Nearly three hundred bucks for glasses that actually hurt my eyes. When I took them off, my eyes were literally going in opposite directions. It freaked me out. Unacceptable Service, Inaccurate Prescriptions, Refusal to Refund, and Threatening Behavior at The Optical & Hearing Center (Matamoras, PA) I had a deeply frustrating and unethical experience at The Optical & Hearing Center in Matamoras, PA, involving multiple failed attempts to provide usable prescriptions for contacts and glasses, refusal to honor basic patient rights, billing disputes, and retaliatory threats. * After three separate visits (including payments for a contact lens fitting and eye exam), they admitted they could not fit me for contacts and referred me to a specialist. I went elsewhere, paid again, and was properly fitted on the first try. * I then ordered glasses for $715. The prescription was inaccurate and the glasses were unusable. Patrick Scully (the manager/optometrist there) refused to correct the issue without charging me an additional $250-$300 to "fix their mistake." They also refused to provide a copy of what they billed my insurance and would not accept returns initially. * I later left the glasses with a female employee. My initial visit was in September; after months of unresolved arguments, I disputed the charges on my credit card in November. The credit card company ruled in my favor. * The business sent the account to collections. The collections agency dropped the claim after I provided documentation (including my chart and proof of the unusable prescription). * Just two days ago, Patrick Scully called me, claiming he had contacted the police, who were coming to my home to arrest me for not returning the glasses. This is false--I had already returned them. He also falsely told the police that I had intentionally defrauded them by disputing charges right after my visit (another lie, as the dispute occurred months later). * They never refunded my insurance company. When my insurance contacted them for documentation, they refused to provide it. My insurance has now escalated the matter, citing potential unethical behavior and insurance fraud. Under federal law (the FTC's Eyeglass Rule) and related state regulations, providers must provide patients with a copy of their prescription and ensure it is usable. This business failed on multiple fronts and appears to be engaging in retaliatory tactics against dissatisfied customers. After waiting for over one month for an appointment I was very much looking forward to my exam. When I arrived, the receptionist was lovely and my virtual eye exam was pretty cool. However, my experience quickly shifted upon encountering the rude and unaccommodating demeanor of a staff member during the prescription filling process. Despite selecting glasses from the sale area, I was informed at the payment stage that they were incorrectly marked and would not be honored at the sale price. Despite the employee's acknowledgment of the error, she refused to rectify it, even after I requested to speak to the manager, who displayed a similar lack of concern. Overall, what started as a promising experience quickly shifted by poor customer service and a dismissive attitude from the staff. Disgusted by the ordeal, I left without making a purchase. There are plenty of lovely eye centers in the Newton area so I recommend staying away from this particular center. read more

Yesterday Had my eyes examined at the optical center, I can't say enough about the caring staff I recently hurt my knee It's hard for me to get around even though they were extremely busy they took the time to help me and do a thorough exam. I broke my glasses so it was time to get another pair The staff next door took their time they're time and not only picked out a great pair for me to wear They also found a frame that I could put my old ones's in So I could have a spare or a work pair. Last week I left a not so nice review of my experience with this establishment. I really didn't want to go back because I was not happy. After I received a call from Rebecca apologizing (which I really appreciated it) I decided to go back and give them another chance. What a different experience. My appointment was at at 11 and they took me in at exactly 11. I was in and out in a half hour. I just want to say that I understand that they may have had emergencies or whatever else was going on that day, I just wish it was relayed to me. Very dull staff on the optometrist side. Just not friendly. I brought in a valid contact lens rx to purchase contacts. They had one in stock and would have to order the other eye. Great, no problem. I am currently wearing glasses because I ran out while on vacation. I politely asked for one sample lens to hold me over until the order arrives. They said no, it's their policy. So I left. I have worked for many years in the industry and providing a lens or two is a courtesy for customers for ordering through a small business as opposed to 1-800- contacts. Guess who is getting my business next??? I try to shop local- but there is no flexibility. I do not recommend this business. read more

