They have a policy that everyone has to order teppan and the waitress was pushing the mom of three children (one was prob 2 or 3, and another maybe 6 and the other maybe 7) to all order a $20 lunch...the mom repeated, I will share my food. Finally the waitress gave in, but the family did order 2 lunches, one kids meal (same exact serving size as the adults) and an extra fried rice. I haven't been to Ooka in years and let me tell you, it's still just as good! Great food, great sushi, great hibachi, and great customer service. Honestly this place is a hidden gem. I got the spicy garlic edamame and it was sooo good, that sauce is everything and I should've ordered one to go. The lychee tini never disappoints, it's strong and so tasty. For sushi I tried the AK47 roll and the Pink Dream roll... omg the Pink Dream roll is not only cute but also delicious. The AK47 was just as good. I also had the pineapple fried rice, which actually comes served in a pineapple and it was amazing. Even though I sat at the bar, I was still able to order hibachi. Having a craving for hibachi, Ooka seemed to be one of the promising places to try in the area. We went for a weekday lunch. Upon entering it looked so dark and gloomy. Chairs appeared old and uncomfortable. Wasn't a good first impression at all. I was happy to see the menu had lots of good combinations. I got the filet Mignon and lobster tail combo. The meal started with a very basic watery soup. Salad was actually good. Our chef joined few minutes later. He was totally in automated mode, going through is routine. No real expression or interaction with the guests, except where the routine required him to throw water or vegetables at the guests. I liked the rice and noodles. Lobster tail was decent. Everyone else had the chicken. All dinners were great. Service was great also except for 1 thing.... The only reason I'm not giving a 5 star is .. they rushed all the food to get you out. We weren't even offered dessert. They just handed us our check. They normally give you the soup, then a salad a few minutes after. They brought the soup and while we were still eating the soup, was dropping the salads at the table. I get that it was a Saturday night and they were very busy and still had people waiting to sit, but they could have been more diplomatic about rushing people to eat. I took a friend here for their birthday. When I arrived I parked in their private lot. I walked in and there was a bit of a wait for hibachi. I was very disappointed. I ordered over the phone for a pick up. I made sure that I ordered within a specific time because previously I called at 2:30 and was told the kitchen was closed because the workers had lunch at 3. The crazy thing is that the lunch hours are from 11 to 3!! Anyway, I had to wait when I got there. I only live about 5 or so minutes away but when I got home, some of my food was cold. I ordered shrimp and vegetable tempura and the shrimp and scallop lunch hibachi meal which came with soup, salad, vegetables, rice and noodles. Instead of noodles, I asked for extra rice which it looked like I had a reg portion size. As you can see in the picture, there were only 3 of each of the shrimp and scallops, which were tiny. I called to advise that my hibachi plate was not hot, not even warm. The girl tells me that that was impossible. Lol I told her it was. She kept going back and forth with me. My coworkers and I came here for the Hibachi style dinner for a birthday celebration. We were a party of 7. The place was packed but we were seated within 15 mins. We thought we would have the entire table to ourselves, but a party of 2 was randomly seated with us without our knowledge.. It would have been nice if we had gotten a heads up about it, but it's fine. When our waitress came to take our orders, we had asked for her suggestion on vegetarian options since a few of my colleagues were vegetarian. Ooka claims to have "many vegetarian options" yet the waitress had only pointed to the one single vegetarian item on the hibachi menu. Then, when we asked if the chef could cook the vegetarian orders first to avoid mixing with the meat orders, the waitress (who at this point seemed to be overwhelmed and annoyed by this request) straight up said no and suggested to just order their food through the kitchen instead. Personally, I was upset by this. How is this request any different from those who have a shellfish allergy? It's such a basic standard for any restaurant to accommodate people's dietary restrictions and this hibachi couldn't do that. The whole point of even doing the hibachi is for everyone to enjoy the whole experience of having your food prepared in front of you. Other than that, the rest of the night was fine. Came here about a month ago, and unfortunately I felt the service and food has gone down hill. First off, the sushi took forever to get. The place wasn't empty, but wasn't full. I am sure they only had 1 person making it, but that effected everything else since I recided the rolls as the chef was working the grill. Speaking of the sushi, the rice was hard. It was kinda cold too. I guess it was undercooked or kept cold. Either way, it effected both of my rolls. I hate when the rice is like this. The grill chef was boring. Not entertaining at all. Barely did much and barely spoke. I noticed the other chefs were pretty lame too and the place was fairly quiet. I think my group was the loudest and thats