I've only been once but LOVED it, awesome high end sushi and well worth the price

As a recently displaced resident of Los Angeles, where sushi restaurants are plentiful, this is by far one of the best Sushi places I have been to. Just perfect!! We went there on a Monday night. Were skeptical because we had the whole place to ourselves initially. It's only been open for a few weeks. The fish is fresh and flavorful. I've been here a couple of times and every time I've had someone super knowledgeable and friendly wait our table. The food comes quickly and has a nice presentation. Our family is fairly new to Sushi and we have been slowly trying some of the sushi restaurant in the area. This place has an all you can eat dinner of nigiri, special chef rolls and regular rolls as well as soup, salad and appetizers. All of the food was really fresh and tasted delicious. We tasted several different rolls. We also has eel and octopus which we have never tasted before. It was sooo good. We will definitely visit again. read more

I really loved this place when it first opened! Generous amounts of fish in the sushi, pretty authentic flavors and dishes, and good service because no one was ever in there. My most recent couple of visits were kind of a let down though. Service was poor even though the restaurant was not at all crowded. Food seems to have gone downhill and it is more Americanized and catered to non-Asians, like Kuroshio. It's not as good as it once was, but it still isn't bad. I'd recommend this place over Fuji Hana if you want decent sushi. read more

The sushi was great and the fried rice was very good too. I look forward to trying all the extravagantly named rolls. Particularly the "Sexy Lady." The atmosphere in the restaurant is a little different than most asian cuisine places but don't let that throw you off. If they dimmed the lights and threw a few dragons up on the wall it wouldn't hurt. Great service and great food. read more

We had a great experience at Sushi Yu tonight. Amy was really great at listening to what the four of us liked in terms of our tastes and she made great recommendations. Amy was so accommodating that she enabled one of us to create our own roll, "The Wendy Roll" The roll was perfect for those who love vegetables and are less adventurous with fish. The ingredients were wrapped in soy paper, which was awesome. Inside, cucumber, avocado, lettuce, asparagus and shrimp tempura. The amount of rice is in the roll was light which was perfect. We have tried several sushi places in the area, and Sushi Yu is hands down the best sushi we have had! The service was great with our waiters recommendations. The gentleman was super friendly and was always there. The presentation and quality of the food was phenomenal! My wife had a customized shrimp roll and "Sexy on the Beach" chefs special, which both were outstanding. I ordered several pieces of nigiri, spicy tune roll, and highly recommend the "Ninja Roll". We both were really impressed with the food, atmosphere and service. Sushi Yu has new customers in us and we will definitely visit this spot quite frequently! read more

If negative stars were an option I would exercise it. Awful customer service. They would not honor the groupon we purchased 'Sushi for 2' after the waiter was well aware during our entire visit of us having a groupon & our intention on using it as we changed our order to stay under the allotted amount of $30. When we insisted on having the groupon enforced as the language & fine print did not prohibit it, the waiter called the police. At no time was anyone belligerent, loud or disorderly. The waiter refused to scan the groupon and complained to the police that we would not pay even though we did not leave. We had already paid for the groupon that they had posted but they would not scan it as payment. The waiter said there was no manager for us to speak to and insisted the police handle the situation. Worst business ethic ever. Negative 10 stars. read more