I'll apologize in advance for the long story you're about to read.. but I think you'll find it worth it: So... I went to the Optical Center to have my prescription sunglasses made. I didn't need to be examined as I had brought my own prescription with me from my eye doctor, so my review is actually about the eyeglass portion of the center rather than the examination side: My sunglasses were ready in 2 days (pretty good turnaround, I thought). Only problem was that everything was blurry. Bummer. A gentleman name Johnathan works with me to try and correct the issue. He tries adjusting this... and adjusting that... no improvement. He double checks to make sure the lenses are made correctly to the scrip.. they are. After spending a ton of time trying to make these glasses work, Jonathan suggests they remake the lenses. Perhaps something is wrong that he just can't put his finger on. Two days later...new lenses are in...try them on...same result: Everything is blurry! Once again, Johnathan tries adjusting this and adjusting that... no improvement. John is at a loss..everything is made correctly, so he suggests I come back and see Steve, as he may be able to figure out whats wrong with my glasses. I see Steve. He tries adjusting this... and adjusting that... no improvement! Steve then says that he will personally make a new set of lenses. Two days later... glasses are in....guess what? SAME THING! adjust adjust..yadda yadda... no change. Everything is made correctly.. what the heck is going on? Steve is at a loss, too. So, he takes the regular glasses that I am wearing (which are the same prescription as the sunglasses that he made) and hooks them up to whatever little voodoo doohickey machine they have in the back room that reads actual the prescription of the glasses I'm currently wearing...guess what? It's different! It turns out that my eye doctor sent over the wrong prescription! I was never going to be able to see clearly using that prescription. Steve calls my eye doctor. Eye doctor says: "Oops", and sends over correct prescription. Steve makes new lenses based on correct prescription, and, presto! Miracle of miracles, I can see! Now, here's why the 5 Star Review: I went through several sets of lenses, made several visits at over an hour each visit trying to adjust and make the glasses work. Throughout all of this, the girls behind the counter, Johnathan and Steve all treated me professionally and courteously. I admit, I was embarrassed to keep coming back, but never once did they get impatient, roll their eyes, or act as if I was crazy. They always made me feel comfortable and as if I was the most important person on their schedule. Every time I apologized for being so difficult, their only response was: "Please don't apologize. The only thing that's important is that we figure out what's wrong so we can get you to see correctly." So.. in the end.. when they finally got the correct prescription, my eyeglasses were perfect........the first time. Just as important: The level of service was professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Johnathan and Steve were both awesome to work with. I recently called so I could order contact lens - from the optometrist side. I was put on hold and then someone from the store gets on the phone and tells me the doctor side and the store side are owned by the same person; they won't let me have contacts since I wrote a negative review about the store. They told me that maybe if I REMOVE the negative review, then they could possibly talk the manager into allowing me to get contacts. Let me repeat that for ALL to see... THEY REFUSED TO ALLOW ME TO CONTINUE SEEING MY OPTOMETRIST, OF 8 YEARS, JUST BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T LIKE MY NEGATIVE REVIEW OF THE STORE SIDE'S HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. They tried to shake me down so I'd remove the negative report. You'd think a professional business would want the second opportunity to prove me wrong in the hopes of getting me to recant from experience. NOPE. Not at Newton's Optical Center. Doctors side (vision) is great but the store portion is horrible. They did not clean their size testing binocular things and I got an eyelid infection. I had one of the worst experience ever in my life at this Optical center in Newton. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Doctor there ( who is really nice) recommended that I try the multifocal contact lenses, cost of which is around $440. I was told that I cannot return it as it is custom and they will not get their money back. Now, I am not sure about others but to me it is custom for everyone who has to get lenses as prescriptions can change and it has to fit according to the person etc. So not sure what they are talking about. Right then and then I should have realized that they do not care whether a patient is satisfied or not as long as they get the money. But I made the mistake of taking it anyway because it looked like these lenses would work fine for me. Meanwhile I tried it and while it was fine during the day, I started seeing double vision at night, it was really hard seeing at night. I was really scared driving with these on at night. I went back and was told that this does happen to certain people. Optical center in Newton refused to give me my money back even though they returned the lenses back to the manufacturer. I would have kept it if it worked properly. I got instead the mono vision which was $181. Doctor asked me to see if maybe one eye would work as multifocal and instead of ordering the right lens, they send back the same lens. I was told basically " too bad", that they told me that they were not going to give my money back. So their motive must be to get your money and who cares if you are happy. They rather take your money and not give service. The manager of the place has absolutely no understanding of basic customer support and how to make a customer happy so that they keep coming back to you, Spending $441 on lenses that did not work for me and instead of working with me to make sure that I can see and am happy, they rather keep the money and state that this is the way it is. I will never go there ever again. I rather go to a place like Lens Crafters where they would give you the lenses to try and see if it fits and then make a decision if you want them rather than being forced to keep them. To me, Optical center of Newton returned the items to the manufacturer, so keeping my money is essentially stealing from me which to them is perfectly fine. I work in the customer service and I can tell you that we would ever treat our customers this way. My president even if it is custom, if the customer is not happy, he would do what he needs to ensure that they are satisfied. This manager at Optical Center in Newton can learn a valuable lesson in handling customers from him. One of the worst optical centers ever in my experience. My sister, Holly, called to make an appointment for an eye exam because she found glasses that she loved AT your unfortunate place of business and wanted to purchase but wanted to have an updated script in the lenses. After getting her glasses adjusted on June 15th 2020, again, at your establishment (please check the paper she signed relinquishing responsibility of your business in case something were to happen in the back while adjusting the glasses while patients are unable to see what you guys are actually doing to the glasses) at least the glasses assistant was the most AMAZING women she had met there (she had a phenix tattoo and is the only person at the establishment that deserves five stars) she called today, the 16th to find out her account was flagged due to MY REVIEW OF YOUR ESTABLISHMENT. But you let the rest of our family continue to get glasses and $600+ worth of contacts, right? I would really love for a manager to call me from this nuisances of a business, or lack there of. read more

