My cousins ordered food from Susie's for their mom's celebration of life today. I regret that I live an hour away from Susie's because we would have to eat there everyday. Lasagna-OMG! The baked chicken was so tender and juicy! Bacon wrapped meatloaf is worth driving an hour to eat! Her apple pie was one of the best I have ever had.... The crust was so flaky! But the Hoho cakeshould be illegal to serve, so moist and the chocolate topping! I will never forget this dessert. Thank you for such a fine meal! read more

Okay here's another one for Vermilion that is a must stop though I was a bit confused on their open time so if you're in a hurry, call the day before to confirm! I wasn't so I had no qualms. That said, this is a local breakfast and lunch spot and it is just like you imagine. Small, neighborly, and homemade. I can't recall the name of my breakfast but it gave you the staples -- eggs, bacon and two hot cakes. I added breakfast potatoes and had a chocolate milk. It was more food than I could handle so go hungry. The total was actually less than I anticipated for all I got (portions are far more so order less and add on if still hungry). There were regulars there when I sat down and the owner seemed to know each of them. That's the spot I like-- the hometown spot to grab good food and catch up with the locals. The hotcakes alone were enough to bring me back to Susie's! Make sure you add that to you breakfast/lunch spots before leaving the beach town. You won't regret it. The diner is smaller and had dim lighting but the smells from the bacon and griddle make your mouth water. Be patient and thoughtful but be hungry when you go! read more

Wonderful little hole in lin the wall. Great food all the service was friendly. My husband got the corned beef hash it was real corned beef cut into chunks not that mushy stuff from a can. I got the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were light and fluffy the gravy was excellent. My daughter got the pancake we usually order an egg on the side Incase one pancake isn't enough. Susies is a no-frills diner located in one of the main plazas in Vermilion. My family placed a breakfast order for pick-up while in the area. It was hard to find an accurate menu online, and note the ones on social media are not current. Since we didn't stay and dine-in, we didn't get the full impression of this quaint spot. I ordered the western omelet with home fries and a side of fruit. It was exactly what I expected! A nothing fancy omelet but hit the spot for breakfast, and the value is tremendous, especially since breakfast joints can typically be overpriced. Highly recommend getting a side of fruit - loved the huge watermelon slice in it. Also: Susie is a real person! I didn't meet her when I went, but the gal working was very nice. This is your typical greasy spoon. I personally like those kinds of places. I do have a couple of issues with this place that I will start with. One it's kind of dirty and the whole place was like a deep fryer but it is a greasy spoon so that's generally what you should expect. My main issue is from what I understand they say their muffins are home made. They are not. Not any of them are homemade. They have some that clearly look look like they are store-bought and some that look like they could have made them. But when I went to use the restroom I walked by the kitchen and I saw several packages of muffins that were clearly store-bought. It's just kind of integrity thing for me. Also when I was there it was very busy (every table was full) and there was only one waitress who also had to ring people out. It was just a lot for one person to do. They could use another waitress at times. I do need to mention that the waitress that was working was busting her tail and provided the best customer service possible in the situation she was in. I wasn't too crazy about the coffee but it's typical diner coffee do you know what you're getting there. For breakfast I had French toast, eggs, sausage, and shredded hashbrowns. The food overall was very good the French toast was simple but it was made well, eggs are eggs, The sausage links were pretty good sometimes you can get gross ones at diners, and the hashbrowns were very good and I'm pretty picky about my hashbrowns. My friend that was with me had the corn beef hash which I tried and it was delicious. She also had a pancake. Believe me when I say if you order the pancake you only need one and I believe they sell a short stack of them there's no reason you need that many. This pancake was the size of my face and probably at least an inch thick. I didn't try it but my friend said it was delicious. What I love about this place is that it has a real homestyle feel. You can tell this is definitely a place that has a lot of regulars! I will definitely return. read more

