Went to sushi holic for the first time yesterday it was off Rowland Blvd in Novato in the strip mall. It was refreshing going into the restaurant great atmosphere I sat at the sushi bar ordered Ramen and something attack roll which I can say was very delicious. I was able to to watch the sushi chefs do their magic it seems like during lunch when I went there it seems like it was mostly rolls being ordered. I just popped in here having missed lunch and decided I would go here for some sushi! Let me fess up that the name and location made me pre judge this place to be Americanized sushi and probably on boats floating around. Walking in here- seeing tables- i was like okay, i can sit and have a nice sushi meal. Looking at the specials board i noticed 3 types of Toro! 2 Tuna bellys and one Salmon. Now i have been duped by places claiming to give you toro and its not buttery but they want to charge you- well its been a long time since I've had good toro so i ordered one, just to see. Wow!! 5 stars-imagine a a 4"x2" inch drape! Got the Chirashi sushi as my meal, since i can never decide what to get and this gives you a bite of everything. 3 pieces of Maguro were like gems and no strings just the best part!! So fresh here-totally surprised! Even the miso was tasty, had tofu and seaweed- people rarely even get this right anymore. Also got Chicken Katsu to go for my husband and Salmon belly as he has been craving it but no one seems to have it lately. He said it was better than our usual spot. I had to ask the chef where he was from cause this was like a great sushi bar in Japan. He was from Kobe! Makes sense! Kansai Guy! If you have not tried this spot- def do not hesitate as the quality is far superior to a lot of little spots in Marin i tell my self are good enough. Almost sacrilegious to even put sauce on any of this fish - he is getting the best stuff and the flow of people getting food to go was constant so he must be doing well to be getting fresh fish on the regular. 5 star sushi for sure! I ordered the beef teriyaki lunch which came with rice, salad, and miso soup. The salad looks a bit wilted but it tasted okay, same goes for the rice and miso soup. The star of the show the beef teriyaki. The teriyaki sauce was a bit too watery and the steak was over cooked as you can see in the pictures. There was minimal to no char on the steak. It seemed like they steamed the steak? Also lacking in flavor. It wasn't bad but it definitely wasn't worth 21 dollars. Don't think I'll be coming back. read more

Their beef teriyaki dish is very disappointing. The beef is fatty and chewy. They use low quality meat but charge premium prices. 1 star for the beef teriyaki. I think their sushi is average. Of all the times we tried sushi there we have found one great dish and every other sushi dish has been mediocre. 2 stars for the sushi on average. Both service and ambiance have usually been decent. 2.5 stars for service and ambiance. Overall 2 stars but some potential to improve. Tried this spot for a quick lunch and I can't say I was disappointed. I wasn't quite satisfied either, just very satisfactory. I had the beef teriyaki and California roll lunch special combo and the beef was okay but a bit bland. My wife had the chicken katsu curry which was okay as well but the curry was very bland.
