Our family of 4 decided to do diamond tier just to see what it was like even a few reviews warned against it. Some reviews recommended the gold tier since diamond 's extra serving of 4 types/pieces of A5 Wagyu, 1 piece of half small tail Lobster, 1 small abalone, and handful of not fresh clams are worth the extra $. The reviews were correct. We do not miss much without the named items from the diamond tier. The meat selection from Gold tier is decent. We got the Gold menu, which includes more Wagyu options along with scallops, oysters, and clams. A lot of AYCE BBQ places have good quality meats but the rest of the menu can be less memorable. This place does most things very well. There is a large waiting space at the front, and I can see it being useful since there is a wait on weekends if you don't have a reservation. They also have a small selection of free drinks available while you wait. You order by QR code every 10 minutes, which I love. It's much easier to keep ordering that way. The self-serve sushi and sashimi were great. There was a good sauce selection too, including a Thai chili sauce packed with chilis and garlic. Loved this sauce, good spice level. They also had a couple of salads, and the papaya salad was great. A couple fruit choices as well. The Wagyu grilled meats were great and the seafood tower was fresh. The staff helped us cook most of the seafood on the grill with a blowtorch, which was nice. The side dishes were also good. The takoyaki, fried donuts, and sesame balls all came out freshly fried, which is impressive for an AYCE place!! The beef bone soup was surprisingly good and the beef was tender. The seafood pancake was so good I ordered seconds. Even the dessert crepes were fantastic and not too sweet. The staff were great and quick to serve dishes. We stayed a little longer than the 90-minute limit, but they didn't rush us out at all. Fantastic AYCE BBQ. The quality of the sushi is top notch! Make a reservation if you want to bypass the long line. I showed up 30 minutes before opening and put my name down on the waitlist. Surprisingly, I got seated five minutes after they opened, but folks who came later had an estimated wait of 89+ minutes. We got the diamond and loved all of the seafood. We were a little bummed that the lobster was only a quarter slice instead of the typical half. The oysters were gigantic, I don't think I've ever had such huge and juicy ones before. Came to check out the hype. It was Thursday night and the whole place was fully booked from 530 to 830. We did waiting list online and we got table within 5 min. Lots of parking. Very spacious inside and that explain why it's hard to get table. Spacious as in the tables are very scattered. Spacing is Nice. There's a big bar at the front for people to hang out. Complimentary drinks at the bar which is nice. We got the silver menu. I must say the meat quality was so so. All taste like teriyaki or soy sauce based. The so called sashimi so tiny. Sushi is nice but in general the option overall is limited. Quite a few hot food options like udon and wings and tempura. Again. Nothing wow. The crepes for dessert is nice. Came on a Wednesday night right before opening, there's a good amount of people waiting for them to open for a table. If you do get there early they do have some drinks by the bar that you can drink while you wait for your table. It's all you can eat, the meats and sides you can order on the QR code and the sushi is all in the middle area where you can grab yourself along with a premade sauce bar. We did the diamond tier to get the full experience. If you do get the diamond tier, they cook the seafood platter for you. The Waygu meat cuts were very tender and buttery, melt in your mouth. The caviar is a little dab on a crepe cookie. It was good but wish it was more than just a little dab. We tried the garlic shrimp and it was already peeled which is good for those who don't like peeling. Scallops were also a good size. Overall, I would recommend coming to try. We had been waiting for this place to open for quite a while. Every time we drove by on our way to Safeway, Feng Cha, Jamba, and the other nearby shops, we'd see the sign and wonder when it would finally open. As soon as we heard it was open, we knew we had to check it out. It also happened to be my husband's 50th birthday, so it was the perfect occasion! I had read reviews saying it gets crowded early, but my husband thought those were probably referring to weekends, not a Thursday at 5:30 PM. We were definitely wrong. The restaurant opens at 5:00 PM, and the hostess told us people had already started lining up outside around 4:30! Since they have a 90-minute dining limit, she estimated our wait would be until around 7:00-7:30 PM. We put our name on the waitlist anyway and used the time to pick up his birthday cake and drop it off at home. On our way back, they called to let us know our table was ready. We happened to be only about a minute away, so the timing worked out perfectly. Parking fills up quickly, but there are plenty of additional spaces farther out if you don't mind a very short walk. When we checked back in, we waited a few minutes while our table was cleaned and reset. The front section had tables without grills and looked like more of a bar area. Toward the back were the tables with built-in grills. The front also had a large wall displaying a projected fireplace, which gave the restaurant a nice ambiance. Overall, the décor felt modern with a Japanese-inspired design. On the way to our table, we passed the open sushi/sashimi and fruit stations where everything looked incredibly fresh. Our waiter explained how the AYCE system worked. Everyone at the table has to order the same tier, and we decided on the Gold Tier so we could try more Wagyu selections and upgraded seafood options. Ordering was simple. You scan the QR code at your table and submit your order from your phone. Each round has limits on how many of each item you can order, which helps minimize waste. While waiting for our first round, we headed over to the sushi and sashimi bar. Everything looked fresh and beautifully presented. I really liked that each plate only had one or two servings, making it easy to sample lots of different items without wasting food. Everything we tried from the sushi bar was delicious. After that, we mixed our dipping sauces. My favorite combination was the ssamjang mixed with one of the sweet and spicy sauces. The rest of my family preferred the house sauce, and I especially liked the green sauce paired with the shrimp tempura. Our seafood arrived first. The oysters were huge, and the scallops were excellent. The clams were a bit hit-or-miss since some opened while others never did. Our waiter was very attentive and helped cook much of the seafood for us, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, my daughter didn't feel well after eating some of the seafood, so that was a bit disappointing. The Wagyu arrived shortly after, and this was definitely the highlight of the meal. Each cut was incredibly tender, and some practically melted in our mouths after just a quick sear on the grill. We also tried several appetizers. The takoyaki was excellent, crispy on the outside and soft and creamy inside. The shrimp tempura was crispy and paired perfectly with the green dipping sauce. The seafood pancake was surprisingly small, which actually worked out since it ended up being one of our least favorite dishes. We had a couple of exciting moments when the pork belly dripped enough fat onto the grill to create some impressive flames! Thankfully, it just added a nice char and sizzle to the pork without causing any problems. The drink menu had a nice variety, although I was a little disappointed to learn that sodas aren't refillable. Our waiter explained it's because they price the drinks lower than most restaurants. Thankfully, they continuously provided ice water in a chilled metal pitcher, which was much appreciated after sitting over the hot grill. To end the meal, we ordered the freshly made crepes. I chose the strawberry crepe, while my husband had the strawberry banana. Mine was light, fresh, and a delicious way to finish the meal. Overall, I would definitely recommend coming for the Wagyu. It was easily the standout of the evening, with several cuts that were exceptionally tender and flavorful. I wasn't as impressed with the seafood platters, especially compared to the meat selections. If I had to compare it with Wagyu Grill AYCE, I'd say this restaurant serves better Wagyu, but I still think Wagyu Grill has stronger side dishes and a more consistent overall selection. I'd come back again, and next time I may even try one of the other tiers to see if it changes my opinion. It's a fun dining experience, especially if you're a Wagyu lover, but I'd definitely recommend arriving well before opening if you want to avoid a long wait. read more
