The waitress seemed to hate her job, very short and brief. We felt rushed to leave from the moment we sat down. We ordered waters and a sakè. The initial waters she brought out were only half full with very minimal ice. She placed our soup on the table and spilled it everywhere and didn't apologize or clean it up. We ordered food from the (11-2) daily special menu, Didn't receive the special upon checkout. When I asked the waitress why I didn't receive the special she said I didn't ask for the right one. I ordered a vegas roll which is on the special menu already, but comes with two additional pieces of sushi. Then for dessert we aske for green tea ice cream and she said they had it. We were excited until the brought us Mochi (the doughy outside kind). The Lobster Bomb was fantastic And the Vegas roll was good but had some sort of chipotle sauce. Which we weren't exspecting. But wasn't horrible. The spicy tuna was good as well Overall the food was good, but very overpriced. Between the price and horrific service I wouldn't recommend this restaurant when sushi garden, shogun and sushi on cortaro are 1/3 the price and a much better experience and atmosphere then Sushi Valley. read more

This place is a bit odd in that the open sign was off and we got slow service... even though we were the only people there. It seemed as though a family was running the restaurant, but the two sons working there didn't seem to be interested JJ being there. The sushi was overpriced and average. This place is SO GOOD. I was so impressed with the rolls and the nigiri- huge portion sizes and SUCH friendly service. Wish we took pictures of the food but it was so good we didn't even think about it. Sushi Valley is 100% the BEST roll you can get in Tucson. The fish is fresh, and the sauce is amazing. Their sushi rice is delicious, the combination of Japanese rice, vinegar, and mirin is perfect. What impressing me the most is their creativity about rolls. Almost all their rolls are so special that you could hardly find them anywhere else. I would recommend the Pink Lady and the Sushi Valley Roll. We get the Pink Lady every time; it has tuna, yellowtail, salmon, and avocado. The Sushi Valley Roll includes shrimp tempura, cream cheese, avocado, spicy mayo, and eel sauce. It's incredibly flavorful and addictive for anyone who loves rolls. Yummy combinations. I had the Sushi Valley Roll which is allot of food. Added to that 2 orders of Unagi sashimi and 1 Albacore sashimi. Huge slices of meat on a small amount of rice. Who would have thought there would be such a great deal in Tucson of all places. Service was pretty fast though some later arrivals that were obviously friends of the owner were served first. A small, comfortable restaurant with fantastic food! The service was polite and quick, and it definitely seemed family owned and run. I ordered the Shrimp Tempura roll lunch special which included Salmon and Shrimp nigiri, a salad and miso soup. The miso was some of the best I've personally had, with good salty miso flavor and scallions. Next I ate the nigiri, the salmon was a highlight. I normally dont go in for nigiri sushi but I really enjoyed the flavor of the raw salmon here and shrimp piece was also solid. The Shrimp Tempura roll was fantastic, the sauces were delicious and the tempura itself was perfect. Despite being full I wished I could taste more. We also split a California roll which was good as well. It's a pretty standard roll but they did exceed expectations here by using shredded crab instead of crab stick for the roll. I'm not sure exactly where to begin this review. I was SO excited that a sushi place was opening up in the area...since others are quite a drive to get to. The service was friendly and attentive...but they also had their children running in and out of the restaurant. The restaurant menu has a bit of an identity crisis; mostly options are Japanese or Chinese but also intermixed are Thai and Vietnamese choices a well. Now to the food...if was just kind of eh, alright. Tempura was soggy, roll was ok, miso soup had some fishy taste to it, nigiri was fresh(thank goodness), and overall the food didn't seem worth the price. This place is new and I'm sure they have some kinks to work out now that they've opened their doors...and I'm looking forward to maybe trying it out again in a few months and hopefully having a better food experience and a more upbeat review to write. read more

Altho the rolls were yummy and well portioned the bill for the 3 rolls snd2 green teas came to$38.00.. A little high for this small cafe style sushi bar . This is actually my new favorite sushi restaurant in Tucson, and it happens to be in OV! Incredible sushi here. Hefty rolls, and they really pile on the fish. Their Vegas roll is one of the best I've ever had. The sashimi bowl is also an excellent choice for a filling lunch. The only thing I wish they'd change is their prices. Rolls are two to five dollars more expensive (each!) than at other restaurants around town. If their prices were a little more comparable to other sushi joints I would eat here more often because I LOVE IT! I feel so lucky we have such a gem of a sushi restaurant here in the OV! read more