Patrick the Regional Manager of 2 Outlets stated that their outlets were open at the height of the Pandemic during March, April, May and June. I had started my eye exams and paid for them in February. I was not given prescriptions because they closed. When I returned on September 22, 2020 they told me my 90 days were up since my 1st visit in February. Therefore I would have to pay for all new exams again. I'll see them in court and contacting medicare for fraud as well as the Governor, Congressman, Better Business Bureau and Consumer Affairs. I drove by their numerous times and they were never opened. read more

I went in for an eye exam, I was told I needed prescription glasses, I was directed to the eye glass area, I was then upsold on certian products, such as progressive lenses, after receiving the new glasses, I wore them for several days. I experienced dizzyness, and headaches. I was advised to bring them back. After further review by the sales person, they reccommended a re check, another doctor re tested me, and advised me that I dont need glasses, I need reading glasses only. I spent $340.00 over the insurance coverage for glasses I dont need, and they advised me that since the lenses were already made, they were not refundable. If the procedure was done correctly the first time, I wouldnt need the glasses in the first place, and I shouldnt have to pay for something I dont need. By far the BEST place I've been to next to a Pearle vision center . Staff was extremely knowledgable. Ask for Rick he helped me and went far and beyond to help me in my situation. Him and the others had an extreme amount of information. Frame choice are average but unless you're looking for ridiculous high end frames . Prices are reasonable and to be honest the experience was worth every penny definitely would recommend. read more

