It was pretty packed at that time, but there were still some tables left. The dining room is pretty spacious and they were able to accommodate our stroller. To start, they bring you some miso soup, which was very comforting on a cold day. They also gave us our own little pot of green tea, which was cute. We ordered a bunch of things to share, and they asked if it was okay if they just brought everything out on a sushi boat, which was fine by us. We had the Sashimi Regular (30 pieces of salmon, tuna, white tuna, and yellowtail), Fire Roll (spicy yellowtail, jalapeno, avocado, cucumber roll with spicy caviar, and extra spicy sauce on top), Salmon Combo (4 pcs of salmon sushi and Alaska roll), and a white tuna roll. The Sashimi Regular was totally worth it. 30 pieces of fish for $45, and it comes with a bowl of rice. It tasted fresh. I enjoyed the Fire Roll too but I hate special rolls smothered in sauces, so I asked for the sauce on the side, and this was the move. That way I could dip as much/as little as I wanted. The sauce was pretty good. It wasn't just spicy mayo but I think it also had sweet chili sauce and jalapenos it, so it had more of a kick. The regular rolls were also good - it was a good fish to rice ratio. I wish I tried this place sooner, but I'm glad I finally did. Consumers, be aware... these sushi rolls are HUGE!!! More like monster sushi, super-sized sushi, jumbo sushi... whatever you wanna call it. I'm not complaining though! They can get messy to eat and they may or may not fit in your mouth in one bite... but they are very filling. We came in on a Saturday around 6pm and were seated right away. Nizi reminds me of a sports bar infused with a casual sushi restaurant. Service was phenomenal! All servers were attentive, friendly, and prompt. We were given complimentary miso soup, which was a nice touch. It took us awhile to settle on an order because their menu offers SO many options! They have 40 different special rolls, 30+ regular rolls, sashimi, Korean dishes, teriyaki boxes, and more. They also have a full bar with cocktails, wines, soju, and beer. We decided on the Nizi Love Platter- 5 Special Rolls for $80.00 and 2 lychee martinis (~$12 each). I was STARVING so I couldn't wait to stuff my face. Roll #1 Lobster Roll - Generous amount of spicy lobster, only comes in 5 pieces. Roll #2 Samurai Roll - My second favorite roll of the 5. It has a sweet after taste from the eel sauce. Roll #3 Samba Roll - Not a big fan. The tuna tempura was oxidized and was a brown/gray color. The spicy salmon wasn't spicy at all... and the mango overpowered everything else. Roll #4 Crazy Salmon Roll - My personal favorite of the 5! It had huge chunks of torched salmon, creating a smoky, crispy flavor. Roll #5 Nizi Special Roll - Not too crazy about this one. The shrimp tempura wasn't crispy enough and the mango in the roll overpowered the yellowtail, salmon, and tuna. I felt like I was just eating mango sushi. Overall... a hit or miss with the special rolls. Although the meal was filling, it wasn't the freshest and most flavorful fish I've had. Some of the rolls lacked overall flavor harmony, with certain sauces and ingredients overpowering the others. 3 of the rolls were supposed to be spicy, but it was too mild for me. Their presentation is great, but they need to work on the quality and flavor. The lychee martinis were refreshing, I just wish it was a bit sweeter. Late lunch and craved Japanese food. Decided to try Nizi Sushi and they did not disappoint. Thankfully, a late lunch hour worked better since it wasn't crowded. Heard dinner time is packed so would love to check that out. They don't take reservations apparently, so best to come early for dinner. The space is also pretty large with rooms that can accommodate a party of 20. Food is delicious, but I am looking forward to heading back to try other items on their menu. Worth checking out, guys. It's been over 7 years so I figured I will update my review. Despite Nizi Sushi having to move to a different location (they deserve the bigger place), no quality has been compromised! Nizi Sushi is still as delicious, if not more, than ever. Every piece of fish is so fresh and every entree looks like it's been made with care and quality. They don't skimp on the portions and everything is always cooked to perfection. They still have the BEST Shrimp Tempura I've had anywhere - the outer coating is so crispy and light and never feels greasy. The inside shrimp is big and filling and you def. get your money's worth. No tiny thin shrimp here! All their sushi rolls and bento boxes are SO good. I have my favorites: Chicken Teriyaki, Dragon rolls, shrimp tempura, and the 4 tartar special on the appetizer that I forgot the name of. But no matter what you choose, you will love your meal. All the workers here are SO friendly and accommodating. They will remember you (esp if you've been coming here for almost a decade). I love this place. Love love love. We've been going to Nizi Sushi for years, and it's always been our go to place for amazingly fresh and delicious sushi. Not only is the food is always superb, but the service is always friendly and spot on. They used to be located in a much smaller venue in Rutherford, but moved to a much bigger location in East Rutherford. The menu is the same, the staff is the same, but just a much bigger location. I sometimes miss the smaller more intimate location, but luckily the food hasn't suffered from the change. as always, I'm more than happy to recommend this place to any sushi lover and New Jersey foodie Yum! read more

For drinks we had the Nizi white Sangria, Nizi rum punch and hot sake, all of which were great choices! This is a pretty standard sushi place. We ordered a sashimi platter and several of the fish on the plate including the salmon tasted good and were decently fresh, but others like the tuna were kind of strange in appearance and taste. It was also kind of strange that the bigger the platter, the more expensive per piece. I did really appreciate that they gave us seaweed (charged only $1 extra I think and it wasn't on the menu) to have with our sashimi and sushi rice. We also got a dessert each including chocolate "soufflé" (it was just a lava cake), the hazelnut ice cream one, and cheesecake. Nizi Sushi is that place that you don't expect to be good but quite solid when it comes to the selection of sushi and rolls as well as the quality. We ordered an assortment of options and each was delectable. A couple highlights as well as some tips. First off, given the popularity of the place, I would highly recommend arriving early or going at an off peak time. Second, if you want to modify one of the sets (for example not wanting a California roll as part of a combo), it won't work as they will charge you just the same. As for special rolls, the Pink Lady roll was solid and anything with crabmeat was great. The Dragon roll was as expected. As for great flavors, I think the udon and the sashimi are solid options as well. Parking (plentiful!) is across the street! read more

