Unacceptable Service, Inaccurate Prescriptions, Refusal to Refund, and Threatening Behavior at The…read moreOptical & Hearing Center (Matamoras, PA) I had a deeply frustrating and unethical experience at The Optical & Hearing Center in Matamoras, PA, involving multiple failed attempts to provide usable prescriptions for contacts and glasses, refusal to honor basic patient rights, billing disputes, and retaliatory threats. * After three separate visits (including payments for a contact lens fitting and eye exam), they admitted they could not fit me for contacts and referred me to a specialist. I went elsewhere, paid again, and was properly fitted on the first try. * I then ordered glasses for $715. The prescription was inaccurate and the glasses were unusable. Patrick Scully (the manager/optometrist there) refused to correct the issue without charging me an additional $250-$300 to "fix their mistake." They also refused to provide a copy of what they billed my insurance and would not accept returns initially. * I later left the glasses with a female employee. My initial visit was in September; after months of unresolved arguments, I disputed the charges on my credit card in November. The credit card company ruled in my favor. * The business sent the account to collections. The collections agency dropped the claim after I provided documentation (including my chart and proof of the unusable prescription). * Just two days ago, Patrick Scully called me, claiming he had contacted the police, who were coming to my home to arrest me for not returning the glasses. This is false--I had already returned them. He also falsely told the police that I had intentionally defrauded them by disputing charges right after my visit (another lie, as the dispute occurred months later). * They never refunded my insurance company. When my insurance contacted them for documentation, they refused to provide it. My insurance has now escalated the matter, citing potential unethical behavior and insurance fraud. Under federal law (the FTC's Eyeglass Rule) and related state regulations, providers must provide patients with a copy of their prescription and ensure it is usable. This business failed on multiple fronts and appears to be engaging in retaliatory tactics against dissatisfied customers. If you've had similar experiences at any of their locations (Matamoras, PA; Newton, NJ; Oak Ridge, NJ; Stroudsburg, PA; etc.)--such as inaccurate prescriptions, extra charges to correct their errors, refusal to take back defective glasses, threats over civil disputes, or retaliation for negative reviews--please reach out to me at imediagroupnj@gmail.com. I can share an email template to file complaints with the Pennsylvania (or New Jersey) Attorney General's Office, the State Board of Optometry, and other relevant authorities. Reading reviews across their locations shows a pattern of one-star complaints, similar issues, and reports of retaliation for leaving honest feedback. This company needs to be held accountable. No one should face threats or financial harm over a civil dispute like this. Do not let unethical practices continue--share your story and report it.

After the test, she explained the results, options and made a recommendation, which was quite different from her prior experience (8 years before). My mother agreed with Meredith, who then made the mold of her ear. They called when the hearing aid was ready; this visit was with the other audiologist, Eric. He was just as thorough in explaining the use and care of my mother's hearing aid, then fit her and programmed it using the computer, which fine tuned it to the right level. Eric patiently answered all the questions my mother asked him. So far, I am pleased that my mother can now understand everything I'm saying to her without having to repeat myself! I'm sure our other relatives who come to visit her will be pleasantly surprised. The location is 1 block off of the Parkway exit ramp (exit 135) if you're driving northbound. If coming southbound, you just go around through the intersection. The waiting area is clean, with more than enough comfortable seats. There were plenty of open spots in their parking lot. There are NO STAIRS, which is wonderful ~ only a small curb separates the wide driveway from the sidewalk, which the front door is level with. The woman at the front desk, Val, is business-like and helpful. She completes their staff of 3. Their hours are VERY LIMITED (10-4, M-F) which caused a 3 month delay between the 1st & 2nd appointments which conflicted with my husbands work hours and when he was next able to take off. He is the only one my wheelchair-bound mother trusts to transport her anywhere. In the interim, my mother spoke with a friend of hers about her experience; the friend told her that there are companies who will come to a patients home. Aside from that problem, which most likely would affect a small number of their patients, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND The Hearing Center for their attributes and would have given them a 5 star rating! If I learn of any changes or additions to their hours and/or days, I will post an update to this review.

One time I got a call the night before saying my appt was canceled, the next morning I got a call asking why I wasn't at my appointment. When I threw on some sweats and rushed to the doctor the front desk said that no one canceled my appointment, after I replayed the voicemail for them the head office manager said "oh well I didn't call". Each time I come here it's the same bs delays. Front office women gossiping behind a desk and not being helpful at all while the one or two assistants for the doctors run around and do all the actual work. The secretaries and office staff really ruin this place. If you are moving to Sussex County or trying to find a new primary doctor or office I would highly recommend avoiding Skylands Medical Group at all costs. ... side note I am still at my appointment right now, coming up on the 3rd hour of being here. What a joke.