This is by far the worst optical place I have ever been to. The girls in the office don't seem to care, they are like ditzy high schoolers. The Dr. that I had complained the whole time that the supplies kept running out and acted like it was such a bother that I was her last appt. I only went here because it was the only place that takes my crappy insurance. I ordered glasses, which give me a headache and don't fit right and when I went back I was told to "give it time and let your eyes adjust". I tried but they are just horrible. The contacts I was given to try I couldn't clearly see the signs on the road while driving home and when I complained they told me to come in for another $75 contact lens evaluation. No thanks. I'll be paying out of pocket to see someone who can actually help me see clearly. Avoid at all costs. Literally costs. read more

This place has a great side and a not so great side. On the doctor's side, it's a wonderful place. The doctor is super friendly, the eye exam is very thorough with all modern machinery and everything is very clean and professional. The downside is the price of frames on the sales side. However, you are not bound to buying your frames here obviously. You can ask for your RX and then go elsewhere with it to purchase or purchase online, which we will now do. After buying my son's glasses (with insurance) and purchasing the warranty, we were still out $130 and then when they broke and were covered under warranty, it still wasn't free to fix them, but was cheaper. So we'll go here for our exams as always, but will purchase elsewhere. read more

The woman who helped me choose the glasses was terrific. I was fortunate to get such fast service as it saved my trip. The price was great and the selection was huge. read more

Cannot recommend. I believe the business must be under different ownership from when I got 3 pair of prescription glasses several years ago. When i needed one of them adjusted recently, they refused to help me saying "its been too many years since you came in". Seriously?!? Because I haven't needed new glasses/their services, they won't service the glasses I bought from them! I went to The Matamoras Pa. Location Upstate, and was given the run around several times because I asked for my RX after I was unsatisfied with the services provided, first off-did not have both lens I needed and wasn't give the one they did have & told I had to wait, ok cool so when the other came in I pick up both, wore them a day, felt discomfort in L and put in drops thinking because they were new and (forgot to mention) "These are a new brand, and I think they will be good for your eye"-O.& H. Optical Doctor so after 6-8 hour I knew they were no gonna work, they felt like I could feel the outer ring of the lens pressing on my eye, called center informed them, said to reschedule another exam-did and doctor never looked in my eye-(lady doctor) just said I'll order new sample-I insist that I'd just rather get the old brand I got from Wal-mart last year, The Air Optics Brand and was quickly double-talked and told it may just have been a bad sample. Next day the R lens started feeling the ring, same as L and I called and said I'm not buying these because they are uncomfortable-not spending my cash on something that does not feel good in my eye, may I please just have my RX since you do not want to order me the kind that feel great in my eye. Horrible Customer Service, LONG WAITING in Nearly Empty waiting room, examiners make you feel rushed during the process, I have read a few ok reviews on here, that seem decent I guess that would apply OnlyifyourWhite. read more

I have never had more difficulty with a business in my life. The only reason I can give it one star is because the doctor is great. The employees are lazy and disrespectful. Every time I would fill my contact prescription in the past they'd only give me one eye and I'd return home with only right eye contacts. I know other people who have had the same issue. So then I switched to 1800-contacts, which has been excellent. Although they needed my prescription in order to process the order. So, they called the optical center over 12 times for my prescription and kept getting hung up on. The young girls who work there have no sense of professionalism, and lack even the basic skills required for their business to function. A shining example of customer service! Not only do they provide high end designer frames they also work tirelessly to provide customers with the best price. Sales people are highly skilled and Knowledgeable and work with you to determine how best to save you the most in your purchase. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, not pushy like some of the big box retailers. I was shocked to see great Quality frames for as low as $19. Even with a tight budget the sales girl I was working with skillfully pulled frames and gave me lens options that both satisfied my budget and vision needs. Even more comforting was knowing that I received a warranty with my glasses, being a parent, knowing that my child can be a little hard on my glasses, knowing that my frame and lenses could be replaced if damaged made it all the more easy to pick what I wanted. My prescription was from an outside doctor but I look forward to trying out there doctor for my next visit. read more

