a street sign for new orleans

Came across this place from a recommendation. Being from New Orleans, I had to try them out. Great stop on a Sunday afternoon. Cute spot in Carytown that has an upstairs area as well. I didn'tget to inquire if it was available for events or parties. Parking in the area is on the street and is usually pretty busy on the weekends. You make have to park in the surrounding neighborhood. The snowballs range in size from small to XL, but the cups are on the small side (the only downside. Could be a bias based on my hometown). The ice is really soft and the flavors are spot on. I opted for a traditional flavor Tiger's Blood (my favorite to get), which is a big seller and came highly recommended. They also have stuffed snowballs, specialty flavors with plenty toppings to choose from. The Pineapple Express was really good. It has fresh pineapple pieces in it, which was an added bonus. The Nana Pudding was tasty too, but was too much for me. Really sweet with sliced bananas, vanilla wafers and whipped cream. Outside of the cup size, this place was a real treat! If you are in Richmond, stop in Carytown and give them a try!

I'm a big fan of Ruby Scoops in Northside so had to come check out the new frozen dessert spot by the same owner. So many flavors of shaved ice to choose from. It was hard to decide but in the end I wanted to get one of their specials with toppings so I did the Tres Leches. The small was just enough for me. A bit messy to try and keep from little bits of shaved ice from falling on the table, so definitely not something I would eat while in transit but a nice dessert to sit down and enjoy. My mom got the Nana Puddin' and enjoyed hers as well. The consistency of the ice is nice and fluffy. If you're in Jackson Ward, pop over to this spot for a frozen treat!

Great inside atmosphere. Adorned with pictures of rva's heroes.

You need to pull the red tab and gently pull the plastic towards left and right to detach it from the seaweed. Then you close the onigiri and eat. We ordered several because they are not that big and everything was delicious. What I did learn is that it gets expensive really fast, so I would come here for a quick snack, but if you're starving, you can easily spend $30+ on 3 onigiri and a tea.

I ordered the ChumChum Milk Tea which comes with boba and a sea salt milk cap and it was delicious! Boba was on the firmer side which I prefer and the tea was some of the best I've had. Their sea salt milk cap is unique compared to other places in that it is a very thick almost cream cheese like consistency - bit overwhelming on its own but when mixed with the milk tea it added an extra complexity to the tea flavor. I also ordered two onigiris but they weren't the greatest - heavy on the rice which was either dry, or loosely packed, or something, since they didn't hold together really well. I'd definitely go back for the tea though! And maybe to try some of the other stuff on their menu.

Let's see how the afternoon turned out. After having lunch elsewhere, we drove here for some much needed snoballs. Outside, it was pretty warm so we stayed in the car. Since our last visit, they updated the location. There are more benches and have umbrellas to cover them in case of shade and rain. Also, you order in the front and pick up on the side when it's ready. For my order, I selected the Coconut flavor in the kiddie's size. The flavor was just exactly a Coconut flavor and delivered. As usual, the ice tended to melt a little quick just as I mixed the ice around, but no change to the taste at all. Sophia enjoyed her selection too (forgot what she chose). Thank you again Pelican's for having the both of us satisfied. We'll definitely be back. Till next time :)

They were able to answer questions about the menu and make recommendations. The sno balls were definitely more than just run of the mill cups of shaved ice. The owner, Eddie, was a pleasure to meet and cares about the community experience as well as the conditions under which the kids have to work. He's got a great amount of seating and is constantly adding activities on the property for his customers to hang around a bit and have fun. Can't wait to bring my team back. Also, they are first responder friendly which always earns my respect. Check them out!
