I love this place. My husband and I first found this place which was a tiny hole in the wall years ago. We lived around the area and loved their samurai bites. We used to get them way too often. The owner was very friendly as well. It's been about 7-8 years since then and I am so happy to see they still exist and are doing well - they have two locations now!! Still far away from where we moved so that sucks, but we keep on coming back. This was the place I wanted to go to right after I gave birth! Finally felt better to drive 1.5 hrs and got to eat here last weekend!! Ambiance is great...date night like. Service is wonderful as always. And of course - the food is incomparable especially the Samurai Bites. We love it. Got two sets. We wanted more but we figured we should eat other items from the menu as well. Had a great dinner here. Love the ambience, parking is good, and the service is spot-on. I started with Carpaccio (thinly-sliced salmon) and really loved every bite. The sauce was excellent. Negimaki was very good as well. I had mixed sashimi and a Dancing Eel roll for the entree, but very good, really fresh. One of my favorite things was the Piña Colada. In my experience, Japanese (and Chinese) restaurants don't make very good mixed drinks. But the mixed drink menu here looked so awesome (and nicely designed) that I couldn't resist, and I'm glad for that. A really good drink with a great presentation (slice of pineapple and 3 cherries on a bamboo skewer), shaken very well. I got two of them. The bartender came out to serve us the drinks, too. A woman asked us how everything was when we were done. We have the thumbs-up, and she seemed genuinely happy. Maybe an owner. I like it when people care about the quality of what their business turns out, owner or not. I would absolutely return if I'm back in the area. read more

Everything was so good. The manager, Andres, was amazing and made the whole experience even better. All the fish was super fresh, the service was great, and they actually have a full bar -- which is rare for sushi spots around here. The cocktails were delicious. Ordered for pickup via UberEats. They had a few BOGO deals in the app so we got those, and a Deluxe Sushi Plate. The Deluxe Sushi Plate was really good. I upgraded to a negitoro roll, which was the move. I didn't care for the shrimp piece but the boiled shrimp is always expected as a filler sushi. Everything else was great though. For the BOGO deals, these were the samurai roll, red bull roll, salmon avocado roll, and samurai bites (crispy tuna rice). The rolls were just okay because they were smothered in sauces. Samurai bites were still good. I like that they have both real (higher quality) sushi, and fushi (fake sushi, i.e. the rolls with all sorts of filling covered with sauces). Next time, I'll probably just stick to the sushi deluxe and the samurai bites. read more

We felt like finding some decent Japanese in the area for lunch. Found Samurai Sushi from recommendations. Middle of the day, plenty of street parking. Lady was nice and let us pick the table since there wasn't a lot of customers. There were plenty of pickups ready to go so that's a good sign. Ordered a ramen and bento box lunch. My husband and I come to Samuri Sushi annually and I have to say it's some of my favorite sushi in the area. The space is small and quaint and they have a sushi bar and then a regular bar you can sit at as well. They now serve alcohol (they used to be BYOB), which is great because you can have same with your sushi now! The tuna crispy rice is exceptional and perfectly done. Their boa buns and the avocado bomb are also full of flavor and fresh. The sushi as well cannot be beat. It so fresh and well prepared. They have a bunch of rolls on the menu and you cannot go wrong with any. The only hiccup I think this place has is their timing on serving food. We have ordered appetizers and had to wait over 30 minutes to receive when the restaurant was empty. They have also served all of my sushi dinner to me and not my husbands sushi which came at least 20 minutes later. If they fixed this timing issue I think they would be a perfect little sushi spot. Regardless of this, the sushi really is incredible and worth the price. It has been a pleasure to see this place grow over the years. read more

One of my favorite sushi restaurants in the area. A wonderfully decorated venue nestled on the corner of Paterson Ave. The red hanging lanterns create the vibe, in my opinion. Service is decent, we've had some really attentive wait staff and some really green ones as well, but never a horrible experience, just needs some fine-tuning. Food is excellent, the salmon lovers roll is hands down one of the favorites, if not THE favorite! Other rolls worth mentioning are the samurai roll and spider roll. If you get there very early at like five, you may get a spot. There is metered parking on the street or you may get a spot just around the corner by the houses. On 2/4/2020, I first came to Samurai Sushi for a Yelp Event. Anyway, the event was amazing! Right after that time, COVID struck. I had several deliveries via Ubereats. Delivery is easier than take out due to the distance of the restaurant. Here's a list of some of previous food deliveries: - Red Bull Roll - Treasure island appetizer - Pork Gyoza - Lava Drops - Tropical Roll - Bluefin Tuna. Up until last week, everything has been fine. Last week, I had an Ubereats delivery. I did experience an intestinal problem. I'm convinced it was related to either the bluefin tuna or the Red Bull Roll. I would suggest that management look into their sushi quality and any other health related conditions.... Hope this is a one time problem at Samurai Sushi. Otherwise, I would've given the restaurant 4 Stars. Thank heaven, I've have recovered. read more

One of my favorite sushi restaurants in NJ. I have only been here twice but both times had me sold. The first time attending was during a yelp elite event which was absolutely epic (separate review on the elite event page). After that I knew I needed to make a return visit. The samurai bites are unforgettable. Crispy blocks of fried rice topped with spicy tuna and pepper garnish. These are my favorite item so far here. The lava drops are a close second - crispy balls of crab drizzled with sauces (for takeout the sauces were on the side to avoid sogginess). For sushi rolls we went for the lobster roll and lava rolls, which were both excellent. The ingredients are fresh and bursting with flavor. The pretty colors and tiny details just make it so much fun to eat. It may be pricier here but the quality of the ingredients and creativity make it worth it, I don't worry about the bill. Out of the several sushi spots in Rutherford/east Rutherford area , this one is by far my favorite. Small restaurant big energy kind of place I absolutely love their kani salad (pictured) and what's unique about samurai is that they use real crab instead of intimation crab like most sushi places. The quality of the fish and ingredients of their food will give Samurai five stars alone. My favorite part is the tea selection. For 5 dollars you get a whole kettle of tea to enjoy with your meal. I find it relaxing and fun to share with the table. The bartenders/chef/waiters/waitresses are all very nice people who love to talk about the menu. This is forever my go to sushi place. Its low key located really close to my house. The restaurant is really nice, with fast service and very friendly waiters. The food is amazing. Their spicy kani salad is a MUST. All of their rolls are really good, we always order the dragon roll and then switch it up for the other rolls. Their portions are very generous and their prices are good for what you get. It could be a romantic spot or even a family dining place. I come here almost every week and will continue to so.