Went there on a recommendation from another restaurant. Susie got us some coffee and then left. Only server helped a couple that came AFTER us and took their order. 2 other tables were finishing up their meals..... and that was the sum total of folks in the place. 10 minutes go by and we figure the server thought Susie took our order so we cut her some slack. So I turned and said we would like to order. She gave me a "look" and said she'd get to us. Doing pretty much nothing for another 3 minutes we put down $6 for the overpriced coffee and left. Let me start off with the service. Our waitress was great. She was fast and took care of our needs. My husband enjoyed his food. Mine not so much. They immediately made me another plate and the apologies just kept on coming. We were very appreciative of the $6.00 discount they gave. Now the cleanliness of this restaurant needs major attention. My husband was appalled at the site of the bathroom. I did not use the restroom. The dessert refrigerator was dirty all the way around. We went to Vermillion for an Art Show in the park. Actually we found 3 events. The art show and 2 farmer market type stops on the way. It was nice. Wanted to have lunch at a local place. They seem to have lots of pizza type places but didn't want pizza. Found the place in a strip mall. It's a breakfast lunch place closes at 3p. Menu is varied and you have lots of choices. Homestyle at its best. I got the chef salad and my friend got the fried bologna sandwich with cottage cheese. She also switched out the bread. It comes in a roll and she wanted rye which they easily accommodated. She enjoyed the sandwich but I thought it looked a bit skimpy. I expected it to be a bit beefier or larger. It was rather small. But she did enjoy it. My chef salad was actually really good. Lots of turkey, ham, cheese, veggies. It was honestly large and good. I would order it again in a minute. Service was good. The Server was nice and helpful. The prices were reasonable. Portions OK. I would go back and try more things and also get the chef salad again. I read the sign and I saw that it said this place makes food from scratch and it may take longer than "fast food" but 45 minutes for pancakes is not acceptable. And I felt like this sign was an excuse for their slow service. If you can't accommodate your guests in a timely manner, higher more help or take away some tables. And the older man in the back who came out occasionally was barely dressed for home life let alone working at a restaurant. Came from out of town! Best breakfast food ever! We had an interesting experience because the chef burned his hand while making my tables food, but the waitresses made up for it! They brought us a fruit plate to hold us over (when the chef burnt his hand he knocked down all the food on the line so our food was ready and then it went crashing to the floor) and kept our cups full! They had such a positive attitude and were very open about what had happened, and I believe the chef ended up being okay (he went to the hospital- grease burn ) !!! Don't be fooled by the location of this small cafe the food really packs a punch! My boyfriend and I came here on a Sunday morning (you should get there before the church crowd) and were pleased to find out EVERYTHING is homemade. There is a sign by the register that explains since everything is made from scratch they are more about quality than the quickness of their service. We did wait awhile for our food but a) we were warned and b) the food is worth the wait! There was one server for the entire place that has roughly 10 tables. She is very friendly and always making sure that your experience is good. They serve breakfast ALL day- who doesn't love that?! They always have a quiche and soup of the day. My boyfriend ordered the Philly Cheesesteak Omelette with hash browns and a coffee. He raved about all of it! I didn't try a bite of his dish because I was too busy scarfing down my own dish which was one of the quiches of the day- Spinach, Tomato and Bacon that comes with a fresh baked muffin and fruit salad. There are about 5 choices a fresh homemade muffins to choose from and I picked the Banana Nut- O.M.G. this muffin was one of the best! They will even warm it up for you in the microwave if you prefer to eat it warm. We are so excited to come back and eat lunch. Sad Service! We attempted to eat here and when we arrived the restaurant, which holds about 30 to 40 people tops, was full. We said we would sit at the table outside and eat, we asked for water to drink. 15 minutes later after waiting and watching 3 tables finish and pay... they continued to sit and chat away. We were still not served a menu or water. Then the waitress came out (still with no water or menus) and said that she was told to tell us that it would be over an hour before we would be served. An hour? To make eggs? Please!! We walked away and told the waitress that we had been excited to try this place for the first time, but sadly we wouldn't be back after that. Do not go if you are in a rush! Service and food was quite slow since there is only 1 waitress/host/cashier. Seems like they need a 2nd waitress. The waitress forgot my water which was fine since she was very busy. Our food order took about an hour. There was an order at a table of 5 that probably slowed things down. Corner beer hash with poached eggs was fine. The breakfast bowl was ok too. Everything was ok, but since the service was so slow, we probably would not make a special trip to go back. We ended up sitting outside to eat and even though we were there before a few other people who sat inside they were served before us. We felt like we didn't even matter to them at Susie's. I recently came home to visit my parents I graduated from Vermilion and was pretty much run out of The Nest Restaurant with my service animal which was illegal but was taken in at Susie's like we were family I had my id's for my service animal and they treated me well they brought my dog water we had a wonderful breakfast not one sideways look from any management or servers but at the nest they treated me horrible so I really appreciate everything you did for me there at Susie's thank you and I will come back again and again for the service and food. Three of us went to Susie's for breakfast. We ordered three omelettes. Over an hour later we had not been served. People that came in after us got served. One of them was a friend of the owner. The only person who apologized was our waitress. When my husband commented to the owner that the table after us got served she giggled and said she knew but would give us a discount. No apology. The quiche was like nothing I've ever had. It was thick and dense in the bottom - almost a cornmeal base with a thin layer of egg and the day's ingredients on top.