only because were trash. However, usually at hibachi grill the tables are loud and laughing, it seems the chef here are just dull. Onto the food...I grabbed the veggie hibachi dinner special. Barely any flavor. I ended up asking for more soy and other sauces to pour on. The chef bareky used any. I also noticed no garlic. Usually they drown it in garlic, nothing. Also, I think he could have left my veggies and noodles and rice on longer. Lastly, we all noticed there was little to no egg in our rice. Kinda sucked. Hopefully, these issues will change because the food and performance gas been effected. I'm guessing every household has one... that pile of menus of every shape, size and cuisine that's accumulated over the years. Once in a blue you rifle through them and see the coupons expired three years ago but you don't have the heart to actually toss out that menu. (Our pile is located right next to the 'junk drawer' in our kitchen which is another fascinating creation.) Well the Mrs. went menu diving and came up with Ooka. The family jumped on Route 3 and before we knew it... we were knee-deep in absolutely delicious sushi and one of my kids got this amazing steak combo platter that I kept stealing stuff off of when he wasn't paying attention. It was during our first visit when we saw that Ooka do something a bit over the top to celebrate someone's birthday and made a mental note we'd have to come to participate ourselves. A few more regular visits and I can report with confidence that all of their specialty sushi rolls are fantastic (their Volcano Roll is our family's #1 favorite, no doubt). Then it was my kids' birthday so we figured we'd finally give their hibachi a try for once. The station is a bit snug (10 people in total, two different parties) but our chef-showman was top-notch and never missed a step with the juggling and bad jokes and flipping diced veggies into our mouths or spraying sake into our mouths from those classic mustard-and-ketchup plastic containers. The show/food was over and the creepy-cool kabuki mask/helmets came out. My now-11-year-olds did not want to participate but they finally caved in. A lady at our station was also celebrating and put her head-gear on as well. Then the supercharged wacky (and long) version of "Happy Birthday!" started over the PA system and everyone went full-tilt with clapping and singing-yelling and of course my kids were mortified and would've ran for the exit if they weren't blinded by the oversize Mardi Gras costumes they were stuck wearing. Great good. Really large portions. Cool staff (even if one waitress in particular always frightens me a bit cause she seems like that strict teacher from grammar school that forgot how to smile). Both the sit-down proper restaurant and hibachi station are definitely recommended. I am giving them five stars because the place did deliver on everything. It's a simple hibachi place with a standard menu. However, there are a few things. One I went in July- my mistake not theirs it was hot sitting next to the grills. Secondly, the bathroom is in need of repair. Water is something that could cause someone to slip and fall. Lastly, they did cram all of us in at the tables because they did not have a lot of chefs. I was a party of three and they sat me with a party of 6-8 people. For a half table, we were elbow to elbow. I did go in a Thursday, and perhaps on a Friday or Saturday they have more chefs. The food is exactly what you would expect from a hibachi restaurant. Soup, salad, Choice of protein, veggies, noodles, and fried rice. Every entire gets 2 shrimp added as an additional appetizer which was different and very nice. It was someone's birthday in our party. They play music, Bring out a free scoop of ice cream with a candle, and a huge mask for you to put on for pics while the music plays happy birthday. It was very cute. They do not have dessert here. I would do loved just one dessert choice. They did give the birthday person a free scoop of ice cream but I didn't see ice cream in the menu. So honestly hibachi isn't my "thing". It seems so outdated. However after my experience at Ooka Sushi I may have to change that and say hibachi is at least still "a thing". We felt welcomed from the moment we arrived. We made a reservation for my daughter's birthday (at her request) and ended up calling back for a later time slot. They were accommodating; however I must note it was a Monday night. YMMV depending on which day of the week you plan to dine here. There was a light crowd but our chef performed as if he were in front of a full house! He was so entertaining! I tried Ooka for the first time last night and would definitely come again! It's an unassuming place, not particularly great ambiance but the food is so good. Food: Most hibachi places make you choose between noodles or rice but Ooka gives you both! Huge portions of both too, plus you get a few pieces of shrimp, veggies, and whatever protein you choose. I opted for the lobster and filet mignon and both were delicious! Next time I look forward to trying their sushi too, they have a large list of specialty rolls. COVID precautions: They're still requiring masks and have a temperate check machine in the front of the restaurant. Drinks: I ordered the Mai Tai; one while sitting at the bar and another during our meal. The drink from the bar was perfect but the second was so strong, they barely put any of the mixer in it.
