I love the Sutter Club! Everything about this historical landmark is perfection. The walls are adorned with timeless, classic photos of past members, beautiful, art, and did I mention how the tasteful touches are everywhere?! Yes, you either need to be a member, which you should, or, be invited by a member to enjoy. What is definitely one of the better dining experiences in all of Sacramento. The service is impeccable, the white stuff is impressive, and the experience is top notch. It's truly all that and more. The bar staff makes without a doubt some of the best martinis that I've had in town. They know what they're doing, and they do it to perfection. Beautiful place for a classic wedding in Sacramento, CA. The staff and food at The Sutter Club are amazing. It's always a adventure coming to this secluded members-only Club. This particular event was downstairs which is an area I've never been in. I'm sure there's several areas I've never been in because women were not allowed here for the longest time. This room was just as nice as the upstairs room, but with more space. I love the architecture in each room from the windows to the scrolling stair rails....this place is beautiful. The staff was super friendly except for the head lead, Joelle, that got a little snippy with back talk. I was shocked and uncomfortable. The Sutter Club typically opens their doors to members only, but I've managed to sneak my way into a couple events. I've only visited twice, but liked what I saw. Coincidentally, looking at stuff was the main thing I did here. Food: Both events I attended were catered, but I'm not sure if the Sutter Club made the magic happen or if the food came in through an independent entity. The first event featured tons of fresh seafood. What a total trip to snoresville. Atmosphere: When I first saw this building, I knew I had to find a way to get inside and see what it was all about. The exterior screams 1920s Mediterranean and the interior looks like a richly decorated library. Even just standing inside was a relaxing experience. Service: I don't know how typical this is, but the catering for one of the events I attended was amazing. They actually had a sushi bar in the kitchen where you could walk in and take whatever you liked. Beyond that, they also have people meandering around with hors d'ovuvres. As far as I could tell, they were pretty good about offering samples to everyone in the room. The Sutter Club is for members-only and is housed in one of Sacramento's historical buildings. I was able to attend my husband's holiday party because the main partner happened to be a member. The service: Very polite and accommodating. I loved how there was a coat check, a bathroom attendant, an attendant that served appetizers, and an attendant for the bar. All of our needs were met. The food: The food was delicious!! The appetizers were sooo good it could have been a whole meal on its own. Large prawns, huge meatballs, etc. I had the prime rib and mash potatoes as my main entrée. I literally ate everything off my plate. I'm pretty sure I was the only female that did. lol. The parking was included thank God because trying to find street parking was horrific. The place is located in downtown Sac, and it's a members only club. Way out of my league. As others have stated this is a private club but it is so ridiculously easy to get into without a membership there's really nothing private about it. Not only is it a easy to get into but their events tend to be super spreaders for COVID-19 because they don't require their guests or even their EMPLOYEES to wear masks. So if you enjoy over paying for the sake of "exclusivity" and having the bartender spit in your drink check this place out! read more

If you're lucky enough to get an invite to the Sutter Club, this is not a venue to miss! Whether you're coming here for a wedding, a luncheon, or drinks, the Sutter Club is exquisite. While the club was founded in 1889, and is one of the oldest private clubs in California, the building itself didn't actually open until 1930. While the entrance is easy to miss if you don't know what you're looking for, the inside of the Sutter Club is truly beautiful. I love descending the staircase and entering the bar for drinks, then heading up to the California room for dinner. The library is also very cozy, with a large fireplace and bookshelves stocked with very old first edition books. I've been coming here since 1999, and have had the pleasure of attending many of the annual events open to club members' family members. The Father Daughter Dinner Dance is one of my favorite traditions; it's always held shortly after New Years, and includes dinner, drinks, dancing, caricatures, and more fun! Other family favorite events at the Sutter Club include the Christmas luncheons, Thanksgiving Dinner, and summertime on the terrace. Chef Jack always makes delicious food, uses fresh ingredients, and is very accommodating to any allergies or food restrictions you may have. In addition to the food, everyone who works at the Sutter Club is super nice. All in all, I always look forward to coming to the Sutter Club for its rich heritage, charm, and impeccably-planned events. It's truly one of the best parts of living in Sacramento! read more

