Overall Impression on Suzy Sno: Finding this place was a fortunate accident, and I'm glad that the stars aligned to enable my family the pleasure of patronizing the business. The Taste: The menu boasts a whole lotta flavor selections - choices GA-LORE! We ordered a few choices, as depicted. I'd certainly come back again and again for any one of the flavors that we chose, but on my next visit, I'll likely make different choices to expand on the tasting experience. Judging by the outcome of my initial visit, though, I'm sure the other flavors are going to be equally satisfying. The Texture: the tiniest little shaved ice balls. Not at all clumpy. Flavor is distributed evenly throughout each cup. Just right...juicy but not drippy. I remember as a kid the snowcones I'd get would have flavors concentrated at the bottom and the tops would be more icy - NOT that the case with our Suzy Sno cups. The Spot: The building is located on North 2nd Street between Jackson & Marshall, nestled between a row of buildings and revitalization. It sits among the growing mix of spirited entrepreneurs in "The Ward" (that's the Jackson Ward section of downtown... if you don't know, now yaknow). The indoor aesthetic perfectly suits the location... when I stepped inside it put me in the mindset of being in a shabby-chic museum, with the longest blue wall for the people. The walk from the doorway to the counter feels like a stroll through an oldtime parlor room or boutique. The bold decor is deeply rooted and traces back through time with colorful elements from notable people, places, and objects. The Backstory: My family visited Richmond for a weekend-long football tournament in the Glen Allen area. Before our final departure for the return trip home to NJ, the children insisted that we go "Downtown" to take in the sites and sounds of the city. It was on a quiet and moderately cool Sunday afternoon. We parked our car on 3rd street and stumbled upon a few Bird city bikes and took a tour around the area surrounding VCU. After the riding, we were in no hurry to get back to the car because I still needed to walk off the hefty portion of BBQ deliciousness we had eaten at SmoHK BBQ which had my belly fully satisfied with leftovers in hand (that review is next on my list). And I am so glad we turned the corner off Jackson because otherwise, I would have completely missed out on enjoying my Suzy Sno experience. Other Deets: the woman at the counter was super sweet and friendly. I asked her name before we headed out (it's Rabbia). I told her that I wanted to leave a Yelp review to support the business... little did I know mine would be the first. We left Richmond a few days ago. While Googling to find the precise address to use for this Yelp review, I found myself beholden by food blogs and other news stories about a Suzy Sno grand opening just recently and that the owner was a TV "cheftestant". Come to find out, the woman who served me is the owner. She was so kind and humble, I would've never known she was a local celebrity. read more

I finally made it to Suzy Sno! Ruby Scoops is my favorite and this establishment is by the same owner. They are now located across from Kitchen 64 in the old Sweet 95 area. I first got the Mangonada as I love Mango anyt. Well the Lime juice was very overpowering to me I couldn't finish it. I had to order another sno cone! I got the Dreamsicle with coconut whip. This was delicious! I'll definitely go back to support. read more

It was a hot day in Cary street so there were quite a few people there to order, but it didn't take long at all to get my treat. The person taking orders was patient and answered everyone's questions. There are a few seats inside but I'd be prepared to take my sno cone outside to enjoy. read more

Came across this place from a recommendation. Being from New Orleans, I had to try them out. Great stop on a Sunday afternoon. Cute spot in Carytown that has an upstairs area as well. I didn'tget to inquire if it was available for events or parties. Parking in the area is on the street and is usually pretty busy on the weekends. You make have to park in the surrounding neighborhood. The snowballs range in size from small to XL, but the cups are on the small side (the only downside. Could be a bias based on my hometown). The ice is really soft and the flavors are spot on. I opted for a traditional flavor Tiger's Blood (my favorite to get), which is a big seller and came highly recommended. They also have stuffed snowballs, specialty flavors with plenty toppings to choose from. The Pineapple Express was really good. It has fresh pineapple pieces in it, which was an added bonus. The Nana Pudding was tasty too, but was too much for me. Really sweet with sliced bananas, vanilla wafers and whipped cream. Outside of the cup size, this place was a real treat! If you are in Richmond, stop in Carytown and give them a try! read more

I'm a big fan of Ruby Scoops in Northside so had to come check out the new frozen dessert spot by the same owner. So many flavors of shaved ice to choose from. It was hard to decide but in the end I wanted to get one of their specials with toppings so I did the Tres Leches. The small was just enough for me. A bit messy to try and keep from little bits of shaved ice from falling on the table, so definitely not something I would eat while in transit but a nice dessert to sit down and enjoy. My mom got the Nana Puddin' and enjoyed hers as well. The consistency of the ice is nice and fluffy. If you're in Jackson Ward, pop over to this spot for a frozen treat! read more

Def filled my snow cone (sno ball) craving. I got a classic strawberry but stepped out of the box with whipped cream. It was great! Just a tad shy of the perfect snoball/shaved ice texture. My group also got tigers blood, kiwi, and pineapple. The flavors were slightly less sweet than I'm accustomed to but that was a good thing. Great ice to flavor ratio! read more

The silver fox was so yummy!! That flavor is for my friends who don't like it too, too sweet. The small size was perfect for me. The staff were friendly and efficient. The interior lobby is like a little museum, I loved checking everything out. I wish there was better put together outdoor seating, but I understand you have to work with what you got. I love this spot! This place reminds me of the sno cone place I used to go to as a kid--there are so many flavors and toppings that give me a lot of nostalgia. I got a regular sno cone with king cake flavoring, which was so good! Can't wait to go back and try more of their flavors. Oh, and I'm so glad that there are vegan toppings on the menu. Umm, we went here one day, during the week and it was great, we talked to the owner and she was lovely and we loved what we got so we sent friends and neighbors to check this place out. Our youngest really wanted to come here again before school started on Monday so we went after dinner around 6:30 on Saturday. Well, we won't be back. They had one employee (that we could see) 2 families in front of us. We waited in line 10 minutes while the employee was in the back, never acknowledged that we were there. "hi, I'll be a minute, sorry I'm the only one here on a busy night" nothing, completely ignored. I also can't imagine it being safe to leave one employee working on a Saturday night. The bathroom door doesn't lock, it also didn't have toilet paper, paper towels, or soap. Which is gross if the employees ever felt like they needed to pee. So we left, we told the other people in line behind us how long we had been standing there and they left also, so, 3 sets of families left and still no employees came out. With several ice cream/chocolate places within a 1/3rd of a mile, I can't understand why a business would only have one employee working on a Saturday night. If you like shaved ice, there are better options that even if you live downtown, it would be faster to drive to the west end and back than wait in line here on a Saturday night. read more