People always note that it's really quiet in here. I'd say that's the only unchanged quality since their initial opening. So, I actually started coming here when they first opened in 2015 but the degradation of experience has prompted me to leave this review. Sushi Yu initially had great grand opening specials/discounts and the staff was so friendly and took time to get to know your tastes and recommend items to you. When the specials went away, it was still worth coming back. Why? Because the sushi was actually really good! I was so glad that decent sushi had finally come to Kennesaw given that I am more into nigiri. I always ordered sushi regular which consists of an assortment of nigiri, a california roll, soup, and salad (although I always subbed out my california roll for another roll for a minimal fee). The nigiri was always sliced thick and the rolls had a great rice to fish ratio, for me that means less rice and more fish. Sizes of portions were standard. For months I ordered this and it was always consistently great. This Sushi Yu was was a solid 4 star experience. But suddenly something changed. About a month ago, I went back and ordered my usual. The sushi is now definitely on the smaller size. My sushi regular had meager portions of nigiri that barely covered the rice and my roll was loosely made and very very tiny, not even close to a standard size. I returned a week later only to experience the same disappointing sushi. Needless to say, the friendly wait staff had been weeded out as well as their standards....seemingly replaced with a lunch buffet option. Buffet sushi isn't my thing but just fyi for those who enjoy it-- they have it. All in all, its not terrible. I've just known it to be significantly better. Even with small portions, I've never had poor quality fish so I suppose it is A-ok but if I could, this would be a 2.5 star rating.. I would now recommend this place for popular fusion saucy rolls. read more

Ok so the first time I went here the service was not good, our sushi was not what we ordered so we where not pleased at all. But a few weeks went by and we decided you know the food was good so maybe we should try again. So we went back and we had a different waiter and it all went flawlessly! I recommend everyone to avoid this place, based on the poor customer service understanding by the manager there. He refused to honor a Groupon, saying that the conditions printed on the Groupon did not match their requirements. He explained to me that they had discussed the issue with Groupon based on past complaints from upset customers, but that Groupon refused to change the conditions. I explained that I could understand that, but that this was an issue between Groupon and Sushi Yu, and that his customers should not be punished for that. I showed him the printed conditions on the Groupon, all of which I was satisfying, but he still refused to honor it. I explained to him that as a manger, he should understand customer service, and he should know that having unhappy customers is going to defeat the whole purpose of the promotion, and will cost his restaurant much more in revenue than he can save by refusing to honor the printed terms. He then tried to tell me this was never a problem before, and since I was the only one, it would not impact his business. Obviously, he lied about this, and I told him so, since he had just explained to me how he had tried to get Groupon to change the conditions of the deal based on past unhappy customers. He fumbled all over himself of course, having been caught in a bald-faced lie. I agree with Groupon that this should not be changed after the fact, as that is not fair to customers! He told me I could return the Groupon, and I assured him that I of course would, and that I would also never return to Sushi Yu. I cannot speak for the food here, but like many of the other reviews here, I can say that this place does not understand Customer Service, and it is clear that comes from the management. I venture to say that unless a management change is made, this place is doomed to failure, as the current manager obviously does not understand U.S. customer service expectations, and has no customer service skills. I deal with customers in my work all the time, and I would never dream to treat them as this "manager" did. He had an unpleasant demeanor and displayed no understanding whatsoever. If this place wants to survive, he needs to be fired ASAP. I just read a review on Zomato/Urban Spoon where another reviewer had an even more appalling experience with the manager there, where the Police were actually called! Obviously, this "manager" is very short-sighted and not very bright, since he is too dumb to recognize the irreparable damage he is doing to Sushi Yu's business. I can see from my experience that he did not learn his lesson after calling the Police on the other reviewer below. I guess I should count myself lucky the Police were not called! The other review also substantiates again that the manager is a liar, as he claimed there had been no other issues with the Groupons. Looking at other sites, including their own FB page, I see a clear trend now from multiple different reviewers unhappy that Sushi Yu refuses to honor the terms of the Groupon. It seems apparent he has pulled a bait and switch here, and was just using Groupon to capitalize on free publicity, while not honoring the terms of the certificate. This will ultimately fail, and Sushi Yu is doomed to failure, unless a management change is made immediately. Do yourself a favor and go to Kurishio, where the food is outstanding and they understand customer service. read more

i wish i could do minus stars! my fiance and i used to love this place! the food is great but the service and the lack of caring for their customers is amazing to me. i went there 10/21 and the waitress charged my credit card 3 times!! equaling over $100 of charges for a meal that was $28 and some change. i went up to the counter and asked how this was going to be fixed the one guy that was there was nothing but rude and didn't want to hear anything i had to say so very long story short they drained my spent account and they did nothing to fix it! today it is 5 days later and i am still waiting for my refund i have let them know and they said there's nothing they can do they did their part! and on top of everything even though i had to go through all of this they still charged me for my meal!! and did nothing to apologize! needless to say i will never be back there again and neither will anyone i introduced to this place!!! they have lost a very loyal customer over $28! way to have any type of customer service Sushi Yu!! read more