Finest institutional dining in the Sacramento Region. You need to be sponsored by a Sutter Club member, but if you're lucky enough to be CONNECTED......you want to have your wedding reception here! The staff are all friendly, helpful and attentive. Culinary skills in the kitchen are top notch: they have an Executive Chef who's cooked at some of the finest restaurants. Whether its the exquisite Rack of Lamb, or their signature Filet Mignon, or the wild Alaskan Salmon, your dinner will be superior to that served by all the major hotels and banquet facilities in the Sacramento region. (In a side note, I can't believe that I'm the first Yelper to review the Sutter Club......as its a Sacramento institution and Historical Landmark. I believe its where Gov. I adore the Sutter Club.. Its old-fashioned dark wood-paneled walls, excellent service, opulent bathrooms and quiet hallways. It's a world away from the Capitol bustle next door. The food is absolutely divine! I generally have their fish - the halibut, salmon and sole I've had are perfectly done with understated flavors, and complemented by simple but perfectly seasoned side dishes. Their classic salad with julienned apples, candied pecans and Stilton is to die for! Service is gracious and attentive. This is a private social club, so unless you are a member, or are invited by a member, or are going to an event held there, you'll never know how fabulous this place is. Cell phones and pagers (who owns a pager in 2013??) are absolutely forbidden. There is no blaring TV broadcasting some sporting event. There is simply hushed conversations, excellent attentive service, and GREAT FOOD. I have attended banquet-style events there, and am amazed that even though they have to deliver 115 plates of hot food at roughly the same time, it still arrives temperature-appropriate and delicious. As mentioned by other reviewers, this is a private club. Had lunch in the dining room. Beautiful view overlooking the Capitol Building. The room is very formal, but the food is excellent. Next time I am going to go for the Grill Room, which is less formal and has a little more activity. Parking is very convenient for downtown Sac. This is a beautiful old building, I was here today for a meeting. This place is so loud, you simply can not hold a meeting in this building. I ran into an extremely rude employee (of course no name tag and he refused to give me his name) I still had to continue with my meeting and this was not my main goal of the day. Nevertheless this employee was nasty and rude. The nasty employee yelled at a couple of people who were quietly using their cell phones in the lobby are. And what was so funny, I saw a different employee standing next to the elevator talking on his cell phone. I NEVER SAW ANY SIGNS ASKING PEOPLE NOT TO USE THIER CELL PHONES or WHERE THIS ARROGANT PLACES WANTS YOU TO USE A CELL PHONE. Plus keep in mind this is the 21st century and cell phones are how any person or company conducts business. The food was just OK, absolutely nothing special. If you're not with a meeting that is hosting the meal or using an expense account the price is v kinda high. This could be a nice place, but still I feel giving the Sutter Club 2 stars is being generous. I recommend to my company to never use this place again. read more

We had our wedding at the sutter club and it was amazing! Harmony, the event coordinator, handled everything perfectly and was accommodating to our needs. You hardly need decor because the sutter club has so much history and decor. All the waiters and waitresses were super nice to us and all the guests. The only thing I did not like was that we had an open bar for cocktail hour and we thought guests would have to order their drinks but instead, the waiters/waitresses were passing them out to guests. This obviously made our bill higher than we thought. Other than that, I could not be happier that we had our wedding at the sutter club. read more

This place survives (somehow) on reputation. But I'm here to dispel that myth. I've eaten here 3 times and been impressed with their food zero times. Since I'm vegetarian, consider my review thusly informed: Sutter Club's ability to prepare a decent meal that doesn't depend on a fine cut of cattle is lacking. I don't understand how such an exclusive place with such high prices can survive with such mediocre food. Ambiance is rich white guy. Service is fine. I'd have given 1.5 *'s if possible for that, but such is the problem with all rating systems... there's never enough granularity for everyone. read more

The Sutter Club is such a beautiful venue to host a classic and timeless wedding. As a wedding planner it was so fun working with a staff that knew every element of their venue so well- I never had to worry about the set-up and service throughout the day, they were just ON IT. Working with Harmony, the events director, was nothing short of a blast. On long wedding days (I am a planner) it can get tedious in the waning hours of an event, and her positive vibe, upbeat personality and just easy-going but still completely in charge and perfectionist attitude had all of us vendors laughing and having fun through the final dance. I have been fortunate enough to dine at the Sutter Club a few times throughout the years and it is always an experience. My most recent experience was during my law firm's holiday party last week and I was immediately reminded why people work so hard to become a member here. There is such an opulent feel to the building and the service always makes you feel like someone special. The food was excellent...I eat a lot of salmon but I can easily say that this was one of the best I've ever had. Mediocre. Yes, the building and decor are lovely; parking/public transit is extremely convenient. No, the food is NOT amazing at least when it comes to the catered events (bland, bland, bland). The salad was terrible - weak and watery Caesar dressing atop limp lettuce. I had tasteless salmon, asparagus (which *was* properly cooked) and a potato - nary a grain of pepper or seasoning present on any part of the entree. There were 15 tables and my table was in the back, so contrary to typical catering service we were served last - adjacent tables were finished eating prior to receiving our meal. I heard the prime rib and accompanying potato dish was delicious, so it's possible only the salmon was lacking. I was unable to obtain a refill on my water all night (3+ hours), wine was spilled by the server at our table and cleanup was never attempted - the server just moved the butter dish as if to obscure the stain (?). Maybe we had the B-crew of servers as there were several other events at the facility being managed concurrently. Although coffee service items were located at our tables, and despite seeing other tables enjoying coffee - that never became an option where we were located. And lastly, there was no ladies room available for use on the top floor which is where our event was located. This required going down a flight of stairs to use the facilities, in which only 1 sink was operational and then didn't drain. There were 3+ industrial fans blowing under the sinks in both the facilities for ladies and gents. Overall, nothing was terrible, but nothing was outstanding or worthy of the 5 star reviews I read. read more

We held our November wedding reception at the Sutter Club a few years ago due to the gracious sponsorship of our friend who is a member. The SC was an ideal late fall indoor venue. The food was excellent, and the service impeccable. Roshni coordinated our reception details and provided exceptional service. When I noticed that the SC had traditional fall harvest decor on display the month of our event, I expressed my dismay to Roshni about having hay bales and pumpkins conflicting with the elegant setting I had hoped to have our wedding in. Amazingly, the entire haybale display was promptly removed on our wedding day and then resurrected the next day. This is service that is above and beyond in my book. Having our reception at the SC was one of the best decisions we made about our wedding day. Highly recommend!!! read more