Our kids treated us to a takeout dinner for our anniversary. They live in Kearny, but we live in Manhattan. They sent us the link to Nizi Sushi and told us to choose whatever we wanted! Well, this was one fantastic, excellent, anniversary dinner! We chose the Sushi Special, and we were blown away by the quality and quantity of the meal. Sushi Special comes with 2 miso soups, in styrofoam cups that I poured into our own bowls and reheated. It was as good as any we've had. We ordered a seaweed salad in addition and the one order was sufficient for both of us, and tasty. The sushi platter was huge - it's 15 (?) pieces of nigiri sushi, a fresh-tasting assortment of salmon, shrimp, several other delicious pieces; at some restaurants the ball of rice is larger than the piece of fish but that is not the case here - each piece is a generous one. The Special includes a California roll, a choice of a spicy roll (our choice was yellowtail) and a special roll (we chose rainbow). The platter included wasabi, soy sauce, and chopsticks rolled in paper napkins. Obviously the people who run the restaurant put thought into how they package their food to go. The kids drove into the City to deliver our wonderful anniversary meal; they get 5 stars too! Lol We had more than enough to eat and it was all fresh and excellent quality and of course, delicious! We tried this place on 6/13 to celebrate my birthday because I love sushi and we just moved into town and are looking for a new sushi spot. I am always looking for the freshest fish, tastiest combos and rolls, and just a good sushi experience. As such, I have a great taste for sushi and have a lot of experience with it! We picked Nizi because it has great reviews, but I cannot understand why! The fish was average at best, not the freshest nor most flavorful I've had by a long shot. The rolls are extremely poorly made, and way too large for a sushi special roll, which should be packed, but small enough to consume in a single bite per piece that encompasses all the flavors and ingredients. The flavors themselves also didn't mesh well at all, and the texture of the fish was a bit weird. I usually devour multiple rolls, but I couldn't even finish a single one here and just ate some different food at home. Aside from the disappointing food (I've never disliked sushi this much!), the service was not great. Our server was being extremely pushy, ignoring our requests for more time to look at the menu. They returned after 30 seconds each time, about 4 or 5 times! So quick that we didn't even have time to look at the menu again after they left and just prolonged the time it took for us to choose even more. I think they were trying to rush to get our order because there was another server who approached us to ask for our order too, and they might have been both vying for the tip. That's my speculation, but regardless it made us feel awkward, rushed, and frustrated! The inside of the location itself is nothing to write home about either. Nothing fancy, just your average casual sushi restaurant so there's nothing else for me to say really about its appearance. The salad was fine as well, but the ginger dressing was missing a something. I think it was ginger, but all you can really taste is orange, which is not that great for me since I don't like fruit with my savories. I asked for the price of 2 different wines ( one of the glass snd other for the bottle). Good deal if you are ordering the rolls that are $15+. We had the Godzilla, monster, rose garden, crazy salmon and Rutherford rolls. I really loved the monster & rose garden. Came here on a Saturday night when I was in the North Jersey area. I chose this place, because I had seen high ratings and a pretty extensive menu with many options. Upon entering, there were a few people waiting in front of my friend and I. We put our name on the waiting list to be seated as soon as possible. An employee asked if we were ok with a high table, and we said yes. While the high table was fine, we were sat in a very tight corner close to a lot of excess chair and table storage. It felt a bit closed in and took away from the ambiance. After being given our menus, my friend and I decided on our food in about 7 minutes or so. Our server wasn't particularly pleasant, but he got the job done. After giving our orders, we were served some complimentary Miso Soup. The first one I was given had a hair in it, so our server has that switched out ASAP. The new soup was pretty tasty compared to other miso soups I've had before. After waiting about 15-20 minutes for our rolls, our sever came out with them. He asked if I was brought the Avocado Salad I had ordered; when I replied no, he took both of our rolls away and went to go get it. We were kind of taken back by this, since it was just a small salad. I didn't see why it couldn't have just been brought out with our rolls that were already prepared. Our server then disappeared for quite a few minutes, and we couldn't wave him down to get our rolls. Eventually, I waved down another server who brought our rolls over since they were sitting already prepared in the counter. Despite the very strange service, our rolls were very tasty. I ordered a Mike"s Roll, featuring soy paper, chicken tempura, and mozzarella tempura. I also ordered a Kamikaze Roll featuring shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, and cucumber. Both rolls were very flavorful, and the ingredients tasted very fresh. The Avocado Salad was OK; the dressing is what makes the dish. This particular dressing wasn't particularly flavorful. We were checked on a few times by various servers as we ate, which I appreciated. Overall, I have mixed feelings on this place. The service wasn't particularly professional from the minute we entered to be seated until the time we were eating. I was a major fan of the variety and food quality.
