Sushi village had a relatively strong start! Even as of April of this year, their sashimi all you can eat menu was excellent. Unfortunately they've discontinued this practice, and their current all you can eat menu is far more limited. Still a mainstay of the valley, but it's a shame to see a pullback in value and breadth of offerings. The tables are often kind of sticky, but that's not necessarily a deal-breaker for me. We had an incredibly disappointing and upsetting experience at Sushi Village. We arrived around 8:00 PM hoping to enjoy the All-You-Can-Eat (AYCE) menu.The issues began immediately: Slow Service: It took a full 25 minutes just to receive our very first order. Strict Time Limits: Upon serving us, they announced that all AYCE orders had to be placed by 8:45 PM. Refused Orders: To respect their timeline, three people in our party placed a second order at 8:35 PM. However, the front manager stepped in and blocked the waiter from submitting it. Her excuse was that the rest of our group had not finished their first plates yet. The worst part of the night was how the manager treated the minors in our group. She looked at two young girls and disrespectfully commented, "Two girls should not eat this much food, I am sure they can't finish their food."As a service provider, making unsolicited, judgmental comments about what minor girls are eating is completely unacceptable and crosses the line into harassment. If the kitchen was closing or they could no longer serve us due to the time, she should have said so professionally. We would have understood. Instead, she chose to be rude and condescending.We came to pay full price for a meal, not to beg for charity. I love the portions of hibachi and ramen. It's not too much where you think they're trying to really fill you up. It's a perfect amount where you feel like you won't waste the food. Absolutely terrible experience. My boyfriend has a sesame allergy, and despite there being a warning note at the bottom of the menu about allergies, the staff were insulting and hostile about it. He did not order or eat anything, yet we were treated like a problem the entire time. Instead of being understanding, they were judgmental, dismissive, and outright rude. The service was cold and unfriendly from start to finish. Sushi's terrible and each roll, appetizer, or nigiri I ordered took 15 plus minutes to come out. This is genuinely the SLOWEST service i've ever had at a restaurant ever. Each roll was 70% rice basically with no meat or filling. Some rolls were HUGE with literally 70% rice. Additionally, server came up to me twice asking if I had everything when I would still be waiting on my food. This is when we were approached by the waitress and instructed very rudely NOT to eat from the full plate and finish our first. This is for the reason of raising our bill in the end because the full plate had the premium sushi which they could charge more for than what was on our first plate. Never been in a restaurant that A) tells you what you can and can't eat and B) does not inform you how their billing works. To salvage our paycheck, I went to the restroom to puke my guts out to make room for the extra charge these predators wanted to make off me. Then he had the audacity to ask us if we wanted to place an order for anything else. When I stopped laughing, I told him to just bring the check. Then he tried to offer some mochi ice cream to, I assume, make up for his lack of attention. I told him to just get the check. When he got back, he had the AUDACITY to have added an 18% gratuity. I was floored. I went to the poor little hostess and told her to remove the tip as there was no way I was going to give anyone involved any tip. This was our first and last visit to Rice village. Red flag #1, they provided us with an appetizer of fried shrimp dumplings. I cut it in half and there was NO shrimp and filled completely with Rice. I should have thought to take a photo but was still hoping this was going to be a great spot to eat sushi. The second red flag was when I asked what was the difference between the tuna avocado roll on the little white menu and the pictured menu. There was absolutely no difference. However, what the waitress intentionally left out was that there was a tiny amount of tuna which was wrapped in a blanket of rice. The photos speak for themselves. Red flag #3, the waitress started to argue with me that you can't eat sushi a particular way. Since I began removing the rice blanket from the tuna and avocado. The sushi that was given to us was not the same as what was pictured on the menu. My husband asked for my meal to be removed from the bill. The waitress said that she "couldn't do it, it would be illegal." My husband asked to speak to a manager and she informed us that there was no manager tonight. When my husband told her "my wife is unhappy," she responded, "it's not about her happiness." Needless to say, we have had great food in Harrisonburg - just not here. Because we didn't eat and were hungry, I ended up eating yummy thai food at Thai cafe, which was excellent again! I disputed this on my credit card on a recorded line. After we explained what happened and what the waitress said, the representative from the credit card company, laughed at how absolutely ridiculous this waitress treated me and stated that it was crazy for them to charge us for little to no food with all their excuses not to remove the charges from the bill. The food itself is pretty decent. The crab rangoons are the reason I continue to return. They have a sweet taste to them that makes them perfect! I've only ever had crab rangoon that are this good at one other resturant that is in Chesterfield, VA. The teriyaki steak and shrimp is good. It is a hit or miss on whether the person actually cooks is correctly, but it is good most of the time. I dont like the hibachi here, they tend to either over or under cook the steak everytime. Now, my complaint is the service. The manager was really rude. I'm allergic to rice, but of course can still have shrimp, steak, and many appetizers. Mind you this is an unlimited sushi/hibachi place. So every other place I go to, I can just order no rice since I'm allergic and it isnt an issue. Here was told that I couldn't do that without being charged for it. So, I would be charged MORE to order LESS food. Their excuse was that the rice is meant as a filler, which is fine; however I'm ALLERGIC so I'm not sure why they cant accommodate this. After a lot of arguing, I was told I could order 1 without rice for no charge, possibly 2 if the person I was eating with didn't order no rice. The manager actually argued with me about my allergies. AMAZING VALUE! You get so much for your buck here and they're so high quality sushi! Most places like this will take 15-20 min between bringing rolls to the table, not here! They are extremely fast and the waiter was exceptional! We totaled everything at menu price that we ate and it would've come out to $225 had we not been at a all you can eat restaurant.
