The initial draw to Sushi You was the large "50% off sushi" banner hung outside the restaurant. Solidified the decision to stop there for lunch after pulling up Yelp and seeing 4+ star reviews. Have to admit walking in the door had high hopes for This restaurant but the overall experience was average at the VERY best. Let's start off with the positives: -Was greeted in a friendly manner upon entering -The staff was very attentive with taking our order/the overall service was good -Received our food in a timely manner -The prices were extremely fair compared to other sushi restaurants in the area (50% off their basic sushi everyday and 20% off specialty rolls). -The green tea was awesome Appetizers: We first ordered avocado salad which was fine but super simple (the typical iceberg salad lettuce with a few slices of avocado on top and ginger dressing on the side). We also got the white fish tempura as an appetizer which was again, fine but impeccably average. It tasted rather fishy but it was fried to a good crisp and texture. Sushi/Rolls: We then ordered a variety of rolls (5 regular rolls which were 50% off) and one of the specialty rolls on the back of the menu which was 20% off). The sushi was 100% the most disappointing portion of the experience, all stemming from the poor quality of rice. The rice was dry, flavorless and some of the most lackluster I've ever eaten. The fish didn't seem the freshest and again was more fishy smelling and tasting then you'd expect. However, the regular rolls were nicely presented and was a good amount of food. The speciality roll (Queen Roll) was extremely small and lacking the dimension of flavor and "pizazz" that you'd expect from a speciality roll. Also, the rolls that had tempura flakes were immensely dry and overpowered by the large quantity of the dry tempura flakes. All of the other ingredients inside the rolls such as the avocado, cucumber etc seemed to be stingy though. As an avid sushi consumer overall, have to say based on what we ordered this was some of the most lifeless sushi I've ever consumed. Because of my initial optimism from Yelp reviews, 50% off sushi/good value and the pleasant staff who did their best to accommodate, I really wanted to give this restaurant 3 stars. I honestly want to give this place 3 stars because of the staff and the great prices; however I can't ignore the huge elephant in the room, that is the quality of the product... 1.) Their Avocado Salad is kind of a joke... What you are getting for $4.50 is pretty silly. It's basically iceberg lettuce with half an avocado. The online price says $3.50, but we paid $4.50 --- its a very bland and simple salad with the only saving grace being the cliche ginger dressing. 2.) Their hot green tea is actually really good! That and YELP gave this place decent reviews, 4 out of 5 I believe... So here's the scoop... The sushi is very well prepared, pretty looking, and done in a good amount of time. BUT... And there's a HUGE BUT! The sushi tastes boring, super fishy, and not the freshest. The first issue is the rice, the rice tastes like an old rice, and there's zero love in the rice, like ZERO. While I know this place isn't a NOBU or a MASA SUSHI, most sushi masters put a lot of emphasis on the rice and of course the fish - but the rice is essential. This was a very dry, semi hard rice, with zero flavor. Add to that the fish that also seemed boring and watered down if that makes sense.... OVERALL, I paid $50 for two, for a very bland, and depressing sushi experience. The place is cute, the staff super friendly, and they try, they really do! But as a sushi lover from all over the U.S. this is not the greatest; I've had Chinese takeout spots that offer sushi, that has had better rolls. I don't want to see these guys fail, I actually want them to improve, it's a nice hole in the wall with potential, but if you'd try sushi here for the first time, you'd never wanna try it again... The restaurant is only 3.6 miles from my house and takes less than 10 min to drive there. Called the restaurant at 5:06 to check on delivery status and he was surprised to hear it wasn't delivered and he left me on the phone while he texted the delivery guy. Staff are very rude. We ordered for pick up. Staff dismissed us when they can't find our order, instead of helping us figure out the situation. Had to show them the receipt to prove we didn't make a mistake. After looking at the receipt, the staff just walked away without saying a word. We had the knock on the glass door to get the staff attention again. She finally said it is being prepared. Everything we asked her was all a part of her job. Ordered from delivery.com and it turned out great! I was a little weary walking into the store because it looks rather sketchy, with a barely-lit sign saying open and a giant 50% off sushi sign. When you walk in though, the waiter was very friendly and got to our order right away! Can't say anything about service since we didn't dine in. As for the food - we got one sashimi regular, a Xanadu roll, millennium roll and a handful of other not special rolls. The Xanadu was delicious, but the millennium was forgettable. There's a myth that exists in this country that persists. No matter how many times it's disproved, people continue