The customer service was horrible. It took about 30 minutes for my party to get a waiter. Our waiter was the host (same guy who sat us at a table). He didn't even take drink orders when he sat us down. It took 30 minutes for him to get a drink order going. After the drinks came he didn't even ask us what we wanted. He waited another 15 minutes to do so. Horrible experience. There was 2 waiter/waitress about 8 customers total (includes my party of 3) in the whole restaurant. I know for sure that my party of 3 was sat before the other 5 customers. When we went in the restaurant was empty of customers. All you can eat but they are so slow with orders. I triple ordered from the all you can eat but they still didn't deliver until i was done with the first. I was in a hungry mood. Then the waiter had the nerves to come and say that we couldn't share from the all you can eat. I was like WHAT!?!?!?!?!?! We all got the All you can eat. What's the difference if we share a piece from one to the other. WOW. Never again. This was a horrible experience. The food was just ok. Not good enough to compensate for the horrible customer service and experience. It would be 1 star but the food was decent. If I was to order the sushi by itself and not part of the all you can eat i'd rate this a 1. the serving sizes are not what they say. Some state 8 pieces but they give you 6 pieces. and the nigiri was so clammy (chewy and hard). They should have done better in defrosting the meat. It seemed like they just took the fish meat right out of the freezer and into a microwave to defrost then cut the meat and serve it. Usually really good sushi is a clean bite through the fish meat and does not have a rubbery texture. read more

Worst sushi ever! We chose this restaurant because it had 4,5 stars on yelp and photos looked fine but shortly we were deeply disappointed. We decided to try their all u can eat deal and before ordering asked waitress if there is any difference between the all u can eat and ala carte menu, she assured us that they were all made the same way. We ordered rainbow & mango rolls, also spicy salmon hand roll. Rolls were tiny mostly filled with rice we couldn't find fish in them. Spicy handrolls were terrible! Usually in other restaurants we get chunks of salmon wrapped in seeweed this time it was some bazaar mix of bread crunches and rice with maybe some salmon in it. Not to ruin our evening we ordered some nagiri which was also not fresh and half the size of normal pieces. We called the manager, who was trying to convince us that everything was the way it should be and we don't know how sushi looks. He also continued to stste that other places do it wrong. WeIf you wabt fresh, delicious well made sushi, this is not your place. We will never go back. read more

I would give them a zero, but it is not a choice. We purchased a local flavor deal for $15 for $30 of "Japanese cuisine and sushi" per the terms on the deal. We did not all purchase just sushi and in another place on the deal it stated $30 worth of sushi, however, as stated previously it also stated, "get $30 worth of Japanese cuisine and sushi." So, when it came time to pay the bill, the server stated that oh no we could not use it because it is only good for sushi. Really??? The precise reason we came to this restaurant was to use our deal we purchased. The server was rude and acted like we were confused about the deal and what it was good for. I wanted to speak with the manager and was told by the server he was the manager then he said no the manager says no that it is only good on sushi. The server stated you will just have to take that up with Local Flavor and they also would not extend the expiration date either on the deal. He literally acted like screw you and he didn't care one bit about this problem. I was appalled. Their food is not anything special at all and it is way overpriced for the amount of food you get. We will never return to this restaurant again obviously and their customer service is well clearly they do not have any. Visit at your own risk if you have any type of deal or coupon! read more