Substandard materials used on lenses , i was lucky i put insurance in my glasses. Twice in six monts scuffs are on apex of lenses. 11 yrs of lenscrafter i was satisfied customer. Just moved up here figured I would give a local a shot...1000$ for two pairs . My everyday glasses are the issue. Second time I brought them back , I was rudely treated , they obviously dont want my business because im sure the issue will continue with scuffing on crap coated lens. Very friendly staff.. I went there because they had a HUGE selection of frames. Their staff was very patient, and offered their opinion on my frames. I knew they were being honest, because they chose the less expensive frame from the two I was choosing between. After that, they tried to get me an appointment with the doctor on staff, but there wasn't one available, so we scheduled one for the next day. Dr. Cervon was great! Friendly, and must really know what he's doing because I can see again!! (thanks to glasses which I got 1/2 an hour after my exam was finished) My advice, though.. Make an appointment. By far the absolute worst establishment in Newton. I'm disabled and on Medicaid and was told twice my insurance covered my visit, when I got there and my exam was over, diagnostic contacts in my eyes already, I was told it would be $120 for visit. They lied to me on the phone, embarrassed me in the office and keep threatening me. I'm seeking legal counsel. Do not go there, I should have listened to everyone that warned me. I have used the Optical Center for over 10 years for eyeglasses and contacts. I have never had a problem. My contact prescription expires just like any other medical prescription would. It seems a shame that people post negative reviews because of industry regulations. read more

Yes, and I agree the front people are young, inexperienced employees, and probably hired because the owner will not shell out more than minimum wage. The last time I went there they wanted $700 + for glasses with all the frills (what like thin lenses and non-glare "whoopee"). I agree with other reviews as far as warranty goes, It's the "PRESIDENT SHAWN W. BENSON " who signed , sealed ,& delivered as to why I will NEVER purchase from there. While I had legitimate complaint with 1 day left on warranty, which he would not honor He asked me & I quote "Who is the Ironworker?" I replied my husband ,Mr. Benson then asks "IS HE STILL ALIVE"?, this man has no class, kooth, TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL.My husband had a terrible accident 2 months ago. The office in Oak Ridge is a waste of time. The employees are not to the same standard as they are in Newton. We attempted twice to get a simple recheck and pick up lenses. The first time was a 45 minute wait despite our appointment time. The second time they didn't even have our lenses (again, we had an appointment). I would have assumed if you were coming in confirm your trail pair is good, they would have your contacts in stock. They told us they would be ordered and we could pick them up the next day. After taking two days off of work, I am finally giving up and am going to Newton. read more

This facility has 2 sides... On one side are the doctor's - awesome facility! I've been going there more than 4 years & never had a problem - I would give them a 4 star. On the other side is the store to buy glasses. Stay away from them! The manager is a real jerk & nasty. I ordered glasses and he was simply rude throughout the process. Against my gut feeling I left, yet I felt very uncomfortable & realized I made a mistake. I called the store when I got home (about an hour later)... no one answered the phone so I left a message to please cancel the order. No one called me back - it was late Friday afternoon so it didn't concern me when I didn't get a call bac that night. I called again the next morning at 8am to reiterate that I was cancelling the order. The manager called me back at 9am & said it was too late to cancel the order! Mind you, we're talking about 2 calls, not even 24 hrs. & he would not cancel the order! Initially when ordering, I was told that it would take 5 to 7 business days to get the glasses. There is no way my glasses were ready overnight on a Friday night. I made it clear that I did not want the glasses & felt I called fast enough to cancel. I also called my insurance company to document the issue. I have a limited allowance from my insurance company & felt that I rather use it towards my contacts. That man (the store manager) put the order through against my wishes & put the claim through to take my limited insurance allotment simply because he didn't want to lose the sale. His claim for payment is on hold & now there is a hold on my insurance coverage until the insurance company clears up my account. I had to file a formal complaint to keep him from taking my allotment. Now I need to pay for my contacts until my complaint against them is cleared up. Never do business with a store that would do that! I won't even give them 1 star! read more