to believe it, and sadly, I'm one of those people. It's the myth that says high quality sushi can be inexpensive. I know in my logical brain that it's not possible. The cost of the ingredients alone make it impossible. Despite knowing this, I like sushi, and I like to eat more than my wallet will allow, so when I see restaurants with signs advertising "all-you-can-eat" or "50% Off", my brain fogs over and I say to myself "maybe this restaurant will be different". So far, it's never happened. That's not to say that the food in these restaurants is bad (at least not always), and if you go in with reasonable expectations, you generally won't be disappointed. This is where we come to Sushi You. From the time the restaurant opened, the storefront featured a giant banner advertising "50% OFF EVERYDAY". That discount included nigiri sushi, sashimi and large selection of maki and hand rolls. Their "Special Fancy Rolls" were 20% off. The food was good enough that I've eaten here more than once, but yesterday I returned to discover their 50% off deal no longer applied to any sushi rolls, and all the prices had increased; not by a lot, but enough to notice. It was at this point the fog completely lifted from my brain and I realized Sushi You was never a really a good deal, it only seemed that way. I happened to have an old menu, and I noticed that all the pre-discount prices were considerably higher than you'd pay for the same item in a regular sushi restaurant. For example, their Spicy Tuna Roll was $7.90, which after the 50% discount became $3.95. In all fairness, $3.95 is a good price for a Spicy Tuna Roll, but $7.90 is ridiculous. Now, in addition to the diminished 50% deal, the prices have all increased. So, unless you live around the corner, there's really no reason to go to Sushi You any longer (if there ever was). The prices are now, just average, and the sushi quality is the same as it was when you thought you were getting a bargain; which is also just average. read more

Great sushi for the price. I did take out and got some basic maki rolls. The place itself is quiet but quaint. Friendly service and easy to talk to. Onto the food. Take out portions were small but for the price (50% off is awesome) I could not complain. Everything tasted fresh and the spicy tempura flakes are amazing in the spicy rolls. It's a great place for some sushi especially if you don't have too much dough to throw around. I always come here with friends and I try something new each time. It's even better if your friends are cool with trading pieces of sushi haha! I enjoy the rice tea as well. The staff is always so nice. I just ate here last night for dinner, and here are some tidbits you all should know before coming out here: 1. Not everything is 50% like the huge sign outside says it is. Only your basic sushi maki rolls and hand rolls are. If you are a fan of the more expensive specialty rolls, those are 20% off. Everything else on the menu is full price. 2. I have to disagree with Ann B.; this restaurant is NOT Japanese owned. Perhaps I experienced a different staff that night but I had a hard time explaining that I wanted salmon nigiri and that I wanted my maki rolls to be rolled with the seaweed on the outside. I actually had to tell them "Yes, nigiri, I want the fish on the ball of rice". 3. The 50% rolls are a little on the small side. With that said, the sushi is pretty good here and the menu is pretty extensive. The rolls being on the small side is actually pretty forgivable too, because with an average of $3.00~ a roll, you can afford to pick up another one if you're hungry! I have gone to this restaurant so many times and everytime I go, I always have a positive experience. There has yet to be a place that can beat Sushi You. Food: Take advantage of their 50% off select sushi rolls. For vegetarians, try the avocado and cucumber, egg and the japanese squash. Inari is also quite yummy - tofu skins stuffed with rice! Their salads and soups are pretty good as well! If you love fish, try their special rolls - they have pictures accompanying the names on the menu. My friends love Snow Mountain and Spicy Tuna. For dessert, definitely try the Green Tea Fire Icecream!!! They bring out a decent sized plate with scoops of icecream on fire with whipped cream. Very yummy and good to share between 2 people. Venue: Small but cosy area with small tables. They have a "bar" area in front of the kitchen. There is a small parking lot on the side but you can park on the street if it's full. They have soft background music playing to create a soothing atmosphere. Take Out: They delivered to my college so I was never without sushi! Very fast service! Ugh. Don't do it to yourself. This place is terrible. The fish is old. The tempura tastes like it was fried last week. The cucumber is hard and dry. Amazing food, great service with friendly staff, and the sushi is all very fresh. Plus you can't beat their prices! Their regular rolls are 50% off and their specialty rolls are usually some percentage off. Definitely recommend the shrimp tempura roll - still hot when they bring it out! Even on weeknights it gets pretty crowded. It's in a mini-strip mall and there's usually parking in the small lot next to it, but street parking is also fine.