John orders his sushi from Japan but he does a better job preparing it and presentation. I love the family that owns this restaurant. They are extremely generous with all their guests. They take a lot of pride in their restaurant. They have a large menu. They also serve Chinese food and other non-sushi dishes. They are reasonably priced considering the portion size you get. I finally tried this place bc it is the closest sushi place to my home and I wanted it delivered. The rice was overly sweet and way over worked. Sushi rice is just as important as the quality of the fish and this rice was all broken up and pasty. The salmon tasted fresh but they are very overpriced. 14.95 for a Philly. Spicy tuna was nothing special. Spicy scallop was missing the masago traditionally mixed in and tasted fishy and "off" and tossed the rest instead of risking getting sick. I had high hopes, but there are so many great sushi places in Tucson that this place is a hard pass in the future even if we have to drive further. read more

Our first visit. Great service, wonderful food. We had the Volcano and the Popcorn Lobster Roll. The reviews we checked out before eating here said the Lobster Roll was the thing to order, and it is true...this is one awesome dish. Could not give this place five stars due to the poor quality and condition of the glassware, cutlery and table items. Salt and Pepper shakers were greasy. Plastic water glass worn out, edges chipped, and a dirty wine glass. The web site talked about a "happy hour" but we were charged normal prices for beer and wine when we got our bill. Not sure what "happy hour" prices really mean. A nice family run business with a fantastic menu of Japanese and Chinese dishes including Sushi, Nigiri and Sashimi. You will never leave this place hungry! We plan to visit again soon and try some other items on the menu. read more

Unremarkable. I live here in Oro Valley; based on my dining experiences over the years, I don't have high expectations. In that respect Sushi Valley didn't disappoint. Our meal consisted of the "lobster roll", some deep-fried amorphous "nuggets of fatty goodness" (my wife's characterization), and, for me, sashimi and rice. We both thought the rice had a weird sweetness. Sushi rice is flavored with mirin, a viscous combination of rice wine and sugar; I learned to prepare it in Asian culinary school. It's not... sweet. The fried portion of my wife's roll was nice, but the roll itself had a spiciness that just overwhelmed her whole meal. Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-spice, I lived in Thailand. It's just that subtle flavors can get steamrolled with heat, and after enjoying the fried bits, the roll itself was overwhelming. Balance is everything in Japanese food. For me, the sashimi didn't suffer off-flavors, but it was unexpectedly soft. Chosen by the chef ("omakase"), well, but the texture just didn't do it for me. The meal came with miso soup, which I didn't expect, but did enjoy. There isn't much in the way of premium dining here, and, alas, Sushi Valley didn't change my impression of the choices. read more

The first time we came here a few years back we pretty much got the royal treatment from the owner and I was compelled to give good feedback on Yelp (which I did). The last few times we've been here though, things haven't been all that great. Yesterday was our final trip to this restaurant. During our visit, the only other customers there were a party of three (dining in) and a mother with her son ordering takeout. The server got our drink order, went to her register to take care of some things, then disappeared to the back. After a few minutes she came back out, stopped by our table empty-handed and asked, "You ordered two iced teas, right?" She eventually brought us drinks and took our order. No one seemed to be in any hurry to make our rolls because the prep station was vacant for several minutes. (There were a lot of associates in the back, but no chefs were out front.) This is a full wait staff restaurant where they take your order, bring your food, fill your drinks, and process your bill. I emptied my iced tea pretty quickly because I had a spicy roll, but my confidence in our server was low so I didn't wait long before I was up at her register asking for a refill. (I shouldn't have to do that.) I also went back up to get our bill because I really wasn't sure how long it was going to take had I not. At that point the server asked me if it was movie night, which led me to believe she thought we were in a rush. We weren't in any particular hurry, but we were getting uncomfortable being there any longer than we had to be. I'm a pretty patient diner and I weigh a lot of factors in determining what's acceptable timeliness in food delivery. That being said, I felt our service was lackluster relative to how busy they were. The whole experience was simply an entire 180 degree change from our very first visit back in late 2016; back then we were treated like valued customers, but this time around it felt like we were annoyances more than anything. We're going to look for a nicer local sushi experience elsewhere. read more
